BOB

Age: DOB April 22, 2022
Adoption Status:

November 7, 2022 – Bob & Bee have been adopted by their foster mom.
October 31, 2022 – Bob is getting neutered this week.  He and his sister Bee are getting adopted by their long term foster mum.  Both are thriving and are still very bonded.
October 3, 2022 – Puppies had a great week. Bee had a visit to the Cedarview outdoor farmers market. She loves to jump on anything and everything possible.  Bob played hide and seek and was found in the kitchen pantry! Bob is learning how to go down two steps and go up and down the outdoor ramp before winter. They are working on sitting for 10 seconds and coming when prompted. They really enjoyed their playdate with brother Frankie.
August 22, 2022 – Bob and Bee are a one of kind duo who just so happen to share one eye between the two of them now. Bob is 4 days post op bilateral enucleation and is recovering very well. These two puppies are the bravest, easily adaptable and opposite personality puppies. The only thing Bee seems to fear so far is not knowing what’s going on 24/7. Despite only have 1 eye, she is very observative and watches everyone and everything (including TV). Bob, in general, is more relaxed and loves to snuggle. He is already comfortable doing 2 steps of stairs on his own (with some guidance) and knows where his water dish is from memory. Bob seems to really enjoy sleeping on his back and loves having his tummy rubbed. They entertain each other all day and will snuggle next to or on top of each other when it comes to nap time. From the second they wake up, Bee is looking for something to do for the entire day but recently it never seems to fail that once it is around 8:30pm, she is maxed out of energy and could sleep through anything. They both love everyone and do the cutest “zoomies” when outside and playing with their current big stepbrother Zeus (yellow lab). They are perfect angels overnight and will sleep through the night in their own crates at this time. Both have made many trips to the ophthalmologist so far and have adjusted very well to car rides and busier environments. Currently, they both know how to sit, and we are working on how to sit and stay. Once outside, they both go to the washroom right away, although sometimes Bee must run around for a bit from pure excitement before going.  They are still currently being house trained with the occasional accident in the house but overall are doing a great job. Bee is more advanced when it comes to walks. They both are accustomed to harnesses and are learning how to go on a walk. It is a bit more of a challenge for Bob at the moment but given how fast he has adjusted to everything so far, we are hopeful he will grasp the concept soon enough. These two cuties rely on each other for entertainment, support and comfort.

August 5, 2022
– Bob’s surgery at the end of June consisted of a corneal graft on each eye.  After a very intense schedule of eye drops and care by two very special and caring vet technicians, Bob’s left eye is healed.  Bob is still receiving eye care on his right eye as it is healing slower.  Bob has some peripheral vision with hopes that additional healing will improve his vision overall. Bob has another recheck in a couple of weeks.
Bob and Bee have recently had their second set of vaccinations.  Both are progressing well and are an appropriate weight for their age.  Bob and Bee were given a dewormer the day after their vaccines.  Bob and Bee are smart and sassy at the same time.  They both know the sit and stay command.  Bee has perfected going up a small fight of stairs but is hesitant to come down them on her own.  Bob on the other hand hasn’t braved the stairs yet.
The puppies are full of energy and require lots of play time to develop their muscles and skills.  Bob has mastered finding the waterfall dish to drink out of.  He relies on his hearing to find his sister Bee as well.  He does run into stuff but under a watchful eye we help him avoid causing any further damage to his eyes.
When they have exhausted themselves from playing with toys, chewing on bully sticks or playing with each other they do enjoy a nice long nap.  They are currently sleeping in separate crates during the day and overnight to protect their eyes.  They sleep through the night and are not messing in their crates. There is still the odd accident in the house but when outside they understand “do your business”, of course followed by lots and lots of praise.
Bob and Bee are bonded and will be adopted together.  We will be very selective in choosing the home that Bob and Bee spend the rest of their lives in. Their home will need to be pug proofed.  Stairs will need to be blocked to prevent these puppies from falling down stairs with their poor eyesight.  Extra care will need to be taken inside and outside of the home to ensure the risk to their eyes is minimized.

July 12, 2022 – Bob & Bee are doing extremelly well, they eat and play like all normal puppies should.  They will soon be able to get their cone collar off.

July 1, 2022 – Bob and Bee had a following up appointment with their eye specialist yesterday morning and she was very pleased with what she seen during the exam. Bee will recovery quicker that Bob, but Bob is a being a little trooper and is handling his recovery very well at this point. They are both on some relaxants to “try” and keep them calm along with some pain management meds and eye drops, lots of eye drops! This sweet pair will require eye drops for the remainder of their lives. Their eyes will be reexamined this coming Monday to ensure that the healing process in coming along as it should. Bob and Bee are NOT AVAILABLE for adoption anytime soon. They will not leave the rescue until Bob has been neutered and Bee has been spayed.  Thank you so much to those that have donated to their medical fund. If you are interested in donating you can send an etransfer to undermywingpugrescue@gmail.com ($25 gets you a tax receipt, please include your address in the notes section) or via CanadaHelps, who will issue you a tax receipt on our behalf.

