June 28, 2014 – Ruby is gone to her forever home last night……..(-:
Age: 4 1/2 years old
June 5, 2014 – Sushi is going to her forever home this Saturday. She will be sharing her life with a kind Golden Retriever.
May 22, 2014 – Sushi had her appointment with Dr. Bacon (orthopedic specialist) yesterday. He has concluded that the problem with her hinds legs is neurological; meaning that at some point in her young life she suffered a spinal cord injury causing a disruption in the signals between her hind end and her brain. Although this makes her a little more vulnerable it by no means makes her an invalid. Sushi should however avoid rough play and slippery surfaces where she may fall as she can be knocked over easily; but walking especially on uneven terrain will not only improve her muscle strength it will also improve the connection between her legs and brain improving her balance so she should walk every day to make her stronger and she LOVES walking. Sushi was an excellent patient repaying Dr. Bacon with a wagging tail and sloppy kisses. This little pug is very smart and eager to learn new things; not only does she understand sit she is also doing well with come and leave it. She is such an easy girl to care for; needing only some regular exercise, a few treats and lots of love. Please contact us HERE if you are interested in adopting Sushi.

May 9, 2014 – Rosie is going to her forever home tomorrow..(-:
April 15, 2014 – Imagine your life, although not great, is turned upside down and you are thrown into a new world of new challenges and experiences. We are always amazed at the tenacity of the pugs in our care, so eager to learn and adapt at our feet. Rosie has returned from the vet with five less teeth but with a breathtaking smile and an amazing new outlook on life. No longer able to be used for her body, Rosie is adapting wonderfully every day to her new life of love and freedom. Rosie is learning that the leash means roaming in the outdoors where she is being introduced to so many new things; grass, rocks, and so much fresh air. Rosie has learned that stairs may be the path to the giant beds that hold her caring humans, a magnificent place where cuddles are given amongst warmth and so many pillows! Rosie is a compact pug at 16.3 lbs. and is loving life – are you able to introduce her to all the wonderment that life beyond a cage has to offer? If you are interested in meeting or adopting Rosie, please contact us HERE……
April 2, 2014 – Rosie was at the vet last night for a complete check up. Everything looks good. Her heart is fine and she seems in good health. Rosie was brought up to date in her vaccination and will be spayed and have her teeth cleaned in the coming weeks.
March 31, 2014 – Rosie came in yesterday. She will be going to the vet this week for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in her vaccination. Rosie will also be spayed soon. Stay tuned for more info on this beautiful girl.
Age: 5 1/2 years old
May 1, 2014 – Cher will be going to her forever home in 2 weeks. She will be living with a pug brother.
April 22, 2014 – Cher had her last vet appointment today, and got her vaccinations and had her eyes checked. No major problems were identified. We had noticed that she did not seem to see well. The vet confirmed that she can see, but speculated that because of her poor health history, it may be that her eyes had had some problems in the past that weren’t treated properly and they had deteriorated affecting the quality of her vision. She was a trooper through it all, and is now relaxing at home.
April 15, 2014 – Much like her fellow friends, Cher is adapting to life on this side. Cher is holding her own with other animals and is intrigued no matter the size and after settling in, Cher has developed a love of playing with two and four legged beings. Cher seems to be getting along with children and would therefore do well in a home with or without children or pets. With a proud new smile and love in her life, Cher is also content to sashay on her walks, strutting for the neighbourhood. A proud pug indeed. Like so many of our adoptees, Cher is made of 90% Velcro that is attracted 100% to human legs. Cher wants to share her life with humans and show them that she is so worthy of love.
April 14, 2014 – Cher had 7 teeth extracted last Friday. She needs to eat soft food for the next little while. She mastered the short flight of stairs on the back porch, and has also mastered going up the big flight inside the house. She still asks for help going down that one, but I think she’s really tempted to try it on her own…maybe she will once she’s recovered.
April 4, 2014 – Cher was at the vet yesterday and she has very bad teeth. She has a bit of dry eyes so she has been prescribed eye drops. Cher is getting her teeth cleaned on Friday April 11 and will be brought up to date in her vaccination once she’s completely recovered from the dental procedure. We have confirmed that Cher has been spayed in February 2013.
