POLO – HOSPICE PUG

Age: 13 1/2 years old (as of Nov 2023)
Adoption Fees: Hospice Pug

January 8, 2024 – Polo ended 2023 with a bang. On New Year’s Eve Polo had either a seizure/ heart attack or syncope/ vasal vagal episode. It was pretty scary, his foster parents took him to Capital City Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital. Polo had blood work and x-rays. At first their was a worry of fluid on his lungs – thankfully that was ruled out. They also ruled out heart failure, and a heart attack. It was determined he does have some bronchiolitis which he was given a cough suppressant to use as needed. His foster parents will closely monitor him for any repeat episodes. Polo is doing well at home, his foster sister has been keeping close watch over him and giving him a lot of snuggles. He seems more comfortable on walks because he is coughing less. Every dollar donated to UMWPR helps so much, it keeps pugs like Polo happy and healthy. Thank you for your continued support.

December 7, 2023 – Hi friends, it’s me Polo. I wanted to check in and say hi. This week, I went to the vet to have my blood work checked because I take pain medication daily and I’m a super senior. Everything looks good and my kidneys and liver are happy. I am not happy about this winter weather, and would like to stay inside snuggled in my bed, but I still have to go out to do my business. I am excited this week a former foster pug is coming to stay with me for a week while his family goes on vacation and another foster pug is coming to visit. It’s going to be a pug party. Lastly, did you buy your UMWPR 2024 Calendar yet?? I’m Mr. November and I look pretty handsome if I do say so myself

July 25, 2023 – Hello! I have been enjoying summer (mostly in the air conditioning). I enjoy laying out in the sun before it gets too hot.

I sometimes show my age with my mobility but I get injections that are definitely helping. My foster parents think I don’t see and hear super well, but I get eye drops and they help me so much. I am slower, but I still go for short walks four times a day.
I love dinner time so much that I usually put on quite the show about an hour before dinner time. I bounce and spin, and bark and play with toys and try to get an early dinner.
I went camping again for a few days and I really enjoyed it. I am going to do some more of that this summer so I can enjoy the nice weather. I like that we still have air conditioning when camping.
Thank you to everyone who donates to keep me healthy, fed and loved. I am really enjoying my retirement with Under My Wing.

March 6, 2023 – Have you been hibernating like me this winter?  I don’t mind short walks, but I really prefer napping in my warm bed or snuggling my foster sister. I had the best time ever at the ‘Running of the Pugs’ event. I met so many nice people and pugs and I was uncharacteristically social. I was super tired afterwards. Even though I have been with the rescue for over a year now my foster family says they are still finding out new things about my personality. I have started to become quite playful, especially before dinner time and bedtime. I am looking forward to springtime and spending more time outside.

November 28, 2022 –  Hi it’s me Polo!  I have been enjoying the fall weather so much lately. I went to the country for Thanksgiving and had so much fun laying in the sunshine. I got dressed up for Halloween as Tigger and I have been enjoying nice walks in the warm sunshine with the cool breeze. My eye is healing nicely and I’m still doing moisturizing eye drops throughout the day. My foster parents upgraded my bowl to a fluff trough to make it easier for me to eat my food. I’m not as messy now and I don’t have to lean down as far to eat. My leg is doing very well, I continue to do short walks and my foster parents carry me up and down stairs like the king that I am.
September 7, 2022 – Polo has had a few recent setbacks. He has been struggling to mobilize and not wanting to walk as far. He recently fell and subsequently went to the vet and has either torn his ACL or has a pinched meniscus. Polo is not a candidate for surgery due to his advantage age and overall health. He has been placed on rest for three months and is on some additional pain medication to help. He also has significant arthritis to that limb. Polo thinks he won the lottery as he gets carried up and down stairs and gets picked up when he’s walked far enough. He has responded well to the rest and the medication and is able to do very small walks.
Additionally we have discovered a lump about the size of a golf ball in Polo’s front left armpit, it is new so we will be having that checked out at the veterinarian’s office. It doesn’t cause him discomfort, but it does affect his mobility and has grown fairly quickly.
Prior to these setbacks Polo did get to go camping again this summer. He enjoyed spending time with the two other dogs and children that joined us on this trip. This time the added fun was a comfy wagon for when Polo and his foster sister got tired and also great for naps by the fire. They were the talk of the campground enjoying their wagon rides.

Polo is still the happiest, sweetest boy who loves to snuggle and give kisses. He’s still very vocal, especially about his meals. We hope these setbacks will be minor and we can keep his health and mobility improving.

August 5, 2022
– Hi There! It’s me Polo, I haven’t checked in lately. I have been very busy enjoying this great summer weather. I went camping, or as my foster parents call it “glamping”. I went on boat rides, I rode in a golf cart, I sun bathed, I went swimming ( Well I got my legs wet), I took long naps in the air conditioned trailer. I made so many new friends too (dogs and human). My foster Mom says the whole campground fell in love with me. Even though they all laughed at me when I howled when my Foster Dad went fishing. My favorite part was in the evening falling asleep in someone’s arms by the fire. On my second camping trip I met up with two of my dog friends, they brought their humans camping too. I slept the whole way home snuggling my foster sister Lucy after our adventures. I can’t wait to go again!
PS: Thank you for all your support, I am having the most fun and relaxing retirement being a Under My Wing Hospice Pug.

May 14, 2022 – Polo has been enjoying the warm weather. He wants you to know that we should all slow down, stop and enjoy the flowers, and the sidewalk is a perfect place to stop and take a nap on a sunny warm day.

Polo has been eating well and only mildly protesting that we cut back on his food for the last month. He was weighed this week and he is 17.6lbs. He looks and feels much healthier at this weight. He is having regular bowel movements too. He continues on gabapentin capsules and they make his tummy much happier especially because it’s inside a pill pocket treat.
Polo has decided he runs his foster home (as he should). So he has changed wake up time to 6am… Sometimes his internal clock is off and he tries to ask for breakfast at 5am. He’s very cute though so we allow it. He also tries to adjust dinner time an hour earlier and dances and howls at us to get our attention.
Polo now sleeps on the floor with his foster sister Lucy. She is injured and he didn’t want to be apart from her. So they got a new bed to snuggle together on.
Polo loves baths, he had one last week and he was so happy afterwards.
Polo has made some new dog friends on our walks recently. He recently met a cat, he was very unsure what to make of this.
Polo continues his training for separation anxiety. He does pretty well most times for about two hours. Any longer than that and he starts to get anxious and bark. Luckily that’s about as long as we have ever needed to leave him. He has regressed a bit with his car behavior so we are working on that.
Polo hopes to go camping this summer. He’s not sure what it is but his foster sister Lucy tells him it’s the best time.
April 13, 2022 – Polo has become quite the little ham these days. He is obviously feeling better now that his UTI is cleared up. He has become quite playful and silly. Especially before meal times. We have to discourage the barking to keep consistency with our training, but his happy dance and circles are the cutest. Since changing Polo’s medication from a liquid to a pill form he is much happier. He no longer tries to avoid his food. He also isn’t pooping on every walk and his poops seem more substantial. I guess that means the liquid was irritating his digestion.

Since Polo’s infection has cleared up we have noticed he has put on some weight. He looks much healthier now. We also had to back off of his food now. We can no longer see all of his ribs and we are working on building muscle during our walks, including some hills for extra strength training.