June 30, 2022 *****************UPDATE: Bob and Bee had their surgery today. They are awake and recovering well. Bob had a graft in each eye and wee Bee unfortunately had to have her right eye removed. Good news for Bee is she didn’t require surgery on her left eye as the ulcer has healed. Tomorrow we will provide a more detailed update after their follow up exam in the morning! Thank you all for keeping this sweet pair in your thoughts and prayers!

June 28, 2022 – Bob & Bee arrived yesterday.  They both are born with eye problems, corneal ulcers.  They have seen an ophtalmologist this afternoon and both have surgery schedule for tomorrow.  More to come after the surgeries.  Bob & Bee are sibblings and they are born on April 22, 2022.

COOPER

Age: 4
Adoption Fees: $500
Adoption Status:

June 27, 2022 – Cooper and Zoey are gone to their forever home together.  Long life to these 2 beautiful lambs.

June 20, 2022 – Copper arrived yesterday from Owen Sound.  He was surrendered to a vet clinic who called us to see if we could take him.  Cooper is 4 years old and he is neutered.  He is very bonded to Zoey, the female pug who came with him.  Cooper is going to the vet this Wednesday for a complete check up.  Cooper along with Zoey have already found their forever home.

GUNNER

Age: 2
Adoption Fees: $750
Adoption Status:

June 4, 2022 – Gunner is gone to his forever family.  He will share his life with a 2 year old male pug and 2 young respectful kids.  Happy life sweet Gunner !!
May 18, 2022 – The time has come for Gunner to find his forever home.  This little darling will be a little shy with you at first, but give him a couple of days to get his bearings and wait for his sweet and silly personality to come out.  Gunner will adapt quickly, especially with one or more young fur siblings, he is a very smart boy and would LOVE to get some play time and wrestling with another young energetic dog.
Gunner knows how to “sit”, “stay” & “gentle”.
Like all pugs, Gunner does not like to let his people out of his sight. He will do well crated if left alone, or overnight although his foster mom lets him sleep in the big bed on the weekends and Gunner LOOOOVES this most of all.
He is a happy boy from morning to night and enjoys his three walks a day, sometimes too much and has shown interest in chasing rabbits, squirrels and even cars!  Gunner knows when we walk with the resident pug, we have to be mindful, and understands “slow down”.  Gunner needs a fenced back yard, he has a lot of pent up zoomies to get out!  This guy should never be let off leash until he is older and more responsible.  We don’t call him Gunner the runner for nothing!  Gunner is eating raw food and we has been since he is a puppy so we would like to find a family commited to feeding raw food as he is doing very well on it.  Despite being so energetic, Gunner is also a big cuddler, but needs to work on his manners sometimes and wait to be invited on someone’s lap.  Overall, Gunner is a goofy little love bug and we will be sad to see him go.

May 3, 2022
– Gunner’s veterinary exam went well.  Gunner had one dose of Strongid last Saturday, his next dose is due today.  He has started Advantix yesterday.  He is just the sweetest boy, we love having him.  Gunner has become very comfortable with us and continues to be a joy!  His favorite thing to do is chew/fetch his toys.  Gunner will be going shopping for some sturdier toys; we had to say goodbye to his hedgehog after he chewed a hole in the fabric.  Gunner has come a long way in the short period of time we have known him.  Initially, he refused to go down the stairs at the vet clinic but now, no problem.  Gunner is still timid with strangers, but has started to come out of his shell more and more.  His tail is usually almost always wagging.  Gunner stays in his crate overnight without any issues.  He is always happy to see his foster mom in the morning and excited to get outside for his walk.  Gunner is still working on his manners.  He is extremely food motivated and learns quickly. The only thing Gunner does not seem to like is…car rides.  He will runs to the door when he knows his foster mom is leaving for work and jumps in the back seat willingly but cries a bit after the car starts moving.  Gunner continues to try to make friends with the resident pug and seems genuinely happy when we have encountered other dogs on our walks.  This happy little boy would love to have some younger fur brother or sister to cuddle and play with.  Despite Gunner’s obvious charms, he has not been able to persuade the resident pug to do either, however, he did share a brief snuggle with the resident shih tzu.  Gunner is just the sweetest little pug overall and would be a great addition to any active family.

