PAISLEY

Age: 11 years old
Adoption Fees: $300

December 3, 2022 – Paisley & Rocky are gone to their forever home…(:

November 15, 2022 – Rocky and Paisley are doing very well.  Another weekend spent at the cottage enjoying the great outdoors and snooze in front of the woodstove when we come inside. Rocky is now coming into my office with his toy in his mouth when he wants a little playtime during the day.  Paisley is content to just watch him chase the toys.  Rocky loves the cooler weather and really enjoyed the snow this morning but Paisley is not a fan! She finds it a bit cold so we dress her up in a little coat so she is warm and comfy on the walks.  Both are getting microchipped this week.

November 2, 2022 – Both Rocky and Paisley are really enjoying the fall season. They are so energetic on their walks and really love running through the leaves and sniffing every pile of leaves they walk by. Paisley has recovered very well from her spay surgery and is back to her energetic self. Incision is totally healed.

Rocky is down to 29 lbs now  He came down with a little gastro bug but the antibiotics have kicked in and his bowel movements have returned to normal.  These 2 cuties are ready to be adopted.

September 26, 2022 – Paisley is doing very well.  Her foster mom found in a closet a winter coat for her and it fits perfectly! Also happy to report her salivary gland is back to normal . all swelling gone.  Still working on their manners during  city walks but we are definitely seeing signs of improvement.  All in all happy puppers!

September 8, 2022 – Paisley is recovering well from her dental procedure. She had 4 adult teeth and three baby teeth (which had never fallen out) removed. She is enjoying the special treat of chicken stew which will not cause any issues with the sutures in her mouth. Also happy to report she’s down to 10.3 kg and continues to enjoy her longer walks.

August 22, 2022 – Back at the cottage for another week of vacation. Foster Mom decided it might be best for her to keep them company in the back seat for the long drive to the cottage and they were super travellers! Even napped for a while.

Although they have adapted well to condo life it’s obvious Rocky and Paisley prefer the quiet lifestyle at the cottage.
Fresh air, naps outside, and plenty of exercise chasing the resident chipmunk around the deck
Rocky’s mobility continues to improve…he can now go up a short flight of stairs and will break out in the occasional run if he spots the chipmunk at the bird feeder. Walking distance improving.
Paisley is quite energetic and always excited when it’s time for a walk. Foster mom has taken her out a couple of times by herself and she can easily walk for 2 km.
Seeing more of their personalities now and they have started playing with toys . They need supervision at meal time as Rocky will try to nudge his way into Paisleys bowl if she hasn’t finished. Now know why he’s a little chunky!
Both continue to sleep well through the night and enjoy snuggling up on the sofa with foster mom &dad to watch a movie.
Dental surgeries are booked for September and Paisley is getting spayed on Oct. 4 .
All in all they are settling in really well and we are enjoying their company!

July 30 – Rocky and Paisley truly enjoyed their week at the cottage. Highlights included lounging on the deck, nature walks, and the endless entertainment provided by the local chipmunks raiding the bird feeder.  They met some new friends including a furry one…a few barks to introduce themselves but quickly settled down and all enjoyed each others company.

Rocky and Paisley are very social and love a good snuggle. Paisley will jump up on the sofa if invited. Rocky will ask for a lift up as he can’t jump but manages quite well to get down on his own. He needs a lift going up a flight of stairs which should change with weight reduction.  We are starting to see some personality from both. Paisley in true pug fashion likes to follow around her humans while Rocky is a little more autonomous and will nap on his own in a different room.  Paisley likes to mother Rocky. She will lick his ears and on the rare occasion will hump him to show him she’s the boss. Rocky has no problem with it and will muscle her out of the way to be first out the door for a walk.  Both are settling in to a feeding schedule of twice a day. Rocky has already dropped a couple of pounds and has more energy to keep up with Paisley on our walks. We continue to work on social skills during the walks. Both are sleeping well through the night and no accidents.

June 18, 2022 – Rocky and Paisley are settling in very well to condo life.  Both enjoy their rides on the elevator to go outside for a walk. Paisley has great energy for walking and even though Rocky is carrying quite a bit of extra weight he is surprisingly light on his feet and even ran a bit to catch up to his sister. Both had no issues doing their business on the walks and we also noticed each one asking for the door to go out.

These two sweetie pies are very affectionate and really enjoy spending time with foster mom and foster dad getting belly rubs. Paisley in particular has attached herself to foster mom and follows her everywhere.

They respond to the sit command, respond when called by their names, and perk up their ears when you talk to them.  Both enjoyed a good bath and brushing and ate their dinner.