April 2, 2014 – Things are looking up! Cher has begun to come out of her shell. She is roaming the house on her own more and is wagging her tail (well, really, her whole back end) quite a bit. She is now eating full meals with the other animals, although she still needs to be enticed with a little gravy on her kibble. Despite a very slow and stubborn start, she has progressed from refusing to walk on a leash to happlily trucking down the sidewalk on short walks and she also enjoys wandering around in the backyard with Stanley, the resident dog. She has also improved with her stair climbing (up, not down…we’ll work on that later) and has jumped up on the couch twice all by herself. She has engaged with Stanely in a some playtime, although that was followed by some huffing and puffing and a nap. All this exercise is definitely new to her, but should help to make her a little less roly-poly… Cher will be visiting the vet tomorrow for a complete check up.
March 31, 2014 – Cher came in yesterday. She’s 5.5 years but could lose a few lbs. Cher will be visiting the vet this week for a complete check up. Stay tuned for more info on this plumpy girl.
Age: 8 years old
May 7, 2014 – Fritz is going to his forever home this Saturday where he will share his life with a female pug almost his age…(-:
April 29, 2014 – Fritz is calm, sensitive and an extraordinarily gentle dog with a surprisingly goofy side. He is an adorable little guy who likes to lie on his back, wiggling and hope someone; human or dog will take notice and wrestle with him. If one of the resident pugs walks by him he will reach out with his front paws grabbing and gently sinking his gums into his foster brother’s hind leg. However if the other dog won’t play with him he loves to wrestle with a blanket. Fritz does not like being alone and will cozy up with one the resident dogs if there isn’t a human lap to climb onto. Fritz is enjoying a great deal more freedom these days. Although he still doesn’t ask to go outside he has the toilet habits of a mature dog and he doesn’t need to go out any more often than the resident dogs and for more than a week I have been leaving him free in the house while I’m out and he hasn’t had an accident. He just curls up in the dog bed with one of his pals and waits for someone to come home. Fritz will plop himself down right in front of the door if he suspects you might be leaving the house with out him. Although he enjoys his walk Fritz isn’t an outdoorsy dog but he is getting more confident and beginning to explore the yard with his foster brothers. Fritz would make a wonderful addition to a family who likes leisurely walks and lots of cuddles. He gets along well with children and other dogs.
April 17, 2014 – Fritz has undergone an amazing transformation during this last week. Despite being toothless he is now eating kibble mixed with canned food and has developed a pug sized appetite licking the bowl clean before licking the floor around the bowl and then sending me a hopeful look for dessert. Housebreaking is coming along (no more bellyband). Fritz seems to understand that I want him to go when I take him outside but isn’t quite sure how to ask to go out. Since having his teeth removed, he has become more energetic and alert. He has begun playing with stuffed toys and is even gnawing on chew toys. Yesterday he enticed one of his foster brothers to wrestle with him. Fritz can now jump up and down off of the sofa and manages the stairs without hesitation. As being upstairs is still a novelty to him he loves to sniff and investigate every corner especially closets. Fritz we have discovered not only loves sitting in the toy basket, he also loves to climb into laundry baskets and doesn’t seem to mind whether the laundry is clean or dirty.
April 14, 2014 – Fritz loves the duck confit soft food gobbling it up it a way I haven’t seen since I got him. Fritz is doing extremely well. I believe he is feeling better than he has in a long time and I am seeing more and more of his personality everyday. He has a silly side and likes to borough and roll in blankets and pillows which is probably why he likes to climb into and sit in the toy basket. He had two firsts yesterday;playing with a stuffed toy and jumping up on the sofa. He is also glad to have resumed his walks, actually scratching at the door after getting his harness on, telling me to hurry up and let’s go. Fritz is such a sweetie and so gentle he warms the hearts of everyone he meets. If you are interested in adopting this sweet soul, please contact us HERE.
April 7, 2014 – Fritz was neutered this morning and had the remaining five teeth he had removed and is now toothless. His tear values in one eye especially was low so he is now on i-Drops and Optimmune to see if it will help. He is going back to the vet’s for a follow-up next Monday. This beautiful boy will soon be available for adoption.