April 20, 2022 – We are enjoying getting to know Little Gunner.  He is a feisty Boy and super smart!  After only one day of accidents he started to let us know when he needed to go out by circling and barking and heading to the door. Gunner has a lot of energy.  Even after three walks a day he could still play for hours.  He LOVES to play fetch with his stuffies and although the resident Pug seems interested in joining, this has not happened yet despite Gunner’s encouragement.  Gunner seems very comfortable with the humans in his foster home but a little leary of strangers.  He has been going to work with his foster mom at the vet clinic all week so far and doing great.  Gunner is not a fan of the car but has managed the short daily car ride very well.  We are working on Gunner’s manners and behavior in the house.  This is pretty easy, he is already used to the schedule here and oh yeah did I mention he is super smart? After a disagreement regarding sleep time vs play time, Gunner went back to sleeping in his crate with no issue. If he doesn’t like something (car, crate, humans shutting the bathroom door) he tends to be a bit vocal at first, but stops quickly. Gunner is easy to love and easy to please.  He would do well with younger dogs and a big fenced backyard, we have started calling him Gunner the Runner those long legs make him the fastest pug.  Gunner will be seen by the vet soon, and continues to be a joy to look after.

April 16, 2022 – Gunner came in yesterday.  He is born on February 29, 2022 so he is just over 2 years old.  Gunner is as easy going as he is adorable!  He has gone from being the only dog to sharing space with two others with little incident.  He ate his dinner and breakfast with true pug enthusiasm, walked like a pro on his leash and spent the night in the big bed with his foster mom and the resident pug.  Gunner is very curious about the other dogs, and has tried to initiate play with both of them.  His energy level would be well suited with younger dogs.  Gunner has had a couple of accidents in the house while adjusting.  Gunner goes into his crate willingly, without protest.  For such a huge change in his life, Gunner has taken everything in stride.  This little charmer will steal your heart!  Gunner will go to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up, blood work and to get microchipped.  He is neutered and up to date in his vaccination until mid July 2022. Stay tuned for more on this sweet boy as we get to know him better.

ASIA

Age: 6 1/2 years old
Adoption Fees: $600
Adoption Status:

March 25, 2022 – Asia is gone to her forever home.

March 18, 2022 – Asia is recovering from her dental that took place last week.  She lost 10 teeth during the procedure and had the rest scaled and polished.  She has a couple more days of softened food and is most disappointed she can’t shake and chew her stuffy toys.  Asia is fully vetted now and is now ready for her forever home.  Asia will need to be on Urinary SO kibbles & soft food for the remainder of her life as a result of the huge bladder stone she had removed in her first surgery.   The other lifetime medical requirement will be a prescription of Propalin.  She currently requires this syrup 3 times per day to control her leaky bladder she developed after her spaying surgery.  Otherwise, Asia is an easy going girl.  Loves to sleep under the covers on the cooler nights and no issue letting you know what she wants. She likes her bed in the morning and is in no rush to get out of bed.

February 14, 2022 – Asia has fully recovered from her spaying surgery.  She developed a complication which caused her to leak urine. She was tested to ensure no UTI was present, the results came back clear.  The vet believes the leaking issue was a result of the bladder (huge stone removed 6 weeks prior) being manipulated during her spay surgery.  The course of treatment has been stilbestrol for 5 days and followed by 1 tablet a week for 5 weeks.  The vet feels Asia will recover fully without the need for further treatment.  After 5 days of the medication, there has been no more leakage. Asia was microchipped during her spay and will have her vaccines updated tomorrow.  The last procedure for Asia will be a dental and then she will be ready for her forever home!  Asia has a great spirit!  She enjoys a good snuggle and likes to be close.  She can be a little barky at times but knows that behavior will not be tolerated when told to stop. She has been enjoying the milder weather and likes to sniff the backyard and enjoying the fresh air.  Asia has been learning that nail trims are not the end of the world and is behaving better each week as they are trimmed. Asia loves her stuffy toys and like to have a game of fetch with them.  In true pug style, her absolute favourite things are treats, naps and snuggles!

January 24, 2022 – Asia is doing very well.  The results are in from her cystotomy, Asia’s bladder stone was of struvite composition.  This means that she will need prescription diet Urinary SO to prevent future occurrences for the remainder of her life.  Asia is having her spay surgery this Friday, January 28.  Here is hoping for a complication free surgery and speedy recovery.  In typical pug style Asia is far from being a fan of the cold weather that we have been experiencing.  Thankfully, she listens well and obeys the “go do your business” command and heads straight to the house once the mission is accomplished.  Asia is completely housetrained and has great holding capabilities. Asia is becoming more accustom to noises around the house and is not running to hide but is staying a safe distance away and being curious.  This wee girl loves a good snuggle under the blankets and if not under the blankets pressed tight against your body for some comfort. She also snores like a freight train. She absolutely loves to sleep between your legs, under or on top of the covers.   Asia gets along well with her foster siblings but would also do well as an only pug as she loves to be the center of attention.  Please keep Asia in your thoughts this coming Friday.

