OLIVE

Age: 9 1/2 years old
Adoption Fees: $300

December 20, 2019 – Olive went to her forever home today, she will be living with a sweet Golden Retriever and a work from home mom & dad.

December 12, 2019 – Sweet little Olive continues to do well.  Her confidence is growing and there are no signs now of separation anxiety.  As a matter of fact, when she knows I am leaving and she is not coming, she just climbs into one of the dog beds with her foster brothers.  Today, she didn’t even come to the door when I left.  When I return home, her little bum wags but she is no longer super excited.   Around the house, she has also started to give me space only following on my heels about 80% of the time now.  Each morning after our walk, she and Peanut, the resident pug, play a little.  She still gets over excited but she comes every time I call her which helps the excitement level.  I think Olive would do really well with an older calm small dog and a home where she isn’t left alone for long periods of time.   This petite girl has proven to be a really good sprinter always beating her foster brothers when they race across the field.  When she reaches her foster mom, she sits proudly and waits for her reward.  Olive responds really well to positive reinforcement whether it be a tiny treat or verbal praise.

December 5, 2019 – Little Miss Olive is doing fantastic and is slowly becoming a snuggle pug.  She will now sleep on my lap or pressed against my leg.  At first, she would climb up on my lap give me a kiss and then settle at the other end of the sofa.   Her favourite word is walk. This little pug makes an excellent walking partner.  After a few minutes of sniffing and doing her business, Olive walks with purpose and no longer pulls on the leash.  She doesn’t seem bothered by the weather so far and has no objections to wearing a coat and boots although she has very small feet and the boots tend to fall off.  Olive is insecure and needs a calm environment.  She shy’s away from loud voices and large sudden movements.  Olive doesn’t really socialize with her foster brothers but  their calm demeanor  helps her feel more secure.  When I came home the other day, Olive and two of her foster brothers were altogether in one dog bed.  Olive is a sweet spunky girl and a joy to foster.

November 26, 2019
– Olive is doing well, for the most part she is sweet, gentle and well behaved.
She went to the vet last week and got brought up to date in her vaccination.  Olive is highly excitable and when Peanut invited her to play just before dinner yesterday, the game quickly turned into a fight with little Olive being the aggressor.  This didn’t really surprise me as she gets very excited –  for example, when I get out her harness + she does suffer with separation anxiety. We are working on that by ignoring her until she calms herself.  She has had one accident in the house while I was out, but she peed by the back door.  I’m fairly certain it was caused by anxiety as she is completely house broken and doesn’t need to pee more often than usual when we are home.
Olive loves to go out.  At first, she was all over the place while we were walking, crossing back and forth around my legs but I noticed a considerable improvement today.  She seems to have plenty of energy, loves to give kisses and one of her favorite activities is rolling and hiding in a pile of blankets.  Olive is very bright and responsive.  She always comes when I say her name.  Today, she impressed me by sitting and waiting when I opened and went out the front door only coming when I called her. Olive is a darling and is already very bonded to her foster Mom.

November 21, 2019 – Olive was surrendered by her owner who couldn’t care for her anymore.  Olive is born on April 28, 2010 so she is 9 1/2 years old.  Olive is spayed and had her teeth cleaned recently.  She’s an energetic girl who gets along well with dogs.  Olive is going to the vet today for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in her vaccination and microchipped.  Stay tuned for more on this sweet little girl.

LOLITA

Age: 8
Adoption Fees: $300

June 13, 2022 – Lolita had been euthanized this past Friday as her condition has worsen and she was suffering.  Thanks to her amazing foster mom for all the care and love provided since November 2019.

February 14, 2022 – I’m so delighted to provide an update about our sweet Lolita. She continues to bring so much joy to those around her, and benefits greatly from the UMWPR hospice pug program.  For those who do not know her, Lolita entered the foster program on November 14, 2019.  For the first year of her fostering, she required intensive medical interventions, including the removal of 63 bladder stones, long-term antibiotic therapy for extensive bladder, ear, eye, and skin infections, and therapies and creative diet solutions for profound allergies and morbid obesity.  Her health was such that UMPR decided to trust us with the long-term management of her health, and also the nurturing of her heart and soul, which were sadly affected by her history of trauma and neglect.

These days Lolita is surrounded by love and secure in the knowledge that she belongs to a family who will do anything for her. Medically, she continues to require special support. She was recently diagnosed with a corneal ulcer, but I am happy to report that with swift and devoted treatment funded by UMWPR she recovered in a scant two weeks. As she continues to age, she is showing signs of spinal degeneration and dementia, but UMWPR is providing funding support for medications as well as physiotherapy. And, on top of all of this, the rescue continues to fund several allergy medications and specialized food.  This update wouldn’t be complete without acknowledging the members of the UMWPR community who have recently assisted our efforts to support Lolita by donating non-slip rugs, a stroller, and a wheelchair. At this point, Lolita retains fairly good use of her hind quarters, but having these items on hand means that we can help her through bad days, and ease her transition as her mobility declines. Thank you.  Let me wrap this up by telling you about a special role that Lolita plays in our family. My son used to have trouble falling asleep due to a medical condition. Since her early in her days living with us she assumed the role of putting him to bed. When it’s time for him to sleep, she curls right up under his chin and allows him to gently squeeze her close. She’s a cuddle bug, but he is the only one she will permit to hug her for an extended period of time. She usually drifts off as well. When she is sure he is deeply asleep, and never a moment before, she will get up and join us in the living room. Our precious girl does this every night, without fail. We are so lucky to have her.

May 17, 2021 – Hello! We’re so happy to give another Lolita update! It’s summer now, which means that the terrible season that shall not be named has passed, and walks can happen without many layers of snowsuits and sweaters and boots! It’s really tough to be a little old lady with bald spots during the winter in Ottawa, although her winter ensemble was the talk of the neighbourhood! Over the winter Lolita also proved that an old dog can learn new tricks – if she’s stubborn enough! She decided that she didn’t like it when I went for a walk on my treadmill “without” her, so she taught herself to jump on and walk with me.  It was very cute, and I do walk quite slowly, but for safety I relocated her to another available lap during mommy’s exercise time. But she will try to join me if the door is left open! Pugs are unstoppable!

Lolita is loving the warmer weather, and enjoys bathing in the sun, both inside and on the deck. She also enjoys her hobby of keeping as close to us as possible and that’s just fine with us. I don’t remember what it’s like to cook in the kitchen without her little cinnamon roll bum on my foot, or sleep without her snoring next to me under the blankets. She is truly a part of our family, and always at the centre of whatever we are doing (even if it’s just to sit on the floor, in the middle of an impromptu family dance party, and stare at us with complete confusion!)
She continues to require daily allergy medication, and her needs fluctuate with the seasons, just like human allergies. Unfortunately, because she has so many allergies, she doesn’t seem to get an “off” season.
Under my Wing continues to provide Lolita’s prescription medications, prescription food, and her regular check-ups, vastly improving her quality of life. Lolita has had her first dental procedure since coming to live with us at the end of April 2020.  She has lots a few teeth and came out of the dental procedure like a champion.
Please consider donating to UMWPR to help dogs like Lolita continue to overcome their past circumstances, and enjoy the lives they deserve to live!

