WINNIE

Age: 7
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

December 24, 2019 – Winnie has been adopted by a work from home couple.  She will share her life with 2 pug sisters and a pug brother.

December 24, 2019 – Winnie was at the vet today, her skin is looking better but she will continue her antibiotics for a few more weeks.  Winnie has started a kangaroo/oatmeal formula especially for dogs with skin conditions.  Winnie can be a bit bossy with other dogs but she is not aggressive.  She can live with other dogs and would do well with someone working from home or not gone for several hours at a time.

December 16, 2019 – Winnie has had a busy few days. She went to the vet for a check up and will continue with her antibiotics and was given a new shampoo for her itchy skin. Winnie was spayed today and is now recovering very quietly at home. While she was at the vet clinic, they were able to give her nails a good trim. She will go back to the vet on December 24 to have her skin re-checked.  She is eating a pork formula as we want to stay away from poultry due to her itchy skin.  Winnie is a real sweetheart of a dog and she is learning to live in a family environment with other dogs. She can be a little jealous at times. Winnie is great in the car, and loves going for drives. She will usually just sit on the seat.  When we go out, we leave Winnie loose in the house and she is great, no accidents and no mischief.

December 1, 2019 – Good news, Winnie does NOT have Cushing.  The blood results came back negative.  The vet noticed her hair are starting to grow.  Winnie is going back to the vet on December 11 and we will reassess her and see how her skin is doing and we will schedule her spaying surgery.

November 29, 2019 – Winnie has had a great week with no accidents. She has really adjusted to our routine. Each week, Winnie is feeling a little more comfortable with us and her environment and her personality comes out a little more. She is really sweet. She loves to lay on my lap no matter where I am sitting. Winnie is responding very well to her name and hoping to work on the basics commands with her; sit, stay. When guests come over to the house, Winnie will run over to greet them, but then will go back to either the pillow or my lap. We took advantage of the beautiful warm day this week and went for a long walk with her, she was excellent the whole time and walked well on the leash. She did however get cold near the end. She was so exhausted for the rest of the day and evening. Winnie went to the vet today and had some more blood work done and we are waiting the results. Skin scraping showed no mites.  She was prescribed some antibiotics for her skin and the vet also commented that she believes that Winnie is growing some new fur.  Winnie is to go back to the vet on 12 days for recheck.

November 21, 2019 – Winnie is settling in a lot more and has quickly picked up a routine and there has been no more accidents in the house.  She has completed her antibiotics but she is still receiving her ear drops and her medicated baths. After her bath she likes to go lay up on my bed, on my lap with her blanket on top of her.

Winnie is a real sweet girl that loves to curl up on your lap and lay there until you are ready to get up.
I am finding that Winnie is watching and learning how the resident pugs behave and is slowly doing what they do. She is also slowly learning how to play, right now we watch her, sneak to the toy bin, she gets a stuffy toy, runs to the bed sits there and will keep repeating until she has toys all around her. It is very comical to sit and watch her.
She  has slowly started to go down the stairs on her own along as I am walking down beside her.

When Winnie spots the cat she will try to chase and bark at him.

November 15, 2019 – We have started to see some improvements with Winnie. She is starting to feel more comfortable with us and like the resident pugs, she follows me around the house like my little shadow. She does not like to be alone. When we are out of the house, she is fine going in the crate and will let out just a couple of barks.  She is a very friendly dog and will run to greet any one that walks into the room.  We are going to start working with her on the basic commands, sit, stay.  Winnie is always trying to lay on my lap and cuddle. She is starting to play with toys and she loves to chew on the chew toys. She has no issues gong up any stairs, but she will not go down any stairs. Winnie has had a couple of accidents in the house especially when it is cold out. She really dislikes the snow and cold.  She has been a very good sport with taking her medicated baths and taking her antibiotics.

November 5, 2019 – Winnie was found stray in terrible condition, half of her body has no hair.  She is about 7 years old and is not spayed.  Was clearly used for breeding.  Winnie is going to the vet this afternoon for a complete check up & blood work.  Follow this sweet girl as we get to know her better in the coming weeks.

ABBY

Age: 9
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

December 3, 2019 – Abby has been adopted by her foster parents.  She lives with a senior pug named Vitto.

December 1, 2019 – Abby was a trooper and made it through her dental surgery without a hitch (but you already know that!). As a result of her losing her front bottom teeth, her tongue now permanently sticks out a little, which only makes her more adorable.  She is still a little groggy (the pain meds certainly contributing to that). She is coughing a lot, which we will continue to monitor. There was a little blood and discharge this morning but nothing concerning. She is eating and drinking normally.