Speaking of walks, Polo couldn’t be happier about Spring time! He is enjoying sniffing all the new smells on his walk. He has also developed what I would call “Pugitude”, it’s an attitude unique to pugs, especially when they become stubborn. This usually happens when they start to become comfortable in their surroundings. Polo lays down on walks when he doesn’t want the walk to end, especially if the sun is shining.

Polo continues to work on barking/ separation anxiety when we leave the home. He does really well some days, not barking for up to two hours. Other days he only lasts a few minutes. We stay consistent with him. He does best when he can snuggle his foster sister when we leave. We know that he may never be able to be fully trained out of this behaviour, but that’s okay.

Polo loves when people on the street stop and say hello, he does not understand why they wouldn’t want to stop and say hello.

March 8, 2022 – Polo completed his antibiotics today and had his urine rechecked and it is clear, no sign of crystals. He is very happy to not take the antibiotics anymore. Polo is very much looking forward to warmer weather (like all of us).
Polo is improving some of his socializing skills with other dogs. We are continuing our training regarding barking and separation anxiety antics. Overall it has improved, but he is very stubborn and has been through a lot so we do not expect perfection. We have found that he is more playful in the evening and it has been fun watching him come out of his shell a bit and show that side of him.

February 10, 2022 – Polo has been feeling better and has completed his antibiotic course. Will have his urine retested to ensure the infection is gone. He does seem to be more playful since receiving the antibiotics so we are glad to see he is feeling better. We had increased his gabapentin to see if it would impact his mobility/ improve his limp. However as the our Vet suspected it made him too drowsy and didn’t change his mobility, so we returned to the regular dosage. It may just be something he has live with. Polo has shown some improvement when it comes to barking when we leave the home. It isn’t consistent, but there is still improvement. Part of that success can be attributed to his foster sister Lucy who snuggles him when the humans leave. We continue to give Polo a lot of support and training to help him feel more secure to be on his own (even if just for short periods of time).

January 12, 2022 – We have had a lot of training success recently with Polo. Polo now has no problem with car rides. He no longer has to be in the same room as humans, and can do so without barking. We have now had a few successful outings where Polo was home and there was NO barking! It isn’t consistent yet but it is a huge deal. He is becoming a well adjusted pug and is nearly ready for adoption. We think a couple more weeks of consistent training and we will be ready for his forever home! He thrives on routine and is very treat driven so he’s doing very well with his training. He is no longer attached to the “foster dad” in the home, but is now becoming attached to the “foster mom”. So we are working on reversing that behaviour so that he is content with himself.

One thing we keep forgetting to mention is that he is the very BEST pug when it comes to cutting his nails. I know its hard to believe but he will basically let you hold him like a baby and he doesn’t squirm or make a fuss. Polo has not had any toileting accidents in a long time. We do limit/ time his water intake and that has helped a lot. He goes on 4 walks a day and he enjoys most of them. He hates the bedtime walk because he just wants to stay inside where its warm.

January 6, 2022 – Polo went to stay with some close pug friends for a weekend. It was a good test to see how he would do in a new environment with new people and dogs. His foster sister Lucy joined him. He did pretty well overall, a few toileting accidents and he definitely tried to demand more attention. He is pretty adaptable and has a real fondness for children and of course for snuggling.

Polo did show some signs of regression with his training upon returning home to his foster home. We are working diligently to correct this behaviour and it just shows we have some more work to do. We are staying consistent though and he is showing signs of improvement. Polo is doing very well riding in vehicles now.
Something new we have noticed as the cold weather is upon us, is that Polo wheezes and coughs in weather -10 degrees Celsius or more. He’s fine if the weather is warmer, and he doesn’t do it indoors at all. He wears a coat and booties in the cold and that has helped with his comfort outdoors, but ultimately we keep his walks shorter in the cold weather.
Polo was very excited for Santa to come, he had visions of treats and toys in his head. He actually started playing with a stuffed animal for the first time this week. Its fun to see more of his personality come out the more he becomes more comfortable and lets go of his anxiety.

December 16, 2021 – Polo has been working very hard on his training. We are seeing a lot of improvements. Polo is learning how to be home with no humans. Still some barking, but significantly less. He is able to be apart from us in the house and not bark for longer periods of time. Polo is definitely becoming more confident which is really great to see. It takes a lot of time and patience but we are staying consistent with his training and hope he will  He still occasionally has an accident in the house despite four regular walks a day. He’s had about one accident a week, but he also drinks quite a bit of water so that could be limited some as well. Like most pugs Polo is not a fan of winter or the cold. He does much better when wearing a coat and booties for his walks. Tonight Polo had a nice bath, he was a bit nervous at first but then he loved it. He is all ready for Christmas and his hoping Santa will find him a forever home in the New Year.

November 28, 2021 – Polo is doing extremely well with training since his 1st training session with the dog trainer. He is learning to feel safe and secure by himself. He is learning how to manage his separation anxiety. His biggest challenge is being left alone, he isn’t quite ready to be left alone yet, but his progress is showing great improvement and with consistency we are confident that he will get there. Polo is very smart and learns quickly. He is also doing much better with his anxiety in car rides. Each ride gets a little easier. Polo continues to enjoy his food and does a funny dance before each meal. He has had no accidents recently. Polo continues to enjoy his short walks, he goes on 4 short walks a day, he gets along with most dogs he meets but does not like high energy/puppy like dogs. He knows how to create distance for himself with these dogs. He walks very well on leash and is very responsive to whoever is handling him.  We are looking forward to seeing more and more great results from Polo’s training, so that he will be set up for success in his future forever home.

November 22, 2021 – Polo has shown significant improvement with riding in cars, which has been very encouraging that the work we are doing with him is improving. He doesn’t even seem to mind the vacuum anymore at all. We are still having great difficulty with leaving Polo alone, even for a couple minutes. Because of this we are going to be working with a local dog trainer to get some tips and tools to help support him feeling more comfortable with being left alone. Polo did have one accident this week with toileting, but it was very close to walk time. Overall Polo does seem very happy, especially before meal time. He now does a circle dance and happy bark right before meals and its very entertaining. Polo really enjoys the company of his foster sister, he really would do well in a home with an existing calm dog, preferably a pug. He’s so happy these days, its hard to get a photo of him while awake and still as he’s learning to play. Stay tuned for further updates on Polo’s training and progress.