January 5, 2022 – Asia has completely recovered, complication free from having her large bladder stone removed.  There is no doubt she is feeling so much better without the 1” x 2” stone causing pressure and irritation to her bladder. She is already showing an improvement in holding her urine.  One of Asia favorite things to do is sleep under the covers in the big bed until she gets to warm and is then happy to come out and tuck herself close to your body.  We discovered that she isn’t a fan of the vacuum and actual had a pee accident on the floor.  We are working on overcoming this fear and continue to expose her to other noises to build her confidence.   Asia has started to entertain herself with stuffy toys, so cute to watch!   We have booked Asia’s dental and spaying surgeries about 6 weeks apart to allow sufficient time to heal from each procedure.  Asia will not be available for adoption until mid-March.  Asia sends pug kisses and thanks you all for your continued support and following her story

December 16, 2021 – Asia is a sweet girl, very easy going and gets along perfect with her pug roommates.  Asia is doing much better with a week of twice daily antibiotics in her system.  She has stopped peeing pus and no longer has blood in her urine.  She does however still require frequent trips out to do her business as her bladder isn’t able to hold much urine.  We are hopeful that after surgery (Dec 20) and the healing process that she can extend her retention frequency.  Asia is adjusting well to Urinary SO kibble but seems to enjoy her evening meal more that her morning one.  We discovered that Asia could do a high five for treats, followed by a sit if not too excited.  She tends to beg at the table while the humans enjoy their meals, but we are working on that.  We have started some short walks, but Asia gets somewhat concerned the further we get away from the house.  We feel that this will get better with time as she overcomes her insecurities and continues to build her confidence.  So far, Asia isn’t showing much interest in playing with toys but when encouraged, she will play for a short period of time.  She has no interest in entertaining herself with a toy at this point.  We went for a longer car ride on the weekend and Asia did well, she had no issue curling up in a dog bed for a nice nap in the sun.  Asia doesn’t seem to be a fan of cats, or at least ones that roam freely in the neighborhood. Asia will have her cystotomy this coming  Monday to remove her large bladder stone.  Please send her positive vibes for a speedy recovery.

December 8, 2021 – Asia was timid and unsure of her new surroundings when she first came into rescue. She had accidents in the first 24 hours but has settled into a good routine and no recent accidents to speak of. Asia does require frequent trips outside to empty her bladder as it is filled by a huge stone. She has had 3 doses of antibiotics and is showing some improvement with bladder control.
Asia has settled in nicely, enjoy naps in a comfy bed. Asia is crate trained and doesn’t make a peep
when inside her crate. She is currently sleeping in an xpen overnight until her bladder issue is resolved.
Again, not a peep once we are settle in for the night. She has a fondness for a treat when she comes back inside from doing her business, performs a little dance and is quiet happy with just a tiny bit. Asia has been placed on a special diet – Urinary SO, to help with her condition; she isn’t crazy about the new food,
but with a little topper of canned Urinary SO, she finds it more palatable.
Asia gets along great with the resident pugs and vice versa. She seems to travel well in a vehicle so far,
but we haven’t tried any great distance. We will start daily walks when she starts feeling better. Asia is a petite wee girl and seems to have sensitive feet to the snow and cold! Yes, she is a pug, bring on the I may freeze drama. Stay tuned for weekly updates as we get to know this girl better and learn more of her personality.

December 7, 2021 – Asia came in last night.  Due to no fault of hers, she was surrendered to us.  Asia is a petite 6 1/2 years girl.  She went to the vet this morning and xrays showed stones in her bladder.  Asia has been put on Clavamox for 14 days – her surgery is scheduled for December 20.  Asia is a nice girl who gets along well with other dogs.  Asia is not spayed but we will take care of that once she has recovered from her stone removal surgery.

JOHN

Age: 14 months
Adoption Fees: $750
Adoption Status:

November 28, 2021 – John is doing very well, he has learned a lot during the past 2 weeks.  John has been brought up to date in his vaccination and has been microchipped.  We are happy to announce that John is going to his forever home this Tuesday.  He will become a GTA resident.

November 22, 2021 – John seems to be feeling fine these days. He is continuing to find his place in the pack with the resident dogs, and is starting to feel more relaxed among the family. John is very playful but is yet to show his snuggly side on regular basis. He is very smart and will need extensive attention and basic training, to avoid his curiosity from turning into mischief. John will be best fit with a family with or without children, who have a lot of experience with training and have the patience to properly socialize him.

November 10, 2021 – John came in last night.  He is born on September 3, 2020 and he is neutered.  John is going to the vet this afternoon as he swallowed something in plastic and we think it is stuck inside as he has blood coming out of his bum and he is having a hard time to eliminate.  John is an active boy who seems to have had very little interaction with other dogs.  Stay tuned for more info on this nice boy after his initial vet visit.

