PUGSLEY

Age: 10
Adoption Fees: $300

August 21, 2018 – Pugsley’s foster mom has decided to adopt him.  Pugsley will be sharing his life with 4 pug brothers, 2 cats, 2 horses, 30 chicken and a retired mom and dad.

August 15, 2018 – Pugsley is back to rescue after it was deemed that he was not a good fit for that family who had an unpredictable kid who was not nice with Pugsley.  This sweetie deserves to be loved and well cared for.  Come and meet Pugsley this Saturday, August 18 from 11AM to 230PM at Ren’s Pets in Kanata.

July 31, 2018 – Pugsley is doing great.  He was quite lively last night playing tug-o-war with toys, fetching a stuffy ball down the hall and he even did some zoomies. We went for two short walks last night and have already taken two walks this morning.  Pugsley is now napping.  He has had one accident in the house but he ran down the hall and squatted in front of the door.  Pugsley stops at the stairs and cautiously goes down the two steps.  I think his depth perception is poor.  He has no problem at all with the steps to go outside.

July 30, 2018 – Pugsley is in a new foster family since yesterday.  Pugsley has arrived and appears to be a real sweetheart.  We went for a short walk and he did really well.  When I went to take off his harness we had a little game of tug-o-war with his harness.  He then stood on his hind legs stretching to see what was on the kitchen table.  His tail has been wagging constantly.  I’m sure he’ll settle in within a few days.

July 23, 2018 – Pugsley is settling in to his new environment. He is still on pain medication and that seems to help him once it takes affect. His stitches are quite itchy so he needs his cone on to stop him from licking them. Pugsley does not seem to see very well so caution is needed around stairs and during walks. Pugsley is starting to enjoy his kibble but still needs a small scoop of soft food to get him to eat it.  He has had a few accidents in the house since being here but I feel it’s due to the surgery and everything that his bladder went through. He’s brought outside every couple hours to help eliminate accidents. Pugsley isn’t a huge fan of walks and will dig his heels in after a few minutes. Luckily for him, he’s only allowed a few 5 minute walks a day while he’s healing. Pugsley could lose about five pounds and will need some strengthening of his back end which is a little weak. From time to time we do see bouts of playfulness which will be more frequent the better he feels in time

July 19, 2018 – Pugsley had a surgery to remove tons of debris (tiny stones) from his bladder.  He is now back to his foster home for a smooth recovery.  He has stitches that need to be removed in 14 days.  Pugsley is a sweet boy who gets along very well with other dogs.

July 18, 2018 – Pugsley was brought directly to the Emergency Hospital as he hasn’t urinate since Saturday.  This sweet boy was surrendered to us.  Pugsley is 10 years old and he is neutered.  We will know more about his medical condition later on today.

FRANK

Age: 13
Adoption Fees: $300

September 3, 2018 – Frank is gone to his forever home yesterday.  He will be living in a senior residence with his adoptive dad and will get plenty of walks and naps….(:

August 21, 2018 – Frank is a very easy going pug. He gets along very well with the resident pug. A lot if times you will see the two of them lying beside each other. Frank gets along with people very well. He has a cute personality that you get to know more each day. Frank loves to sit outside and take in the fresh air. There has been no accidents in the house.

August 10, 2018 – Frank went to the vet yesterday to get his rabies shot. The vet said that Frank has a strong heart and clear lungs and an x-ray was taken to make sure everything looked good, which it did. Frank had geriatric blood work done and his white blood cells are a tiny bit elevated, for that reason, he will be put on antibiotics for 10 days.  An ideal home for Frank would be one where he can live out the remainder of his time in a quiet home where he can enjoy a slow pace and lots of snuggles.  He’s the best snuggler and has the nicest temperament; everyone that meets him comments on how sweet he is.  He is a joy to have in our home.  Meet Frank at Rens Pets Depot on Strandherd Drive on Saturday August 11 from 11AM to 3PM.

July 30, 2018 – Frank is a sweet old man.  He loves to go for walks & sleep.  He gets along well with other dogs.

July 24, 2018 – Frank was neutered today and had his teeth cleaned.  He lost 6 and still has 32 left in his mouth.  Frank will be going back to his foster family at the end of the day today for a smooth recovery.

July 23, 2018 – Frank is a joy to foster. He’s so adaptable and easy going. He’s such a cuddle bug and loves to be near his people. He has full run of the house and has not had a single accident since being with us. He’s quiet and calm; patiently sitting while he waits for his food which he loves. He is a low maintenance boy who is just happy all the time. He’s not a fan of walks longer than 10 minutes but we’re working on it. Frank sleeps in his dog bed which is beside our bed. He loves it when the comforter falls off our bed at night and he can be found curled up in it in the morning. Frank has no mobility issues and can easily run up our wood staircase with ease. He’s in amazing shape for his age and is still eager to learn and please

July 16, 3018 – Frank’s visit on Friday went pretty well–he’s 18 lbs. Most looks good, including his hind legs and arched spine–no pain.  He has been put on Clavamox for 10 days to treat bacterias in his urine.  Frank was coughing a lot when he came to us; while it may be kennel cough, the vet is not convinced it is. He thinks it may be an elongated soft palate issue. He usually has the coughing fit when he’s just finished eating as well as when he’s excited. The vet suggested we wait until the round of antibiotics are finished and see if there’s any change with the coughing, reverse sneezing and then we can go from there as far as looking into the soft palate as the problem. He said that he can look into that further during the dental. Other than that, Frank is a pretty healthy boy. His stool sample is good and the results of the blood work will be forwarded to you.

July 13, 2018 – Frank is doing well and settled in quickly with his new environment. Frank really enjoys short walks with the resident lab and keeps up just fine. He also enjoys the quiet environment and having his foster mom home during the day. He’s soaking up the TLC and snuggles! Frank loves car rides, hanging out by the pool with his foster mom and meeting new people. He seems to be indifferent with dogs; he’s perfectly fine with them around him but not really interested in greeting/playing. This sweet old boy has a wonderful, easygoing temperament. As he is not currently neutered, he does not have run of the house. He’s watched very closely, given lots of trips outside to do his business and is in a kennel when we are away and during the night.

July 11, 2018 – On this beautiful summer day, Frank came into rescue.  If the definition of kindness had a name, it would be Frank.  This older boy is only love, cuddles, happy face & waggy tail. Frank was surrendered at the SPCA with only 2 infos, age & name.  Frank is 13 years old and he is not neutered, he seems to have a bad mouth too based on the foul smell.  This absolutely exquisite older guy is so sweet and happy to meet new people.  Frank is going to the vet this Friday for a complete check up and blood work in preparation of his dental procedure and later on, his neutering surgery.