She is resting up today catching all the weekend ZzzZzz’s she can. Abby sends a big thank you to the staff at Liston Animal Hospital who took such good care of her yesterday, they made her feel comfortable and treated her like a Queen!

November 21, 2019 – Abby continues to settle in. She needs to be wherever we are! Her favorite thing to do is to sleep on the pillow in the big bed above foster mom’s head. She’ll snuggle down until morning when she begins to lick the foster humans to wake up.  Last weekend, she had a girls night and helped put up the Christmas tree. She was dazzled by the lights and uses the tree skirt as a pillow!  Abby is getting her teeth cleaned on November 29.

November 9, 2019 – Abby is becoming comfortable in our home. She is settling into a routine and we are now at 5 days without any accidents! She loves attention and will wag her tail at anyone who glances her way. Last night there was a fire alarm at our building and she was in heaven getting loves from all of the firefighters who came to say hello while we waited downstairs. Abby is thrilled to get to sleep on the big bed and likes to wake you up by climbing on your chest and giving you kisses on your face. If you’re not quite ready to wake up yet, she will happily curl up on your chest and go back to sleep. She really just wants to be wherever you are. She still doesn’t like us humans touching her ears, eyes, or snout, but we are building trust every day. It seems as if her hearing is improving (marginally)–she sometimes hears high pitched noises and will start to bark. She still doesn’t respond to her name or any commands, though.  Abby is a wonderful and happy houseguest!

October 30, 2019 – Abby is a happy girl who loves attention. She is content to trot behind you as you do household chores as long as you take a minute or two to snuggle her every now and then. She gets the zoomies when she sees her leash and harness and will run around in circles while waiting for the elevator. She enjoys a nice long walk and will go with you for however long you wish. Her hind legs are very stiff in the mornings when she wakes up and it takes her a couple of minutes to adjust and get moving, but once she gets going she doesn’t stop! To relax, she likes to lie on a couch pillow. She is not shy to let you know she wants up, and will stand on her hind legs to say “give me a lift!”. She still isn’t responsive to noise despite the ear medication, so it is likely that she is deaf or have very selective hearing. We attended the vet last night to get her final dose of ear medication and provided a urine sample. Since Sunday, there has only been one accident inside: at a time where she had just been taken out but I was not giving her all of the attention. We think her indoor accidents are behavioral and are now very cautious to take her outside before a time when all eyes might not be on her (like when we are eating dinner or while I take a bath).
When it comes to food, she is curious but not food motivated. She is a grazer and won’t always go to her food right away, and sometimes leaves it to come back to it a short while later.

October 22, 2019 – Abby came in last Friday after her owner sadly passed away.  This sweet girl is a bundle of energy who follows us wherever we go. She particularly enjoys being up on the couch and will hop up on her hind legs to let us know she is looking for a lift!  Abby is a mouth breather and has quite the pug snorts.  She has yet to respond to any sound (even her name), and seems to have some sensitivity with her ears. Her face and paws seem almost constantly itchy and she’s gnawing on her paws and rubbing her face up against any corner, wall, or blanket she can find.  Abby curled up on the big bed with us last night and slept the whole night through. She LOVES walks and gets very excited when she sees her leash. She is very good on her leash and it is hilarious to watch her ears bounce as she trots.
She is a special little girl.  Abby is going to the vet tonite for a complete check up.

LILI

Age: 6
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

November 27, 2019 – Lili is gone to her forever home.  She will be showered with love by her retired mom & dad.

November 24, 2019 – Lili went to vet yesterday. The vet was very happy with her eyes. For now, she will require lubricant eye drops 4 times daily and cyclosporine eye ointment twice daily. With time, the new owner may be able to decrease cyclosporine to once daily, with continued improvement.
Lili is full of life and feeling great. She is a pleasure to have around and always makes us laugh.

November 21, 2019 – Lili is doing her business outside now, and will need continued patience and persistence to engrain this behaviour in to her routine. She requires eye lubricant three times daily.  She has “dry” eyes, which is quite common with pugs.  At the moment she gets lubricant drops & cyclosporine, to be assessed today at the vet to see if she needs to continue to get both lubricant and cyclosporine.
No small children for this girl please as she requires a more quiet, and calm environment.  Although she is nervous in new situations she does settle in quickly. Lili would like a home with another small, gentle natured dog.
If you are looking for a sweet, quiet girl for a companion, Lili is your girl.  Lili will soon be available for adoption.

November 15, 2019 – Lili is recovering well from her spaying surgery.  She will be on antibiotics until Tuesday November 19. Lili needs a home with no small children. (She gets very anxious and can “paw” at little ones and scratch them).
Another small gentle dog would be great.  She doesn’t like to be left alone too much.