NANA

Age: 8
Adoption Fees: $500
Adoption Status:

October 26, 2021 – Unfortunately, Nana passed away after going to the vet because she wasn’t eating.  The vet performed a surgery to remove 15cm of dead small intestine and our sweet girl didn’t make it. RIP sweet Nana.

October 12, 2021 – Nana has been feeling much better this past week and has almost gained full control of her bladder showing she is house trained. She is asking to play fetch with the ball, and sometimes plays tag with her foster siblings. Nana still tires very quickly even on short walks due to her breathing difficulties. This also means her breathing is quite noisy just walking around the house, unless she is has been at rest for a few minutes. Nana can often be found snuggling with her foster sister, and loves to follow her foster family through the house.

October 4, 2021 – Nana had a surgery to remove several stones in her bladder and she was also spayed.  We have decided to go ahead with the stone removal surgery sooner as she was in bad discomfort and most likely pain.  The procedures went very well and she is back to her foster family for a smooth recovery.  A biopsy of her bladder has been sent for analysis.

September 30, 2021 – At 21 pounds, Nana has been working hard at getting herself back to a healthier weight. Today she walked the farthest stretch yet, enjoying the benefit of making it to the edge of the nature trail. She has completed her round of antibiotics to treat a UTI so her urgency has greatly reduced, but she is still struggling with her bladder control and blood in her urine. It is a pleasure to see Nana starting to play with balls and the other dogs more regularly. Nana will be having a surgery October 4 to remove the stones in her bladder and provide more relief of her symptoms. Nana prefers to be next to her humans and fur friends instead of being alone.

September 17, 2021 – Nana came in yesterday.  She is 8 years old and not spayed.  Nana went to the vet yesterday afternoon as she has had blood in her urine for several months.  The vet took xrays and saw numerous stones in her bladder.  Before we can think of having those surgically removed, Nana will need to lose 2kg.  Despite her health condition, Nana is in good spirit and she is super nice and friendly.  She settled well for her night.  Stay tuned for more on Nana in the coming week.

BUTTERS – HOSPICE PUG

Age: 12
Adoption Fees: Hospice Pug
Adoption Status:

June 19, 2023 – Butters was euthanized this morning as his quality of life failed in the past months.  He was having chronic UTI and had almost completely lost the usage of his hind legs.  We have made the very hard decision to let him go, he was surrounded with his loving foster mum.

March 6, 2023 – Butters has had a difficult winter and at times we’ve questioned if it was closer to his time to cross the rainbow bridge. We noticed he was more anxious and panting again, as well as drinking and peeing a lot. His thyroid levels had increased again, so his medications were adjusted. That adjustment did help normalize his levels and improved his symptoms.  The other issue has been worsening myelopathy. His back end function has deteriorated and he does require assistance outside and at times around the house. He has had increased stool and urinary incontinence that goes along with this progression.  Despite these things, he loves playing with his puppy pal who he lives with, enjoys his food, and loves lying at my feet. I still feel he has quality of life when I watch him, but I keep a close eye to make sure he isn’t uncomfortable. It is always a difficult decision to make, but we have been lucky to have Butters with us for almost two years, and feel we will know and he will tell us when it is time.

August 5, 2022 – Butters has been enjoying the summer so far. Relaxing at home in the yard, going for short strolls, and having spa vacations at Casa Donnie.  His thyroid has been stable with medications. His back end has been giving him more trouble at times especially when more active. He needs help getting up the two deck steps in the yard now.  He continues to have a good appetite. His food was recently switched and we have found he is pooping inside less often now. Overall he remains his happy self with his teddy bear face and perfect tail curl

June 13, 2022 – Bring on the sunshine! Butters is loving lounging in the backyard now that milder temps are here. Sometimes he will bark at little critters passing by while he watches from inside the patio doors.  He is moulting these days. There are tufts of hair everywhere, but such is the pug life! He sailed through his dental surgery and has been feeling pretty well overall. His appetite is good and he is still hopeful that the toddler might drop scraps.

Butters continues to have good and bad days with his hind end. He remains on Metacam for comfort. He still has bowel movements in his bed overnight, but we try to keep on top of things during the day.  This sweet guy is just enjoying life day by day currently. I will be sure to take some photos outside on the next sunny day

May 4, 2022 – Bring on the sunshine! Butters is loving lounging in the backyard now that milder temps are here. Sometimes, he will bark at little critters passing by while he watches from inside the patio doors.  Butters sailed through his dental surgery and has been feeling pretty well overall.

February 14, 2022 – Butters has been holding his own for the most part, but we have needed to adjust his thyroid medications to keep his levels in control. He is booked for dental surgery on February 23. Otherwise he keeps a fairly quiet lifestyle – relaxing most of the day. He enjoys napping, getting pets and occasionally barking at things passing by in the backyard.

