DANTE

Age: 4
Adoption Fees: 400
Adoption Status:

March 14, 2017 – Dante is gone to his forever home in Chatham…(:

February 28, 2017 – Dante enjoys his walks, if the weather cooperates, we go for 7km a day.  We introduced him to bigger dogs, he wanted to play but they weren’t interested.  He accepted it well and was happy to run alongside them.  Dante is now eating 1/2 cup twice a day.  Dante has met children, he got excited, jumped up and settled quickly when they bent down to greet him.  Dante is a very happy boy who LOVES to walk, play with family members and loves to cuddle.  His recall is pretty good, we have tried off leash secure parks and he stays fairly close, within sigh and responds well when called.  If you are interested in adopting Dante, please submit your Adoption Application form.  We are looking for an active family who will have time to go for long walks with him every day.

February 19, 2017
– Dante has settled into his foster home extremely well. He is satisfied with his reduced food portion. When offered a treat, he takes it from your hand very gently. He shows no food aggression. He pulls when walking on a leash and walks very quickly. He enjoys several walks a day and loves to play in the snow.  He loves to play with his toys. He like to play ball with his humans and play with his Kong if it has a kibble in it.  Dante loves to lay on the floor especially the rug by the door where it is sunny. He loves to cuddle with his humans on the furniture. He sleeps in bed with our 13 year old quite contently.  When left home alone he has not been destructive.
When greeting new people, he is excited and jumps up but calms down and sometimes brings them a toy and wants to play.  Dante is excited when meeting dogs but shows no aggression.  He does not bark excessively. When we figure out what he is trying to communicate, he is satisfied and stops. He barks at other dogs if they bark first and sometimes barks at people on our walks. He is housebroken. We take him out every 2-3 hours. He tolerates grooming well. Overall, he is an absolute delight and has fit in very well.  Dante would do well with an active family who will take him for long walks 2-3 times a day and take the time to play with him.  He needs to be stimulated and kept active.  Dante would be well suited with a family with kids 8+ as he’s strong and would knock down the smaller kids.

February 11, 2017 – Dante is 4 years old.  He is a Pug X French Bulldog.  He is neutered and is about 45 lbs.  Dante was surrendered by his owner as he was getting jealous of the newborn baby so a home with kids over 8 would be ideal.  Dante will be going to the vet in the coming week for a complete check and to be brought up to date in his vaccination.  Stay tuned for more on Dante as we get to know him.

MEMPHIS

Age: 11
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

March 22, 2017 – Memphis is gone to his forever home.  He will share his life with a pug brother.

March 6, 2017 – Due to an emergency case coming into the vet clinic on Thursday, March 2, Memphis’ dental procedure was rescheduled for Monday, March 6th.  He will be able to eat without pain when he recovers from his surgery.  Memphis likes to take his time while eating and prefers to graze throughout the day.  This will be difficult should there be other dogs in the home.  He will have to be encourage to eat scheduled meals.  This big boy is the most gentle and loving pug ever.  He just goes with the flow and allows his foster brother & sister run the show. All he wants is to be next or near you and if he gets the opportunity he will be lying across or sitting on your lap..  He is not interested in toys or playing fetch.  Most favorite pass time is lying on the couch watching TV or sleeping.  Memphis enjoys the cool fresh air and gets excited when you are taking him for a walk. He walks well on a leash and takes his time to look for that perfect spot to do his business.  This big boy will have to be kept inside in the A/C during the warm months so he does not become overheated.  Memphis travels well in the car. Restricted to the back seat with a harness attached to the seat belt is advisable. This gentle giant is looking for a calm forever home, not too overwhelming, where he can live out the rest of his senior years in bliss.

February 28, 2017 – This gentle, big boy, is extremely loving and enjoys being cuddled up next to you.  While you are giving him belly rubs he likes to talk to you, which sounds like growling, but what he is saying is more rubs, more rubs.  He is most content with you but can be left alone for a few hours.  Memphis will sleep until you return but be prepared for a lecture from him letting you know that he was not pleased you left him but glad you are back.
Memphis loves going for walks or running around in the backyard.  Care must be given that he does not over do it as he still needs to build up strength in his back end.  Since Memphis likes to jump up and down off furniture, training him to use stairs would benefit him immensely and would possibly prevent any injuries. At his current weight of 27lbs, he tends to land hard on his paws.  Memphis does not inhale his food down like most pugs but likes to take his time. He might not take as long to eat after his dental work is done which has been scheduled for March 2nd.   Memphis is fully house trained and will let you know he needs to go out by softly barking.  He has a very deep bark which suits his size.  Memphis is a very social guy and enjoys the company of other dogs and, of course, people.  He has a silky, soft coat and sheds very little for a pug.  He craves attention and affection but also likes his quiet time so he can dream of finding his furever home that can meet his needs.  This big beautiful boy will take a piece of my heart with him when he leaves but I know that bigger and better things are in store for him.  Memphis will be available for adoption once his dental procedure is completed.