October 26, 2021
– Polo is making some positive improvement with his anxiety/ behaviour. This week, Polo learned not to be scared of the vacuum. He allowed us to vacuum and we gave him positive feedback and reinforcement throughout this. He also had no accidents during this time. As he gets more comfortable, he is also getting more stubborn. He is not quite ready to trust approaching or sitting in a vehicle yet. But we are working on slowly leaving him alone. We are up to about a minute or two before he shows signs of stress. This requires a lot of patience and time for both us and Polo. We are doing small sessions each day so he doesn’t get too overwhelmed. From everything we have learned about separation anxiety, it takes a lot of time to overcome but we think we are on the right track.
Polo is taking Gabapentin as well to help with his anxiety and to help with a small limp he has, likely related to a previous Lyme infection and/or perhaps some arthritis. It mostly doesn’t bother him too much, unless he has been laying down for an extended period of time.
Polo is enjoying his meals and walks. He’s starting to walk a little further and isn’t sitting/lying down as often on the walks. He goes to the bathroom regularly on our scheduled walks and hasn’t had any accidents this week.
Polo is a snuggle machine, he loves sleeping near his foster family or curled up with his foster sister Lucy.
October 12, 2021 – It has been a big week for Mr. Polo. We are making some small positive steps with his separation anxiety. He is slowly showing signs of confidence. He is not ready to be alone for any amount of time yet, but he is learning to trust and starting to show signs of relaxing. We plan to work with him on positive reinforcement with respect to him staying alone. Eventually working on exposure training with riding in vehicles & vacuums. It will take some time for him to be ready.
Polo is eating his diet well, he loves breakfast time and does many spins before his meal. He’s adjusting well with his meal times. Polo is going to the bathroom outside regularly. His only accidents have been related to his separation anxiety. Currently he is not being left alone at any time.
Polo enjoys his walks, but tires easily and will have a sit to tell us he’s done.
Polo loves to sleep. He has discovered a very comfy dog bed in our living room that occupies much of his day, and at night he sleeps with his foster family in the big bed. Polo loves his foster sister Lucy and showers her in kisses every chance he gets. He also gets along really well with dogs he meets on his walks, both big and small dogs. He’s very sweet and gentle with kids and adults alike.
October 4, 2021 – Polo is happy to have 2 meals a day instead of only one in the morning. He enjoys his 4 walks a day, but it doesn’t appear as if he is used to walking all that much. He is very hesitant when he is picked up off the floor and pit on the bed, it doesn’t appear as though he was picked up often. It appears as though Polo has separation anxiety and will require a lot of reassurance to make it over the hurdle. He had a nice walk and went back to sleep and seems to have a little more pep in his step this morning. Routine and constant assurance is required.
Overall he is a super sweet boy and we are happy to have him around.

October 2, 2021 – Polo came to us today.  He was surrendered by his owner due to medical reasons (owner had a stroke).  Polo is 11 years old and he is neutered.  He will be going to the vet tomorrow for a complete check up + blood work.  Polo gets along very well with other dogs and he is a sweetheart to have around.  He does seem to have separation anxiety but a lot happened in his life lately.  Stay tuned for more on this sweet boy soon.

NANA

Age: 8
Adoption Fees: $500

October 26, 2021 – Unfortunately, Nana passed away after going to the vet because she wasn’t eating.  The vet performed a surgery to remove 15cm of dead small intestine and our sweet girl didn’t make it. RIP sweet Nana.

October 12, 2021 – Nana has been feeling much better this past week and has almost gained full control of her bladder showing she is house trained. She is asking to play fetch with the ball, and sometimes plays tag with her foster siblings. Nana still tires very quickly even on short walks due to her breathing difficulties. This also means her breathing is quite noisy just walking around the house, unless she is has been at rest for a few minutes. Nana can often be found snuggling with her foster sister, and loves to follow her foster family through the house.

October 4, 2021 – Nana had a surgery to remove several stones in her bladder and she was also spayed.  We have decided to go ahead with the stone removal surgery sooner as she was in bad discomfort and most likely pain.  The procedures went very well and she is back to her foster family for a smooth recovery.  A biopsy of her bladder has been sent for analysis.

September 30, 2021 – At 21 pounds, Nana has been working hard at getting herself back to a healthier weight. Today she walked the farthest stretch yet, enjoying the benefit of making it to the edge of the nature trail. She has completed her round of antibiotics to treat a UTI so her urgency has greatly reduced, but she is still struggling with her bladder control and blood in her urine. It is a pleasure to see Nana starting to play with balls and the other dogs more regularly. Nana will be having a surgery October 4 to remove the stones in her bladder and provide more relief of her symptoms. Nana prefers to be next to her humans and fur friends instead of being alone.

September 17, 2021 – Nana came in yesterday.  She is 8 years old and not spayed.  Nana went to the vet yesterday afternoon as she has had blood in her urine for several months.  The vet took xrays and saw numerous stones in her bladder.  Before we can think of having those surgically removed, Nana will need to lose 2kg.  Despite her health condition, Nana is in good spirit and she is super nice and friendly.  She settled well for her night.  Stay tuned for more on Nana in the coming week.

BUTTERS – HOSPICE PUG

Age: 12
Adoption Fees: Hospice Pug

June 19, 2023 – Butters was euthanized this morning as his quality of life failed in the past months.  He was having chronic UTI and had almost completely lost the usage of his hind legs.  We have made the very hard decision to let him go, he was surrounded with his loving foster mum.

March 6, 2023 – Butters has had a difficult winter and at times we’ve questioned if it was closer to his time to cross the rainbow bridge. We noticed he was more anxious and panting again, as well as drinking and peeing a lot. His thyroid levels had increased again, so his medications were adjusted. That adjustment did help normalize his levels and improved his symptoms.  The other issue has been worsening myelopathy. His back end function has deteriorated and he does require assistance outside and at times around the house. He has had increased stool and urinary incontinence that goes along with this progression.  Despite these things, he loves playing with his puppy pal who he lives with, enjoys his food, and loves lying at my feet. I still feel he has quality of life when I watch him, but I keep a close eye to make sure he isn’t uncomfortable. It is always a difficult decision to make, but we have been lucky to have Butters with us for almost two years, and feel we will know and he will tell us when it is time.

August 5, 2022 – Butters has been enjoying the summer so far. Relaxing at home in the yard, going for short strolls, and having spa vacations at Casa Donnie.  His thyroid has been stable with medications. His back end has been giving him more trouble at times especially when more active. He needs help getting up the two deck steps in the yard now.  He continues to have a good appetite. His food was recently switched and we have found he is pooping inside less often now. Overall he remains his happy self with his teddy bear face and perfect tail curl

June 13, 2022 – Bring on the sunshine! Butters is loving lounging in the backyard now that milder temps are here. Sometimes he will bark at little critters passing by while he watches from inside the patio doors.  He is moulting these days. There are tufts of hair everywhere, but such is the pug life! He sailed through his dental surgery and has been feeling pretty well overall. His appetite is good and he is still hopeful that the toddler might drop scraps.

Butters continues to have good and bad days with his hind end. He remains on Metacam for comfort. He still has bowel movements in his bed overnight, but we try to keep on top of things during the day.  This sweet guy is just enjoying life day by day currently. I will be sure to take some photos outside on the next sunny day

May 4, 2022 – Bring on the sunshine! Butters is loving lounging in the backyard now that milder temps are here. Sometimes, he will bark at little critters passing by while he watches from inside the patio doors.  Butters sailed through his dental surgery and has been feeling pretty well overall.

February 14, 2022 – Butters has been holding his own for the most part, but we have needed to adjust his thyroid medications to keep his levels in control. He is booked for dental surgery on February 23. Otherwise he keeps a fairly quiet lifestyle – relaxing most of the day. He enjoys napping, getting pets and occasionally barking at things passing by in the backyard.