Paisley slept through the night on the dog bed without issue. Rocky also had a good night for the most part except a one time wander where he had a little pee in the kitchen.  Rocky and Paisley would like to give special thanks to Ellen from www.uptownpetgrooming.com who opened her shop during her vacation for a much needed emergency nail trim today at no charge! Walks will be way more fun now

July 16, 2022 – Paisley came into rescue on July 16. She has been together with her brother Rocky all of her life and is 10.5 years old. We will get them both vetted the first week of August. Paisley will need to be spayed. They will have blood work and vaccines.  More to come as we get to know this sweet girl.

MILO

June 29, 2022 – Milo was surrendered by his owner.  He is a pug x and he is born on April 22, 2021.  Milo is neutered and up to date in his vaccination.

July 1, 2022 – Angels do exist and Milo is already gone to his forever home where he will share his life with a playful female pug x.

BEE

Age: DOB April 22, 2022

November 7, 2022 – Bob & Bee have been adopted by their foster mom.

October 31, 2022 – Bee and Bob are getting sterilized this week.  They are getting adopted by their long term foster mum.

October 3, 2022 – Puppies had a great week. Bee had a visit to the Cedarview outdoor farmers market. She loves to jump on anything and everything possible.  Bob played hide and seek and was found in the kitchen pantry! Bob is learning how to go down two steps and go up and down the outdoor ramp before winter. They are working on sitting for 10 seconds and coming when prompted. They really enjoyed their playdate with brother Frankie.

September 7, 2022 – Ms. Bee is busy as ever and sometimes prefers to be the boss Bee! She rarely stops moving and is super inquisitive, and often instigates to play or chase. Bee is now 9lbs.

August 22, 2022 – Bee was happy to welcome her brother Bob back from his bilateral enucleation.  She was jumping and dancing when she saw him.

August 5, 2022
– Bee’s right eye was removed as it ruptured and was past the point of saving.  Luckily, the ulcer in her left eye healed and she has some vision in that eye.
Bob’s surgery consisted of a corneal graft on each eye.  After a very intense schedule of eye drops and care by two very special and caring vet technicians, Bob’s left eye is healed.  Bob is still receiving eye care on his right eye as it is healing slower.  Bob has some peripheral vision with hopes that additional healing will improve his vision overall. Bob has another recheck in a couple of weeks.
Bob and Bee have recently had their second set of vaccinations.  Both are progressing well and are an appropriate weight for their age.  Bob and Bee were given a dewormer the day after their vaccines.  Bob and Bee are smart and sassy at the same time.  They both know the sit and stay command.  Bee has perfected going up a small fight of stairs but is hesitant to come down them on her own.  Bob on the other hand hasn’t braved the stairs yet.
The puppies are full of energy and require lots of play time to develop their muscles and skills.  Bob has mastered finding the waterfall dish to drink out of.  He relies on his hearing to find his sister Bee as well.  He does run into stuff but under a watchful eye we help him avoid causing any further damage to his eyes.
When they have exhausted themselves from playing with toys, chewing on bully sticks or playing with each other they do enjoy a nice long nap.  They are currently sleeping in separate crates during the day and overnight to protect their eyes.  They sleep through the night and are not messing in their crates. There is still the odd accident in the house but when outside they understand “do your business”, of course followed by lots and lots of praise.  Bob and Bee are bonded and will be adopted together.  We will be very selective in choosing the home that Bob and Bee spend the rest of their lives in. Their home will need to be pug proofed.  Stairs will need to be blocked to prevent these puppies from falling down stairs with their poor eyesight.  Extra care will need to be taken inside and outside of the home to ensure the risk to their eyes is minimized.

July 12, 2022 – Bob & Bee are doing extremelly well, they eat and play like all normal puppies should.  They will soon be able to get their cone collar off.

July 1, 2022 – Bob and Bee had a following up appointment with their eye specialist yesterday morning and she was very pleased with what she seen during the exam. Bee will recovery quicker that Bob, but Bob is a being a little trooper and is handling his recovery very well at this point. They are both on some relaxants to “try” and keep them calm along with some pain management meds and eye drops, lots of eye drops! This sweet pair will require eye drops for the remainder of their lives. Their eyes will be reexamined this coming Monday to ensure that the healing process in coming along as it should. Bob and Bee are NOT AVAILABLE for adoption anytime soon. They will not leave the rescue until Bob has been neutered and Bee has been spayed.  Thank you so much to those that have donated to their medical fund. If you are interested in donating you can send an etransfer to undermywingpugrescue@gmail.com ($25 gets you a tax receipt, please include your address in the notes section) or via CanadaHelps, who will issue you a tax receipt on our behalf.

June 30, 2022 *****************UPDATE: Bob and Bee had their surgery today. They are awake and recovering well. Bob had a graft in each eye and wee Bee unfortunately had to have her right eye removed. Good news for Bee is she didn’t require surgery on her left eye as the ulcer has healed. Tomorrow we will provide a more detailed update after their follow up exam in the morning! Thank you all for keeping this sweet pair in your thoughts and prayers!