November 11, 2019 – Lili hasn’t had an accident for a week in the house. She is well on her way.
Lili loves to run in little circles tossing her toys around and gently yipping. This lasts about 10 min then she’s ready to settle down beside you and have another snooze.
Lili is a wonderful little girl at night, sleeping in her comfy crate which is lined with an old down coat.  She snuggles down and we don’t hear a peep from her until morning. Because Lili is still nervous in new environments and seems frightened when there are loud noises or commotion, we feel a home with no young children would be best.
Lili would certainly enjoy the company of another gentle natured small dog.  She is quite relaxed when we go out if she can see the other resident pugs.
She would do best with someone who would not leave her alone for very long periods.  This will also make the routine of toilet training continue to be successful.  This tiny girl is the sweetest little pug.  She is so gentle and easy to have around.  All that she requires is some someone to love and the warmth of a nice home (and a good down blanket).

November 9, 2019 – Lili is doing awesome. She is starting to be more playful and is very funny. She is a low energy dog, and does not require a lot of exercise. Because she has a very thin coat of hair she cannot tolerate the the cold very well (she sheds very little). 2 short walks a day is all is needs. (10 min). She runs around the house a bit and scampers around but this is also fairly short lived and she will find her bed and fall into a deep sleep.
When she came to us she was very fearful. Cringing when you bend over to pat her and very reluctant to leave the security of her crate (which we leave the door open to most of the time). As time passes she has learned that she can trust us and is spending more time outside her crate. She was also very fearful of doing her business, Lili can hold it longer than any pug we have ever fostered. Lots of patience waiting for her to go, and getting her on a regular schedule seems to be working. This is work her adoptive Family will need to continue with and need patience to let her learn that this is how you expect her to behave.
She continues with the eye drops and we think her eyes look good most of the time. Less digging and rubbing face on blankets etc. This is something she will need for life. Hopefully she will get down to once or twice a day.
Overall, this little Mighty Mouse is a joy to have and with love and patience would be an amazing companion.

October 30, 2019 – Lili is settling into her new foster home. We are working on the toilet training, she can hold it for a very long time and if we put her out frequently she does eventually go.  No accidents inside yet.
She is still getting frequent eye drops and her eyes seem to be responding to the treatment.  They still get dry and have thick mucous at times but she also has times where they look moist and “normal”.
Lili loves to sit beside you and be with you.  She can be playful, but so far seems to be a fairly low energy pug.  Sleeping a lot and lying about in the sun.
This picture was taken on Big Rideau Lake, she had gone for long walk and was enjoying a rest before heading back.  Stay tuned for more on Lili as we spend more time with her.

October 22, 2019 – Lili went to the vet yesterday for a complete checkup and to be brought up to date in her vaccination.  She has no tears in her eyes and requires tear gel for the rest of her life.  The vet believe she has 10% sight on the left eye and 50% on the right but that doesn’t stop this sweet girl.  Lili will get spayed and have her teeth cleaned in the coming weeks. She is a very affectionate little girl. Loves to cuddle & give kisses. She’s very well behaved. Eats well. Is well mannered. Doesn’t bother with the cat. The cat was drinking water and she was eating beside her in the dual bowl. She has gone for a couple of walks. But prefers to follow me around the yard to get her exercise. Couldn’t care that there are barking dogs on both sides of me. She’s met the children next door. Was super excited to get hugs and attention from them. She just loves people and attention.  She sleep through the night in a dog bed next to mine. She’s getting better at hitting pee pads. I think her biggest issue is her eye sight.  I’ve noticed that if she stops to smell something while we’re in the yard she losses track of me and gets confused. If I call her or clap she can come to me.  Lili made wonderful progress last night and got up from her bed in the bedroom and went into the kitchen to use the pee pad. She partially missed but a total win that she didn’t go in her bed or the bedroom. Today was her vet visit. It went well. She squirmed quite a bit but took the needles like a champ. Afterwards we walked in the yard and for the first time she peed outside. We celebrate with lots of praise and a treat.

October 16, 2019 – Lili just came in this afternoon.  She is a 6 year old puppy mill survivor.  Lili is about 11lbs and she has a burn mark on her back.  She also has dry eyes and ear infection.  She has 3 different medication to put in her eyes + tear gel and medication to put in her ears.  Lili is the sweetest little girl and she is very friendly and cuddly.

LOU

Age: 3
Adoption Fees: $400
Adoption Status:

November 16, 2019 – Lou has been adopted by her foster mom, she is living a dream life with her best friend, Pepper, the Boston terrier.