April 23, 2020 – Lolita is doing well.  She has a very nice slimmer figure now and enjoys sunning whenever the weather permits.  Lolita was on a different antibiotic and she didn’t react well.  She had stomach problems and didn’t want to eat anymore.  We have stopped that medication and the vet is seeing what would be best for this sweet girl.  Lolita is a Hospice Pug which means that she will stay in her foster family forever as she went thru so much health wise and still has to remain on a few meds for the rest of her life and on a special hypoallergenic formula that also dissolves eventual stones in her bladder.  If you are interested in donating for Lolita’s vet expenses, you can do so on our Homepage thru CanadaHelps.  We will continue to provide regular updates on this sweet girl who is receiving tons of love in her foster family.

February 17, 2020 – Lolita’s bacterial culture confirmed a diagnosis of Methicillin-resistant Staph pseudintermedius or MSRP infection.
This is an antibiotic resistant staph infection that is highly contagious to other animals, and a low risk of contagion to humans. Here is a handout I found online:
Lolita has been prescribed a strong antibiotic for this type of infection. It is the mildest form of this type of antibiotic. She may need something stronger but that will come with more side effects so starting slow.  We will start giving her probiotics to help her gut. We should begin to see improvement in 3-4 days if it’s working.
Thyroid test result: Although Lolita’s T3 was a little low, the rest of her numbers were good, ruling out thyroid disease.
Ear Infection: Lolita’s Ears are looking good and the Infection appears to be gone. The vet cautioned that we finish all of the antibiotic and warned the infection could recur until all of the other infections are under control.
Anal Glands: Clean but still very inflamed.  Vet told us to continue with Metacam.
Weight:  More good news! Lolita’s down another .5 of a pound, bringing her to 24.5lbs
Medications: New antibiotic to be picked up this Friday, continuing:
– Apoquel (itchy skin)
– Metacam (Anal glands)
– Surolan (Ears)
Follow Up – we have a follow up booked for a recheck on Tuesday, March 10 @11am

February 4, 2020 – Lolita continues to be the highlight of our days. She’s a reading companion and a (grumpy) walking buddy, an extra pillow at night and a loyal, if not fearsome, guard dog (she’s has started standing in front of us and letting out one bark when the postman comes. She sure shows him). Still working on her skin issues. Lolita has been on the antibiotics for a week but there is still redness and irritation. We’re taking steps to reduce her discomfort. Anything that regularly touches her skin can cause abrasion – even soft harnesses, knitted sweaters and boots. She now wears a fleece sweatshirt to try to add extra, very soft padding for her skin under her harness and a fleece jacket. She was initially unimpressed but shivered much less and was less irritated after walks. We try to control the irritation on the tops of her paws from the boots with prescribed washes and oils. But it’s a balance to be sure. We’re tried to prevent more foot licking with soft, loose, fleece scarves (and maybe the very occasional tutu) and she’s fine with that (she’s never left alone with something around her neck except a vet approved cone). Thankfully, she spends very little time alone.  Finally, Lolita has lost another pound and a half! My doctor tells me my health has also improved, and advised me to tell everyone to adopt a pug.

January 28, 2010 – Lots of positive developments this week. The vet diagnosed Lolita’s remaining skin issue, a wide-spread infection, which had been caused by her previous, long-standing, untreated allergies breaking down the natural barriers on her skin. So now we have a plan! She will be taking another 3 weeks of antibiotics, as well as antibacterial baths and vitamin E paw massages. The vet is also checking to ensure she’s taking the best antibiotic for her infection by doing a culture. Her skin is still red and itchy and easily irritated, but we’re seeing small improvements and that makes us optimistic! Her fur is slowly growing back and thickening since her allergy treatment began and we hope it will continue to improve with these further treatments. Please note that Lolita cannot use typical creams, balms, waxes and oils because of their plant and/or animal ingredients that could trigger her allergies. Only straight vitamin E for this special girl!

In consultation with the vet, we’re trying to walk Lolita without boots and a gentle antibacterial wash when she returns home. We’ll see how it goes. It’s difficult to judge the best course of action when her feet are so sensitive but we’re paying close attention and doing what’s best for Lolita.  She does enjoy a nice heated blanket and a snuggle to comfort her after the hardship of winter exercise. So she does enjoy THAT aspect of walking!  This week we were also treated with joyful spinning dances and happy zoomies when we returned from an outing.  She’s also playing more with her stuffed toys. I guess it’s easier to be happy when your butt isn’t quite so itchy!

January 20, 2020 – Lolita does not like the snow at all! She informed us after the large snowfall that she would not be peeing outside anymore unless we did something, so she’s now the owner of quite an impressive pee path in the backyard. We still have to supervise to ensure that she does ALL of her business while she’s out or we can expect an accident when we she comes back inside.  We’ve been focusing on caring for Lolita’s feet this week. Although we’ve treated her allergies, the skin on her paws is still easily irritated, so we took a break from boots and walks for a few days. This will allow her skin to heal more fully, and allow us to assess if there is still another underlying condition that requires attention. Lolita continues to be sweet and affectionate. She is quietly content, but I think that, with time and security, she will express more of the joy and playfulness that we sometimes catch in glimpses. The best is yet to come for this sweetheart.

January 14, 2020 – Lolita saw the vet again this week and switched medications in an attempt to get her allergies under control. Due to the itching, she still scratches and chews on her feet quite a bit, though it is improving. She is growing very tired of wearing the cone all the time, and we don’t blame her. She is not a fan of the colder, snowy weather, and takes a bit of extra prodding to get going on walks. She would much prefer to curl up in bed with someone on chilly days, but we continue to help her exercise to get fit and healthy.  She continues to show limitless patience and sweetness, even in the face of excited and overtired children!