June 28, 2022 – Bob & Bee arrived yesterday.  They both are born with eye problems, corneal ulcers.  They have seen an ophtalmologist this afternoon and both have surgery schedule for tomorrow.  More to come after the surgeries.  Bob & Bee are sibblings and they are born on April 22, 2022.

BOB

Age: DOB April 22, 2022

November 7, 2022 – Bob & Bee have been adopted by their foster mom.
October 31, 2022 – Bob is getting neutered this week.  He and his sister Bee are getting adopted by their long term foster mum.  Both are thriving and are still very bonded.
August 22, 2022 – Bob and Bee are a one of kind duo who just so happen to share one eye between the two of them now. Bob is 4 days post op bilateral enucleation and is recovering very well. These two puppies are the bravest, easily adaptable and opposite personality puppies. The only thing Bee seems to fear so far is not knowing what’s going on 24/7. Despite only have 1 eye, she is very observative and watches everyone and everything (including TV). Bob, in general, is more relaxed and loves to snuggle. He is already comfortable doing 2 steps of stairs on his own (with some guidance) and knows where his water dish is from memory. Bob seems to really enjoy sleeping on his back and loves having his tummy rubbed. They entertain each other all day and will snuggle next to or on top of each other when it comes to nap time. From the second they wake up, Bee is looking for something to do for the entire day but recently it never seems to fail that once it is around 8:30pm, she is maxed out of energy and could sleep through anything. They both love everyone and do the cutest “zoomies” when outside and playing with their current big stepbrother Zeus (yellow lab). They are perfect angels overnight and will sleep through the night in their own crates at this time. Both have made many trips to the ophthalmologist so far and have adjusted very well to car rides and busier environments. Currently, they both know how to sit, and we are working on how to sit and stay. Once outside, they both go to the washroom right away, although sometimes Bee must run around for a bit from pure excitement before going.  They are still currently being house trained with the occasional accident in the house but overall are doing a great job. Bee is more advanced when it comes to walks. They both are accustomed to harnesses and are learning how to go on a walk. It is a bit more of a challenge for Bob at the moment but given how fast he has adjusted to everything so far, we are hopeful he will grasp the concept soon enough. These two cuties rely on each other for entertainment, support and comfort.

June 20, 2022 – Zoey arrived in Ottawa yesterday, all the way from Owen Sound.  She was surrendered to a vet clinic who contacted us to see if we could take her.  Zoey came with Cooper and they area very bonded together.  Zoey and Cooper already found their forever home.

COOPER

Age: 4
Adoption Fees: $500

June 27, 2022 – Cooper and Zoey are gone to their forever home together.  Long life to these 2 beautiful lambs.

June 20, 2022 – Copper arrived yesterday from Owen Sound.  He was surrendered to a vet clinic who called us to see if we could take him.  Cooper is 4 years old and he is neutered.  He is very bonded to Zoey, the female pug who came with him.  Cooper is going to the vet this Wednesday for a complete check up.  Cooper along with Zoey have already found their forever home.

GUNNER

Age: 2
Adoption Fees: $750

June 4, 2022 – Gunner is gone to his forever family.  He will share his life with a 2 year old male pug and 2 young respectful kids.  Happy life sweet Gunner !!
May 18, 2022 – The time has come for Gunner to find his forever home.  This little darling will be a little shy with you at first, but give him a couple of days to get his bearings and wait for his sweet and silly personality to come out.  Gunner will adapt quickly, especially with one or more young fur siblings, he is a very smart boy and would LOVE to get some play time and wrestling with another young energetic dog.
Gunner knows how to “sit”, “stay” & “gentle”.
Like all pugs, Gunner does not like to let his people out of his sight. He will do well crated if left alone, or overnight although his foster mom lets him sleep in the big bed on the weekends and Gunner LOOOOVES this most of all.
He is a happy boy from morning to night and enjoys his three walks a day, sometimes too much and has shown interest in chasing rabbits, squirrels and even cars!  Gunner knows when we walk with the resident pug, we have to be mindful, and understands “slow down”.  Gunner needs a fenced back yard, he has a lot of pent up zoomies to get out!  This guy should never be let off leash until he is older and more responsible.  We don’t call him Gunner the runner for nothing!  Gunner is eating raw food and we has been since he is a puppy so we would like to find a family commited to feeding raw food as he is doing very well on it.  Despite being so energetic, Gunner is also a big cuddler, but needs to work on his manners sometimes and wait to be invited on someone’s lap.  Overall, Gunner is a goofy little love bug and we will be sad to see him go.