FREDDIE

Age: 3
Adoption Fees: $400

August 24, 2018 – Freddie is gone to his forever home.

August 12, 2018 – What a week of firsts Freddie has had!! Cottage camping! He was a bit hesitant at night around the campfire but he came around in no time and enjoyed the evenings curled up in our laps. Freddie does NOT enjoy meeting large dogs when he is on leash. We have no off leash experience to speak of but he gets agitated around large dogs. This may be because he is restrained or because of a bad experience with a large dog in his past life. With small to medium sized dogs, he is good. Freddie would do best in a home with older children too due to his size, energy, and love for jumping!  Freddie spent time on the deck enjoying the shade, in the cottage, on the dock and experienced swimming for the first time! He seemed to enjoy the water provided he was being held. Freddie enjoyed the cooling off! We also went for walks in the forest and spent our evenings around the campfire. Freddie slept like a champ each night. He continues to enjoy the outdoors more and more.

August 7, 2018 – Freddie continues to do so well. He really is an incredible pug!! Freddie spent a long weekend with his foster grandparents and won their hearts. He was exceptionally well behaved for them; however he did manage to steal some sardines from his foster grandpa. 😂 Freddie will be vacationing at the cottage this week for some much needed rest and relaxation with the resident pug and ourselves.
Freddie’s favourite spot is to sit on his foster grandpa’s shoulder to get a better view of the river.

August 1, 2018 – Freddie continues to do well in his foster home. Crating is going well and we discovered that Freddie is obsessed with small tennis balls. He will play and play with them. He years the fuzz off of them but doesn’t eat it then will carry the plastic ball around until it splits. When this happens we throw it out and start the process all over again. He really is such a happy and curious pug! Freddie enjoyed meeting everyone at the UMWPR adoption awareness event on July 28 at Pet Valu.

July 25, 2018 – Freddie went on his first walk at Bruce Pit tonight with the resident pug. Although he only lasted about 20 minutes due to the humidity, he performed exceptionally well on leash. Freddie enjoyed meeting new people as well as new smaller dogs, including a pug named Max, but was a bit unsure and hesitant around the larger breeds. Freddie is becoming more used to his crate during the day and enters in it even when we are at home (usually just to play with his pillow, but hey, we consider this a winning situation)!  Freddie is sure to have a deep sleep this eve after all of his new adventures.

July 24, 2018 – Freddie does not do well with enclosures (he can clear a 4 feet gate). He is also quite the barker but calms down after a while. His ear infections are completely healed too.  Whoever is interested in adopting Freddie must know that he is a very active dog and would not do well being left alone all day.  Freddie needs to be stimulated, he needs to go for walks, play and run.  Frank would be best with kids 10+ as he would jump on the younger ones and knock them down.

July 19, 2018 – Freddie continues to do well.  We are working on endurance and leash training; I’m happy to say he has been able to keep up for an hour long walk! Freddie is kept separate from the resident pug during the day as he can get quite mischevious when we are away – slippers, Kleenex boxes and dishtowels are some of his favourites! Freddie likes to jump on tables, or onto dining room chairs and then onto tables so we are working on correcting this. He does not beg at the table but will remain as close as possible in case anything drops 🙂 Freddie is an incredible sleeper and such a smart little guy….he knows many commands. Freddie loves to play with the resident pug and they continue to get along very well. They will steal each other’s toys for hours just to play. Freddie is completely housetrained and there have been no accidents in the house. At night he snuggles with his foster mom on the couch.  Freddie’s ear infections are clearing up nicely and we only have a few days of meds left.  Freddie would love to have a forever home with a family who will be dedicated to continuing his training and who will provide him with tons of love and play.  Ideally, a family with already a young dog.  Some family will be very lucky to adopt this smart, handsome boy!

July 16, 2018 – Freddie is doing very well.  We did some exposure therapy with Freddie this weekend as I was at a family picnic with 30 or so guests. He did very well. There was a bit of barking at the start and we found that he has more of an issue meeting new people when on leash versus when off leash (in the house loose vs being walked on leash outside). And he is more afraid/more vocal of/with men than women. By the end of the picnic he was greeting everyone! It was really a breakthrough for him. Today he is pooped from having such an exciting day yesterday. He is a charmer and his ear infections are healing up nicely.

July 13, 2018 – Freddie’s vet appointment went well. He has an infection in both ears and was given meds for 10 days. They gave him the Apoquel for his allergies for 30 days (1 pill per day). He was brought up to date in his vaccination and was microchipped as well. Freddie was extremely over stimulated at the vet and barked constantly while in the waiting room. His bark seems to be worse with men than with women. He was good once they put us in a room.Freddie knows several commands including sit, lay down, bed time, stay and give (all in French). We are working on his English 🙂  At bedtime, he stays in our room otherwise he will bark at noise or should he see anyone outside. He is a good sleeper and a great eater (besides a bit of guarding his food). We separate the two pugs for mealtimes. He is a strong puller on leash so we are working on this and have seen much improvement over the last couple of days. Freddie is strong in general! He does not have long endurance for walks or play and becomes winded quickly so we are gradually increasing his activity.  Freddie has a great temperament and is such a handsome little man. He has settled right in and is a big cuddle pug!

July 8, 2018 – Freddie is born in April 2015 so he is a little over 3 years old.  He is neutered and has skin allergies.  He is going to the vet today for a complete check up.  Stay tuned for more on Freddie as we get to know him.

OLIVER AKA OLLIE

Age: 13
Adoption Fees: $200

May 21, 2019 – Mr Ollie has had a very busy couple of weeks. He has been visiting a groomer every weekend to work on his nails (the groomer has been generous enough to work away on them for free as there isn’t much to do each time). Yesterday, he got a full spa day with a wash, cut, and blow dry to get ready for summer (and shedding season!). Ollie needs to be wherever his foster humans are at all times. No bathroom door can remain closed for too long without Ollie trying to nudge it open! He often lays out in front of us to keep watch, should we dare try to sneak into the kitchen without him.

April 9, 2019 – Ollie has continued to be a joy to foster. He is our shadow wherever we are in the house, and especially so when we are in the kitchen. While we are away, he curls up right behind the front door so he can be the first to greet us when we return. Ollie has a lot of energy for a senior pug and still enjoys playing with his foster brother and other dogs in the building. He has become more protective of his foster parents lately and whines if someone new gets too close without his permission. Yet, his tail wags with excitement when a human comes to visit. He is also more curious while on walks, stopping to sniff everything in his path!