Butters still loves to eat! He hasn’t been so keen on the cold weather and I think he looks forward to warmer days in the backyard. For now he prefers the dog bed or curling up at my feet.
His ears can get bothersome, so we clean them regularly. He is mainly incontinent of stool, so daily clean ups are required. He urinates outside if let out frequently with a rare accident in the house here and there.
He continues to be very sweet with occasional glimpses of his pug spunk
January 6, 2022 – Butters enjoyed Christmas with us. He got a new toy, as we have found that he does enjoy a good play every now and then. He did find going to another house during the holiday a bit stressful. As long as he had company, he was okay. He wouldn’t have liked being left alone or crated during the visit though.
His thyroid levels have come down with adjustments to his medication. We are aiming to get it down a bit further in hopes that he might be able to get his teeth cleaned. His breath could peel paint on the walls!
Butters has a good appetite and enjoys his day to day activities. He is endlessly patient with our kids and he really is a gem.
December 6, 2021 – We are a little less active outside with the colder weather these days. Butters finds the footing a bit more challenging, but has mostly been okay going in and out to the backyard. We still have daily pickups of poop in the house, but I can tell he wants to be able to get outdoors.
He is a very food motivated boy. We wishes he could eat people food and other treats, but has done very well on his weight maintenance food.
He has calmed down significantly with his thyroid levels in better control and feeling secure here. We haven’t seen the same anxiety as when he arrived and he does better in the car (but shorter trips are still best).
For now we are in status quo and keep a simple routine. He still get his blood checked every 3-4 weeks to monitor his thyroid and otherwise he is enjoying a quiet lifestyle (aside from noisey kids!).

October 12, 2021 – Butters has been enjoying our day to day routine and feels at home here. He enjoys short walks around the neighborhood and romps in the backyard. He is very gentle with everyone and my infant daughter adores him. She is even trying to say Butters.  He gets a bit anxious if his routine is thrown off, but this has improved overall thanks to his medications. We have been increasing his dose of thyroid medications and have started seeing some improvement in the numbers.

Butters remains on a weight management diet and has a good appetite. His weight has stabilized now. He continues to drink more water, but this has decreased from when he first came. He is not incontinent of urine and is good about asking to go outside.  He remains incontinent of stool, but tries his best to get to the door when he can.
We continue to see the vet regularly to check his thyroid levels and otherwise ensure he is comfortable. We use a daily dose of Metacam for this, as he does have difficulties with his back end especially if he has had more active day.

June 29, 2021 – Butters is currently finishing up a second antibiotic for an ear infection, and his ears look good on recheck.  Unfortunately his thyroid levels are still very high with his most recent blood work.  He enjoys bring active, but is limited by his weak hind end. He is able to zip around the yard and go on short walks, but is unable to go up stairs (more than 1 or 2). We have done a trial of Metacam to ensure he is comfortable.  He has a good appetite and is eager to eat at mealtimes.  He is doing well on his W/D kibbles. He drinks more than average and requires more frequent trips outside. He still struggles with bowel incontinence, but we just clean up and carry on. He is less fond of going outside in the rain – typical pug in that way!  He is a sweet pug with a kind heart, and he is a pleasure to have in our home.

June 9, 2021 – Butters has really settled well into our routine here. He loves being around people and relaxing at their feet. He still remains quite attached to me in particular.  He has a funny and cute habit of gathering my shoes in his bed to cuddle with. He does not damage the shoes at all. Currently I count 4 of my shoes in the dog bed (no one else’s shoes – just mine).  Butters has done well with his transition to a weight management diet. He does not feel his bowel movements until they are happening. During the day, I can often tell the signs and whisk him outside, but he will frequently be incontinent overnight. There will be a trail starting at his bed and going to the door, as he does not have warning.  Butters still has some anxiety with traveling, but has done much better with his last few trips. He is good in the car, but his breathing does become quite laboured. If we blast the a/c and keep him close to us, he does fine in the car.  I feel he has lost weight as I did tighten his harness. He went to the vet to have his blood work repeated today and we will know the results in a few days.