May 3, 2022
– Gunner’s veterinary exam went well.  Gunner had one dose of Strongid last Saturday, his next dose is due today.  He has started Advantix yesterday.  He is just the sweetest boy, we love having him.  Gunner has become very comfortable with us and continues to be a joy!  His favorite thing to do is chew/fetch his toys.  Gunner will be going shopping for some sturdier toys; we had to say goodbye to his hedgehog after he chewed a hole in the fabric.  Gunner has come a long way in the short period of time we have known him.  Initially, he refused to go down the stairs at the vet clinic but now, no problem.  Gunner is still timid with strangers, but has started to come out of his shell more and more.  His tail is usually almost always wagging.  Gunner stays in his crate overnight without any issues.  He is always happy to see his foster mom in the morning and excited to get outside for his walk.  Gunner is still working on his manners.  He is extremely food motivated and learns quickly. The only thing Gunner does not seem to like is…car rides.  He will runs to the door when he knows his foster mom is leaving for work and jumps in the back seat willingly but cries a bit after the car starts moving.  Gunner continues to try to make friends with the resident pug and seems genuinely happy when we have encountered other dogs on our walks.  This happy little boy would love to have some younger fur brother or sister to cuddle and play with.  Despite Gunner’s obvious charms, he has not been able to persuade the resident pug to do either, however, he did share a brief snuggle with the resident shih tzu.  Gunner is just the sweetest little pug overall and would be a great addition to any active family.

April 20, 2022 – We are enjoying getting to know Little Gunner.  He is a feisty Boy and super smart!  After only one day of accidents he started to let us know when he needed to go out by circling and barking and heading to the door. Gunner has a lot of energy.  Even after three walks a day he could still play for hours.  He LOVES to play fetch with his stuffies and although the resident Pug seems interested in joining, this has not happened yet despite Gunner’s encouragement.  Gunner seems very comfortable with the humans in his foster home but a little leary of strangers.  He has been going to work with his foster mom at the vet clinic all week so far and doing great.  Gunner is not a fan of the car but has managed the short daily car ride very well.  We are working on Gunner’s manners and behavior in the house.  This is pretty easy, he is already used to the schedule here and oh yeah did I mention he is super smart? After a disagreement regarding sleep time vs play time, Gunner went back to sleeping in his crate with no issue. If he doesn’t like something (car, crate, humans shutting the bathroom door) he tends to be a bit vocal at first, but stops quickly. Gunner is easy to love and easy to please.  He would do well with younger dogs and a big fenced backyard, we have started calling him Gunner the Runner those long legs make him the fastest pug.  Gunner will be seen by the vet soon, and continues to be a joy to look after.

April 16, 2022 – Gunner came in yesterday.  He is born on February 29, 2022 so he is just over 2 years old.  Gunner is as easy going as he is adorable!  He has gone from being the only dog to sharing space with two others with little incident.  He ate his dinner and breakfast with true pug enthusiasm, walked like a pro on his leash and spent the night in the big bed with his foster mom and the resident pug.  Gunner is very curious about the other dogs, and has tried to initiate play with both of them.  His energy level would be well suited with younger dogs.  Gunner has had a couple of accidents in the house while adjusting.  Gunner goes into his crate willingly, without protest.  For such a huge change in his life, Gunner has taken everything in stride.  This little charmer will steal your heart!  Gunner will go to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up, blood work and to get microchipped.  He is neutered and up to date in his vaccination until mid July 2022. Stay tuned for more on this sweet boy as we get to know him better.

ASIA

Age: 6 1/2 years old
Adoption Fees: $600

March 25, 2022 – Asia is gone to her forever home.

March 18, 2022 – Asia is recovering from her dental that took place last week.  She lost 10 teeth during the procedure and had the rest scaled and polished.  She has a couple more days of softened food and is most disappointed she can’t shake and chew her stuffy toys.  Asia is fully vetted now and is now ready for her forever home.  Asia will need to be on Urinary SO kibbles & soft food for the remainder of her life as a result of the huge bladder stone she had removed in her first surgery.   The other lifetime medical requirement will be a prescription of Propalin.  She currently requires this syrup 3 times per day to control her leaky bladder she developed after her spaying surgery.  Otherwise, Asia is an easy going girl.  Loves to sleep under the covers on the cooler nights and no issue letting you know what she wants. She likes her bed in the morning and is in no rush to get out of bed.

February 14, 2022 – Asia has fully recovered from her spaying surgery.  She developed a complication which caused her to leak urine. She was tested to ensure no UTI was present, the results came back clear.  The vet believes the leaking issue was a result of the bladder (huge stone removed 6 weeks prior) being manipulated during her spay surgery.  The course of treatment has been stilbestrol for 5 days and followed by 1 tablet a week for 5 weeks.  The vet feels Asia will recover fully without the need for further treatment.  After 5 days of the medication, there has been no more leakage. Asia was microchipped during her spay and will have her vaccines updated tomorrow.  The last procedure for Asia will be a dental and then she will be ready for her forever home!  Asia has a great spirit!  She enjoys a good snuggle and likes to be close.  She can be a little barky at times but knows that behavior will not be tolerated when told to stop. She has been enjoying the milder weather and likes to sniff the backyard and enjoying the fresh air.  Asia has been learning that nail trims are not the end of the world and is behaving better each week as they are trimmed. Asia loves her stuffy toys and like to have a game of fetch with them.  In true pug style, her absolute favourite things are treats, naps and snuggles!