November 13, 2019 – Lou likes to run in the snow No issues with her going out to do her business ….
Her nostrils are still looking a bit sore so I still keep her cone on. She has been feeling better with the Metacam and has her energy back and wants to play Thankfully she is very good with her cone and I will take it off only if she’s next to me on the couch and just for a short while . She will try to rub her nose if she can get to it.  She got a new sweater last week for her walks , just in time for the cold snowy weather.  Lou loves to cuddle and sit on my lap , she also loves to cuddle with the resident Boston, they just love each other, so cute to see them together.  Her appetite is great.  Lou loves her walks and car rides and gets really excited when she sees the harness but then she runs away and it’s quite the game catching her. She is stubborn and comes only if she feels like it or if I go out of sight !  Little Lou is definitely starting to feel better, her stitches are still in and her nostrils should soon be completely healed.

November 12, 2019 – Lou is healing nicely.
She is doing very well on raw food diet.
Despite her surgeries , she is a happy sweet little girl, very tolerant with her cone collar. In another week, if her nostrils are healed we can ditch that cone.
Lou is very attached to me and likes to be on my lap or just snuggles next to me.
Lou is a bit naughty at times and runs away if I’m trying to get her to come in … Just a tad stubborn ! She likes to play and do zoomies but we’ve kept it to a minimum as she’s healing … My grandson was visiting tonight and Lou was just so lovable and curious about him .,. She just wanted to sit next to him and she was so gentle.

October 30, 2019 – Lou was spayed on Monday and had her soft palate shorten and nostrils enlarged.  She is back to her foster mom for a smooth recovery.  Lou will be available for adoption as soon as she is completely healed.

October 23, 2019 – Lou has transitioned to raw food very well. She has fast become buddies with Pepper, the resident Boston Terrier, but will still try to chase the cats if she can. Lou is very smart and responds to “no” very well.  She continues to love her car rides and going for her walks. She enjoys being outside in the yard as long as I’m with her , and surprisingly she will go do her business in the rain … She has been well trained in that area !  She likes to run around and play.
What a beautiful little girl Lou is, so full of love and just like a pug, a constant shadow.

October 7, 2019 – What a bundle of joy Lou is ! No adverse reactions to her shots and had a great checkup at the vet last Friday. Her ears need some attention but I have some Burrows here to administer. Lou is healthy and full of happy energy .. She likes to chase the resident cats.  The cats are taking a wide berth right now and want nothing to do with her and it’s good they sleep in the day and are on the move at night.  Lou has quite a snore and does mouth breathing after running around. She walks good on the leash, we had a good walk today and loves to also run around the yard …. Has done a few zoomies.
She is great with other dogs.  Her weight is good at 20lbs.
She is used to the ramp up to the bed now and the stairs to the couch.
Lou is pretty smart and is quite curious ! She is also completely housetrained , no accidents ….
Loves to be close to her people and in typical pug fashion follows me wherever I go.  Lou also loves the car and is a good passenger ! She is a delight.

October 2, 2019We welcomed Lou today.  This sweet 2-3 year girl has  been found stray and never claimed after a few weeks.  Lou will be going to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in her vaccination.

JERRY

Age: 6
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

October 7, 2019 – Jerry went to his forever home yesterday with his brother Ben.  They will be residents of Montreal.

September 23, 2019 – Ben and Jerry are enjoying the fall weather. Walks are more comfortable and dandelions are delicious (according to Jerry). We are hoping the increasingly cold weather will allow us to decrease and eventually discontinue Jerry’s allergy medication. Fingers crossed that this is the case.

The only new piece of information I can offer this week is an observation about the boys feeding behaviour. We have  always known that Jerry can get a bit frantic around food. We have been working on getting both he and Ben to sit and stay before treats and meals to try to encourage calm, gentle behaviour.

Additionally, We have always fed them separately: one in the kitchen, the other in the living room with a gate between, in order to decrease the chance that one dog would steal the other’s food.

This past week we had occasion to feed them together, and Jerry became quite tetchy when Ben came close to his bowl.  Hence, I would recommend Jerry’s future adoptive family feed him separately from other dogs, or at least initially observe him if he is eating with others. Jerry does allow members of the family to pick up his food dish while he is eating with no growling or aggression.