Butters still loves to eat! He hasn’t been so keen on the cold weather and I think he looks forward to warmer days in the backyard. For now he prefers the dog bed or curling up at my feet.
His ears can get bothersome, so we clean them regularly. He is mainly incontinent of stool, so daily clean ups are required. He urinates outside if let out frequently with a rare accident in the house here and there.
He continues to be very sweet with occasional glimpses of his pug spunk
January 6, 2022 – Butters enjoyed Christmas with us. He got a new toy, as we have found that he does enjoy a good play every now and then. He did find going to another house during the holiday a bit stressful. As long as he had company, he was okay. He wouldn’t have liked being left alone or crated during the visit though.
His thyroid levels have come down with adjustments to his medication. We are aiming to get it down a bit further in hopes that he might be able to get his teeth cleaned. His breath could peel paint on the walls!
Butters has a good appetite and enjoys his day to day activities. He is endlessly patient with our kids and he really is a gem.
December 6, 2021 – We are a little less active outside with the colder weather these days. Butters finds the footing a bit more challenging, but has mostly been okay going in and out to the backyard. We still have daily pickups of poop in the house, but I can tell he wants to be able to get outdoors.
He is a very food motivated boy. We wishes he could eat people food and other treats, but has done very well on his weight maintenance food.
He has calmed down significantly with his thyroid levels in better control and feeling secure here. We haven’t seen the same anxiety as when he arrived and he does better in the car (but shorter trips are still best).
For now we are in status quo and keep a simple routine. He still get his blood checked every 3-4 weeks to monitor his thyroid and otherwise he is enjoying a quiet lifestyle (aside from noisey kids!).

October 12, 2021 – Butters has been enjoying our day to day routine and feels at home here. He enjoys short walks around the neighborhood and romps in the backyard. He is very gentle with everyone and my infant daughter adores him. She is even trying to say Butters.  He gets a bit anxious if his routine is thrown off, but this has improved overall thanks to his medications. We have been increasing his dose of thyroid medications and have started seeing some improvement in the numbers.

Butters remains on a weight management diet and has a good appetite. His weight has stabilized now. He continues to drink more water, but this has decreased from when he first came. He is not incontinent of urine and is good about asking to go outside.  He remains incontinent of stool, but tries his best to get to the door when he can.
We continue to see the vet regularly to check his thyroid levels and otherwise ensure he is comfortable. We use a daily dose of Metacam for this, as he does have difficulties with his back end especially if he has had more active day.

June 29, 2021 – Butters is currently finishing up a second antibiotic for an ear infection, and his ears look good on recheck.  Unfortunately his thyroid levels are still very high with his most recent blood work.  He enjoys bring active, but is limited by his weak hind end. He is able to zip around the yard and go on short walks, but is unable to go up stairs (more than 1 or 2). We have done a trial of Metacam to ensure he is comfortable.  He has a good appetite and is eager to eat at mealtimes.  He is doing well on his W/D kibbles. He drinks more than average and requires more frequent trips outside. He still struggles with bowel incontinence, but we just clean up and carry on. He is less fond of going outside in the rain – typical pug in that way!  He is a sweet pug with a kind heart, and he is a pleasure to have in our home.

June 9, 2021 – Butters has really settled well into our routine here. He loves being around people and relaxing at their feet. He still remains quite attached to me in particular.  He has a funny and cute habit of gathering my shoes in his bed to cuddle with. He does not damage the shoes at all. Currently I count 4 of my shoes in the dog bed (no one else’s shoes – just mine).  Butters has done well with his transition to a weight management diet. He does not feel his bowel movements until they are happening. During the day, I can often tell the signs and whisk him outside, but he will frequently be incontinent overnight. There will be a trail starting at his bed and going to the door, as he does not have warning.  Butters still has some anxiety with traveling, but has done much better with his last few trips. He is good in the car, but his breathing does become quite laboured. If we blast the a/c and keep him close to us, he does fine in the car.  I feel he has lost weight as I did tighten his harness. He went to the vet to have his blood work repeated today and we will know the results in a few days.

May 31, 2021 – It took this wee boy a few days to recover after the vet, but Butters is back to his baseline. He is eating well again and is not stressed when at home and in a regular routine. He will sometimes get a bit anxious when I am in another part of the house as he likes to be close to me.  He settles and just sleeps if I go out for longer periods though. We have noticed he has a raspy bark when he does try to call for us or when excited. At times he can have a little of trouble settling down. He paces a bit and pants.
Butters gets along well with the resident dog and children. He is hopeful they will drop food at the table, but we are keeping a close eye to make sure he isn’t getting anything.
May 24, 2021 – Butters went to the vet, he weights 24.5lbs.  His thyroid level are a bit high so we will be monitoring that and Butters has a recheck at the vet on June 8.  Butters had bilateral ear infection that is actually being treated with antibiotics.  He seems to have elongated soft palate and narrow nostrils.  We will see how he will be once he drops a few kg.
May 17, 2021 – Butters just came in yesterday.  He was surrendered as his owners didn’t have time for him anymore.  Butters looks like a big teddy bear and seems very sweet. He was quite anxious on arrival and was panting quite a bit. He was exhausted and did settle after a time when set up with a soft bed and some water.
He seems much more comfortable with us now. He is my little shadow and looks hopeful about coming up on the couch.  He spends most of his time at my feet. He definitely loves his pets.
Butters didn’t eat last night, but took breakfast today. He ate fairly slowly – I think he may have some difficulty chewing related to his teeth.
He drinks quite a lot of water and is having issues with urinary incontinence/dribbling. I
have been taking him out frequently and I think he is housetrained, but we are using belly bands.
He dribbles intermittently and was soaked through in the morning. He is unable to lift his legs to urinate, so will stand or walk and pee.
We have noticed he has weak hind end.  He can walk around, but struggles with sudden direction changes or if objects are in the way. He has difficulty getting up from sitting/lying at times. His legs will splay in front on him and he kind of spins around when seated. He will drag one leg at times when walking. He has managed 1-2 steps outside, but do not feel comfortable trying a flight of stairs at present. I think the combination of excess weight are making things more difficult for him. He will be seeing the vet this Friday for a complete check up and blood work.
Now that he is more comfortable, I notice that he barks at sights and sounds outside. We will see if this improves as he adjusts to his new surroundings. I think he would try to hump the resident dog if he was physically able to do so.
Butters seems sweet with some underlying spunk, so I’m sure more of his personality will begin to emerge as he settles in.

BUBBAH

Age: 10
Adoption Fees: $300

November 3, 2020 – Bubbah has gone to his forever home, he will be sharing his life with a stay at home mom and a 9 year old pug X buddy.

October 28, 2020 – Bubbah is back with his foster family.  His adoption didn’t work out. Bubbah is a very good boy but he doesn’t like to be left alone in the house.  He doesn’t have separation anxiety, he is rather insecure and we are sure that in the right home and with an adoptive family who will be patient with him, he will thrive and will eventually learn to become a more secure boy.  Ideally, his forever home is a person, a couple or a family where there is someone almost always home.  Bubbah will howl and pace when he is left alone.  He is non destructive at all but he is clearly not happy to be left behind.  Like lots of pugs, Bubbah want to be with his human everywhere they go in the house.  He is a dream dog on walks and his recall is amazing.  If you think you can offer Bubbah a loving forever home, please submit your adoption application.

September 21, 2020 – Bubbah is recovering very well from his dental surgery. After the last update Bubbah started to play with a few different toys. One was a stuffy and the other was a ball. Bubbah loves to go on short walks and is very good on the leash. He loves to be around the lake and will always listen when he is being called, Bubbah enjoys his car rides and having the window down so the wind can blow in his face. Bubbah still chases the resident cat when he sees him. Bubbah loves to be home with people and will follow you around the house. When we do have to go out, Bubbah is a very good boy and will lay close to the door and wait very patiently for you to come back. Bubbah is still drinking from the bathtub, instead of the water dish. Bubbah is a quiet dog that is looking to be spoiled and loved. He is more of a mommy’s boy and will stay close to the female of the house. He likes to sit on the couch beside me and sleep right beside me in bed at night.