January 24, 2022 – Asia is doing very well.  The results are in from her cystotomy, Asia’s bladder stone was of struvite composition.  This means that she will need prescription diet Urinary SO to prevent future occurrences for the remainder of her life.  Asia is having her spay surgery this Friday, January 28.  Here is hoping for a complication free surgery and speedy recovery.  In typical pug style Asia is far from being a fan of the cold weather that we have been experiencing.  Thankfully, she listens well and obeys the “go do your business” command and heads straight to the house once the mission is accomplished.  Asia is completely housetrained and has great holding capabilities. Asia is becoming more accustom to noises around the house and is not running to hide but is staying a safe distance away and being curious.  This wee girl loves a good snuggle under the blankets and if not under the blankets pressed tight against your body for some comfort. She also snores like a freight train. She absolutely loves to sleep between your legs, under or on top of the covers.   Asia gets along well with her foster siblings but would also do well as an only pug as she loves to be the center of attention.  Please keep Asia in your thoughts this coming Friday.

January 5, 2022 – Asia has completely recovered, complication free from having her large bladder stone removed.  There is no doubt she is feeling so much better without the 1” x 2” stone causing pressure and irritation to her bladder. She is already showing an improvement in holding her urine.  One of Asia favorite things to do is sleep under the covers in the big bed until she gets to warm and is then happy to come out and tuck herself close to your body.  We discovered that she isn’t a fan of the vacuum and actual had a pee accident on the floor.  We are working on overcoming this fear and continue to expose her to other noises to build her confidence.   Asia has started to entertain herself with stuffy toys, so cute to watch!   We have booked Asia’s dental and spaying surgeries about 6 weeks apart to allow sufficient time to heal from each procedure.  Asia will not be available for adoption until mid-March.  Asia sends pug kisses and thanks you all for your continued support and following her story

December 16, 2021 – Asia is a sweet girl, very easy going and gets along perfect with her pug roommates.  Asia is doing much better with a week of twice daily antibiotics in her system.  She has stopped peeing pus and no longer has blood in her urine.  She does however still require frequent trips out to do her business as her bladder isn’t able to hold much urine.  We are hopeful that after surgery (Dec 20) and the healing process that she can extend her retention frequency.  Asia is adjusting well to Urinary SO kibble but seems to enjoy her evening meal more that her morning one.  We discovered that Asia could do a high five for treats, followed by a sit if not too excited.  She tends to beg at the table while the humans enjoy their meals, but we are working on that.  We have started some short walks, but Asia gets somewhat concerned the further we get away from the house.  We feel that this will get better with time as she overcomes her insecurities and continues to build her confidence.  So far, Asia isn’t showing much interest in playing with toys but when encouraged, she will play for a short period of time.  She has no interest in entertaining herself with a toy at this point.  We went for a longer car ride on the weekend and Asia did well, she had no issue curling up in a dog bed for a nice nap in the sun.  Asia doesn’t seem to be a fan of cats, or at least ones that roam freely in the neighborhood. Asia will have her cystotomy this coming  Monday to remove her large bladder stone.  Please send her positive vibes for a speedy recovery.

December 8, 2021 – Asia was timid and unsure of her new surroundings when she first came into rescue. She had accidents in the first 24 hours but has settled into a good routine and no recent accidents to speak of. Asia does require frequent trips outside to empty her bladder as it is filled by a huge stone. She has had 3 doses of antibiotics and is showing some improvement with bladder control.
Asia has settled in nicely, enjoy naps in a comfy bed. Asia is crate trained and doesn’t make a peep
when inside her crate. She is currently sleeping in an xpen overnight until her bladder issue is resolved.
Again, not a peep once we are settle in for the night. She has a fondness for a treat when she comes back inside from doing her business, performs a little dance and is quiet happy with just a tiny bit. Asia has been placed on a special diet – Urinary SO, to help with her condition; she isn’t crazy about the new food,
but with a little topper of canned Urinary SO, she finds it more palatable.
Asia gets along great with the resident pugs and vice versa. She seems to travel well in a vehicle so far,
but we haven’t tried any great distance. We will start daily walks when she starts feeling better. Asia is a petite wee girl and seems to have sensitive feet to the snow and cold! Yes, she is a pug, bring on the I may freeze drama. Stay tuned for weekly updates as we get to know this girl better and learn more of her personality.