March 28, 2019 – Ollie is doing very well. There have been far fewer accidents inside this week and now that the weather has warmed up a little bit he is taking us on longer walks around the block (slowly and steadily!). Ollie went to see his favourite groomer last weekend and followed his fresh new do with a photo shoot! It is safe to say the camera loved him.  Thank-you guys again for choosing us as Ollie’s foster family. We love the snuggly little guy.

February 19, 2019 – Ollie is doing well.  He seems to get more affectionate every week.  The Propolin seems to be helping with his poop accidents, but he is still going indoors every couple of days or so. Easy enough for us to handle.  His hearing does seem to be getting a bit worse, but there are no signs of an infection.  Ollie has certainly become comfortable in our home , constantly wedging himself into Vitto’s bed… while Vitto is in it. Vitto seems to be enjoying the company of another dog.

January 21, 2019 –  Ollie is back to his old self. The Propanolamine has been incredibly helpful. He still has the occasional pee inside but it is becoming few and far between (and sometimes I think it is intentional because of the cold outside). To be safe, we carry him in and out so that he doesn’t have any accidents in the common areas of our building… and he loves it! He now looks up at us with his big eyes to say ‘What are you waiting for? Pick me up, please!’. The extra attention from people in the elevator doesn’t hurt either. It seems like his vision is deteriorating a little bit, as if we are a little distance away he won’t react to us until we make a noise. He is still getting around perfectly fine, though.

November 21, 2018 – Ollie is still a happy, healthy senior pug!  We learned this week that Ollie does not like the cold. He will wiggle and squirm to try and avoid having to go outside unless he borrows Vitto’s booties [see picture below]. His trips outside are quick but he does like to stop to get a little taste of the snow along the way. He then happily prances back down the hallway, attracting smiles from residents as he waits for the elevator. Ollie spends most of the day snoozing but will perk his head up at the sound of any movement, especially the fridge. He lays on the front mat while we are away so that he can be the first to greet us once we get home. Ollie also met his first feline friend, Wally, this week. The two sniffed and circled each other for a little while before becoming fast friends. Ollie & Wally were inseparable for the rest of the evening, each sleeping on the opposite sides of the same door when it was time for bed.

October 27, 2018 – Ollie is now on the Hospice Pugs page, go visit him there and click on “donate” to help for vet fees and other cost related to this sweet boy.

October 22, 2018 – Ollie is the King of the house. You will frequently find him curled up at your feet and he has claimed his “spot” in each room of the house to keep an eye on our every move. He is very affectionate and nuzzles his head into the palm of your hand for extra loves each time you get home. He has even charmed our building concierge! His accidents are becoming less frequent and he tries his best to only go #2 when he is outside. He is also becoming more tolerant of other dogs, even when they are around his food bowl. We’ve had two overnight doggy visitors and Ollie has welcomed them into our home with his tail wagging! He loves to play with other dogs—as long as it’s on his terms. Ollie fills our home with so much happiness. He is the perfect companion for Vitto, who has grown accustomed to sharing his bed, and has even started to whine when Ollie leaves his side! A big thank-you to UMWPR for choosing us as Ollie’s foster parents!

August 23, 2018 – I am still trying to sniff out my forever home, one snuggle at a time. My foster family brings me a lot of tail-wiggling fun but what I really want a forever home to call my own.
I may be a little old and my legs don’t move quite like they used to, but I don’t let that slow me down! I am looking for someone special to share my senior days with — walks in the sun, mid-day naps, and two square meals a day (meal time makes my tail wag extra fast!).
I promise I won’t cause you any trouble: I will be very happy to just lay at your feet and soak up the love of my forever family. Oh, and whoever said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks obviously hasn’t seen my high fives!

August 10, 2018 – Meet Ollie at Rens Pets Depot on Strandherd Drive in Nepean from 11AM to 3PM.

July 30, 2018 – Ollie is a special needs pug with a bit of a wobbly back end. It doesn’t keep him from enjoying life, but it does mean that he sometimes poops before he can get outside. He can’t help it. Ollie will need special attention in the form of regularly scheduled meals, no snacks in between, regular outings and a forgiving family who loves him in spite of his little “problem”. Ollie has an amazing personality and he is always curious and eager to greet new people.  He can be a bit grumpy with other dogs if they get in his face.

July 16, 2018 – Ollie continues to get comfy in our home! He loves to be wherever we are and lies on our front mat by the door while we’re away and jumps up to greet us when we get home. He knows simple commands like sit, lie down, and paw, and is eager to get praise from you. He sleeps through the night and serves as our morning alarm clock with a little knock on the bedroom door. He loves to cuddle with Vitto during the day but knows when Vitto wants his space. He’s had no pee accidents inside.

July 5, 2018 – Ollie is settling in again. Less peeing inside (zero accidents inside today!). We even caught Ollie and Vitto cuddling a couple of times today, but they quickly separated when they realized we were home. Ollie wants to be around us wherever we are and will lay at your feet (or on your feet!) to stay close. He has stopped whining while we are away, and will only let out a little whimper if he wants to be cuddled, and of course we oblige. He’s happy to sleep in the living room though he does follow us to the bedroom at night. A quick “goodnight Ollie” lets him know it’s bed time and he comes back out to his bed and curls up for the night.

June 28, 2018 – I’m getting used to being (mostly) toothless and have been enjoying my wet food!  It took my tummy a bit of time to adjust, but I am back on track now.  I love being a part of things and with my people.  I get a little anxious if I am restained to an area of the house or crated, but will relax and sleep on my bed if I have free rein.  I can’t do the stairs, but I happily accept rides up and down.  I can handle one or two steps, and can still enjoy short walks.  I am currently bunking with three other dogs and we get along great!  Peggy pug is fun to play with from time to time.  Come and meet me this Saturday, July 30, at Pet Valu on Hazeldean Road in Kanata from 11AM to 3PM.

June 19, 2018 – Ollie had his teeth cleaned today and they all needed to be extracted except for 1 molar !  Ollie did very well under anesthesia and will be ready to go back to his foster home at the end of the day.

June 16, 2018 – Ollie is doing well, taking four very short walks a day. He’ll take a seat to let us know when it’s time to pick him up to go back inside. So far there have been no accidents inside! He loves laying on the cool ceramic tiles during hot days and lays next to the front door to greet us when we get home. Ollie likes to be wherever we are and will get upset if we are out of sight for too long. He gets a little jealous of the resident pug, and sometimes we catch Ollie growling at him. He’s very sweet and just wants all of your love and attention.  Ollie went to the vet and will need to have his teeth cleaned – that will happen on June 25 .  The vet took xrays and said he has a 2 vertebrae fused so his walking is a bit wobbly but he can still go for short walks.