September 6, 2019 – Jerry is reestablished on his allergy medication (Vanectyl-P) and feeling much better. He will have to maintain his prescription for the foreseeable future, but hopefully will enjoy a break from allergies when the cold weather comes. I had noticed Jerry evaded pats to the very top of his head and balked at having his halter placed over his head as well these past few weeks. After hearing him yelp when the vet tech checked his ears last week, I think that his evasion may be because of prolonged discomfort of his ears brought about by his allergies. I’m hoping with sustained treatment his fear will pass. (He absolutely adores having the back of his head petted and all other snuggles. He’s otherwise a devotedly affectionate doggo.) We enjoyed some play with toys this week, and had all our usual walks and outings. The dogs wish to alert their future family that they are made of sugar, and prefer not to be walked in the rain. They tolerated it with dignified forbearance, but it was clearly not their preference.

We continue to love being with these boys. The family who adopts them are very lucky!

August 28, 2019 – This week the boys seemed particularly motivated to seek out alternate food opportunities, lol. Their adoptive family should know that access to the food bowls of other pets, garbage cans, recycling bins, diaper pails, litter boxes, dinning room tables and kitchen counters will have to be monitored closely to ensure the boys health and safety. These pups can seemingly fly when motivated! I’ve seen latches unlatched and cupboards nosed open…Jerry grabbed Ben’s food bowl from under the baby gate! Hilarious. But I don’t see any of this as a fault in Ben or Jerry. I’m reminded of the quote: ”A dog never makes a mistake. He is just a dog and he does what he does because he is a dog and thinks like a dog. It is you that makes the mistake because you haven’t trained him to do what you want him to do when you want him to do it.”  ~George Attla
Ben and Jerry’s adoptive family are going to have lots of adventures training and loving these clever, vibrant little dogs!

August 21, 2019 -Third week with these beautiful boys and it was an eventful one. Friday, August 16 was dentist day! Jerry had 9 teeth removed while Ben had a whopping 16 teeth extracted! The boys were very helpful and communicated how they were doing to us via the curl in their tails…Friday both tails were completely limp, but by Sunday we were back to full curl with a wiggle! They’ll have their recheck with the vet this Saturday. Jerry has been taking prescribed medication on a daily basis to treat his allergies, and his recovery has been phenomenal, except for his stubborn ears ! The vet will decide this week if he needs a little extra help in that department. Ben continues to be healthy and unflappable. They continue to bark when anyone approaches the house, but I do believe with time and patience they could be trained to learn a new behaviour, as they’re sensitive to their people and eager to please. We’ll keep working on it, but this might be a goal with their forever family.

I actually think they would benefit a great deal from obedience training in general and would highly recommend it to their adoptive family. While they are very clever and generally respond well to basic instructions, (they get the “gist” of what you’re asking them to do) they do not seem to know formal commands (“sit”, “stay”, down”, “drop it”, “ leave it”, etc). I think that being able to communicate more clearly with their family would help them feel more confident and secure while also helping with bonding. No marking incidents this week! Even when they were tipsy from anesthesia. What good boys.

August 15, 2019 – Ben & Jerry are bonded. They sleep together, groom one another, and generally stick together most of the time. They become stressed if one is taken into a different room, and they try to cross the road to reunite if the two people walking them become separated. We would love to have these 2 boys adopted together as they share a very good friendship/bond.  Ben & Jerry are getting their teeth cleaned tomorrow and will then become available for adoption.

August 8, 2019 – It’s been a little over 1 week and Ben and Jerry seem to be settling into their foster home.  They’re particularly affectionate with my husband and I, and love a good snuggle on the couch. They’re also happy to indulge in a scratching/petting session from one of the kids! Jerry seems especially inclined to stick to his people, while Ben is a bit more independent and doesn’t mind hanging out on the couch by himself.

They both walk very well on a leash and enjoy their 3 daily walks and backyard breaks throughout the day. They also enjoyed a trip to conroy pit park on the weekend (on leash), and got along well with other dogs who approached them; however, they don’t care to approach dogs. This is much the same as their reaction to the other animals in our home (cat, guinea pig): polite but not really interested.

We’ve tried to play with them on several occasions but they don’t show interest in toys or balls at this point. They’re mostly keen on cuddling and walks. Sometimes they’ll work on their chew toys. I attempted to interest them in a child’s pool on a hot day but they told me they didn’t do wet feet before returning to the house and leaving me alone in the backyard!

Barking is only an issue when someone approaches or leaves the house but they quiet down quickly. They do appear unhappy and anxious when they are left home alone, but are not destructive. Marking continues to be an issue, particularly with Jerry who is definitely the more dominant pug and I believe aspires to dominate all the animals in the house via his scent! But we’re working on it. It might suggest that he might do better in a house with no other animals except Ben, if this behaviour continues despite belly belts, positive reinforcement, many bathroom breaks, and walks.

Ben and Jerry seem to be a bonded pair; however, it does seem that Jerry is more attached to Ben than Ben is to Jerry!  Jerry will seek out Ben, groom him, snuggle him and sometimes try to herd him, or boss him around. Ben does not seem to seek out Jerry  but seems content in his company.