December 7, 2021 – Asia came in last night.  Due to no fault of hers, she was surrendered to us.  Asia is a petite 6 1/2 years girl.  She went to the vet this morning and xrays showed stones in her bladder.  Asia has been put on Clavamox for 14 days – her surgery is scheduled for December 20.  Asia is a nice girl who gets along well with other dogs.  Asia is not spayed but we will take care of that once she has recovered from her stone removal surgery.

CASPER – HOSPICE PUG

Age: 10 1/2 years old (as of Nov 2023)
Adoption Fees: Hospice Pug

February 21, 2024 – Casper has recovered well after his surgery; the scar has healed up beautifully and he is absolutely loving being able to eat a raw diet. He was whoever still leaking quit a bit while he was sleeping and or resting on my lap or anywhere. He really does still like to mark so I have had to get him the adult male wraps for him to wear when I am busy around the house and cannot watch him or sit with him. The vet prescribed Propalin which I have been giving him for about 3 weeks now. The vet would like to keep him on it for 3 months so we are almost through one month of the Propalin and I have started to see a change in the amount of urine that he leaves behind after he has slept; a much smaller spot on the bed where as before it was a huge wet spot the size of a salad plate and if he moved then he would leak again. We are on the right track so I am hoping to still see even more progress over this next month.

Casper’s eyes are beautiful, he is still getting the drop twice a day, I will have to get more soon. After the surgery and all his hardship after the surgery, he is more and more beautiful, his coat is just thriving as is he on the raw diet. I would like to take him back to chiro to get his tight back muscles loosened up again as his humped back is really showing again which I am not surprised after everything he has endured over the last 5 months.

January 31, 2024 – Casper has recovered very well from the surgery he had in December 2023.  The mass appeared to be malignant so we will keep a close eye on this sweet boy.  Casper has started taking Propalin as he is still leaking a bit, we will reassess him in a few months to see how things are.

December 13 2023 – Casper had a mass removed from his bladder on December 6.  He had to spend a few night at Capital City Specialty & Emergency Clinic.  He went back to his foster home and has started eating by himself.  Dr. Julius Liptak did also remove a portion of the bladder to try to prevent the mass to grow back.  Results of the biopsy should be in soon.

June 29, 2023 – We have been working really hard over the last month and a half to get Casper’s allergy issue under control. We started with 5 days of Safeguard to cover for a parasite that can luve in the urinary tract and worsen symptoms. In the meantime, we were weaning him off of prednisone before starting him on Apoquel. Once started the Apoquel, it was a bit of a waiting game to see if he could tolorate this medication since he can be very sensitive to some. He seems to be tolorating it fine as far as his tummy goes but I do however still see some blood in his urine. this could be an allergy flare up or he might have gotten into something so time will tell but for now he seems to be ok. When we go for our walks, his urine seems fine until the last legs of the walk when bright blood appears. We are upping the dose of Apoquel to 2 tablets a day for 2 weeks to see if that calms down the flare up. After this we will give him a half tablet 2 times a day and see where we end up. The object is to mange his syptoms and keep his bladder calm and happy instead of trying to shrink his little lump in his bladder. He does still leak a bit while he is sleeping and he does still mark in the house but not as often as when Dexter first cam into the house and was full of hormones. He is very happy and healthy otherwise and full of energy and love, he is the best!

May 2, 2023 – King Casper is doing quite well this week. After a bit of scare when his cyst, that was located on his side around his right back leg, burst, I walked him into the vet and they gave us an appointment that day. They took him to the back and dug out the cyst so it looked pretty brutal all red and gooey, open to the air but he was not to bothered by it at all. I stayed home the next day and every hour of so put a warm compress on it and massaged the area to work out what was remaining inside. This was a good plan because the King is a very quick healer so by the second day it was all closed up, I feel really good about spending the day with him while we could do the most.

The vet also checked his ears and his very stubborn ear infection had left him, finally!! We also dropped off an updated urine sample and it seems while there is no visible blood in his urine (to the naked eye) he still has blood but due to his condition not because he has a urinary infection. She has decided that obviously him being on the prednisone is not stopping this from happening and the side effects he shows from the prednisone far out way keeping him on it so we are finally going to get the man off this so he can be on something that will still keep his allergy at bay but without all the side effects and much better for him long term. This is all good news and if you didn’t know, you would never think anything was wrong with him as he is very beautiful, soft and fluffy and just a gorgeous pug.