January 6, 2020 – Lolita will be up for adoption eventually, so this entry will be a description of her ideal family, based on my 6 weeks of caring for her. The ideal family for Lolita will be sensitive to her significant sensitivity to cold. Warm boots and a good winter coat will be a must. Lolita currently wears Paws boots but something warmer would probably be preferable. She will resist walks in cold weather, to the point of shivering and hiding when its walk time. Don’t forget she spent cold nights on the street……before coming to rescue. Lolita responds well to encouragement. I like to sing her a rousing cheer while walking (not required, but recommended because it’s fun for both of you).  With Lolita’s shocking history of bladder stones, her forever family will have to be committed to only giving her vet- approved food. She also needs to continue to lose weight, so consistent use of a measuring cup is essential. The longer you live with a chubby dog, the more normal their obesity will seem. Set a goal weight and stick to it.  Lolita’s forever family will be mindful of her health history. Know the signs of urinary tract or bladder infection and be prepared for the possibility of having to take her in for urinalysis to ensure she is well. Safe guarding her urinary health will be key. Also, take her out frequently (every 2-4 hours, maximum, and perhaps a trip at night or early morning). Ensure that she always has plenty to drink. Be aware of how allergies can affect health (ear infections, etc).  Lolita is a sweet-tempered dog who loves everyone.  Provide ramps for high beds and couches. Watch her on stairs. Be mindful of how her weight currently strains her knees. Lolita wants to be with her people. She wants to sit with them and sleep in someone’s bed. If you can give her your compassion and responsibility, she will love you with all her beautiful heart. Lolita is worth every ounce of care you can provide.

December 30, 2019 – Lolita participated in all the traditional holiday festivities, such as napping in wrapping paper, and dancing around the kitchen in hopes of catching a fallen piece of Christmas dinner (she didn’t). We also saw the vet this week, who identified some food allergies. We’re working to find the best diet to meet Lolita’s various needs, we have started her on a special Urinary SO especially made for dogs with food allergies. She has also started some antibiotics for a sore foot (caused by the allergies) and we’re watching a bump on her side for a bit to make sure it’s nothing concerning. The great news is that WE HAD NO ACCIDENTS THIS WEEK! woo hoo! Lolita has also been able to go a little longer between pees and no longer requires a night time pee every night. We still take her out if she wakes during the night. This improvement is especially wonderful because it means the inflammation caused by her many stones is healing.  We’re working hard on trying to take her farther on her walks. She requires a lot of coaxing to get away from the house but trots back to the house quite happily. For this reason, she does best if you take her somewhere she doesn’t know!! She likes meeting dogs and people on our walks and is quiet but sociable. Just a sweetheart.

December 23, 2019 – Lolita continues to be a delight. She loves to burrow under the blankets (the heavier the better) and we’ve developed a family policy to check every bed before sitting on it! She is an adorable shadow, following us from room to room and always crawling on my lap. We love having her. We only had 3 accidents in the house in the last week, which is a great improvement.  Lolita’s future family must be very sensitive to her cues to continue this positive development. She must go out every 2 hours unless she is asleep. She will not ask to go out, but quietly wait by the door. If you miss her cues, she will have an accident. We continue to take her out once at night. Sometimes this outing happens a little later, around 5am or 6am.  She has been more agreeable on walks, but is extremely sensitive to cold. We dress her in boots, a sweater and a coat but she will still shiver if she doesn’t keep moving. She loves to share my heated blanket with me. Lolita listens very well. Just this week she was making a run for the litter box and I said “no” and she stopped so fast she slid on the floor! (Side note, litter boxes will need to be placed out of reach or behind a gate.)

An ideal home for Lolita would have few stairs. She struggles to go up and down and prefers to avoid them. We have ramps that she uses to get on and off beds and couches. Lolita will be visiting the vet next week for recheck.

December 19, 2019 – Week #4 with Lolita. Her sweet personality continues to emerge. She loves to bury herself under the blankets and snuggle. She requires a nighttime sleeping buddy, but it’s no hardship as she is so cuddly. She hates walks but is frisky and playful when she comes back inside.  She requires bathroom breaks about every two hours. She can hold it for longer than that if she’s sleeping, but must go outside as soon as she wakes. Ideally, someone should take her outside half-way though the night. My husband gets up at around 5am, so he takes her out at midnight, but she may require another trip out if she wakes early. With these bathroom breaks, and 3 short walks per day she averages between 3-5 accidents per week. (This is a great improvement!)

Her hatred of the outdoors has resulted in some pretty clever behaviour. We discovered that if she is not accompanied right out into the yard (no waiting on the deck!), she will pretend to pee to get back inside faster, and then pee on the floor almost immediately. So she requires a pretty dedicated pee buddy during the cold weather. But we have been getting her out as much as we can, and with her new diet, it seems like she is looking a littler trimmer!  Lolita has spent some time around other pugs this week and was interested in socializing. She is such a sweetheart and will make a wonderful companion for someone (preferably someone who is home during the day or can have someone check on her every 2-4 hours).

December 12, 2019 – Lolita continues to improve every day. Her appetite has returned and her calorie consumption is carefully monitored to support weight loss. She needs some pumpkin every day to keep things “moving”.  She’ still struggling with some incontinence and pees in the house 1-2 times per day. We believe she is still healing from the trauma of carrying 63 stones in her bladder. She very clearly knows how to ask to go out and will do so when she can. At this time, we are taking her into the yard around 10 times per day (from 6am – 10pm and sometimes during the night if she wakes up) and *trying* to take her for walks 3x per day.

Lolita is afraid of the stairs and we will carry her down the stairs.

In true pug fashion, Lolita hates the cold, snow, rain and frost. Even with a sweater, jacket and booties, she shivers and refuses to go further than across the street, where she pees and then turns back toward home. At almost 30 pounds, she has a lot of influence on how far we can go. She’s like a mountain when she doesn’t wish to go somewhere, and a little bulldozer when she wants to go somewhere else. Maybe as more time passes from the trauma of being homeless, she will find joy in going outside again.  For these reasons, it’s even more important to be very attentive and disciplined with her diet. Lolita is the sweetest soul and we’re so happy to have her in our home. She’s a cuddle bug and very loving.

December 3, 2019 – Lolita’s recheck went very well, her incision is healing very nicely.  She had her anal glands expressed and they were quite full.  Vet gave the OK for Lolita to start going for walks.

November 30, 2019 – Wow! Another eventful week!  Lolita had her recheck with the vet and she’s cleared to slowly resume regular activity. She still pees in the house a couple of times each day, but she’s starting to ask to be let out when she’s on the main floor, and that’s a huge improvement.  Lolita hates stairs and avoids them when she can. We think that this makes sense. She’s very large with very short legs. We got her a ramp to traverse the stairs to the backyard, and another to get up on the couch.  She’s getting used to vet food. She will have to eat Urinary SO food for the rest of her life, due to a tendency to form bladder stones. Lolita sticks very close to her humans and prefers to always be next to someone. She needs a sleeping buddy. She will tolerate sleeping next to the bed If you arrange yourself so she can see you.