September 11, 2020 – If Bubbah was not always following me around I would forget that were fostering him. He is a very quiet easy going pug and will paw at the door if he needs to go out. Bubbah loves to hang out with me. If I am sitting on the couch watching tv, he is by my side with his head resting on me or him laying on me. If I ma sewing he is laying by my feet waiting patiently for me to finish.
As soon as you start to talk to him, you will notice his tail starting to wag, he loves when you talk to him. Bubbah is great on walks, he listens, walks well and does not pull on the leash.
Bubbah has been great around small children, he will pretty much leave them alone. He tries to chase and will bark when he sees the cat. I have not seen him have any interest in toys or dog chews. Bubbah loves to sleep with you through the night and will try and wait patiently for you in the morning to feed him. Bubbah has now been transitioned to raw food and is eating it very well. We are still working on training Bubbah to drink out of a water bowl opposed to the bath tub. Bubbah is getting his teeth cleaned on September 17.

June 8, 2020 – Bubbah is a happy boy.  He loves the outdoor and frolicking in the water.  This sweet boy LOVES kids too.  He has lost 700g in the past 2 weeks and is slowly going to reach his healthy weight with regular walks and limited food intake.  Bubbah is waiting for the veterinarian to start doing medical procedure to get his teeth cleaned.

May 25, 2020 – Bubbah is doing very well.  He loves the outdoors and his walks.  Bubbah is fostered with 2 dogs and he has no problems sharing his life with them.  We discovered that Bubbah likes to be in the water up to hit shoulders and he has a very good recall.  He also LOVES kids.  More on Bubbah in the coming weeks.

May 19, 2020 – Bubbah was surrendered by his owner.  He’s a solid 10 year old boy.  Bubbah is up to date in his vaccination and he will need his teeth cleaned as soon as the veterinary clinics start medical procedures.  Bubbah is 29.7lbs, he needs to lose 7lbs to reach his healthy weight.  Bubbah is a sweet soul who gets along very well with other dogs and kids.  He is quite active for his size.  Stay tuned for more on Bubbah.

ARIANA

Age: 1
Adoption Fees: $575

March 5, 2020 – Ariana & Emma are gone to their forever home together..(:

February 25, 2020 – Emma and Ariana are wonderful roommates.  They’ve adapted to the household schedule and understand that barking is not allowed inside.  A semi-detached home would be suitable as long as they have a backyard.  Both girls have lots of pent up zoomies to release. They learn very quickly, we’ve been working on manners this week.  Thankfully they love their liver treats and are very food motivated as most Pugs are.  Emma is more reserved, Ariana is very enthusiastic about almost everything except meeting other dogs while on her leash.  They are by my side wherever I go, but will entertain themselves or lie down and cuddle together when I’m occupied.  Both girls have been sleeping in the big bed all night and they wait to be lifted down every morning.  Ariana snores and Emma likes to sleep under the covers.  These sweethearts will melt your heart and keep you smiling.

February 20, 2020 – Ariana is doing really well  with her ‘toilet training’.  She is the active one, always looking to play and following me everywhere in typical Pug fashion.  Ariana LOVES to run through the snow like a Husky.  She is very attached to her Sister, they groom each other and love to cuddle.  Ariana and Emma are enjoying their walks and get very excited when I put on their harnesses.  They understand ‘walk’, ‘no’ and ‘bed’.  We are going to work on some other basic commands this week now that Ariana is getting better at going outside to do her business.  She may relapse during the transition to her forever home so patience is required.  They would love a backyard and young humans to play with.  Never a dull moment with these two, they are as entertaining as they are adorable.

February 17, 2020 – Ariana & Emma have settled in over the past two weeks. They’ve progressed from being very noisy and excited when we leave the house to calm and quiet. At least until we get home and they become very animated, bouncing and chirping around to greet us!  Both girls are energetic and need active play. They particularly enjoy a good game of tug-of-war or tag in the backyard. Both Ariana & Emma love to interact with each other and other dogs and children—Emma takes the lead and instigates play with Ariana standing back to assess the situation before joining the fun.  Ariana & Emma are crate trained. While they prefer to be on the human bed to snuggle at night, they are comfortable in their crate for the night so long as they are together. They cuddle one another throughout the night and aren’t out of each other’s sight much during the day. They also love to be your shadow.

Emma is fully house trained and will use a pee pad if she can’t get outside. Ariana is making progress but continues to have some accidents inside. Getting these girls outside multiple times a day avoids any accidents and both are eager to get back inside to be rewarded with a liver treat. Ariana & Emma will soon be looking for a forever home with an active family who can keep up with their high-energy levels!

February 4, 2020 – Emma and Ariana had a good week. Ariana is really good at letting me do her ear drops. We got lots of walks in and currently working on teaching them to walk side by side.  Ariana had a tough week with house training, we are working on this.. This weekend she’s done well but had been out quite a bit in the yard. Neither like to do their business on walks.  Did a trial separation this weekend for a few hours at a time.  Neither liked to be left alone. The one that got to be with me in the back of the house in the sunroom did settle down and slept. Ariana had more difficultly being without Emma. When I leave the house to go out, they settle quite quickly and are excited when I return. Conclusion- both don’t like to be without a person.

January 28, 2020 – Ariana & Emma have been in heaven running in the backyard, they were especially happy when the boys next door came to the fence to pet them. These two love children and love to play. Inside they were very curious and sniffed around the house. I let them out every couple of hours and we even got two nice long walks in. They played with their toys and chased each other around. Adriana likes to clean Emma. They are never far apart and always sleep next to each other. No accidents all day. They don’t like you out of sight. No accidents through the night. Both go in and out easily. Today, while I was at work, there was no accidents and they were happy when I got home to take them for a walk. Emma is a bit skittish and the vocal one, barks a bit when she hears a noise but stops when you tell her no.

January 25, 2020 – Ariana & Emma were surrendered by her owner who didn’t have time for them.  Ariana is 1 year old and she is spayed.  She is a little bit overweight so we will be working on a reduced food intake and regular walks. Ariana is going to the vet this afternoon for a complete check up, to be brought up to date in her vaccination and to get microchipped.

TEDDY

Age: 11
Adoption Fees: $300

February 17, 2020 – Teddy had 26 teeth removed at the vet last week and he was diagnosed with mast cell tumor on his front left foot.  We won’t have him neutered as we don’t want to put him under another anesthesia.  There is no surgery possible for this mast cell tumor other than partial amputation of the leg.  Teddy’s foster family has decided that they wanted to keep him forever and we were very happy with that outcome.  Teddy is now in his forever home….(:

February 12, 2020 – Teddy has had an eventful week. He continues to be sweet as can be, can be timid at first with new people until he smells them and receives a scratch, then he’s friendly as ever. He had the chance to play with a few young children, and did wonderful. He chased them around, and gave and receive kisses and lots of petting from little hands. He always loves his meal time, and lets you know when he thinks it’s time to be fed. He did great at the Winter Paw Thaw on February 9, socializing well with all the other dogs. He had 26 teeth removed during his dental procedure yesterday, and seems to be recovering well tonight. His appetite was definitely normal when he got home, and he was not impressed that his meal was smaller than usual due to taking it easy post surgery. He continues to do well with free range around the main living area, and has had no accidents in the house. He will go near the door at times to signal he would like to go outside. Always loves to be near you, and enjoys all the love and cuddles he is given.  Teddy has a mast cell tumor on his left front foot and the vet recommended to not touch it.  It doesn’t bother him.