August 5, 2022 – Oh the wee Casper, he is so good and loveable and such a wonderful boy. He is so smart! I have a screened in porch and it was not long before he learned to much open the door to let himself back inside. Once that was accomplished he wanted to learn to pull the door open himself so I put a small handle at the bottom of the screen door for him. He barked at it for a day then after about the 3rd day he figured out how to pull the door open, self sufficient little man. While I am home the back door is always open as long as it is not 100 degrees outside so he can come and go as he pleases, he really enjoys that. He still has an accident during the night but not all the time maybe once every 2 weeks. He can’t stand when Jaxon wants something so he takes matters into his own hands and climbs up on my lap and chest and says all kinds of things to me, he has many languages. He does not see that well so he still chases the cats as he only sees quick movements and then feels that he has to chase the intruder. The cats are very good and have grown up with pugs so they have never lifted a claw to him even when I found Casper right on top of Harley. Cats are smart so they have learned that he does not see well and now know how to creep around him, we have a routine all worked out on how to avoid Casper, it works. He decided in this heat that it was time to blow his coat and boy did he ever. When I took a brush to him it was likes hearing a sheep there was so much hair, he is much slimmer now. he is amazing and wonderful and is a very happy boy

May 14, 2022 – Casper is doing do well I would have to say his dribbling has gone down about 80% in the last couple of weeks and he has not had an accident in the house for at least 2 weeks . He is no longer wearing his belly band and really know how to get my attention when he needs to go, he jumps once and climbs up right into my face so it is time for a walk. He loves his walks and is a beautiful joy to walk. He is a very smart boy and knows a lot of commands and tricks! He gives a paw, does aspen on his hind legs, knows to go down and give a paw like a king, haha. He does still leak in the night when he sleeps but maybe one out of every 10 nights he lets a bit more out he is coming along in leaps. I would imagine is taking a normal amount of time for his body to realize that it can hold liquid in his bladder again so given it has only been 7 weeks I would say he is really really recovering fast. he went to his chiro appointment today he is now down to every 3 weeks and it seems to be holding so much better his hump in his back has got down so significantly. He sleeps through the night without any issues and has adjusted so well to his routine. we get up, he goes out, he eats then goes back to sleep. He goes out again before I leave for work at 10am then I come home at 1pm and let him out and usually bring him back to work with me for the afternoon where he gets lots of love and sometimes treats from the delivery men. Then home from work for food and a Kong afterwards before falling asleep for a few hours before the nightly walk. He is an amazing boy and brings joy to all who meet him, tone of love to give and so very sweet.

May 4, 2022 – Casper is doing really well. His incision from his exploratory bladder surgery (fortunately, the vet only found a benign mass and was able to completely remove it) has healed up beautifully with no issues at all. He left it alone the whole time never wanted to clean it so we never had to use the cone collar. So far so good on the new food and meds. For the first week while on the larger dose of meds, Casper was NUTS but the vet said it was probably nothing to do with the meds at all he was finally feeling really good for the first time in a long while. There is no way to tell how much his mass was actually bothering him but seeing how he is now after a month is quit the transformation. Casper really has a lot of energy and quit the personality, he could walk for hours. He knows what he wants and does not spare any amount of sound or energy to let you know, so funny. He really enjoys his food and walks, he never stops running. After dinner each night, he gets his Kong with a bit of peanut butter and he chews it for hours, literally. No surface in the house is out of bounds when he is feeling curious except the kitchen counter and island and, he is very very good at giving you the most innocent of looks. He still dribbles a bit especially while sleeping but in the past week, he is having some really long pees which is very encouraging.  He seems to be going through a phase that most of my rescues have gone through, the protect at all cost! He really does not take his eyes off me for one second and has to follow me everywhere and protect me on our walks. In my experience, this will pass; it seems to be one of the phases they go through in the first year of they’re new life. He really is a sweet boy and really looks forward to his visits to the store where he gets to meet all kinds of people and share in the excitement with Jaxon over the Purolator & UPS guys. These guys truly are wonderful with Jaxon and Casper they even leave a treat on any boxes delivered to my house just in case we happen to miss them, they are so spoiled!!

February 14, 2022 – Casper is doing very well. We started his new medication almost two weeks ago and no vomiting at all. He does not seem to have any discomfort from the medication and I feel it may be working. I say this because he fills his belly band way less than he was. I still change it about 4 times a day but it is a lot less full, seems we only have about one that gets really full and that is in the early evening. he is still sleeping without his belly band and I only find a little or no wet spot in the mornings. He is sleeping much much better, right through the night now which is wonderful for both of us haha. I took a stool sample in to be tested and they said it looked totally normal nothing out of the ordinary so that is also very good news. Casper will stay on the meds for the next 2-4 weeks before they do another ultrasound to see if anything has changed with the mass in his bladder. He sleeps in the bed by the front door while I am at work but of course with an extra pillow in the bed, he must have that! I come home at lunch to let him out for a pee and give him a wee meal as the vet suggested for now it may be better to give him 3-4 smaller meals through the day to help with his tummy as maybe he was eating too much too fast so we have spread them out, which he REALLY enjoys. He is a beautiful boy that has so much love to give.