November 25, 2019 – Our first week with Lolita was very eventful! She had surgery on Thursday November 21 to remove an astounding 63 stones, several of which were almost as big as eggs. But the most astonishing part of her illness to us was that, in the days leading up to her surgery, when she must have been in agonizing pain, she never once growled or snapped at anyone. She was sweet and affectionate. There is not an aggressive bone in this lovely lady’s body!  When she returned to us on Friday, we could already see a difference in how she held herself and on her ability to sit comfortably. As the days have passed, she has continued to regain her energy and personality. Whereas she was lethargic when she first arrived, now she keeps us on our toes trying to keep her from running and jumping and playing too vigorously. She especially wants to play with the kids, and loves giving them kisses. Otherwise, she continues to despise her kibble for urinary stones, and complains loudly during family mealtime. She is also still using pee pads in addition to being taken out ever 1-2 hours. But this has improved dramatically since last week when she was very ill and painful. We look forward to watching this sweetheart continue to recover!

November 24, 2019 – Lolita has a surgery on Friday to get 63 bladder stones removed.  She’s back at her foster home for a smooth recovery. Lolita is a sweet girl who LOVES kids.  She will have to remain on special vet food to dissolve & prevent any more bladder stones.  Lolita need to lose weight so we will work on that with nice walks as soon as she’s recovered from her surgery.

November 20, 2019 – We welcomed Lolita into our home last night. She’s a very sweet senior who is presently facing some health issues. The vet identified very serious calcification in her bladder (stones), bladder infection & ear infections. She’s presently taking antibiotics, ear drops and pain medication. She will be having surgery for the bladder stones tomorrow. Despite her challenges, Lolita is a lovely lady. She’s affectionate and seems to particularly love children. She ignores the cat and I don’t think the guinea pigs are even on her radar.

After her surgery, our secondary goal to helping her recover from her various infections will be helping her adapt to a new diet and exercise routine. Lolita is rather full-figured and judging by the dance she did while I cooked supper, I suspect she lived off table food. We took shifts spending the night in the kitchen with her last night, (she cannot hold urine at all with the bladder stones so her bed is on the kitchen right now). But we look forward to integrating her into the family routine when she’s feeling better.

November 19, 2019 – Lolita was found stray.  This plumpy 29.9lbs girl is spayed (visible scar).  She has received vaccination while at the OHS and is going for a complete vet check today.  We are suspecting that she has a urinary tract infection at the least.  Stay tuned for more on this lovely girl.

MEMPHIS

Age: 20 months
Adoption Fees: $600

January 24, 2020 – Memphis is gone to his forever home.  He will share his life with a 3 year old female Pug X.

January 14, 2020 – Memphis continues to do well with his house training and accidents are far and few between … I pay a lot of attention to his training and we go outside a lot so he realizes this is the place to go potty . He needs lots of positive reinforcement to continue his progress .
Yesterday, my daughter and 7 month old grandson came to visit ..That proved to show me a different side of Memphis. He was curious but barked at the baby. He appeared to be a bit nervous about him.
Memphis is still having lots of fun racing around the yard with the resident pugs. He loves to play, but still loves his cuddle time and is my constant shadow .
Wherever I am , he is under my feet. Gets very upset if I have to go out, and overly excited when I come home. He still has some separation anxiety but he is doing better than at the beginning.
We are still working on his sitting quietly and taking his treats in a gentlemanly manner.  Memphis is doing very well , but gets pretty excited when it’s breakfast or dinner.
This sweet boy is becoming more confident, had lots of play with a visiting puppy; they each liked to bite at each other’s back legs to get the game started.
He did chase the cat this week, she was running so he thought that was the thing to do.
Memphis is a sweet loving boy, a wonderful addition to a family that has another young dog.

January 10, 2020 – Memphis is ready to be adopted.  His forever home will have a young playful dog.  Memphis thrives in the company of other dogs and needs to continue to be socialized.  He has come along very well since he came to us almost 2 months ago.

January 6, 2020 – Our little Memphis is presently having a wonderful sleep after his fun day at the Running of the Pugs yesterday ! What a thrill to see him having so much fun, prancing around, being a confident boy, meeting people, playing with the other pugs ! He has really blossomed from being a very timid, scared boy.  Memphis is still a little wary and shy in the beginning but has come a long way in a short time; he will need more socializing as he continues to thrive.
He loves to play with the resident pugs, will run after his toys but hasn’t learned to bring them back …yet ! He also likes to steal the toys from the resident pugs.
He loves to race around the yard with the resident pugs trying to catch him, but he is very fast and usually leads the pack !
Memphis is still learning to master the art of not pulling when he is walking on his leash. He is a smart boy and just needs a “firm hand “ to teach him his leash etiquette…We are seeing less accidents in the house, in 9 days we have had 2 accidents only… His training needs to continue and patience and positive reinforcement are helping him become more confident in this area. Memphis doesn’t alert me to the fact he has to go out, but he is going each time we go outside, and longer times in between. I tried him a couple times in the crate but that is not a great option for him and caused him much anxiety.
Memphis is such a loving little guy, he is very playful and energetic but he is also as cuddly as a teddy bear and loves his quiet time cuddled up or on my lap. He also likes to lie on the back of the couch and rest his head on my shoulder.  He likes a lot of attention, and does have a little separation anxiety.
Memphis will do well in a family that has another young dog to play with, being 20 months old, he has lots of energy to play and go for walks. We will be looking for a family with another young playful dog for Memphis’s forever home.

January 2, 2020 – Memphis is a special wee man.  He was not treated well prior to his surrender to the rescue.  This has left Memphis feeling insecure and nervous for the most part.  He is slow to warm up to new people, new situations & new surroundings.  Memphis needs slow introductions to all things new but once he has a comfort level, he is his happy playful self.  He is still very much a puppy (at almost two years old) and requires a lot of stimulation in the form of playing with toys, going for walks (lots of walks), playing chase with other dogs in the house or in a fenced back yard.  He would make a great jogging partner under the proper weather conditions.  Memphis would benefit from a young dog companion that is easy going and as playful as he is.  Memphis loves to encourage play by nipping at the back legs of his playmates.  He is learning to play fetch with a ball or toy but hasn’t yet mastered the returning the item.  Memphis plays hard and sleeps hard.  After a session of play he loves to curl up for a nap, preferably on your lap and isn’t shy about snoring.  Memphis is working on learning commands.  He does like to beg at the table and while you are preparing his food, so he has mastered what “off” means.  He is a quick learner however and needs gentle reminders as he doesn’t do well will loud angry voices.  Along with “off”, Memphis is learning to sit and very quickly learned how to take a treat gently.  We continue to work on his leash manners, he isn’t bad, but wants to be the leader of the pack. Memphis will need someone that is a leader and someone that is experienced and consistent in being the pack leader. Memphis enjoys sleeping on the big bed and has no issues sleeping through the night even if his human gets up to use the facilities.  Memphis’s new family should be a place where someone is home for the most part as he does suffer from separation anxiety.  He does best if he is on a regular potty schedule as he will easily forget that it is not acceptable to potty in the house (especially after a play session).  He hasn’t mastered the skill of going to the door and asking to be let out.  Memphis enjoys car rides but can be fearful of getting out in an unfamiliar environment. Memphis is still a work in progress, but we believe that is it time for him to be placed on the available for adoption list.  It is important that his forever family understands he is a very sensitive pug and that he will not be comfortable for a longer period than it would normally take for a pug to settle in.  The key to success with Memphis will be consistency, kindness and lots of love.