February 4, 2020 – Teddy continues to enjoy several walks a day. He would enjoy a backyard at his forever home. We continue with basic training and has mastered “sit” & “down”. Looking forward to meet some fellow pugs at upcoming Winter PawThaw this coming Sunday at Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre.

January 28, 2020 – Teddy has been enjoying the warmer temps and with his Pawz boots, he is getting extended walks in. His dental surgery was delayed to February 11.  Teddy is not much for toys at moment but like a typical pug enjoys his sleep or nap times. We have started treating his facial scar with Vitamin E oil and he does not appear to have any more skin issues. He is eating one protein dog food supplemented with pumpkin.

January 21, 2020 – Teddy is enjoying a warm home and shorter outdoor walks with this cold spell but we have found out tonight that he loves his new balloon Pawz boots. Along with his harness and a sweater, the salt did not bother him tonight. We have added both hemp seed oil and Tri Acta to his evening meal of wet kibble with some pumpkin and he loves his food like a typical pug. His skin is clearing up nicely and he looks forward to his dental procedure on February 11.

January 14, 2020 – We have had a good weekend. Teddy had a nice warm bath and had some playtime with a 4 month old puppy. He does play well with others. I have tried toys but not the greatest luck. He played very briefly with a ball. But could be related to not a big chewer due dental issues. I have got him a smaller ball rather than tennis size. He as mentioned is excellent on leash and not a puller but walks very fast.  He enjoys “smelling everything” and we kept walks to about 4 a day at 15-20 minutes each time. Minimal stratching and hopefully his neck will dry out, but so much better.

January 10, 2020 – We have renamed this sweet boy Teddy, we wanted him to have a new beginning and really, he totally looks like a big teddy bear.

January 7, 2020 – Zorro aka Teddy was at the vet last night.  He has skin infection and his mouth is terrible.  He has an ear & eye infection and an open wound on the left cheek caused by excessive scratching….he went back to his foster mom with antibiotics for skin and teeth, antibiotics for his eyes, 2 types of ear medication and a medication to help reduce the itch.  He also has a lump on his left foot that will be removed when he gets neutered.  He is going back to the vet in 3 weeks for a recheck.  Despite all those ailments, Zorro is such a good boy and has a beautiful disposition.  He is great in the car.

January 6, 2020 – Zorro was dropped at a shelter with his name written on a paper.  He is about 11 years old and he is not neutered.  He has been neglected for a long time based on his skin, ears and eye condition.  He is seeing the veterinarian tonite.  Stay tuned for more on this beautiful boy.

BILLY

Age: 5
Adoption Fees: $400

March 4, 2020 – Our lovable Billy is doing great after his dental procedure on Monday. He needed to have many extractions so he will be feeling much better with this behind him.
Billy is quite the cuddler and loves to snuggle next to his human. Billy doesn’t pay a whole lot of attention to the other animals, unless it’s to steal away a toy. He much prefers to receive lots of attention from people; he is the perfect companion .
He loves his belly rubs, and a little attention to keep his chin area dry as he can sometimes be a bit of a drooler.  Billy is a calm good boy, but gets very excited for his dinner and walk time.  He can make the strangest chirping noises when he’s excited !
He goes potty early in the morning and usually around dinner time. Billy doesn’t mark like most male dogs. Billy is now out of his cone from his neutering surgery and, once he’s all healed from his dental procedure, he will be back to his playful self. Billy does have hearing loss but that doesn’t stop him; he will always come when I bend down and clap my hands together. At dinner time when he’s being animated, he will quiet down when I show him the palm of my hand.
Billy is a sweet boy who loves and deserves lots of attention which he gives back one hundredfold! He just loves his people and will always be by your side.

March 3, 2020 – Billy had his teeth cleaned yesterday and only has 5 left in his mouth.  He is back to his foster home for a smooth recovery.  He had a light dinner last night and is resting with the resident pugs.  Billy’s urine analysis is clear, no more crystals, all good.  The fact that he is now neutered most certainly helps.

February 24, 2020 – Two weeks post surgery for Billy. His neutering has healed perfectly. But much to his chagrin, I still keep his cone on until his face is completely healed. Billy is doing great with his house training. He loves to do his spins around and around to find the perfect spot.  He continues to be a good boy on a walk and is such a good boy all around. Billy just wants to be loved and will follow you and sit quietly until he can get his attention.
He will have his playful moments with his toys and will do a little playing in the yard with the resident pugs but generally, he’s pretty laid back until…. dinner time and than he’s a chirping barking excited pug !!! He likes to hog the spot closest to his human at bedtime, or snuggled on the couch.  Billy’s dental procedure is scheduled for March 2.

February 18, 2020 – Billy continues to recover nicely from his neutering a week ago. His incision looks perfectly healed.  He is doing his business outside, no accidents in the house. His is back to being more energetic and playing with his toys, stealing toys from the resident pugs and reluctant to share. With the warmer weather, he has really enjoyed getting out for a walk. Billy is a calm pug but can be quite animated.
He will be very happy when that cone comes off.
He will be going for his Dental March 2nd, when he is completely healed. Billy loves attention and can’t get enough of cuddling and belly rubs. He is such a lovable boy.

February 17, 2020 – Billy is recovering nicely from his neutering surgery yesterday. He had a peaceful Long sleep last night full of snores and cuddles . He ate well today , and did his business outside finally later this afternoon. His incision looks good and also his face where he has a couple stitches from his skin tag removal. He Is being a good boy and staying relaxed and just chilling on the couch as everything starts to heal.  Billy is getting his teeth cleaned on March 2.

February 12, 2020 – Billy was neutered yesterday and he went back to his foster home at night.  He had 2 skin tags removed at the same time.  He is wearing a cone and he is not impressed by that.  Billy is going back to the vet in about 3 weeks to get his teeth cleaned.  He is the sweetest and most loyal boy always following his people.

February 4, 2020 – Billy is a big lovable teddy bear . He has settled in very well and gets along with the resident pugs. If he gets a toy, he doesn’t like to share but gives his warning with a wagging tail. He has occasionally chased the resident cat, but in cahoots with one of the resident Pugs .
Billy does have loss of hearing, confirmed by his visit to the vet this week and, was also treated for an ear infection.  He is now housetrained, no accidents in the house this week. He does his business outside when we get up in the morning, and again around late afternoon. He is a little slow to do his business, and I always go outside with him, he eventually gets around to it. Patience and positive reinforcement has really worked well. Billy is a quiet, well behaved pug, but can be quite vocal and excited when I come home. He also gets quite excited if he sees the leash and harness and knows a walk is in the plans. Billy walks great on the leash, doesn’t pull, so walking Billy is very enjoyable for both of us.
He is getting along great with the resident pugs, but does prefer  the company of a human being.
Loves to be as close to me as possible, on the couch, cuddled in bed & bathroom.
If I’m in the kitchen, or doing anything, he sits quietly watching until I’m finished and can give him a pet .
He just wants to be loved and given attention, but sometimes, can be a bit pushy and will on occasion try to push one of the resident pug away from me if they’re too close. This hasn’t been a huge problem , we are working on it, and he does it without aggression

January 28, 2020 – Billy has hearing loss and doesn’t like when we touch his ears although they look pretty good.  If we bend down and clap our hands together, he will come to you.
Billy can get vocal sometimes and try to scratch at us to get petted. We’ve been showing him a flat palm to get him to understand off .
The resident pugs are a little timid, totally backs off where Billy is … Billy has been a little too pushy for some attention.  He is a good boy on the leash and does not pull. He is not much interested in his surroundings just walking. In the yard, he is also not much interested, mostly stands and watches me. Doesn’t interact with the resident pugs or run around.  This sweet boy is pretty well behaved , wants a lot of attention.  W shall see how he makes out as he gets more settled, maybe in his forever home, he could be the main squeeze!  Billy is getting neutered on February 11.