June 10, 2018 – Ollie came in yesterday, he was surrendered by his owner.  Ollie is a sweet 13 year old boy.  He is a tad overweight and has arthritis.  Ollie is going to the vet tomorrow for a complete check up.  Stay tuned for more on this beautiful boy.  Ollie get along well with other dogs.

KITTY

Age: 7 years old
Adoption Fees: $300

July 5, 2018 – Kitty is gone to her forever home last night, she will be living with a female pug.

June 28, 2018 – Kitty recovered well from her dental procedure at the vet. She takes her medication well with a small piece of food. She must have been in a bit of pain with her teeth because she is more lively now and does a lot more zoomies and runs about than she did before. She traveled to Barrie with us for a weekend and she did very well on the car ride in a soft crate. She slept most of the way and used her potty/walk breaks. She adapted to the new environment and could sleep anywhere in the house if she was tired enough (couch, kitchen floor, her own bed). Since she has poor vision she maps the house with her nose and has it figured out in a short amount of time. This also leaves her exhausted at the end of the day. She is very good with dogs and cats, big and small. Although she has been de-barked she is still communicative enough with the other animals. She is also good around young kids and doesn’t seem spooked by their erratic movements, she even positions herself at their feet during meal time since she knows that’s where the food will be. She of course, like most dogs doesn’t enjoy being chased or followed by kids who find her fascinating but, she never showed any signs of aggression towards them. She seems very content on her own but, we feel she may also enjoy the company and leadership of another dog due to her poor sight. When we are out of the house, she can be trusted to roam the apartment because she has not chewed, scratched, got into garbage/food/etc, or wrecked anything. When we leave the apartment we say “go to bed” and she used to go to her crate but, now she goes to the big bed and sometimes the couch. She is very clever! She is used to sleeping on the big bed at night and now becomes quite anxious if you put her in her crate at night or keep her in the kitchen if we are in bed. She’s mostly good in the bed and sleeps at your feet on her blanket. She often checks on us in the night with a cold nose which is very sweet. She is however becoming an early bird for self grooming, attention, a pee, and sometimes even a walk. We are hoping this is just a phase because 4AM is too early and although we try to put her in her crate after she goes out for a pee, as mentioned when you remove her from the bedroom she is not happy. Everyone she has met so far finds her to be such a love bug and a sweetie. We agree. She does not demand your attention but, if you offer affection she is very receiving and loving. She likes to be in the same room as you but, won’t crowd you. She continues to be no trouble and great company to have around. Come and meet Kitty this Saturday, July 30, at Pet Valu on Hazeldean Road in Kanata from 11AM to 3PM.

June 25, 2018 – Kitty had her teeth cleaned and she lost 9.  This sweet girl is 18.8lbs and she is a joy to have around.  We are now accepting adoption applications for this sweet girl.

June 19, 2018 – Kitty has been a very easy pug to have around. After a vet visit to have her eye and teeth examined, the vet is fairly certain that she has almost no vision in her remaining eye. She was quick to adapt to our apartment and even visiting a friends home. She can even jump on and off the couch and bed. She is cautious the first time on unfamiliar stairs but, once you go ahead of her she has no problems the following times. She can bump into chair legs, your feet, etc but once she gets used a place she can navigate around very well. On walks she likes to follow close to your heels and walks well on a lead. We have to be her eyes for things like sign posts, telephone poles and garbage bins. She is getting 2-3 short walks a day. She gets very excited to go for her walks though and likes to sniff everything.  She is house trained. Her routine right now is to be let out for a pee a few times a day- especially first in the morning and just before bed. Her poops are about 20 minutes after eating.  She is used to sleeping on our bed at night but, she is also crate trained and can sleep through the night. She is awake by 7AM or can lazily lounge in bed at your feet or right beside you if she’s cold. She cannot bark and we were told she has a very small trachea; the vet thinks she has also been de-barked. If she is sleeping in her crate, we are always concerned that she cannot communicate with us so we are extra attentive to her noises just in case. When we leave her alone in the house, we keep her gated in the kitchen with her bed and water. She seems to be just fine on her own for a typical work day.  She travels in the car in a soft crate in the back seat. She doesn’t settle well in the car and pants a lot. She also seems sensitive to the heat and has been sick on one of the hot days this week- even after being in air conditioning. She has a healthy appetite and has 1/2 cup of kibble with herring oil twice a day. She enjoys kibble for treats, pieces of sweet potato & broccoli. She knows how to sit for treats and we ask her to sit before she gets her meals. She has good recall when she is in a backyard with another dog. She spent the weekend with us and with a larger dog and she got on with the dog just fine. She would almost follow it around as her eyes. We have given her many nicknames Kit, Kit Kat, Kitty Kat, and Squints. She loves a bath and loves to be brushed. She has some interest in her toys and occasionally engages in play. She loves to be around you but, doesn’t bother you. If you are on the couch, she wants to be on the couch too but, not on you. Same for working at home on a laptop, she likes to lie on the floor or her bed or under your chair. She has warmed up to us more in the last week and easily surrenders to allow us to stroke her belly. She has been no trouble and is very affectionate without being demanding.  Kitty is getting her teeth cleaned next week.  She will then be available for adoption.

June 10, 2018 – Kitty went to the vet and was brought up to date in her vaccination.  She was already microchipped.  Kitty will need her teeth cleaned and her left eye checked to make sure everything is OK on that side.  Kitty is going to the vet this Wednesday to get more tests done on her eye.

June 8, 2018 – Kitty is going to the vet today for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in her vaccination and microchipped.  Kitty is adapting very well to her new environment, she sleeps in her crate with no fuss.  She has had no accident in the house so far. Kitty is a very quick learner and is already used to her harness and will put her head straight in. She has a good appetite. She knows the word bed and she goes straight to her bed in the crate. She doesn’t seem anxious when we are out. So far just for a short time. She walks well on her lead, explores and sniffs a lot. She can easily jump on and off the couch and had a good nap on the couch last night while we watched tv. Kitty does breathe heavier when she is excited or nervous but, she doesn’t snore and she hasn’t barked once. She has a few soft toys she likes to have and she seems very playful. She is a very good girl and loves to have her belly rubbed when she gets used to you.