April 4, 2014 – Fritz or as I like to call him my little shadow is settling in. All this little guy wants is to be loved and to give love. Although his vision is impaired especially his depth perception it didn’t take him long to learn to navigate the area of the house he has access to and he now goes up and down the steps to the family room and outside without hesitation. I have taken him out frequently and he is always happy to put his harness on. He walks well on the leash most of the time trotting along right beside me and is always happy to greet those, people and other dogs we meet on our outings. He is very good in the car as well. He gets along well with the resident pugs and doesn’t mind using them as a pillow. He still protests when put in his crate but he is setting down much more quickly now and then sleeps the rest of the night without a peep. Fritz is getting neutered and is having his teeth cleaned on Monday April 7.
April 1, 2014 – Fritz has severe dental disease. The tartar is so bad we couldn’t even see his teeth. The vet suggested he start antibiotics before having neutering and dental surgeries done. Fritz is also visually impaired. His ears were dirty but no sign of active infection. His heart, lungs, knees are all good as well as his prostate and bladder. His anal glands were very full. He has a suspected lipoma on his front right leg above the elbow joint. He also has an old wound on his left hind leg that hadn’t healed properly so she shaved and cleaned the area and said it should heal just by keeping it clean and dry. His weight is good at 17lbs. He was such a good boy through all the poking and prodding. Fritz will be going to the vet next week to get neutered and get his teeth cleaned. He will soon be available for adoption.
March 31, 2014 – Fritz came in yesterday. He’s a friendly unaltered male pug who enjoys lifting his leg everywhere, that will soon end when he gets neutered…..Fritz is going to the vet later today for a complete check up. Stay tuned for more info on Fritz.
Age: 7 years old
May 1, 2014 – Skippy is going to her forever home this Sunday.
April 7, 2014 – Skippy had a great week and fit right in with all the other resident pugs. She loves going on walks and she walks on leash extremely well. She likes to stay close to us whether we are sitting on the sofa or in the kitchen doing dishes. She is well behaved and always has a wagging tail for everyone she meets. If you are interested in adopting Skippy, please contact us HERE.
March 26, 2014 – Skippy is doing amazingly well since having the stone from her bladder removed and getting spayed. While most of the time she is quite content to just curl up on her pillow or beside you on the couch, this little girl can be quite entertaining and vocal when it’s meal time; also when she realizes you are taking her for a walk. Skippy is good on the leash but still tends to want to stop frequently to try to eliminate but I think this is more of a habit from her bladder issues. Since having her surgery, she has not had an accident in the house and usually goes to the door when wanting out. Skippy is very friendly with anyone she meets and her tail rarely stops wagging. She recently met a few young children and just seemed to enjoy all the attention she was getting. Skippy also seems very friendly when meeting other dogs and she’ll be spending her upcoming week with a few other pugs so we’ll have a better idea on how she interacts with them long term. Skippy is now fully recovered from her surgery and available for adoption so please contact us HERE if you are interested in adopting this sweet little girl.
March 19, 2014 – Skippy is doing great. We’ve been leaving her cone and crate free any time we’re home, even at night and she’s been really good. Skippy can’t wait to go out for walks and she gets excited when she puts her harness to go in the backyard. Skippy is now ready to get adopted, please contact us HERE if you are interested in adopting Skippy.
March 13, 2014 – Skippy has returned from the vet and although a little groggy, she should be feeling much better very soon. Unfortunate for Skippy, she lived for quite a long time with an egg-sized stone in her bladder. This is something that would have been easily detected by a vet and due to the many years left untreated, Skippy’s bladder walls were one inch thick causing only a minute space left to hold any liquid. On a positive note, UMWPR was able to have their vet catch this and treat it. The stone has been sent for analysis in order to rule out any further issues. Skippy was also spayed and had her teeth cleaned (she lost 6 teeth). She will now enjoy running amongst male dogs without feeling their leering stares! Skippy will remain at the vet until this weekend in order to heal under supervision, she will remain on antibiotics and has begun a special vet diet that will assist in her urinary difficulties. Skippy has been able to win over all hearts at the clinic and spends her time lapping up their attention. First on the menu, a giant pee this morning with a huge smile and eyes closed, we are sure this is the best feeling she has felt in years. Skippy has been through quite the ordeal and it is time for her to rest in anticipation of her new beginning. Stay tuned for more info on Skippy.