Both pugs are impressively trim, fit and agile. Jerry will get up on your kitchen table of preventative measures aren’t taken! Ben’s allergies have improved by leaps and bounds. His skin is healing and he no longer scratches. Both pugs enjoy their food and seem to enjoy good digestion. These are two friendly, loveable pugs.

August 2, 2019 – Jerry went to the vet today and was brought up to date in his vaccination and microchipped.  Jerry is taking medication to treat his skin.  His dental cleaning is scheduled for August 16.

July 30, 2019 – Jerry came in today with his brother Ben.  Jerry is 6 years old and he is neutered.  Jerry has red skin due to allergies.  He was at the vet this afternoon for a complete check up and was put on steroids and Vanectyl-P.  Follow Jerry’s story in the coming weeks as we get to know him better.

BEN

Age: 7
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

October 7, 2019 – Ben went to his forever home with his brother Jerry yesterday.  They will now be residents of Montreal, QC

September 6, 2019Ben continues to truck along, enjoying his snuggles and steadfastly seeking ways to get on the kitchen counter.  We enjoyed some play with toys this week, and had all our usual walks and outings. The dogs wish to alert their future family that they are made of sugar, and prefer not to be walked in the rain. They tolerated it with dignified forbearance, but it was clearly not their preference.  We continue to love being with these boys. The family who adopts them are very lucky!

August 28, 2019This week, the boys seemed particularly motivated to seek out alternate food opportunities, lol. I’m reminded of the quote:
”A dog never makes a mistake.

August 21, 2019 – Third week with these beautiful boys and it was an eventful one.

They seem pretty bonded.  We would love to have these 2 boys adopted together as they share a very good friendship/bond.  Ben & Jerry are getting their teeth cleaned tomorrow and will then become available for adoption.

August 8, 2019 – It’s been a little over week and Ben and Jerry seem to be settling into their foster home.

August 2, 2019 – Ben went to the vet today and was brought up to date in his vaccination and microchipped.  He is getting his teeth cleaned on August 16.

July 30, 2019 – Ben came in today with his brother, Jerry.  Ben is 7 years old and he is neutered.  Ben went to the vet this afternoon for a complete check up.  Follow Ben’s story as we get to know him better.

MARCUS

Age: 11 months
Adoption Fees: $575
Adoption Status:

November 13, 2019 – Marcus has been adopted by his foster family…he will share his life with his best buddy, Bogie.

November 12, 2019 – Marcus is getting his last physiotherapy session on November 16 and the vet said he doesn’t need a follow up appointment.  He is doing very well and is ready to be adopted.  We will be looking for a home with a young dog to play with him.

November 5, 2019 – Marcus is doing so well, it’s looking like Fall is his favorite season. The cool weather allows for long walks and outdoor playtime. He’s one active pup! He loves to wrestle and play with the resident pug in the leaves. He’s eating well, every meal is gobbled up, but he has wonderful manners, never possessive of his food or bowls. We take him for a long walk everyday on top of his regular walks, and he has become fantastic on leash. He still has some work to do, he’s still just a pup, but he is a fast learner. Despite his dislike of the water treadmill, he loves the bath! He always wants to get in the tub with the kids, and he’s so calm and happy. He just walks around the tub, and gives the boys wet kisses. His second to last physio appointment is this Saturday.

October 30, 2019 – Marcus was at the vet on Monday. He still doesn’t have a full range of motion in his left leg, mostly on his extension, and there is one muscle that is still underdeveloped, however, the vet said both of these are to be expected with the surgery he had. As far as his healing and development go, the vet said that we have hit all of our goals with Marcus, and that he has healed up as much as we can expect at this time.  The vet said Marcus is ready to be adopted after his last physio appointments are completed. His last remaining appointments are on Nov 9 & Nov 16.

October 18, 2019 – Marcus is a little star in physio. They have him doing several different exercises, and using different items to stretch and balance. During his last session he….