December 23, 2019 – Memphis is doing really well adjusting to a busy house with other animals. He is not scared and timid in our environment.
He went to the vets this week for to have his anal glands expressed and handled it well.
He is also doing good with his house training and  has had no accidents so far this week. Does his business when we go out in the morning, also around dinner time. Despite the freezing temperatures last week, we are out in the yard many times a day. Memphis loves to race around the yard with the resident pugs trying to catch him.
He play fights with the resident female pug and I’ve noticed he is not as rough playing as he was when he first came.  He loves his toys.
Memphis has some separation anxiety and gets a little upset when I go downstairs. Earlier this week, he was quite upset, today he was as well but not quite as vocal.  When I go out, he cries a little but it doesn’t last long.  Memphis is a loving boy, he likes to cuddle on my shoulders or on my lap. The only problem we have encountered which started about 3 nights ago when we went to bed. He was on my lap and started growling if the resident pugs got too close to me.
Memphis is really sweet, loving, playful and needs a lot of attention … I think being in a home with more than one other animal would not be the best environment for him.
December 16, 2019 – Memphis has been moved to another foster family as we thought it was in his best interest to socialize with other pug and play…He was a little timid at first and checked everything out but quickly settled in. It didn’t take much time and he wanted to play with the resident Boston. He is a little rough with his play sometimes but the resident Boston was so tolerant with his antics.
We were outside for awhile and Memphis just loved to run around .., Him and the resident pug do a lot of running and sometimes Merkley will join in.
Memphis also likes to be on my lap or in my arms.
My observations of Memphis in this short period of time is that he is not as scared as we thought. He doesn’t back off from anything, runs around as if he owns the place.  Memphis is very loving and cuddly. Also likes to look out the window. He’s just a puppy, needs a little more house training, and coaching on how to play more gentle … but adjusting well in a house with other playful dogs.  Memphis will do well in a house with another young dog but no young kids he’s a bit rough when he plays.  This sweet boy like a lot of love and attention, and when I went outside the gate to shovel he cried even though he could see me.

December 9, 2019 – Memphis recovering well from his neutering surgery.  He tend to follow his foster parents everywhere they go. We have taken some good walks and the new trick is, given Memphis a treat when he pees outside. He lifts his leg on a pole to get a treat. He loves to sit in the window like a cat and enjoy the sunlight. Memphis  also loves spending time with his foster grandpa. He still not comfortable with little people or anyone who tries to pet my head instead of my chin. Memphis  is very playful and does paw a lot but we are telling him no. He is still recovering from his first home, high anxiety and almost PTSD so we have to be careful of doors, or loud noises around the house.  He is doing well and has made himself at home, we are seeing a lot less accidents.

November 28, 2019 – Memphis’s neutering surgery went well. He ate his dinner well last night.
This morning we have our puppy back! He wants to run everywhere so we have to calm him down so he doesn’t hurt his sutures. He is back sitting by the window making little noises as passersby walk on the street. The cuddles and the kisses are back too!

November 24, 2019 – Memphis is getting more comfortable and adjusting to his new environment. He has met and made a new friend with next door dog, he gets over excited to play.  Memphis is starting to listen more and more, from sit to wait while walking. He is very cuddly and sleeps at his foster Mom’s side. He knows when you are not well or having a bad day, and is right there to help.
Memphis is getting neutered on November 27.

November 18, 2019 – Memphis went to the vet last Saturday and got a full check up.  He has been vaccinated and microchipped.  Memphis is 19lbs and he has an appointment to get neutered on November 27.  Memphis is born with a smaller eye (right one) and the vet think he is most probably blind from that eye.  Not requiring any medication on that eye.
November 15, 2019 – Memphis was a little shy and nervous at first. Sudden movements would make him flinch so he is learning that the world is not always so scary. He warms up quickly! Before you know it you have a shadow following you around.
He has the cutest little butt wiggle!
When he walks, Memphis tends to bolt ahead! Adventure awaits and he wants to be first!
He is still learning the proper places to pee.  Once he gets neutered, he will stop marking with good positive reinforcement. Memphis LOVES his raw food. The first snowfall, he loved to jump in it!  Memphis likes his cuddles. He is learning to be quiet while we work and just cuddles at the bed at their feet or sometimes just on the floor even though the bed is right there!  Toys don’t tend to keep his attention for very long.

November 13, 2019 – Memphis is a sweet boy.  He is 1.5 year old,  he seems to have been abused.
Memphis is going to the vet this Friday for a complete check up, to get up to date in his vaccination and get microchipped. He also need to be neutered.  Memphis is born with a smaller eye, it doesn’t affect him but he is most certainly blind from that eye.  He is very good with other dogs and has quite a nice muscular body.  Stay tuned as we get to know Memphis a bit more in the coming weeks.

LUNA

Age: 7 years old
Adoption Fees: $300

February 25, 2020 – Luna & Bentley went to their forever home today.

February 6, 2020 – Luna and Bentley are doing great. They are running around, playing & wrestling together. Sometimes, Luna is getting jealous over attention and they wrestle to be number one. They are really cute and enjoying their play and walk.  Come meet Bentley and Luna at the Winter Paw Thaw on February 9 from 12 to 3:30PM at Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre.

January 10, 2020 – Bentley & Luna are extremely bonded. If they are left alone for more than a few hours, they will both cry when we come home. Both are very well trained and well behaved. They understand commands such as “lie down, sit, go to your bed “. When Luna was spayed, Bentley stayed home and was very depressed. As soon as Luna was back home from the vet, Bentley spent the entire evening at her side.

Luna has to use her eye medicine in rest of her life morning and night. Bentley & Luna are extremely well with kids and strangers. They both like kisses & hugs very much. They are also well behaved in car & trips.

We call Luna a sneaky kisser because when she is on your lap suddenly she try to kiss you. Luna is not shy to come and sit on anyone’s lap asking to petted. Bentley usually watches from the distance but he also loves getting petted. They both don’t leave your side when you do any movement in the kitchen.

The first three to four weeks, they were not showing much attachment towards to us. We think they were grieving their previous owner.

They love their walks and they walk side by side. Their bed should be put side by side since they sleep together. They go out for pee at 6 am and they get fed at 6:30 am for breakfast. Their supper time is 5 pm. They currently both get ear drops, twice a day for a mild ear infection.