February 27, 2017 – Memphis is doing very well and is getting his teeth cleaned this Thursday.  Come and visit Memphis at Pet Valu @Westgate Mall in Ottawa on Saturday March 4 from 11 to 3pm.

February 21, 2017 – This loving boy, who thinks he’s a lap dog, is a pleasure to foster.  He gets along with other dogs and enjoys the attention he receives from people. He loves to be held, lying across your lap when you are sitting, or snuggled next to you on the couch or in the big bed.  Any loving attention is welcomed. Memphis walks well on leash but does pull at times when he is on a mission.  He prefers to run free in the backyard and would love to have a dog brother or sister to play & cuddle with.  Memphis is fully house trained and will let you know when he has to go out by barking or sitting at the door.  When you ask him if he needs to go out he gets excited and starts barking & jumping.  He enjoys the outdoors and especially likes lying in the warm sun.  Memphis would not be happy in an apartment. When Memphis wants to nap, he gets on the back of the couch in order to get a good view out the window.  He does require daily exercise; water therapy would be great for this boy in order to strengthen his back end. At times, Memphis can be as playful as a puppy. Memphis does not inhale his food like most pugs.  He prefers to take his time to enjoy it.  He loves carrots and cucumbers.  On the day of his arrival with us, Memphis weighed 28lbs.  His ideal weight would be around 23lbs.  Since being in rescue, he has dropped 1lb and, we will continue to work on reducing his weight until his goal is reached. When left alone for a few hours, Memphis will sleep until your return.  A maximum of 5 hours alone is recommended as, like most pugs, they prefer to have someone at home with them. The family who will adopt Memphis will be very lucky to have this guy in their lives.  The love you will receive from him will be immeasurable.

February 20, 2017 – Memphis went to the vet last week for a complete check and to get vaccinated and microchipped.  Memphis has very bad teeth so a dental cleaning has been scheduled for February 27, 2017.  More info on Memphis to be posted shortly.

February 11, 2017 – Memphis came in yesterday.  He was surrendered by his owner who couldn’t care for him anymore.  Memphis is neutered and he gets along well with other dogs.  He’s also a big cuddler.  Memphis will be going to the vet this coming Monday for a complete check up and to get up to date in his vaccination.  Stay tuned for more info on Memphis as we get to know him.

ROBBIE

Age: 9
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

February 19, 2017 – Robbie is gone to his forever home today……he will share his life with a pug brother.

February 12, 2017 – Robbie is doing very well and is not ready to be adopted.  He is completely off the Gabapentin now and he is reacting very well.  Robbie LOVES people and he get along well with dogs and kids.

February 7, 2017 – Robbie is doing well.  He was at the vet recently to get a complete check and we discovered that he had an ear infection.  He is being treated for that and we will slowly wean him from the Gabapentin.  Robbie is doing very well with other dogs and loves to be around people, always greeting everybody with a wagging tail.  Robbie will soon be available for adoption and will be brought up to date in his vaccination shortly.

January 31, 2017 – Robbie came in on Sunday.  He was sadly surrendered by his owner.  Robbie is 9 years old and he has separation anxiety.  He is actually taking Gabapentin twice a day to help him.  He is  actually fostered with another pug and all goes well.  Robbie is indifferent to cats and LOVES to be beside someone at all time.  Robbie is housetrained.  Robbie is going to the vet tomorrow for a complete check up.

BUFFY

Age: 9 1/2 years old
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

February 12, 2017 – Buffy is such a sweet girl.  She’s very dedicated to her foster mom and has settled in with the cats and dog very nicely.  She has gained a bit of weight over the past few weeks and is now looking very healthy, and she has the energy to match.  She’s an eager beaver when her foster family comes home, hopping up and down and running around.  She’s also very animated at meal times which, to be quite honest, are her very favourite times of the day.  Buffy’s hips have arthritis and dysplasia, so her back legs don’t always work as they should.  She copes very well and runs around the house and the back yard having lots of fun and goes up and down flights of stairs with no issues; but when she gets tired or when she’s been sitting quiet for a long time and she’s stiff her feet drag quite a bit and sometimes her back legs don’t want to work at all for very short periods of time.  Buffy is house trained very well; she always urinates outside and usually poos outside too, but she seems to have some trouble holding in her poo if she hasn’t been out in a while.  Buffy is a little cuddler who always wants to be sitting next to her person or sleeping with them in the big bed.  She is very quiet (except a meal times, when she make it clear with her woofs that she loves her food) and respectful of her people and the other pets.  She is a wonderful and dedicated companion.