June 5, 2018 – Please welcome Kitty.  This nice girl was surrendered by her owner.  Kitty 7 years old, she is spayed and has only one eye.  Her right got injured and couldn’t be saved so it had to be removed.  Kitty is about 19lbs.  She will be going to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up, to be brought up to date in her vaccination and to be microchipped.  Kitty gets along very well with other dogs.

MARIO

Age: 10
Adoption Fees: $300

August 4, 2018 – Mario will be humanely euthanized this Tuesday as his health condition is not getting better.  His latest blood work result is showing abnormally elevated liver enzymes.  Despite all the efforts and medical assistance we have made over the past 2 months, letting Mario cross the bridge is the kindest thing we can do for him.  Run free little man.

July 24, 2019 – Mario is being a perfect post op patient. Mario is eating his GI kangaroo diet with some wet food. He has a good appetite and is enjoying it. We are keeping close watch on his mouth over the next week until his sutures dissolve. Mario pre op has been doing pretty well with house training. Post op he has occasionally peed in his pee pad while sleeping. This is understandable because he is on some pain medication that makes him sleepy. Otherwise he’s been doing his business outside like a good boy! Mario loves going for walks he is a little slow and wobbly but he keeps up pretty good with his fellow pugs. Mario is back to being his happy little self. He brings us toys and is such a happy little fella. Mario loves to snuggle and be near us. He has made friends with all of our neighbors as he basically demands that they pet him and pay him attention.  Mario is going back for blood work in a few weeks to see if his level of liver enzyme are back to normal.

July 17, 2018 – Mario did very well after his surgeries today (neutering and dental procedure).  He only has 4 teeth left and he is 19lbs.  Mario will be going to his foster home later today for a smooth recovery.

July 13, 2018 – Mario’s ultrasound and urine analysis result came back normal.  He has been put on kangaroo formula and he is getting neutered and having his teeth cleaned on July 17.

July 5, 2018 -Mario had his ultrasound and biopsy this morning. We won’t know the results till tomorrow. He came home with a really cute bandana from the vet looking so handsome. He’s a little cooler  because they shaved his belly for the procedure. We have currently suspended all rehab until we know more about this little man. He doesn’t seem to be improving. His poop is yellow and he is wobbly when he walks.  Despite this he is always happy to see us and loves to be around us. He is a very sweet pup.  Mario was really enjoying his meals on the new liver support diet. But the last two days have been a struggle. He sometimes won’t eat. We offer it later and sometimes he eats and sometimes he doesn’t. Yesterday he didn’t eat breakfast but ate around 10am. Then would not eat dinner. It was offered several times in the evening and he wouldn’t eat. He was not allowed to eat this morning due to the scan. So you would think he would have been starving. But he didn’t eat much at first. He finally ate it an hour later. But this definitely has me worried. Mario continues to wear the pee pad
but had been having less accidents.

June 16, 2018 – Rehab: Mario went to rehab on Friday June 8th
and Monday June 11th and is booked for Friday June 15th. On Friday they measured how much pressure he is putting on each limb- which used to be dramatically different, it is now nearly equal which is fantastic. It means he isn’t relying on one side or protecting the other. Showing great strength in his limbs. Friday he did 12 minutes on the treadmill on an incline for the first time ever, he did great. On Monday Mario did 15 minutes on the treadmill (his longest time yet) on an incline and at the fastest speed yet. We worked on him walking on a mat and standing up on a step, making him put weight on his back legs and stand straight up.  He has been walking stronger and continues to occasionally try to run. He is more interactive with toys and gets up easier unless he has been lying down for a longer period of time.  Mario is such a happy little man. He loves being talked to and played with. He is becoming quite the little snuggle bug. He stands on his back legs to ask you to pick him up and cuddle. Which is amazing because he has the strength to do it and he has the confidence to want to snuggle. Mario’s cutest new quirk is if we have gone out, even for just a short while when we return and find him sleeping in his bed. When he wakes up he prances around and sings a little song, he makes quiet little happy noises, its so cute!
Mario likes to get inside his foster dad’s stinky gym bag.  Mario is eating turkey and rice diet. He doesn’t always finish the entire portion, but he has been eating more and more. He eats very slowly and needs a lot of patience with feeding. Mario has been peeing in his pad approximately once a day. Despite many walks and many pees outside he still pees in his pad sometimes. Mario likes to bark at things with wheels while we are on walks. Strollers, skateboards, roller skates, bikes etc. His bark is very soft, so nobody seems to mind. Mario otherwise doesn’t appear to be scared of anything. While vacuuming this week I had to pick him up in his bed to move him to vacuum and then move him back.

June 5, 2018 – Mario has been doing great the last few days.  He is a very happy little man. He’s pretty curious about everything and likes to follow you to see what you are up to. He’s very gentle, good with other dogs & children. Mario loves when you talk to him. He has started making happy little pug noises more and more.  Mario is continuing with a low protein diet and his elevated bowl makes it easier for him to eat.  Mario continues wearing the belly band inside. He has only had one time where he peed in it this week and has done all his poops outside. He gets a small treat to encourage outdoor pees and poops and this is going pretty well. Because of his diet and liver condition, Mario drinks a fair amount of water so we offer more times to pee and poop outside also. Mario loves going for walks. He even tried to run a few times this week when he got excited. He is picking his feet up more and showing a lot more strength since he has started hydrotherapy sessions.  Mario is really enjoying his rehab sessions. He did much better on his second & third visits. He is working on stability and strength. Today he did 10 minutes on the treadmill and worked on climbing an elevated mat which helped engage a lot of his muscles.  Mario continues to sleep on his bed on the floor.

May 26, 2018 – Mr. Mario is transitioning very well.  We are having a great time with him.  Mario was incredibly sad when he arrived, his eyes were sad, he cried a little. He had a bath that washed away ten years of dirt, rings around the tub. He seriously bonded with his Foster Daddy after that bath and immediately started looking better. He, like most pugs wasn’t super impressed by nail clipping and face and ear cleaning. But he sure loves being clean! He’s very gentle with all dogs and kids. He has the softest bark, it’s really cute. Definitely becoming a snuggle monster. Today he pulled all the toys out of the toy box and was having a great time playing!Mario had a wobbly gait when he arrived, causing him to trip and stumble quite a bit. His teeth looked poor and he looked extremely bloated.
Mario went to the vet on Wednesday. He had bloodwork done, x-rays & stool sample. Mario has some elevated liver function enzymes in his blood; likely due to poor diet and 0 exercise. He has started a new low protein diet to help correct this problem. He is starting a walking regimen of a minimum four short walks per day with plans to start hydrotherapy sessions to help him build strength and muscles on his hind legs. Mario will revisit the vet in 1 month to reassess his liver enzymes and to plan his dental and neutering surgeries.  Mario is currently wearing a belly band to help ensure he isn’t marking and to train him not to pee by accident. We have had one pee and one poop accident. Both happened because it was close to walk time and he got too excited. Otherwise, it’s only been three days and he’s doing great. He is starting to poop more regularly and he’s farting which is making him look less bloated already.  Currently, Mario is eating cooked turkey & rice and loves it. Mario is getting stronger walking already. He walks pretty well on leash considering his gait. He is fairly stable as long as he’s on one terrain. It’s either all grass or sidewalk, if he straddles both it’s very hard for him. He loves going for walks and being outside.  Because Mario isn’t super steady, he sleeps on the floor in a puppy bed. He loves it and settles right in.  He has a big crush on his pug foster sister and follows his humans everywhere in the house. We are carrying him up and downstairs as he just isn’t strong enough or coordinated enough yet.