They are both lovely dogs with unbreakable bond to each other. The best home for Bentley & Luna would be a retired couple who can spend time with them. They are not used to be left alone long hours.
January 2, 2020 – Luna & Bentley are doing well. Luna is recovering from her spaying surgery that took place on December 30. Both are enjoying short and long walks once the weather is cooperative. They like to cuddle all the time. We are really enjoying their company.

December 19, 2019 – Luna & Bentley are doing great. They are like puppy, competing for attention. They have full of energy but they don’t like wet weather. Since my wife is at home, they are spending time with them all the time therefore they are very attached to her.  Luna will require eye lubricant for the rest of her life.  She is getting spayed on December 30.

November 28, 2019 – Bentley & Luna went to the vet yesterday for a recheck.  took them to vet yesterday. Luna’s eyes and ears are getting better as well as her skin. Luna has a cyst in her left side the size of an almond. Vet said we need to monitor if the cyst grows. Bentley ‘s ears and skin are getting better. They are very playful in the apartment. We noticed that they were trained for “do you wanna go for a WALK”. Every time they hear the word:Walk , they get crazy excited and barking and crying from happiness. They are very good with guests in our place. They are very well trained and don’t do any accident.  They are so attached to each other. They sleep, eat, walk, run together. Luna asks for attention and Bentley waits to receive. Luna gets very much jealous if we pet Bentley. She cut off Bentley every time when we show any attention.  Luna & Bentley are getting their teeth cleaned on December 6.

November 18, 2019 – Bentley & Luna are getting better every week.  Bentley is slowly learning that marking the furniture is not an option. Luna is extremely consistent when it comes to do her business outside. They are getting their medication periodically and there is a great improvement on Luna’s eyes. They are so attached to each other and they take naps together everyday. They are also very friendly when we have guests. After an hour or so, they were laying down right beside our guests and leaning on them.

November 11, 2019 – Bentley & Luna are doing great. Due to their skin issue, they do scratch but their medication will help them to heal. I got 2 eye different drops for Luna for her eyes due to “dry eyes” issue. She will get rechecked in 2 weeks. The vet suggested to get Bentley and Luna’s teeth cleaned. They both got drops for ear infection. They got shots for rabies and distemper.
They are pretty active and playing a lot. They also used to sleep on the bed with us as well as sleeping on their bed. Bentley loves sleeping in the crate. From time to time, he goes to in the rate, lies down and sleeps there. Luna can sleep everywhere. She is so attached to us. Bentley humps Luna and Luna humps Bentley. They are so funny. They walk long and short walks side by side really nicely. They love going outside for their walks.
They are very good with each other, always sleep leaning over to each other. They get jealous if you pet one of them , the other one will come to you for requesting pet.

November 9, 2019 – Luna (black one on the photo) came in last night with her father, Bentley.  She is 7 years old.  She is very attached to her father so we will want them adopted together.  Stay tuned for more on this sweet girl as we get to know her better.

January 14, 2020 – Last week, Luna and Bentley had a great time at The Running of The Pugs event. They ate, went outside then hop to bed. They both really enjoy long walks. Luna recovered from the spay surgery and cyst extraction completely. Great news was her lab result for cyst came back as negative. They love snow and even when it’s slushy around, they run and run. When they come from their late afternoon walk before supper, they like to play with their toys. They chase each other around the living room. If any one of us puts a pillow on the lap, they both race each other to sit on that pillow. These little angels are waiting for their forever home to give more love.

January 10, 2020 – Bentley & Luna are extremely bonded. If they are left alone for more than a few hours, they will both cry when we come home. Both are very well trained and well behaved. WINNIE

Age: 7
Adoption Fees: $300

December 24, 2019 – Winnie has been adopted by a work from home couple.  She will share her life with 2 pug sisters and a pug brother.

December 24, 2019 – Winnie was at the vet today, her skin is looking better but she will continue her antibiotics for a few more weeks.  Winnie has started a kangaroo/oatmeal formula especially for dogs with skin conditions.  Winnie can be a bit bossy with other dogs but she is not aggressive.  She can live with other dogs and would do well with someone working from home or not gone for several hours at a time.

December 16, 2019 – Winnie has had a busy few days. She went to the vet for a check up and will continue with her antibiotics and was given a new shampoo for her itchy skin. Winnie was spayed today and is now recovering very quietly at home. While she was at the vet clinic, they were able to give her nails a good trim. She will go back to the vet on December 24 to have her skin re-checked.  She is eating a pork formula as we want to stay away from poultry due to her itchy skin.  Winnie is a real sweetheart of a dog and she is learning to live in a family environment with other dogs. She can be a little jealous at times. Winnie is great in the car, and loves going for drives. She will usually just sit on the seat.  When we go out, we leave Winnie loose in the house and she is great, no accidents and no mischief.

December 1, 2019 – Good news, Winnie does NOT have Cushing.  The blood results came back negative.  The vet noticed her hair are starting to grow.  Winnie is going back to the vet on December 11 and we will reassess her and see how her skin is doing and we will schedule her spaying surgery.

November 29, 2019 – Winnie has had a great week with no accidents. She has really adjusted to our routine. Each week, Winnie is feeling a little more comfortable with us and her environment and her personality comes out a little more. She is really sweet. She loves to lay on my lap no matter where I am sitting. Winnie is responding very well to her name and hoping to work on the basics commands with her; sit, stay. When guests come over to the house, Winnie will run over to greet them, but then will go back to either the pillow or my lap. We took advantage of the beautiful warm day this week and went for a long walk with her, she was excellent the whole time and walked well on the leash. She did however get cold near the end. She was so exhausted for the rest of the day and evening. Winnie went to the vet today and had some more blood work done and we are waiting the results. Skin scraping showed no mites.  She was prescribed some antibiotics for her skin and the vet also commented that she believes that Winnie is growing some new fur.  Winnie is to go back to the vet on 12 days for recheck.

November 21, 2019 – Winnie is settling in a lot more and has quickly picked up a routine and there has been no more accidents in the house.  She has completed her antibiotics but she is still receiving her ear drops and her medicated baths. After her bath she likes to go lay up on my bed, on my lap with her blanket on top of her.

Winnie is a real sweet girl that loves to curl up on your lap and lay there until you are ready to get up.
I am finding that Winnie is watching and learning how the resident pugs behave and is slowly doing what they do. She is also slowly learning how to play, right now we watch her, sneak to the toy bin, she gets a stuffy toy, runs to the bed sits there and will keep repeating until she has toys all around her. It is very comical to sit and watch her.
She  has slowly started to go down the stairs on her own along as I am walking down beside her.

When Winnie spots the cat she will try to chase and bark at him.