February 7, 2017 – Buffy had a good time at the UMWPR Adoption Day this past Saturday.  She’s a sweet girl who loves everybody.  Buffy is very mobile despite the bad arthritis she has in her hind legs.  She is slowly gaining weight as she came to us emaciated.  Buffy is a  very loving dog who gets along well with everyone (dogs and cats).  Buffy will need to stay on hip/joint supplement forever.  The cost is about $80 for 6 months.  Buffy will soon be available for adoption.

January 25, 2017 – Buffy went to the vet for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in her vaccination.  She has lost 5lbs in the past year. She has hip dysplasia and most probably a pinched nerve in her spine.  Buffy can walk very fast but sometimes drags her hind legs.  We have started her on Tri-Acta to hopefully help her gain mobility and feel more comfortable in her movements.  She has also been put on pain medication to see if it will help.  Buffy is a very sweet girl who loves people and gets along well with other dogs.  Buffy has a huge appetite and she should be gaining the weight she has lost in the next couples of weeks.  If not, she will be back at the vet for more tests.

January 7, 2017 – Buffy is the first pug coming into rescue in 2017.  She was surrendered by her owner due to illness in the family.  Buffy is spayed and she is 9 1/2 years old and she is a super sweet girl. She has settled in very well and is happy to hang out with her new foster people. She gets along well with resident dog and is ok with the cats, although she is wary of them and tries to avoid them.  Buffy is very thin but she has a really good appetite and is eating and drinking very well.  She is fully house trained and lets you know when she wants to go outside.  Buffy definitely has some mobility issues in her back end. When she walks she sort of drags her back feet a bit. She asks to be picked up to go on the couch. She negotiates our back porch stairs with no problems, but she is nervous of the big stairs to the second floor (wood) and to the third floor (carpeted but steep), so we carry her.  She sleeps in the big bed.

RAISIN – 6 years

Age: 6
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

January 11, 2017 – Raisin is gone to her forever home near Niagara Falls…..

December 27, 2016 – Raisin has been spayed and she is now ready to be adopted.  Raisin is always eager to meet new people and she is good with kids, she is trying to engage with the resident pug with no luck as the resident pug is not interested in her.  Raisin loves to go for walks and she is a big cuddler.  She loves to play fetch as well and will go to the door when she need t go out to do her business.  If you are interested in this sweet girl, please fill out the online adoption application.

December 14, 2016 – Raisin loves to walk. She does pull but if you remind her, she will walk properly and sit when you stop. She loves lots of attention and likes to meet new people.  She likes to chase the resident cats so we are working on breaking that habit. Raisin is housetrained. She likes you to keep her company while she eats and will let you pet her as much as you would like. Raisin is quite a smart girl and she is very well behaved. Raisin has been to the vet and she is in good health. She has been vaccinated and microchipped.  Raisin needs a bit of training but she’s a quick learner and eager to please her people. She also seems to be great with kids.  Raisin will soon be spayed and become available for adoption.

December 13, 2016 – Raisin is an exquisite pug X (we think with Boston Terrier), she’s brindle with a beautiful white patch on her chest.  Raisin was found tied to a tree in a backyard.  She appears to be a healthy girl.  Raisin is going to the vet today for a complete check up and to get brought up to date in her vaccination and microchipped.  We will then schedule her spaying surgery.

December 26, 2016 – Flower is now available for adoption.  This sweet girl is playful and good with kids and other dogs.  She healed very well from her surgery and she is now ready to go to her forever home.

December 13, 2016 – Flower is a lovely, gentle girl who loves to sit or lay close to you, she just wants to be near. She is very friendly with children and people of all ages. She is completely housetrained and knows commands in French but is starting to learn them in English as well. She is learning to walk nicely on a leash without pulling. She rarely ever barks and is a very smart girl and a quick learner. She likes to play with other dogs outside but is indifferent to them inside. She is indifferent to cats. She does not chew or destroy anything. She is a very happy and loving girl.

December 12, 2016 – Flower was surrendered by her owner who didn’t have the resources to have the surgery to remove stones that she had in her bladder.  Flower is 8 years old and she is a puggle.  She is up to date in her vaccination and has been microchipped.  Her surgery to remove 3 big stones from her bladder was successfully done on December 9 and she had her teeth cleaned at the same time.  Flower is 24lbs, she is full of beans, gets along well with other dogs and kids and is a joy to have around.