  • got his laser therapy and his muscle stimulating session. Getting his muscles stimulated takes 10 minutes and he’s quiet and calm the whole time.
  • he did his back-ups, backing out of a narrow space, his figure eights around traffic cones, and stepping over raised bars. He is now stepping over 4 inches, and when he started, he was only doing two.
  • balanced with his two front paws then his two back paws on a physio half-ball, and stretched out his hips over a physio ball.
  • Stood on three legs while his back good leg was held up. The goal is two minutes, and he nailed it his very first time doing it!
  • Stood and balanced with all four paws on a rocker board while it was tipped side to side.
  • did a whopping 17 minutes on the treadmill!! He started at just 5!!
Sarah, his physiotherapist, is so impressed with him! Every time he goes, he is stronger. Using all four of his legs is now the norm, we have not seen him hold up his bad leg or hop in weeks. Walking, running, stairs, he can do it all, and does it using both back legs equally. He loves playing tug, and strong back legs play a huge part in that. He can easily go for hour long walks, or even longer. The cooler weather has been amazing for him, he can exercise to his hearts content without getting over heated. He is just the most happy go lucky little thing!
We have to keep a close eye on him, given the opportunity he will get into anything! He tries to put everything in his mouth, and wants to chew like crazy. A steady stream of Nylabones and toys keep him happy. Marcus doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, and is NEVER possessive, even if resident pug, Queen Oona decides that she wants the bone he’s chewing on, and takes it right out of his mouth. He just looks sad for a second, then accepts his fate and goes and finds another bone. His main mission in life seems to be getting every single squeeker out of every single squeek toy he comes across.
I’m not sure I can put into words the absolute joy and happiness Marcus has brought us. Now that it’s been a few months, we have all settled into a perfect routine with all three dogs. All three of them lined up at their bowls eating is just one of the most heart warming sights.

October 8, 2019 – I have no words for little Marcus. It had been the experience of a lifetime to watch him go from scared, meek little dog to a full-blown PUPPY before our very eyes. So happy and wiggly, he has charmed the pants of everyone at the Cedarview Animal Hospital, and no one can believe how well his physio/hydrotherapy is going. Everyday he gets stronger, and when people meet him, if they don’t see his scar, they have no idea he’s even had surgery. Marcus has fallen in love with the outdoors and the long walks he takes with his foster dad. Oh my gosh, and he has also discovered “zoomies”!! Resident pug Bogie is his absolute best friend in the world, and the two of them playing is the funniest things, you cannot imagine the noises. He absolutely loves chewing on his Nylabones, and playing tug. He shows no fear whatsoever when it comes to meeting other dogs and people on leash, he just wants to say hi! He is so sweet, so cozy, we just love him so much!!

September 17, 2019 – Marcus has started underwater treadmill and physiotherapy sessions on September 10.  He will be going for 10 sessions.  He is doing very well and love to be able to play all he can with the resident pug.

August 27, 2019 – Marcus was at the vet this morning to assess his condition to make sure he is ready to start physio/hydrotherapy and he sure is.  He will be getting 10 sessions of physio/hydrotherapy twice a week starting September 10 up to October 12.  The vet also mentioned he can play without any limitation with the resident pug.  Marcus’s foster mom has stretching exercise to do with the little man’s leg.  So far, so good with this sweet boy.

August 22, 2019 – Marcus is a new dog, and totally embracing being the puppy he never got to be before due to his leg. He has COMPLETELY come out of his shell! He still doesn’t have much interaction with other dogs, other then our two, but he adores Oona and Bogie. They are always snuggling and Marcus wants to play so badly! It’s adorable. We are still keeping him from over doing it on his leg, and we are really excited for him to start physio/hydrotherapy next week. He is still the sweetest little soul, but oh, he can be trouble! He loves to “attack” our feet under blankets, wrestles with the boys stuffed animals, and tried to chew everything! He is a quick learner though, and if we redirect his chewing with a toy, he is happy to focus on that, especially if we hold it for him. When he’s sleepy or tired, he is the definition of snuggle bunny. He liked to curl up as close as he can to you, and rest his head on you. He is one heartbreakingly adorable sweetheart.  He loves to go for his walks, and everyday we see him trying to use his leg a little more, testing it out. He will have the *occasional* accident in the house, but it’s always our fault, not taking him out quick enough. Those accidents are VERY few and far between, and he has learned to sit at the front door when he wants to go out.  He is eating every bite of his food, typical pug, and shows ZERO food aggression or possessiveness. He has excellent manners and gets along incredibly well with the kids, and is more than happy to meet new people, as long as they are calm and not freaking out over the cute puppy. Marcus is just the perfect little pug, and we feel so lucky to be able to take care of him and watch him grow and blossom from a scared little puppy in pain, to a curious, happy, healthy puppy!

August 8, 2019 – Marcus continues to recover wonderfully from his recent Legge-Calve-Perthes disease surgery.  He has a much happier face and we have started little stretching his leg exercise.  Marcus is going back to the vet on August 13 for a recheck and he is starting physiotherapy/hydrotherapy on August 26.