January 21, 2020 – Billy has come out of his shell and is a very well tempered pug who enjoys visits when you have friends over. He’s not a jumper , greets them and likes the attention. Billy loves to cuddle on the couch and while you’re watching a movie. He also likes to chase you and fetch his moose during play time.
Billy can  get quite vocal. He’s good eater and likes to talk to you as you get his food ready which can get a bit loud. He’s not bad at settling down but is pretty excited even when you come home from work. He’s a very cute little guy who means well. He’s just starting to get the command “sit” and we’ll continue to work on it.  We are also working on Billy’s housetraining.  He was used to go on pee pads and we are working on making him understand the concept of doing his business outside.  Billy is getting neutered and will have his teeth cleaned on February 11.

January 16, 2020 – Billy has settled in nicely. He’s an energetic little guy and loves to play with his toys. He especially loves to play fetch with his moose toy or have you run holding it while he chases you.  Billy did very well greeting the children next door and certainly soaked in the attention. Billy is not shy when it comes to children or strangers. When out walking he doesn’t chase cars or people. He’s very well behaved. He is quite excitable when you bring out the leash and starts to chirp to try to let you know he’s happy. He does the same sometimes when you cuddle on the couch to watch a movie but settled quite quickly. He’s a good eater and rarely misses his pee pad. I’ve had some success with him doing his business outdoors but you have to watch him start to circle and then put him out, he will usually go. Billy’s finished his antibiotics and there is no sign of blood or discomfort.  He is getting his teeth cleaned on January 21.

January 6, 2020 –  Billy has a Urinary Tract Infection. He has been put on antibiotics for 10 days. The vet mentioned that he has an enlarged prostate and that might be the cause of the crystals in his urine.  Once he gets neutered, that might solve this problem. He’s pee pad trained and will go outside if you notice him spinning which he’s done on several occasions. I don’t think it’ll take too much to train him with a bit of effort. Billy is very good at taking his antibiotics in the Urinary SO wet food. Billy is a very playful 6 year old pug and instantly took to the green rope toy and Mr. Moose.  He took a bit to settle down for his first night but eventually went into the open kennel and slept there all night. First thing in the morning, he was very excitable and chirps to show he’s happy to see you.  He also loves to cuddle in the couch. Billy is very easy to love.

January 4, 2020 – Billy was surrendered to UMWPR this afternoon.  He is a 6 year old boy and he is not neutered.  Billy is going to the groomer this afternoon for a nice warm bath and brush.  Billy is going to the vet this afternoon as he has blood in his urine.  Stay tuned for more on this beautiful boy.

JADA

Age: 6 1/2 years old
Adoption Fees: $400

August 24, 2020 – Jada is gone to her forever home today.

July 22, 2020 – Jada has a solid routine down, so no issues with house training and is always happy at mealtime. With the hot weather, we haven’t been as active outdoors. When inside, she is generally pretty lazy. She does get up to mischief on the rare occasion and was on the lookout for snacks the other day (She found a potato and managed to nibble 1/3-1/2 of it before we took it away. Luckily there were no ill effects).  She continues to be an even tempered, patient girl who is looking forward to finding her forever home. Her weight seems to be holding at about 31 lbs.

July 9, 2020 – Jada is weighing in at about 31 lb. She is looking very good these days. She continues to love lounging in the sun, having zoomies in the yard, and going for walks.  She would take herself out on an adventure if the backyard was not secure/she wasn’t supervised.

She recently met a cat and was definitely interested in the chase, so has a bit of prey drive.  She may be best in a no cats.
Jada has been out on a few longer car rides with us and is great in the car. She is very adaptable – lazy in the house, but ready for adventures too.
June 8, 2020 – Jada is enjoying to cooler days.  This sweet girl enjoy going for walks and meeting new people.  Jada will shortly be available for adoption.  Jada is a raw food diet and she is doing very well on it.  We will be looking for adopters who will be ready to maintain Jada’s weight and be strict in her food intake.
May 25, 2020 – Miss Jada is down to 31.25 lbs now, that is about 7lbs lighter than when she came in almost 5 months ago.  She is really enjoying the warmer weather. She loves snoozing in the sun and having zoomies in the backyard (followed by cuddles on the couch). Her main goal is still to be with her people and to be as cozy as possible 🙂

April 27, 2020 – Jada is a great mix of lazy cuddle bug and active. She loves being near her people and cuddling on the couch.  She is always on the lookout for cozy spot to relax!  She will perk up and do a little dance when the harness and leash come out though.  She enjoys going for walks around the neighbourhood.  She is friendly with strangers and other dogs.  She may bark when she sees a dog, but with no ill intent. Her recall is decent, but she might take off if there was something exciting that caught her attention. She is very well behaved in the car.  She is currently living with two seniors dogs who are quite low key. She gets along well with them and has never been dominant. She is generally sweet and quiet natured. She enjoys playing with toys.  She will play with stuffies and chew on a nylabone.
Jada has been on a weight loss journey and has been doing great.  She is down to 32lb and we have moved from a large to a medium harness. She has a good appetite and will eat her food fairly quickly, but does not inhale her food.  We have started adding pumpkin which slows her eating and helps her digestion. She is 100% housetrained.
At night she will sleep on a blanket/bed beside our bed or crash on the couch downstairs.  She would LOVE to sleep in our bed, but we decided there was not enough room (much to her disappointment).
She is good when left alone at home for a few hours – she will mainly just sleep.  If there are kleenex and other goodies in the garbage, she might help herself to a snack.  We learned this when we left the bathroom open one day. But if doors are shut or it is out of reach, there is no problem.  The following are good to know for potential adopters:

She can snore loudly sometimes!!
When she is in a new environment, Jada can be sensitive to sounds and is more prone to barking.  With a bit of time to settle, this reduces significantly.  She does occasionally still bark a time or two at people/dogs going by our front window or if she hears other dogs when out in the yard.  She does not bark continuously, and responds to verbal redirection.

April 7, 2020 – Jada continues to do well on her weight loss journey. She is now 32.5 lb and her harness is getting loose!  She is loving the nicer weather. She loves lying in the sun in our backyard and going for walks. She wasn’t such a huge fan of getting her nails trimmed.  She definitely has that pug part of her that would love to avoid the nail cutters! She continues to be a calm, cuddly and loving guest that is endlessly patient with our toddler.  She does bark at times out the window or in the backyard, but is easily redirected and is not incessant with it.