SOUKI

Age: 5 1/2 years old
Adoption Fees: $400
Adoption Status:

December 26, 2016 – Souki is doing very well. Her incision is healing nicely and she is eating well after her dental work. Her breath is a lot better too!  She is still working on relieving herself outside. She’s not keen on going out to take care of things but she is still enjoying her walks.  She is a quiet girl except when we come home, she then gets very excited & vocal.  She has settled in well with the resident dogs, she is definitely part of the “pack”.  She is getting better at sitting to wait for her meals.  She sleeps through the night on the big bed but is not a loud sleeper.  Souki is now ready to go to her forever home.

December 5, 2016 – Souki has settled in well in a very short time. She loves to snuggle on the sofa and enjoys her daily walks. She gets along well with the resident dogs and keeps up with them easily on fairly long walks in the woods.  We are seeing progress with training Souki’s housetraining. We continue to work on this with her rather than use the indoor pads she was used to.  Souki is a lovely girl. She is always with one of us as she follows us around the house.  Souki is getting spayed on December 14 and she will also have her teeth cleaned at that time.  Souki was recently vaccinated and the vet said she’s a healthy girl.

November 27, 2016:  Souki was surrendered by her owner who is terminally ill.  She’s born on January 4, 2011 so she will be 6 very soon.  Soimg_5330uki is not spayed and she will need to have her teeth cleaned.  She will go to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in her vaccination.  Stay tuned for more on Souki as we get to know her more.

LUNA

Age: 3 years old
Adoption Fees: $400
Adoption Status:

luna

December 6, 2016  – Luna is a joy to have around – she loves attention and she’ll definitely let you know if it’s lacking by either giving you the saddest puppy eyes, pawing a bit at you and sometimes maybe even barking – but that is usually if you’re having a little snack and she wants a bite. Luna loves to play with her toys, enjoys playing fetch and really likes belly rubs. Luna can sometimes play a bit rough and mistakes your hand for a chew toy but, with a bit of training, she’ll learn to ease up quite quickly. Now, pugs are known for snoring and sorting, and little Miss Luna does not disappoint, but that just make her all the cuter. She enjoys going for walks and you’ll definitely hear the snorting when she’s sniffing out the trees or greeting other dogs. She likes to say hello to all dogs, big or small, but doesn’t seem that interested in playing with them but that could change depending on the dog. Luna seems to prefer human company, especially laying her head on your lap and snuggling up close to you. Luna is crate trained but she seems to be fine left on her own for a few hours and is content to just sleep on her pillow with a stuffy at night. She does get a little anxious in the car so a crate may be best if you are traveling alone with her. Luna still needs to be spayed and should be available for adoption in the coming weeks. Keep checking back for more updates on the beautiful girl.

December 5, 2016 – Luna is doing very well.  She’s good with the resident male Chow Chow and she is getting spayed on December 12.  More info on Luna to be posted soon.

November 17, 2016
– Luna went to the vet yesterday and was vaccinated, microchipped and got some Canaural for a mild ear infection.  Her anal glands were also expressed.  Luna is still in heat so we have to wait before getting her spayed.  She’s doing well and is adapting to her new surroundings.  She loves to go for walks.

November 15, 2016 – Luna came in last night.  She’s a 3 year old female who hasn’t had an easy life so far.  Luna is not spayed and not up to date in he vaccination.  She will be going to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up and to schedule her spaying surgery.  Stay tuned for ore on this pretty girl as we get to know her more in the coming weeks.

LUIGI

Age: 7 years old
Adoption Fees: 300
Adoption Status:

louigi3

February 28, 2017 – Sorry for the delay in this update.  Luigi’s second surgery didn’t work out and he is back to his foster family.  A 3rd surgery will be performed on March 13 and this time, our sweet boy will stay at Alta Vista Animal Hospital for the week under sedation so he was get the best chances for a successful outcome.  Luigi is a sweet boy and we are hoping that the next update will be full of positive news.

January 25, 2017 – Luigi continues to do well.  He is gaining a bit of weight, has a healthy pug appetite.
Get along with other dogs.  Does not like cats!  He seem to be afraid of them, so no cats in his future.
He’s a quirky little guy, always doing something funny.  Like walks, but not too long.  And hates the cold.  His favourite spot to lie is in front of the hot air vent in our kitchen, on a big thick furry blanket.  Right in the way, but we don’t have the heart to move him.  He will go see Dr Thatcher on the 30th, and will have second surgery that day if needed.  We are hoping for a miracle, that the hole closed on the right side…but very unlikely we were told.