November 15, 2019 – We have started to see some improvements with Winnie. She is starting to feel more comfortable with us and like the resident pugs, she follows me around the house like my little shadow. She does not like to be alone. When we are out of the house, she is fine going in the crate and will let out just a couple of barks.  She is a very friendly dog and will run to greet any one that walks into the room.  We are going to start working with her on the basic commands, sit, stay.  Winnie is always trying to lay on my lap and cuddle. She is starting to play with toys and she loves to chew on the chew toys. She has no issues gong up any stairs, but she will not go down any stairs. Winnie has had a couple of accidents in the house especially when it is cold out. She really dislikes the snow and cold.  She has been a very good sport with taking her medicated baths and taking her antibiotics.

November 5, 2019 – Winnie was found stray in terrible condition, half of her body has no hair.  She is about 7 years old and is not spayed.  Was clearly used for breeding.  Winnie is going to the vet this afternoon for a complete check up & blood work.  Follow this sweet girl as we get to know her better in the coming weeks.

ABBY

Age: 9
Adoption Fees: $300

December 3, 2019 – Abby has been adopted by her foster parents.  She lives with a senior pug named Vitto.

December 1, 2019 – Abby was a trooper and made it through her dental surgery without a hitch (but you already know that!). As a result of her losing her front bottom teeth, her tongue now permanently sticks out a little, which only makes her more adorable.  She is still a little groggy (the pain meds certainly contributing to that). She is coughing a lot, which we will continue to monitor. There was a little blood and discharge this morning but nothing concerning. She is eating and drinking normally.

She is resting up today catching all the weekend ZzzZzz’s she can. Abby sends a big thank you to the staff at Liston Animal Hospital who took such good care of her yesterday, they made her feel comfortable and treated her like a Queen!

November 21, 2019 – Abby continues to settle in. She needs to be wherever we are! Her favorite thing to do is to sleep on the pillow in the big bed above foster mom’s head. She’ll snuggle down until morning when she begins to lick the foster humans to wake up.  Last weekend, she had a girls night and helped put up the Christmas tree. She was dazzled by the lights and uses the tree skirt as a pillow!  Abby is getting her teeth cleaned on November 29.

November 9, 2019 – Abby is becoming comfortable in our home. She is settling into a routine and we are now at 5 days without any accidents! She loves attention and will wag her tail at anyone who glances her way. Last night there was a fire alarm at our building and she was in heaven getting loves from all of the firefighters who came to say hello while we waited downstairs. Abby is thrilled to get to sleep on the big bed and likes to wake you up by climbing on your chest and giving you kisses on your face. If you’re not quite ready to wake up yet, she will happily curl up on your chest and go back to sleep. She really just wants to be wherever you are. She still doesn’t like us humans touching her ears, eyes, or snout, but we are building trust every day. It seems as if her hearing is improving (marginally)–she sometimes hears high pitched noises and will start to bark. She still doesn’t respond to her name or any commands, though.  Abby is a wonderful and happy houseguest!

October 30, 2019 – Abby is a happy girl who loves attention. She is content to trot behind you as you do household chores as long as you take a minute or two to snuggle her every now and then. She gets the zoomies when she sees her leash and harness and will run around in circles while waiting for the elevator. She enjoys a nice long walk and will go with you for however long you wish. Her hind legs are very stiff in the mornings when she wakes up and it takes her a couple of minutes to adjust and get moving, but once she gets going she doesn’t stop! To relax, she likes to lie on a couch pillow. She is not shy to let you know she wants up, and will stand on her hind legs to say “give me a lift!”. She still isn’t responsive to noise despite the ear medication, so it is likely that she is deaf or have very selective hearing. We attended the vet last night to get her final dose of ear medication and provided a urine sample. Since Sunday, there has only been one accident inside: at a time where she had just been taken out but I was not giving her all of the attention. We think her indoor accidents are behavioral and are now very cautious to take her outside before a time when all eyes might not be on her (like when we are eating dinner or while I take a bath).
When it comes to food, she is curious but not food motivated. She is a grazer and won’t always go to her food right away, and sometimes leaves it to come back to it a short while later.

October 22, 2019 – Abby came in last Friday after her owner sadly passed away.  This sweet girl is a bundle of energy who follows us wherever we go. She particularly enjoys being up on the couch and will hop up on her hind legs to let us know she is looking for a lift!  Abby is a mouth breather and has quite the pug snorts.  She has yet to respond to any sound (even her name), and seems to have some sensitivity with her ears. Her face and paws seem almost constantly itchy and she’s gnawing on her paws and rubbing her face up against any corner, wall, or blanket she can find.  Abby curled up on the big bed with us last night and slept the whole night through. She LOVES walks and gets very excited when she sees her leash. She is very good on her leash and it is hilarious to watch her ears bounce as she trots.
She is a special little girl.  Abby is going to the vet tonite for a complete check up.

LILI

Age: 6
Adoption Fees: $300

November 27, 2019 – Lili is gone to her forever home.  She will be showered with love by her retired mom & dad.

November 24, 2019 – Lili went to vet yesterday. The vet was very happy with her eyes. For now, she will require lubricant eye drops 4 times daily and cyclosporine eye ointment twice daily. With time, the new owner may be able to decrease cyclosporine to once daily, with continued improvement.
Lili is full of life and feeling great. She is a pleasure to have around and always makes us laugh.

November 21, 2019 – Lili is doing her business outside now, and will need continued patience and persistence to engrain this behaviour in to her routine. She requires eye lubricant three times daily.  She has “dry” eyes, which is quite common with pugs.  At the moment she gets lubricant drops & cyclosporine, to be assessed today at the vet to see if she needs to continue to get both lubricant and cyclosporine.
No small children for this girl please as she requires a more quiet, and calm environment.  Although she is nervous in new situations she does settle in quickly. Lili would like a home with another small, gentle natured dog.
If you are looking for a sweet, quiet girl for a companion, Lili is your girl.  Lili will soon be available for adoption.

November 15, 2019 – Lili is recovering well from her spaying surgery.  She will be on antibiotics until Tuesday November 19. Lili needs a home with no small children. (She gets very anxious and can “paw” at little ones and scratch them).
Another small gentle dog would be great.  She doesn’t like to be left alone too much.

November 11, 2019 – Lili hasn’t had an accident for a week in the house. She is well on her way.
Lili loves to run in little circles tossing her toys around and gently yipping. This lasts about 10 min then she’s ready to settle down beside you and have another snooze.
Lili is a wonderful little girl at night, sleeping in her comfy crate which is lined with an old down coat.  She snuggles down and we don’t hear a peep from her until morning. Because Lili is still nervous in new environments and seems frightened when there are loud noises or commotion, we feel a home with no young children would be best.
Lili would certainly enjoy the company of another gentle natured small dog.  She is quite relaxed when we go out if she can see the other resident pugs.
She would do best with someone who would not leave her alone for very long periods.  This will also make the routine of toilet training continue to be successful.  This tiny girl is the sweetest little pug.  She is so gentle and easy to have around.  All that she requires is some someone to love and the warmth of a nice home (and a good down blanket).