March 12, 2014 – Skippy is at the vet today to remove a huge stone from her bladder which has obviously been causing her some extreme discomfort. The surgery to remove the stone will be performed alongside her spaying surgery. After a couple of healing days, Skippy will have some bounce back in her step and will begin her new life; a life free of pain and sadness. Skippy will now enjoy the spoils in her foster home and as we learn more about her and her personality, we will be able to determine the perfect forever home for her. If you are interested in meeting Skippy and think you can provide her with a wonderful forever home, please contact us once she’s in the Available for Adoption section.
March 10, 2014 – Skippy was at the vet today and she has a massive stone in her bladder. She will have it removed this Wednesday and will be spayed at the same time. The stone takes almost all the space in her bladder. Update will be posted after the surgery. Despite that, Skippy has a very sweet and happy disposition.
March 9, 2014 – Skippy is a very sweet and friendly pug. She has settled comfortably into her foster home. Skippy had a nice bath & got her nails trimmed and was very calm during everything (and as most pug owners know, getting their nails done can be a challenge but this girl barely even noticed they were getting trimmed). Skippy is pretty laid back most of the time but she did get excited when we went for a walk yesterday and she does have a playful side. She had a pretty good first night and was only up twice but that is probably due to a possible UTI. Skippy is going to the vet today for a complete check & for urine analysis and x-rays of her bladder. Check back soon for more updates on Skippy as we get to know this precious girl better.
March 8, 2014 – Skippy is an owner surrender. She’s 7 years old and she weights 17.7lbs. Skippy is not spayed and she probably had a urinary tract infection or perhaps stones in her bladder. Skippy is very friendly and sweet. She will be going to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up and urine analysis and x-rays. Stay tuned for more info on Skippy.

May 1, 2014 – Chicca has been adopted by her foster dad.
April 27, 2014 – Chicca is having a wonderful time now that Spring has finally truly arrived. She loves to chase a ball around in the yard outside, go for walks, and meet new friends at the dog park. Chicca is a very social dog and she gets along really well with all the other dogs she’s met so far in the neighbourhood. She recently met a 1 year old Golden Retriever at the local dog park and loves to chase balls and run in the grass with him! She still has a lot of spring in her step! During the rest of day she enjoys her naps and just chilling out at home. She loves to sit on my lap on a weekend afternoon and just take a snooze. Please cntact us HERE if you are interested in adopting this beautiful girl.
April 17, 2014 – Chicca is doing very well. She enjoys going for long walks and is the perfect companion for any active person. Chicca is now gone for an Easter Holiday in Newfoundland with her foster dad and will be back on the 24th of April.
April 4, 2014 – Chicca is having a blast! She enjoys getting lots of walks as she has a lot of energy! I typically walk her about three times a day. She gets really excited around any type of ball or ball shaped toy. I have a fenced side yard where I take Chicca in the afternoons and she loves to chase a tennis ball all over the place. I have to be very careful with toys inside, because she she can get too excited and knock things over. Also, Chicca LOVES her food; I have to be careful to keep all human food (and dog food) stored away when not at home. She also loves to nibble on anything that might appear to be food when on her walks, so you have to keep an eye on her. Otherwise, Chicca just loves to hang out and if you put a blanket or a doggy bed anywhere on the floor she will curl up and take a nap. Her favorite place to snooze however, is at your feet or especially on your lap whenever you’re sitting down.
March 26, 2014 – Chicca had her teeth cleaned yesterday and she lost 7. She is doing really really well and enjoys her walks a lot and loves playing with her toys. During the day she likes to take naps or sit on my lap when ever I’m reading or watching tv. She had her urine checked at the vet yesterday and her urinary infection has cleared up completely. She’s taking another nap right now and taking it easy.
March 11, 2014 – Chicca is doing great. Since she has been on antibiotics and special diet (for her urinary tract infection), she has had no accidents and she is extremely proud that she is now allowed free access to the house; in fact this morning I found her on my bed with a stuffed toy which made me laugh as she had to used another piece of furniture first in order to accomplish this feat (none of the other dogs including my own have figured it out, which shows what a smart and determined pug she is). Chicca still has no real interest in the other dogs but has no problem climbing over them to secure her favourite spot on my lap. She is a real people pug. She enjoys her walks, lavishing in the attention the people we meet pay her and doesn`t mind being washed off in the tub after. Chicca is a real cuddly pug but also loves to play and will chase a toy down the hall as long as you have the energy to throw it.