May 22, 2018 – Mario came in this afternoon  He was left tied to the door of a shelter with a little bag of toys.  This super sweet boy is very friendly and he wasn’t to be loved.  Mario is going to the vet tomorrow.w for a complete check up. Mario will need his teeth cleaned and he will need to get neutered.  Stay tuned on more on this boy.

PEGGY

Age: 10
Adoption Fees: $300

July 12, 2018 – Peggy went to her forever home tonite, she will share her life with a pug sister.

June 28, 2018 –  I had my spay surgery yesterday and the vet said I did great.  The staff also said I was so sweet – I don’t think they wanted me to go home!  I am taking it easy right now while I heal up, but I am feeling good.  I am taking Metacam for a few days and getting extra cuddles.  I have recently been bunking up with Ollie pug and we like to play every now and then!

June 10, 2018 – Peggy spent the last week living with a cat and they got on famously. She is so easy going, sweet and really loves being with her people. Peggy is usually foster mom’s shadow throughout the day. Cuddling on the couch in the evenings is still her favourite activity! She also loves going for short walks. Peggy dreams of having a low key companion to spend her days with. And who could resist those eyes?

May 29, 2018 – Peggy had her teeth cleaned yesterday and six teeth were extracted. She had a bit of dinner last night and has been alert. We are now relaxing on the couch.  She will be on an antibiotic for a few days. She is looking forward to meeting everyone at the UMWPR Garage Sale this Saturday !

May 22, 2018 – Peggy went to the vet on Saturday and she is scheduled for dental cleaning on May 28. She has been nothing but sweet and has fit in like a glove.  She is definitely out of shape, but enjoys short walks and hanging out in the yard.  Her favourite activity is sleeping in comfortable spots – especially on the couch and our bed.  Met my parent’s cat and no problems. Gets along with the resident dogs and 1 year old boy.

May 14, 2018 – Peggy is a dream!!  She is a sweet, well behaved, cuddle buddy.  Met my parent’s cat and no problems. Gets along with the resident dogs and 1 year old human.  Peggy is going to the vet this Saturday for a complete check up and to scheduled her spaying & dental cleaning.

May 13, 2018 – That sweet girl came in today.  Her name is Peggy and she was surrendered by her owner who had to go to a senior residence.  Peggy will be 11 in September and she is not spayed.  Peggy will be going to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up.

JOE

Age: 8
Adoption Fees: $300

July 30, 2018 – Joe is gone to his forever home on July 28, he will live with Sol, the pug.

July 17, 2018 – We have decided to put Joe up for adoption but we will want his adoptive to continue working on his weight loss journey.  If you are up for that challenge, please fill out the Adoption Application that you will find on our website.

July 16, 2018Joe has really enjoyed the cooler mornings and evenings this week and the pep is back in his step when we go for our walks.  I think with his 5lb weight loss he is already feeling the positive effects.  The heat doesn’t seem to be bothering him quite as much.  He has even started to ask to go out just to sunbathe when just a few weeks ago he would ask to come back in after 10 minutes in our backyard which unfortunately doesn’t offer much shade.  Joe has also started using some of the numerous dog beds in the house and is cuddling on my lap even more.  When he first arrived he only wanted to lay down on the cool floor tiles. Joe has settled down quite a bit although he is still active and if he doesn’t get enough exercise he tends to look for mischief.  Joe loves to go anywhere especially if its in the car.  He loves to go visit and loves to have visitors.  On our walks he’s in heaven when the kids at the park surround and fuss over him. He very good with kids lapping up their attention with a wagging tail but doesn’t jump up on them.  Joe enjoys helping around the house especially making beds and vacuuming.  This big sweetheart loves to be vacuumed and brushed although he barely sheds. Joe also enjoys gardening especially if he gets to nibble on some of the vegetables. He now lets me clean his ears with little fuss although doing his nails still takes two people.  There isn’t much more I can say about this big boy other than he is an absolute sweetheart.

July 4, 2018 – Joe continues to be a joy to foster.  This sweet boy is very affectionate and has a very distinct personality.  He is stubborn and a little mischievous and he is a constant source of  entertainment.  I really don’t understand why this joyful pug is so overweight.  Joe is the least food obsessive pug I have every had.  Don’t get me wrong if you give him food he will eat it but he never begs and he never acts like he is starving and hasn’t eaten for weeks like most pugs I know.  At dinner time I have to take his toy away from him and show him that dinner is ready which he gobbles up readily, but unlike most pugs he isn’t constantly reminding me  an hour ahead it is dinner time.  When our family sits down to dinner he is usually on the sofa sucking, (yes I said sucking) his stuffy like a puppy.  This boy is toy obsessed.  Yesterday morning I found him on my dining room table.  He jumped up on top of one of the dog crates and jumped on the table because he some how knew a toy was on the table.  The day before Joe was climbing on the back of the recliner trying to get over the half wall in the kitchen to get a toy that had been left on the kitchen table.  Joe is very resourceful when he wants his toys.  Joe has been finding the heat very hard.  Walks have been much shorter and he walks much slower even with a cooling jacket on.  Fortunately he appears to enjoy the pool and has been cooling off as well as getting a bit of exercise in the pool I have just for the pugs.  Joe has also proved to be quite a good swimmer.