March 17, 2020 – We were very lucky to have had the chance to foster Jada for the week. What a nice calm, and cuddly dog. She did have one accident the day she arrived but we were expecting that as it was a new house with new smells. Jada really enjoyed hanging around with the other pugs and following them around inside and outside.  She loves her walks and walks very well on the leash. She adjusted well to our routine for example, eating times and potty breaks. The second she see her harness and leash her little tail is wagging with excitement.

Jada loved searching in the toy box for the toy that would suit her she loves chews and also stuffies.  When we went out of the house for few hours, we left her loose and she was very well behaved, She was great around the baby, but she did however try to chase the cat and would bark at him if he was in sight. Jada listens well and is very well behaved, She caught on quickly to our house rules. She does like to let the squirrels outside know that she watching by giving them a bark.

March 3, 2020 – Jada continues to fit right in here. She is such an easygoing and friendly girl. We continue to work on her weight loss journey. She is looking forward to nicer weather for longer walks. She is such a cuddle bug and has been a great companion while I was feeling under the weather. Overall, she has been the easiest foster we’ve ever had and will be an amazing addition in her forever home.  P.S. she is so good, it is hard to know what to write sometimes.

February 17, 2020 – Jada is such a loving girl that has fit in so well in her foster home.  Last weekend she had a blast cuddling with everyone at the Winter Paw thaw. Cuddling is her favourite thing to do! We have found that  she is not possessive with food or toys.  She has been loving her raw food. We continue to have no issues with housetraining.   Overall she is a joy to have around.

February 4, 2020 – Jada needs to lose some weight, so we are monitoring her food and making sure she gets more exercise. She has been put on raw food. Jada is a lucky girl and had a beautiful sweater made just for her. She looks stunning in her foam green sweater. She is currently showing off!

January 28, 2020 – Jada had her teeth cleaned today.  She had 6 teeth missing and got 10 extracted.  Jada is 36.5lbs but her ideal weight should be around 28lbs.  We are feeding her 1/2 cup twice with NO treats.  Her forever home will have to continue working on Jada’s weight loss to ensure she reach a healthy weight which will be great for her joints/articulation and her general health.

January 23, 2020 – Jada is quite crafty at finding ways to get out of her sweater, and she will occasionally bark on walks (hearing children or another dog in the distance).  She likes frolicking in the snow! I would not want her to be off leash, as she would be an adventure/explorer.

January 21, 2020 – Jada has been doing well.  We have been taking it easy with some of the cold weather – Jada loves her people/cuddle time. She also has a favorite Nylabone.  She has some deeper folds on her face that require regular care, but otherwise is a low maintenance dog.  She will have her teeth cleaned January 28.

January 10, 2020 – Jada is settling in well. She is practically perfect in every way! She loves to cuddle, play with toys, go for short walks, and has such a happy personality.  Her only minor habit is occasionally barking at things out the window. She went to the vet today to get a check up.  Jada was definitely a bit anxious in the waiting room, but was very good for the vet.  She weighs 36.7lbs currently and the vet would like her to lose some weight.  She will also likely need a couple teeth removed, but is otherwise healthy.

January 6, 2020 – Jada arrived 2 days ago and right away you could tell she has the sweetest personality! She took the busy day in stride even though it had to be stressful.  After being picked up, she stopped at Completely Mutts for some a nice bath/grooming.
Since arriving, Jada has been doing her business outside and will give a bark to let you know she needs to go out. She pulls mildly on the leash outside, but is very good and keen to explore. She was also good in the car.  She liked zipping around the yard, but would look for an escape route if the fencing is not secure.  She has been good with the resident dogs and an absolute ANGEL with my toddler.  She clearly loves to be with people and enjoys cuddling on the couch.  She would prefer people who are home most of the time.  Jada is going to the vet this Thursday for a complete check up.

January 4, 2020 – Jada was surrendered to UMWPR this afternoon.  Jada is a pug/french bulldog and she is about 38lbs.  She will be going to the vet this week for a complete check up.  Stay tuned for more on Jada as we get to know her better.

MERKLEY

Age: 3
Adoption Fees: $500

December 18, 2019 – Merkley has been adopted by his foster mom, he is now living a happy with a pug sister and a boston sister.

December 16, 2019 – Merkley is so happy to be out of his cone collar.  Merkley is so gentle when he plays and loves to play fetch.  He is not interested with playing tug of war with the other dogs, wants to play fetch and tug of war with just me.
He is my shadow and my cuddle buddy.
He comes when he’s called; he is such a good boy, his accidents in the house are far and few between now.  Merkley’s nose fold looks much better after using the medicated wipes.  Merkley is a gem, he’s a pretty laid back boy, except on a walk; he likes to pull …He likes to play but he also likes his cuddle, calm time.

December 9, 2019 – Merkley is doing good, 4 days post surgery. The biggest problem is getting him to stay quiet. Stuck to his foster mom constantly and is not just content to be on her lap or next to her, he has to be in her arms like a baby or around her neck He is the most loving pug.
He’s marked a few times since surgery and that will get better with time.
Merkley has settled in so well, he likes the resident pugs but is more attached to his foster mom and has to keep an eye on her always to see what she’s doing so he can follow.
Merkley is just the loveliest little guy and so darn cute !!

December 5, 2019 – Merkley was neutered today and the surgery went very well.  He is now back to his foster family for a smooth recovery.

December 3, 2019 – What to say about Merkley ! Oh my goodness , if ever there was a perfect Pug , he is the poster boy ! Not only is he stunning to look at , he is such a good boy ! He comes when called, does his business outside. He keeps his belly band in the house which I’m sure won’t be necessary after his surgery on Thursday. He loves to play with his toys , especially his Kong. We will play fetch, he brings it back every time ….  He loves to play , loves to run around the yard at high speed, followed by the resident pug who is quick but not as fast as Merkley. Even in the yard if I call him, he comes running !
We had so much fun in the snow last night, as I shovelled, the resident pug and Merkley raced around and around … What a breath of fresh air to watch them !
He is a bit of a puller on a walk and you need a good grip on his leash !  If I move an inch, Merkley is right there. From a sound sleep, he knows if I am moving and is right behind me in seconds.  In bed, he will cuddle as close as he can get, will tuck his head under my chin if he can.
He is great with the resident dogs and they will all pile up together, reposition, and never any aggression.
He is not a real fast eater, so I give him his food in a different area.
Such a healthy, happy, loving, smart boy.  He will come up to me lean into my arms and just cuddle like a baby.  Merkley is getting neutered on December 5.

November 29, 2019 – Merkley went to the vet last night and was brought up to date in his vaccination.
He was very thirsty when he got to his foster home,  he loves the yard and peed on everything he could. Didn’t eat a whole lot of dinner which is understandable … was a bit restless through the night; we got up a few times and he went out to pee. For sleeping he stuck to me like glue, he is just a love bug.  Merkley is still inspecting his environment , likes the resident dogs and so far, has ignored the cat. What a stunning boy he is and very active, loves t to race in the backyard. Trying to put a belly band on him is like dressing a snake.

November 28, 2019 – Merkley came to us yesterday.  Surrendered by his owner who didn’t have time for him.  Merkley is born on November 8, 2016 so he just turned 3.  He went to the vet last night for a complete check up and te be brought up to date in his vaccination.  Merkley is getting neutered on December 5.  Stay tuned for more on this very active little marker.