May 31, 2021 – It took this wee boy a few days to recover after the vet, but Butters is back to his baseline. He is eating well again and is not stressed when at home and in a regular routine. He will sometimes get a bit anxious when I am in another part of the house as he likes to be close to me.  He settles and just sleeps if I go out for longer periods though. We have noticed he has a raspy bark when he does try to call for us or when excited. At times he can have a little of trouble settling down. He paces a bit and pants.
Butters gets along well with the resident dog and children. He is hopeful they will drop food at the table, but we are keeping a close eye to make sure he isn’t getting anything.
May 24, 2021 – Butters went to the vet, he weights 24.5lbs.  His thyroid level are a bit high so we will be monitoring that and Butters has a recheck at the vet on June 8.  Butters had bilateral ear infection that is actually being treated with antibiotics.  He seems to have elongated soft palate and narrow nostrils.  We will see how he will be once he drops a few kg.
May 17, 2021 – Butters just came in yesterday.  He was surrendered as his owners didn’t have time for him anymore.  Butters looks like a big teddy bear and seems very sweet. He was quite anxious on arrival and was panting quite a bit. He was exhausted and did settle after a time when set up with a soft bed and some water.
He seems much more comfortable with us now. He is my little shadow and looks hopeful about coming up on the couch.  He spends most of his time at my feet. He definitely loves his pets.
Butters didn’t eat last night, but took breakfast today. He ate fairly slowly – I think he may have some difficulty chewing related to his teeth.
He drinks quite a lot of water and is having issues with urinary incontinence/dribbling. I
have been taking him out frequently and I think he is housetrained, but we are using belly bands.
He dribbles intermittently and was soaked through in the morning. He is unable to lift his legs to urinate, so will stand or walk and pee.
We have noticed he has weak hind end.  He can walk around, but struggles with sudden direction changes or if objects are in the way. He has difficulty getting up from sitting/lying at times. His legs will splay in front on him and he kind of spins around when seated. He will drag one leg at times when walking. He has managed 1-2 steps outside, but do not feel comfortable trying a flight of stairs at present. I think the combination of excess weight are making things more difficult for him. He will be seeing the vet this Friday for a complete check up and blood work.
Now that he is more comfortable, I notice that he barks at sights and sounds outside. We will see if this improves as he adjusts to his new surroundings. I think he would try to hump the resident dog if he was physically able to do so.
Butters seems sweet with some underlying spunk, so I’m sure more of his personality will begin to emerge as he settles in.

BUBBAH

Age: 10
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

November 3, 2020 – Bubbah has gone to his forever home, he will be sharing his life with a stay at home mom and a 9 year old pug X buddy.

October 28, 2020 – Bubbah is back with his foster family.  His adoption didn’t work out. Bubbah is a very good boy but he doesn’t like to be left alone in the house.  He doesn’t have separation anxiety, he is rather insecure and we are sure that in the right home and with an adoptive family who will be patient with him, he will thrive and will eventually learn to become a more secure boy.  Ideally, his forever home is a person, a couple or a family where there is someone almost always home.  Bubbah will howl and pace when he is left alone.  He is non destructive at all but he is clearly not happy to be left behind.  Like lots of pugs, Bubbah want to be with his human everywhere they go in the house.  He is a dream dog on walks and his recall is amazing.  If you think you can offer Bubbah a loving forever home, please submit your adoption application.

September 21, 2020 – Bubbah is recovering very well from his dental surgery. After the last update Bubbah started to play with a few different toys. One was a stuffy and the other was a ball. Bubbah loves to go on short walks and is very good on the leash. He loves to be around the lake and will always listen when he is being called, Bubbah enjoys his car rides and having the window down so the wind can blow in his face. Bubbah still chases the resident cat when he sees him. Bubbah loves to be home with people and will follow you around the house. When we do have to go out, Bubbah is a very good boy and will lay close to the door and wait very patiently for you to come back. Bubbah is still drinking from the bathtub, instead of the water dish. Bubbah is a quiet dog that is looking to be spoiled and loved. He is more of a mommy’s boy and will stay close to the female of the house. He likes to sit on the couch beside me and sleep right beside me in bed at night.

September 11, 2020 – If Bubbah was not always following me around I would forget that were fostering him. He is a very quiet easy going pug and will paw at the door if he needs to go out. Bubbah loves to hang out with me. If I am sitting on the couch watching tv, he is by my side with his head resting on me or him laying on me. If I ma sewing he is laying by my feet waiting patiently for me to finish.
As soon as you start to talk to him, you will notice his tail starting to wag, he loves when you talk to him. Bubbah is great on walks, he listens, walks well and does not pull on the leash.
Bubbah has been great around small children, he will pretty much leave them alone. He tries to chase and will bark when he sees the cat. I have not seen him have any interest in toys or dog chews. Bubbah loves to sleep with you through the night and will try and wait patiently for you in the morning to feed him. Bubbah has now been transitioned to raw food and is eating it very well. We are still working on training Bubbah to drink out of a water bowl opposed to the bath tub. Bubbah is getting his teeth cleaned on September 17.

June 8, 2020 – Bubbah is a happy boy.  He loves the outdoor and frolicking in the water.  This sweet boy LOVES kids too.  He has lost 700g in the past 2 weeks and is slowly going to reach his healthy weight with regular walks and limited food intake.  Bubbah is waiting for the veterinarian to start doing medical procedure to get his teeth cleaned.