June 21, 2018 – Joe went to Rehab Fur Your Pet this afternoon and, he is delighted to announce he weighed in at 29.8lbs.  Joe continues to be a joy to foster and, he is becoming a real snuggle pug.  He gets hot quickly so he likes to keep his butt on my lap and then he stretches the rest of his body over the armrest of the sofa and across the end table knocking off anything in his way.  Joe loves to watch T.V.  His eyesight appears to be very good as he barks at any animal he sees on the screen even if it just flashes on for a second.  This sweet boy is very sociable and wants to greet every person and dog we see.  He will whine and cry and drag me across the park to meet the group of pups playing there.  He still doesn’t play with other dogs but he definitely enjoys being around them.  Joe will guard his toys and will growl and nip if one of the resident pugs gets too close but he seems to be fine in all other circumstances even around food.  He is fed right along with his foster brothers and he always finishes first.  He will watch for the others to finish and then check out their bowls just in case something is left in the bowl.  For a hefty boy, Joe is not food obsessed.  Like all pugs, he loves to eat but he doesn’t beg for food.  Joe loves to go shopping especially if the store has open bins of chewies that he can sneak a taste of.  Joe gets extremely excited to go in the car and will whine and jump around and will dash out of the door when we arrive at our destination so we use a seat belt clip to keep him safe.

June 10, 2018 – Joe is an adorable 31lbs (down 3lbs) of energy. This is boy loves to play and is very toy motivated. Even though he lost most of his front teeth during his dental procedure, Joe likes nothing better than a good game of tug of war and let me tell you, this pug is strong. Joe needs a family that will provide him with a lot of stimulation. Despite his size, he is a high energy dog. He is not a dog that would be happy sleeping away the day. Joe gets very excited when his harness comes out although he hates putting it on over his head. He has learned to sit and is learning to wait when we go to open the door. As soon as he sees my hand reach for the door, he plops his butt right on the floor. Waiting for the OK to go out or in a door is a little more challenging but, he is definitely learning. Joe is walking much better on the leash and we can walk him with the resident pugs very nicely. Joe is a power walker. He just wants to go. We practically have to jog to keep up with him. He will stop to smell or pee occasionally but he is not a pug that wants to go for a leisurely stroll. Last night, he went on a pack walk with dogs of all sizes and dispositions and had a ball. Joe doesn’t socialize or play with other dogs but he seems very interested when he sees them. The only thing that seems to slow this sweet boy down is the heat. The few warm days we have had have definitely affected his energy levels while he is outside. It is sad to see because he loves to be outside. His ability to cope with warm weather will improve as he continues to lose weight.  Joe continues to go to hydrotherapy twice a week and he LOVES it.

May 28, 2018 – Joe has his teeth cleaned on Thursday May 24 and lost 15 teeth but I doubt that it will slow this sweet boy down. Joe is an absolutely lovable character. He loves his toys but we had to put many of the toys away (as he was destroying them) and keep out the more durable ones. However, he sits outside the room where the toys are hidden and waits for an opportunity to sneak in and grab one of the forbidden toys. Joe is a very vocal pug and will throw a tantrum, scream and bite the leash and shake it if I make him wait to go out the door or get into the car. This big boy even managed to pull right out of his harness. He is slowly learning patience. Joe is an extremely affectionate boy, his tail rarely stops wagging and once he loses some weight I’m sure he’ll be a wonderful cuddler. He tries to sit on my lap but he gets hot very quickly and goes to find a cooler place to lay down. Joe gets along well with the resident pugs and likes to be with them but he seems confused when they try to get him to play. Joe is a little possessive of his toys but is also respectful and will not try to take a toy from his foster brothers. Joe has settled really well into his new environment and no longer needs a belly band and when I go out he lies by the front door and waits for me to come home. Joe is a joy to have around. Joe has started hydrotherapy sessions yesterday, that should help him to slowly and smoothly lose all those extra lbs.

May 11, 2018 – Joe came in a little over a week ago.  He was found stray and never claimed by his owner.  Joe is extremely overweight and he is neutered. He is 34lbs.  We have started him on a reduced balanced diet and regular short daily walks.  Joe is a sweet boy with a tail that is always wagging.  He gets along very well with other dogs. Joe will be going to the vet in the coming week for a complete check up.

EDDIE

Age: DOB Jan 26, 2018
Adoption Fees: $500

August 10, 2018 – Eddie is going to his forever home in Burlington, ON on Tuesday August.

August 5, 2018 – Eddie continues to become a very smart boy.  He already knows a few commands and loves to play and run with other dogs.

July 25, 2018 – If you are looking for a smart active puppy, Eddie is your guy.  Please come and meet him this Saturday from 11 to 3 at Pet Valu @250 Greenbank.

July 17, 2018 – Eddie was neutered today.  He was cryptorchid (one testicle in his abdomen) but the surgery went very well.  Eddie is now 16lbs.  He has stitches to be removed in 2 weeks – he will have to remain calm for that time….then he will be up for adoption.

July 16, 2018 – Eddie has been a great pup since his arrival! He either has lots of energy or he is fast asleep- those are his only two settings. He is, after all, a puppy. During his energetic moods, he is eager to learn behaviour and new tricks, go for a walk and sniff everything, cautiously meet new friends (dogs and humans) and he loves to run!  Eddie has a healthy appetite and eats twice a day. He originally was fed using a dog bowl that is best for fast eaters but, after a few days, he slowed down and he is now fed with a regular bowl. Previously, Eddie was living with other dogs and his fast eating was likely instinct to be sure he had his food before anyone could steal it. Eddie sleeps on the big bed at night and has been sleeping very well overnight. He hasn’t woken us up too early for breakfast or to go outside and seems to have adapted mostly to our schedule.
When we are out, he is in his crate. He protests for about 3 mins once in his crate but, once you leave the house he settles down. He has not destroyed any beds since living with us after previously going through 3 we were told. He does like to chew right now but, he has not chewed any of our personal items (so far). We leave chew toys out and Himalayan chews for his chewing urges and this seems to help, especially when he is in his crate. We are confident that eventually he can be trusted to be out of his crate in our absence and we plan to try leaving him in the kitchen with his bed to start. Eddie is very clever! We have seen so much growth and potential in him since his arrival. Eddie can sit, shake a paw, hi-five, and stay (short distances and sometimes if you turn your back). He is very much food and praise driven. Eddie is working on fetch and his recall at home and when on walks with the lead. We are hopeful to be able to take him to off-leash dog parks with fencing. We are also working on not getting him to jump up on people and sometimes kitchen chairs. He is very fast and loves to run at the dog park with other dogs and he can easily catch up to the dogs with twice his stride.