January 5, 2022 – Well, our little boy Casper is sure coming into his own. He has decided that he must investigate his surroundings, all his surroundings so the only safe place in the house is the kitchen island, tall dresser and a tall cabinet by the front door. When he decides that he thinks there might be something interesting he climbs, jumps or bounces onto tables and desks. While this is clearly a curiosity thing, I do have to say he does listen quit well when told not to do something. He is peeing a lot less often but still cannot be left without his trusty belly band as he leaks a bit and sometimes has a big pee while sleeping, poor wee man. He really enjoys his cuddles and likes to be beside you draped over one of your legs almost all the time, he like his bed too but only for a short while when I am home then he must be beside me.

A urine sample had to be sent off to a US lab during one of the busiest time of year so we have not got them back yet, hopefully this week so we are all crossing our fingers that the results are positive in a way that something can be fixed. He really is a ball of energy when he is awake and talks a lot he has many different voices, it is very funny and cute. We have not been able to go on too many long walks lately because of the ice and then the large amounts of salt on the sidewalk but we manage and at least he has the yard when all else fails. He loves his food, bounces off the kitchen cabinets in circles barking with great excitement when it is time for breakfast or dinner but is VERY well behaved when it comes to treat time. I have discovered he can sit very sweetly before treats and is very gentle but he can also stand on his back legs and dance in a circle before getting his treat. I took him to dog chiropractor for a treatment which is where we discovered his trick ability as she always gives lots of yummy treats after the treatment. He is a handful in the car, he does not sit still at all and jumps from side to side back to front so this is what we are going to work on next.
All in all he is a delight and a very sweet loving little pug and very handsome.

December 3, 2021 – Casper is doing well. No signs of blood in his urine and he is trying to pee a lot less in the house. He listens really well when I say no if he lifts his leg he stops and I walk him to the backdoor so he can go outside. Casper is eating well and has not vomited since I stopped the Metacam on Monday. He sleeps with us every night and sleeps quietly right through the night. He has started to try to mount Jaxon which caused a bit if a tiff in which he held his own and nobody got hurt it was just very loud. He has become my shadow, follows me everywhere and watches everything I do. The house is completely open to him and he has a bed right by the front door where he sleeps while I am away. Casper is a very sweet boy and gets very very excited at walk time so much so it is almost impossible to get his harness on as he barks and jumps in circles and grabs the leash in his mouth playing tug-a-war, so cute. He LOVES his walks and could walk forever it seems, he acts like he is still 2 years old, he is a very busy boy it is next to impossible to get a photo while on walks but I keep trying.

November 28, 2021 – Everything is going really really well with Casper. The resident puggle and him walk beautifully together so we have been doing some really nice walks. He is still peeing a lot but not drinking as much water and no signs of blood. Casper is eating well and last night I let him upstairs to sleep with the rest of us, no issues at all.  Casper is going back to the vet on December 9 for a recheck.

November 24, 2021 – Casper was surrendered to us yesterday.  He went to the vet clinic today; urine analysis showed elevated white & red blood cell count.
Xrays showed no stones in his bladder and no crystals in his urine.
There is 2 possibilities: Casper may have a bad infection or he may have a tumour.
His teeth are in terrible condition but we will deal with that once his condition has improved. Casper also has a cyst on his neck that will need to be surgically removed at some point to avoid any infection.
Casper will be spending the night at the vet and will be picked up by his new foster mom tomorrow afternoon.
He will be on Clavaseptin & Metacam for the next 14 days then we will bring him back to the vet for a urine analysis and blood work.
An ultrasound may be required at that time if his urine analysis is not normal.

JOHN

Age: 14 months
Adoption Fees: $750

November 28, 2021 – John is doing very well, he has learned a lot during the past 2 weeks.  John has been brought up to date in his vaccination and has been microchipped.  We are happy to announce that John is going to his forever home this Tuesday.  He will become a GTA resident.

November 22, 2021 – John seems to be feeling fine these days. He is continuing to find his place in the pack with the resident dogs, and is starting to feel more relaxed among the family. John is very playful but is yet to show his snuggly side on regular basis. He is very smart and will need extensive attention and basic training, to avoid his curiosity from turning into mischief. John will be best fit with a family with or without children, who have a lot of experience with training and have the patience to properly socialize him.

November 10, 2021 – John came in last night.  He is born on September 3, 2020 and he is neutered.  John is going to the vet this afternoon as he swallowed something in plastic and we think it is stuck inside as he has blood coming out of his bum and he is having a hard time to eliminate.  John is an active boy who seems to have had very little interaction with other dogs.  Stay tuned for more info on this nice boy after his initial vet visit.