December 28, 2016 – Luigi is doing exceptionally well, his demeanour is changing to be more engaged and playful.  This guy LOVES being the centre of attention.  When we have company he will position himself in between them and rest his head on their laps…until they give him the appropriate ohh and awes.
He has a pug like appetite and will eat very enthusiastically.  We still provide soft food, by soaking his kibbles in hot water for several hours so they will not hurt his mouth. He still has not had any pure water, we have been giving him a small amount of goats milk with water and he drinks this.  It is full of essential vitamins and minerals and helps with his calcium intake.  I do think he has become accustomed to this and that’s why he doesn’t drink plain water.
Perhaps drinking water hurt initially and that is why he is reluctant to drink it.
He sleeps in the big bed.  He is a good sleeper but does snore sometimes.  He likes to be kept warm and will wrangle under the covers if he gets cold.
We look forward to the surgical followup and hope all has healed completely.

December 13, 2016 – Luigi had a surgery performed by Dr. Thatcher (dentistry specialist) to repair 2 big holes he had on his palate up to his sinuses, he spent the night at AVAH and is now back to his foster family for a smooth recovery.

December 5, 2016 – Luigi is doing well while waiting to be seen by dental surgeon at AVAH on December 13 for his oral nasal fistula. We give him soft food and clean his mouth & gums after each meal.  We have kept his activities fairly limited, short walks & backyard.  He sometimes has a slight limp in the front shoulder after longer walks, but we feel it may be from an old injury and doesn’t slow him down. I think once this is all behind him, and he can exercise more and build up his endurance and muscle this slight limp will disappear.  Luigi loves car rides and will intently look out the window and watch the world go by. He loves everyone, and everyone loves him. He always gets pats and greetings from passerbys and wins the hearts of everyone that comes to our house.  Quite honestly, Luigi is very easy to have. He enjoys the resident pugs, although they are jealous of him because he is always the centre of attention because he is so cute. He sleeps well, and never has made any mess in the house.
All he needs is hugs and cuddles and a warm comfy cushion to sleep on when he is alone.  Luigi is amazing and we can’t wait until he sees the dentist and gets to move on with his amazing life!

November 22, 2016 – Luigi is available for adoption.  He is doing very well, has been brought to date in his vaccination and microchipped.  Luigi should go to a home with no cats.

November 17, 2016 – Luigi was at the vet on Tuesday and was neutered and had his teeth cleaned.  He lost 8 teeth and already had many missing……Luigi is back to his foster family for a smooth recovery.  Luigi is 20lbs.

November 15, 2016 – Luigi is a doll, he is the sweetest, calmest, cuddliest pug ever.  He walked in and made himself at home…it’s like he always been a member of the family.  He gets along well with dogs and, is up for pats and cuddles from anyone who stops by the house.  Luigi is completely housetrained, has perfect manners and is practically, the perfect pug.  He is all around a very lovely dog.  Luigi is getting neutered and having his teeth cleaned today.

louigi2November 13, 2016 – Luigi came in on Friday.  He is an owner surrender.  Luigi is a sweet boy and very well behaved.  He is not neutered yet.  Luigi will be going to the vet this Tuesday to get neutered and get his teeth cleaned.  Luigi is about 7 years old.  Stay tuned for more info on this beautiful by as we get to know him better.

whit

December 29, 2016 – Whit’s eye has healed almost completely, he is to continue the Isathal for another week then we will have hi rechecked at the vet.  Whit is a sweet boy who loves to go outside with his sister Lilly and enjoys cuddling with his people.

December 26, 2016 – Whit had an eye ulcer a little over a week ago ad had to go to the vet.  He has received medication to put in his eye and is going for a recheck this coming Wednesday.

December 5, 2016 – Whit is doing very well. He and Lilly went to Windsor Park  and had a bit of off leash time. Whit  really  likes  to cuddle.  We are working on his housetraining and he’s getting better but will mark in the house occasionally, looks like he took a bad habit in his previous life and this behaviour was never corrected or worked on.  Whit is learning to sit before having his harness put on.  He is a very loving boy.

November 22, 2016 – Whit is doing very well and had his teeth cleaned today.  He lost one tooth and the rest were polished and cleaned.  Whit is now available for adoption with his sister Lilly.  They are brother and sister from the same litter.  Whit’s reaction to the snow is entertaining, Whit does the occasional marking but with positive reinforcement and patience, he should be able to understand that he shouldn’t do that in the house.  He is quite cuddly.
Whit and Lilly do wrestle once and a while but mostly they sleep tangled up together and do things side by side.