Upon arriving, he was very scared of all dogs when we would go for walks and would practically “screams” and backs up or tries to run the opposite way when they get close. We take him for many short and longer walks during different times of the day and different routes so he can get more comfortable. We even took him to a farmer’s market so he could experience a somewhat “busy” environment with lots of people, smells, kids, and other dogs. He did great! He is now much more curious about other dogs and humans and waits for them to approach. He can still be a bit shy and occasionally screams if a big dog makes a sudden movement in his direction but, we boost his confidence with lots of pats between him and the other dogs and in a very short amount of time he has made a new friend! He is also a bit shy when people want to pet him. But, similar to the above when we tell him it’s ok and get down on his level he warms up right away. Often making more than one person’s day with his cuteness. He sits patiently when you put his harness on. He is still learning how to walk with us on the lead but, he is getting so much better than the first few days. He loves to sniff and explore. He is usually exhausted after even a short walk as he is taking in so much. He generally likes being outside, even if it’s only on the balcony to look out. He is house trained and lets us know he needs to go out by staring and whining at his harness or sometimes waits at the door to go outside. He doesn’t seem bothered in the car. We have a soft crate in the backseat and when he goes in it he just lies down straight away and same if we have him in the front seat with or without a passenger.
Eddie is getting neutered on Tuesday July 17, 2018.
Eddie has been a lot of fun so far and we are so proud of his accomplishments in such a short time.

July 4, 2018 – Eddie is doing very well.  He is going to a new foster family as of today and he is getting neutered on July 17.

June 16, 2018 – Eddie continues to get even better when we are on walks, he likes to lead the pack and is very proud when doing so. He does have to be in the lead of the other dogs or he wants to keep turning around to either see where they are or engage in play.  When meeting new people he barks and will shy away until he takes a sniff and deems them worthy of his attention lol. He loves the freedom to roam in the yard to play with his adoptive Newfoundland Gracie, these two are inseparable. He would do very well with other animals in the home to play with. Eddie eats well but still has to be watched while the other dogs are eating as he likes to help himself to their bowls. So we are still on constant watch even when we remove the bowls once they are done, he likes to scoot in and see if anything was left behind. When he winds down for the evening he loves to snuggle with one of us, and when it’s time for bed he goes directly in his cage with no prompting. He sleeps through the night and is up and ready to go by 5am!  Eddie is a very fast little dog! He would be excellent in agility training! He is the fastest dog in our brood at the moment and has our dogs on the run! They love it!Eddie is a joy to foster and has integrated well with our other dogs, especially Gracie!

May 29, 2018 – Eddie continues to get better on walks; he likes to lead the pack and is very proud when doing so. He has been introduced to other dogs and is quick to engage in friendly play.
When meeting new people, Eddie tends to shy away at first but again once he gets a few sniffs he loves the attention. He loves the freedom to roam in the yard to play with the resident Newfoundland.  Eddie eats well but still has to be watched while the other dogs are eating as he likes to help himself to their bowls. So we have adopted a plan to mitigate that by removing bowls once they are done and then they go directly outside to play. When Eddie winds down for the evening, he loves to snuggle with one of us, and when it’s time for bed, he goes directly in his cage and sleeps through the night and is up and ready to go by 5am!  Eddie is a joy to foster and has integrated well with our other dogs, especially our Newfoundland.  Eddie is getting neutered on July 26 and will be available for adoption soon after.

May 15, 2018 – Eddy is doing absolutely fantastic! He is a sweet and very lovable boy.  He loves his numerous cuddles throughout the day and is showing his true colors now as he is the instigator in rumbles with the resident dogs. Eddie is tenacious when he goes after the others, and thinks he’s 100lb dog, but they are very patient with him.  Walking on the leash is a work in progress as he tends to want to be in the lead, but he’s getting better and learning after correction to walk beside us. He tires a bit as he’s so small he tries very hard to keep up with the resident dogs.  Eddie is 98% house trained! He goes to the door and whines a bit to be let out! He occasionally has an accident still but overall he’s fabulous with letting us know his needs. Not much has changed in that department.  Eddie is still definitely a chow hound! This little guy loves to eat!  We have to monitor him while eating or else he eats everyone else’s food while they are still eating.  Eddie sleeps thru the night but is an early riser! No matter what time he goes to bed he’s up at 5am every morning! He still sleeps in his crate and goes in it when he’s ready for bed.  Eddie has the weirdest yawn!  It’s a long squeal then a snort.  We’ve also discovered that he is the fastest running dog in this brood! He can turn on a dime at full throttle.

May 11, 2018 – Eddy is doing very well and is fully comfortable with his environment. He has created a bond with the resident newfoundland Gracie the two are inseparable. He loves to play outside and go for walks especially now that spring has finally arrived. Eddie is doing well on the leash during walks but can be a little too excited about the whole idea. He has made a very positive impact on our family and loves to curl up with anyone and have a nap.
We are still working on his eating habits i.e him wanting to eat everyone else’s food! He is gradually learning his manners and knows to sit, stay, come and no. He’s a very special little puppy!  Eddie is now 10lbs.

April 9, 2018 – Eddie is born on January 26, 2018.  He is a pug mixed with a Chihuahua and a cocker spaniel.  Eddie is about 5lbs and full of beans.  Eddie has received his first 2 sets of vaccination but will go to the vet in a few weeks to get his rabies shot.  Eddie will be neutered when he will be around 5 month old.

BARNEY

Age: 6 years old
Adoption Fees: $400

May 19, 2018 – Barney is gone to his forever home.

May 11, 2018 – Barney is an incredibly happy Pug. He is very gentle with playing and really just craves love and attention. He loves butt rubs and neck scratches. The hardest training hurdle is he gets very excited when he sees another dog and barks a lot. He is fine when he gets close and sees that his “people” trust the other dog. Barney is fully house trained he hasn’t wore a belly band in weeks. No accidents and no marking. He loves his raw food diet. We have been training Barney to take treats gently because he has been a bit of a snapping turtle when he arrived.  Barney loves walks and loves being outside. He walks well on leash.  Barney sleeps in his bed on the floor and occasionally moves to a spot on the floor near the resident pug. He would do well in a home with another pug as he really enjoys the companionship throughout the day. Barney doesn’t like if you put your hand over his head to reach over to his back. He cowers like he thinks he will be hit. He is better approached by being pet on his neck first. He is more and more secure each week. When he feels more safe he wants to snuggle more and for longer periods.

April 25, 2018 – Barney had his teeth cleaned today and he lost 9.  He was microchipped too and everything went very well.

April 6, 2018 – Barney came in today.  He was surrendered by his owner.  Barney is 6 years old and he is neutered.  He will be going to the vet this coming Tuesday for a complete check up.  Come meet Barney at the April 8 Spring Paw Thaw at Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre @Britannia Park in Ottawa