August 4, 2019 – Marcus has a surgery for the Legge-Calve-Perthes disease 2 days ago.  It went very well.  He is now back with his foster family for a smooth recovery.  He has to stay calm and crated for the next couple of weeks with the exception of going out to do his business.  Marcus will have to go into physio in a near future.  He is going back to the vet clinic in 8 days for a recheck.  Note that Marcus is NOT available for adoption so pls do NOT send us any adoption application.

July 30, 2019 – Marcus is born December 3, 2018.  This sweet boy has a condition called Legge-Calve-Perthes disease.  He needs surgery on his right hind leg to correct.  Marcus is neutered and up to date in his vaccination.  Marcus came in just today so we will post more on him once we get to know him better.

PRETZEL

Age: 1 year
Adoption Fees: $500
Adoption Status:

October 5, 2019 – Pretzel is gone to her forever home where she will spend her life with an active Golden Retriever.

September 16, 2019 – Pretzel has had a good week. She did have a few accidents in the house. Pretzel loves to play fetch and she loves playing with the resident pugs. Pretzel enjoys a nice cuddle after a day of play. She will curl up with you on the couch or in bed. Pretzel enjoys going for walks and walks well on the leash.  Pretzel will follow me all around the house and she is like a little shadow. We have been working on a few commands and she is slowly catching on. Pretzel likes to sleep in the bed with us and she will stay in the bed until morning.
When my seventh month old grand daughter visits, Pretzel is always gentle with her and gives her kisses.

September 6, 2019 – Pretzel’s forever home ideally has:
A large fenced in backyard
A young playful dog because Pretzel LOVES to run & play
An active family who will give her 3 long walks a day
Someone working from home or a home where she would only spend a few hours alone every day
Pretzel would thrive in a family who would bring her on long hiking trails…she would also enjoy a running partner. This sweet girl needs training and has LOTS of potential. She just didn’t have the chance to get trained as a puppy so she barks & bites fingers to play.  Pretzel is getting the visit of a dog trainer this coming Thursday to assess her and see what’s the best way to train this sweet girl to become a polite and well behaved dog.

August 30, 2019 – Pretzel’s forever home is an active family who will e willing to get her into obedience training.  She is a young pug who hasn’t learned anything.  She will be mouthy and will bite fingers if she gets over excited and she will bark.  A good structure with clear rules would benefit this sweet girl.  Pretzel is petite at 14lbs.  She gets along well with dogs and kids.  Life in an appartment is NOT for Pretzel.  A fenced in backyard where she can play fetch and run with another playful dog would be ideal.  Pretzel just turned 1 on August 22.

August 20, 2019 – Pretzel’s forever home has:
A fenced in backyard
Ideally a young playful dog….
An active family who will exercise her several times a day.  Pretzel is still a puppy and loves to chase squirrels, cars, bicycles, birds & everything that moves; she will NOT come back when called so life in the country with NO fenced in area is NOT suitable for this little dynamo…..
Obedience training would also benefit this little girl.
Life in an appt is NOT suitable for Pretzel as she tends to be quite vocal (we are working on that).
Pretzel is about 14lbs.

August 12, 2019 – All is still well with lil Pretzel. She has two speeds: zoomies & sleepies. We’ve been walking her for ~30 minutes four times a day with lots of play time in between. This tuckers her out and she is content to curl up beside us and snooze. Pretzel walks fairly well but tends to try to chase after cars, bicycles, and humans. We are working on keeping her focused on the sidewalks but her recall needs a little work. Her forever home has a fenced in backyard to prevent her from running into the street.  Pretzel is ok with being left alone for a couple hours at a time. She howls a little when we first walk out the door but is quiet within a minute or two. When we come back she is quiet until she hears the key in the lock, when she goes into full zoomie mode.  She continues to be mindful of resident pug Vitto, giving him his space. Except maybe when food is involved. But we’ve come up with a successful distraction plan to maintain calm.

July 29, 2019 – Pretzel had a ball at yesterday Mid-Summer Pawty.  She is now ready to be adopted.  We are looking for an active family and ideally, one with another young dog with whom Pretzel will be able to play.

July 25, 2019 – Pretzel has had a good week, a couple of accidents in the house but we are working on getting better. Pretzel is back to her playful self. She is enjoying playing fetch with a little rubber ball. When she is having quiet time, she does enjoy sitting quietly on the couch and having cuddles. And she loves to sleep right beside you. She is doing well on her walks. She loves playing outside in the yard and tries very hard to get the other dogs to chase her.
She does like to be my little shadow and follow me all around the house.

July 23, 2019 – Pretzel arrived to rescue a little over a week ago.  She is a very playful little girl who got spayed last week, she is now recovering in her foster family.  Pretzel is born August 22, 2018.