March 7, 2014 – Chicca is a little(23lbs) dog with a big personality. She is a confident, intelligent pug who after checking out every corner of the house she could sniff last night she made herself right at home. She is a lovable, sweet natured girl who has no doubt that everyone loves her. She is a lively girl and very agile and she knows sit and shake a paw. She likes to play but we discovered she does fixate on certain toys especially balls and any kind of light such as a laser pointer. She appears to get along well with her foster siblings except when she is fixated on an object so she needs strong parents to help ease the obsession. She settled right down in her crate last night and I didn’t hear a peep out of her until I got her up in this morning. This sweet girl walks well on the leash however she prefers that we keep to cleared paved pathways. Chicca went to the vet’s this afternoon and was very good in the car and she relished the attention she received. She is suffering from a urinary tract infection and will be on antibiotics for the next two weeks and a special diet for at least the next four weeks. She will also need some dental work once she’s healed from her UTI.
March 6, 2014 – Chicca is very smart, confident, strong willed and a little dominant. She is obsessed with food, looking for a snack any time someone is in the kitchen or hears paper crinkle. She is also obsessive about balls. Needless to say, the ball has been put away. Chicca has showed only a mild interest in other toys so I don’t think there will be a problem with them. She has showed little interest in the resident dogs. She is a little offended that I haven’t given her full run of the house and keeps trying to get into the areas that are blocked off. She needs some boundaries. She is extremely agile and if a chair is left pushed out I have no doubt I would find her on the kitchen table. She does however respond readily to a stern no or off.Chicca has had a couple of accidents but both times it was right at the door so she is totally housetrained just having a little trouble holding it probably due to her urinary tract infection. She went into the crate last night without a problem and I didn’t hear a peep out of her until I got her up this morning.
March 5, 2014 – Chicca is an owner surrender. She is born on June 2, 2007. She’s spayed and will be going to the vet tomorrow for urine analysis ans x-rays as she has blood in her urine. Chicca is very friendly with other dogs and a sweethert with people. Chicca is 22.6lbs. Stay tuned for more info on Chicca.
Age: 4 years old
March 26, 2014 – Chicco is gone to his forever home in the Niagara Falls region.
March 10, 2014 – Chicco went to the vet today for his check-up and rabies vaccination. He weighs a healthy 25 pounds. The vet was impressed by his beautiful fur coat and his healthy weight. It is obvious that Chicco has been well cared for and loved in his past life. He gravitates to people, though he is a little unsure of children that quickly approach him. He will jump back and bark but then seconds later approach them with love and snuggles. Chicco is fully housetrained and will ask to go outdoors. He loves his two walks a day and easily keeps pace with the resident lab. Chicco is the perfect blend of playfulness and cuddliness. He’s a great sleeper and will just wait quietly until you wake up in the morning. He’s an all around fabulous dog that will bring joy to any home lucky enough to have him.
March 6, 2014 – Chicco had a good night. He played a bit with the resident lab but was, for the most part, still exploring his new surrounding. We had him sleep in a kennel in our room last night. Chicco was quiet as a church mouse all night long but he’s still trying to figure things out. We did bring him on a walk this morning with our lab and he was great. He does appear to be housetrained as he goes to the back door and asks to go outside. Chicco is super snuggly and really is a pack animal–he is fitting in super easy with our dogs. He’s respectful and does have a good temperament. He’s an energetic pug and can bounce/jump up on just about anything. Chicco will make a great family dog! Chicco is going to the vet On Monday March 10 for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in his vaccination. He will soon be available for adoption.
March 5, 2014 – Chicco is an owner surrender. He is born on March 7, 2010. Cicco is 25lbs of pure muscle. Chicco is very kind and gentle with other dogs and is a real loverboy. Chicco is neutered and will be brought up to date in his vaccination in the coming week. Stay tuned for more info on Chicco.
Age: 4 years old

March 4, 2014 – Ross seems pretty laid back. He loves chewing on toys and playing with balls. He is good with other dogs.
Ross is sleeping in the big bed and sleeps well through the night. He seems pretty obedient.
He is eating hjis new food very well with herring oil.
March 2, 2014 – Ross is an owher surrender. He’s a heavy boy at almost 38lbs. Ross is gentle with people and good with other dogs. He will go for a complete vet check up today and will soon become available for adoption. Ross is neutered and sleeps very well at night. A picture of Ross will soon be posted.