November 9, 2019 – Lili is doing awesome. She is starting to be more playful and is very funny. She is a low energy dog, and does not require a lot of exercise. Because she has a very thin coat of hair she cannot tolerate the the cold very well (she sheds very little). 2 short walks a day is all is needs. (10 min). She runs around the house a bit and scampers around but this is also fairly short lived and she will find her bed and fall into a deep sleep.
When she came to us she was very fearful. Cringing when you bend over to pat her and very reluctant to leave the security of her crate (which we leave the door open to most of the time). As time passes she has learned that she can trust us and is spending more time outside her crate. She was also very fearful of doing her business, Lili can hold it longer than any pug we have ever fostered. Lots of patience waiting for her to go, and getting her on a regular schedule seems to be working. This is work her adoptive Family will need to continue with and need patience to let her learn that this is how you expect her to behave.
She continues with the eye drops and we think her eyes look good most of the time. Less digging and rubbing face on blankets etc. This is something she will need for life. Hopefully she will get down to once or twice a day.
Overall, this little Mighty Mouse is a joy to have and with love and patience would be an amazing companion.

October 30, 2019 – Lili is settling into her new foster home. We are working on the toilet training, she can hold it for a very long time and if we put her out frequently she does eventually go.  No accidents inside yet.
She is still getting frequent eye drops and her eyes seem to be responding to the treatment.  They still get dry and have thick mucous at times but she also has times where they look moist and “normal”.
Lili loves to sit beside you and be with you.  She can be playful, but so far seems to be a fairly low energy pug.  Sleeping a lot and lying about in the sun.
This picture was taken on Big Rideau Lake, she had gone for long walk and was enjoying a rest before heading back.  Stay tuned for more on Lili as we spend more time with her.

October 22, 2019 – Lili went to the vet yesterday for a complete checkup and to be brought up to date in her vaccination.  She has no tears in her eyes and requires tear gel for the rest of her life.  The vet believe she has 10% sight on the left eye and 50% on the right but that doesn’t stop this sweet girl.  Lili will get spayed and have her teeth cleaned in the coming weeks. She is a very affectionate little girl. Loves to cuddle & give kisses. She’s very well behaved. Eats well. Is well mannered. Doesn’t bother with the cat. The cat was drinking water and she was eating beside her in the dual bowl. She has gone for a couple of walks. But prefers to follow me around the yard to get her exercise. Couldn’t care that there are barking dogs on both sides of me. She’s met the children next door. Was super excited to get hugs and attention from them. She just loves people and attention.  She sleep through the night in a dog bed next to mine. She’s getting better at hitting pee pads. I think her biggest issue is her eye sight.  I’ve noticed that if she stops to smell something while we’re in the yard she losses track of me and gets confused. If I call her or clap she can come to me.  Lili made wonderful progress last night and got up from her bed in the bedroom and went into the kitchen to use the pee pad. She partially missed but a total win that she didn’t go in her bed or the bedroom. Today was her vet visit. It went well. She squirmed quite a bit but took the needles like a champ. Afterwards we walked in the yard and for the first time she peed outside. We celebrate with lots of praise and a treat.

October 16, 2019 – Lili just came in this afternoon.  She is a 6 year old puppy mill survivor.  Lili is about 11lbs and she has a burn mark on her back.  She also has dry eyes and ear infection.  She has 3 different medication to put in her eyes + tear gel and medication to put in her ears.  Lili is the sweetest little girl and she is very friendly and cuddly.

November 16, 2019 – Lou has been adopted by her foster mom, she is living a dream life with her best friend, Pepper, the Boston terrier.

November 13, 2019 – Lou likes to run in the snow No issues with her going out to do her business ….
Her nostrils are still looking a bit sore so I still keep her cone on. She has been feeling better with the Metacam and has her energy back and wants to play Thankfully she is very good with her cone and I will take it off only if she’s next to me on the couch and just for a short while . She will try to rub her nose if she can get to it.  She got a new sweater last week for her walks , just in time for the cold snowy weather.  Lou loves to cuddle and sit on my lap , she also loves to cuddle with the resident Boston, they just love each other, so cute to see them together.  Her appetite is great.  Lou loves her walks and car rides and gets really excited when she sees the harness but then she runs away and it’s quite the game catching her. She is stubborn and comes only if she feels like it or if I go out of sight !  Little Lou is definitely starting to feel better, her stitches are still in and her nostrils should soon be completely healed.

November 12, 2019 – Lou is healing nicely.
She is doing very well on raw food diet.
Despite her surgeries , she is a happy sweet little girl, very tolerant with her cone collar. In another week, if her nostrils are healed we can ditch that cone.
Lou is very attached to me and likes to be on my lap or just snuggles next to me.
Lou is a bit naughty at times and runs away if I’m trying to get her to come in … Just a tad stubborn ! She likes to play and do zoomies but we’ve kept it to a minimum as she’s healing … My grandson was visiting tonight and Lou was just so lovable and curious about him .,. She just wanted to sit next to him and she was so gentle.

October 30, 2019 – Lou was spayed on Monday and had her soft palate shorten and nostrils enlarged.  She is back to her foster mom for a smooth recovery.  Lou will be available for adoption as soon as she is completely healed.

October 23, 2019 – Lou has transitioned to raw food very well. She has fast become buddies with Pepper, the resident Boston Terrier, but will still try to chase the cats if she can. Lou is very smart and responds to “no” very well.  She continues to love her car rides and going for her walks. She enjoys being outside in the yard as long as I’m with her , and surprisingly she will go do her business in the rain … She has been well trained in that area !  She likes to run around and play.
What a beautiful little girl Lou is, so full of love and just like a pug, a constant shadow.

October 7, 2019 – What a bundle of joy Lou is ! No adverse reactions to her shots and had a great checkup at the vet last Friday. Her ears need some attention but I have some Burrows here to administer. Lou is healthy and full of happy energy .. She likes to chase the resident cats.  The cats are taking a wide berth right now and want nothing to do with her and it’s good they sleep in the day and are on the move at night.  Lou has quite a snore and does mouth breathing after running around. She walks good on the leash, we had a good walk today and loves to also run around the yard …. Has done a few zoomies.
She is great with other dogs.  Her weight is good at 20lbs.
She is used to the ramp up to the bed now and the stairs to the couch.
Lou is pretty smart and is quite curious ! She is also completely housetrained , no accidents ….
Loves to be close to her people and in typical pug fashion follows me wherever I go.  Lou also loves the car and is a good passenger ! She is a delight.

October 2, 2019We welcomed Lou today.  This sweet 2-3 year girl has  been found stray and never claimed after a few weeks.  Lou will be going to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in her vaccination.