May 25, 2020 – Bubbah is doing very well.  He loves the outdoors and his walks.  Bubbah is fostered with 2 dogs and he has no problems sharing his life with them.  We discovered that Bubbah likes to be in the water up to hit shoulders and he has a very good recall.  He also LOVES kids.  More on Bubbah in the coming weeks.

May 19, 2020 – Bubbah was surrendered by his owner.  He’s a solid 10 year old boy.  Bubbah is up to date in his vaccination and he will need his teeth cleaned as soon as the veterinary clinics start medical procedures.  Bubbah is 29.7lbs, he needs to lose 7lbs to reach his healthy weight.  Bubbah is a sweet soul who gets along very well with other dogs and kids.  He is quite active for his size.  Stay tuned for more on Bubbah.

ARIANA

Age: 1
Adoption Fees: $575
Adoption Status:

March 5, 2020 – Ariana & Emma are gone to their forever home together..(:

February 25, 2020 – Emma and Ariana are wonderful roommates.  They’ve adapted to the household schedule and understand that barking is not allowed inside.  A semi-detached home would be suitable as long as they have a backyard.  Both girls have lots of pent up zoomies to release. They learn very quickly, we’ve been working on manners this week.  Thankfully they love their liver treats and are very food motivated as most Pugs are.  Emma is more reserved, Ariana is very enthusiastic about almost everything except meeting other dogs while on her leash.  They are by my side wherever I go, but will entertain themselves or lie down and cuddle together when I’m occupied.  Both girls have been sleeping in the big bed all night and they wait to be lifted down every morning.  Ariana snores and Emma likes to sleep under the covers.  These sweethearts will melt your heart and keep you smiling.

February 20, 2020 – Ariana is doing really well  with her ‘toilet training’.  She is the active one, always looking to play and following me everywhere in typical Pug fashion.  Ariana LOVES to run through the snow like a Husky.  She is very attached to her Sister, they groom each other and love to cuddle.  Ariana and Emma are enjoying their walks and get very excited when I put on their harnesses.  They understand ‘walk’, ‘no’ and ‘bed’.  We are going to work on some other basic commands this week now that Ariana is getting better at going outside to do her business.  She may relapse during the transition to her forever home so patience is required.  They would love a backyard and young humans to play with.  Never a dull moment with these two, they are as entertaining as they are adorable.

February 17, 2020 – Ariana & Emma have settled in over the past two weeks. They’ve progressed from being very noisy and excited when we leave the house to calm and quiet. At least until we get home and they become very animated, bouncing and chirping around to greet us!  Both girls are energetic and need active play. They particularly enjoy a good game of tug-of-war or tag in the backyard. Both Ariana & Emma love to interact with each other and other dogs and children—Emma takes the lead and instigates play with Ariana standing back to assess the situation before joining the fun.  Ariana & Emma are crate trained. While they prefer to be on the human bed to snuggle at night, they are comfortable in their crate for the night so long as they are together. They cuddle one another throughout the night and aren’t out of each other’s sight much during the day. They also love to be your shadow.

Emma is fully house trained and will use a pee pad if she can’t get outside. Ariana is making progress but continues to have some accidents inside. Getting these girls outside multiple times a day avoids any accidents and both are eager to get back inside to be rewarded with a liver treat. Ariana & Emma will soon be looking for a forever home with an active family who can keep up with their high-energy levels!

February 4, 2020 – Emma and Ariana had a good week. Ariana is really good at letting me do her ear drops. We got lots of walks in and currently working on teaching them to walk side by side.  Ariana had a tough week with house training, we are working on this.. This weekend she’s done well but had been out quite a bit in the yard. Neither like to do their business on walks.  Did a trial separation this weekend for a few hours at a time.  Neither liked to be left alone. The one that got to be with me in the back of the house in the sunroom did settle down and slept. Ariana had more difficultly being without Emma. When I leave the house to go out, they settle quite quickly and are excited when I return. Conclusion- both don’t like to be without a person.

January 28, 2020 – Ariana & Emma have been in heaven running in the backyard, they were especially happy when the boys next door came to the fence to pet them. These two love children and love to play. Inside they were very curious and sniffed around the house. I let them out every couple of hours and we even got two nice long walks in. They played with their toys and chased each other around. Adriana likes to clean Emma. They are never far apart and always sleep next to each other. No accidents all day. They don’t like you out of sight. No accidents through the night. Both go in and out easily. Today, while I was at work, there was no accidents and they were happy when I got home to take them for a walk. Emma is a bit skittish and the vocal one, barks a bit when she hears a noise but stops when you tell her no.

January 25, 2020 – Ariana & Emma were surrendered by her owner who didn’t have time for them.  Ariana is 1 year old and she is spayed.  She is a little bit overweight so we will be working on a reduced food intake and regular walks. Ariana is going to the vet this afternoon for a complete check up, to be brought up to date in her vaccination and to get microchipped.
