May 30, 2017 – We have decided to send Mindy to a registered all-breed rescue to give her all the best chances to get adopted. After being with us for almost 2 months, we have received 0 application and we thought it was in Mindy’s best interest to get the exposure and the chance to find her forever home.
April 1, 2017 – Mindy came in today. She was surrendered by her owner because of allergies in the family. Mindy is born on June 30, 2008. She is spayed and up to date in her vaccination. She will be visiting the vet this week for a complete check up and she will be at the Spring Paw Thaw tomorrow, April 2, at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre from 12PM to 3PM. Come and meet this beautiful girl. Mindy is a Pug/Min Pin.

March 26, 2017 – Plum is gone to her forever home.
March 14, 2017 – Plum is a very sweet little girl. She’s 21lbs and she loves to go for walks. Plum is housetrained and will ask to go outside when she needs it. Please come and meet Plum on Saturday March 18, 2017 at WAG Pet Café & Lounge on Bank Street in Ottawa from 11AM to 3PM. Plum gets along well with other dogs.
March 6, 2017 – What a change with this pretty girl since her bladder stone was removed. With every day that passes she is improving and can hold herself, for a few hours, prior to going out to urinate. Plum is housetrained and will let you know when she has to go out by going to the door and whining. Her foster parents have her on a schedule whereas she goes out every couple of hours in order to avoid any accidents in the house. As time goes on she will be able to hold herself longer and longer. Plum walks well on a leash and enjoys going for walks. She will be the perfect walking companion for someone who enjoys daily walks. She has no interest in toys, just you. Now that she is feeling much better, she is a very happy and playful gal as confirmed by her wagging tail. She loves attention and will sit next to you encouraging you to pet her and maybe give her a belly rub. She gets along with most dogs but wants to be the queen bee of the house. She would be happy as the only pet or in a home where there is a submissive or passive dog. Plum is scheduled to have dental surgery on Tuesday, March 7. Once this procedure is done she will be able to enjoy eating. At this time she is picky about what she eats. Plum is not a fan of wet food or soft kibble. We have been encouraging her to eat by pouring beef broth of her kibble. When giving her anything by hand, place in the palm of your hand to give it to her. Due to her excitement she will accidently nip you when getting food from your fingers. Because of this behaviour, a home with kids over 8 is recommended. Should you wish to adopt this precious girl, make room in your bed, as she will lay next to you all night long.
February 28, 2017 – Plum came in last week. She is a pug X. The vet said she would probably be around 8 years old. She was found stray in the Kingston region. Plus came to UMWPR with a HUGE bladder stone that was removed on Thursday February 23; she was also spayed on that day and had her hind legs dew claws removed at the same time. Plum is a very sweet girl who gets along very well with other dogs. Plum will need to have her teeth cleaned and many extractions when she goes for her dental procedure in a few weeks. Stay tuned for more o this sweet girl and come and meet her at Pet Valu – Westgate Mall in Ottawa this Saturday March 4 from 11 to 3pm.

April 25, 2017 – Bear is having a fantastic week. Twice in the last 2 days he has gone to the door to tell us he needs to go out and then has a pee and poo when we go out. So proud of him. There have been no more accidents in the home since the trainer came. We are still wearing the pee pad but he is definitely getting the hang of this. Outside, Bear poops & pees on every single walk and enjoys lots of praise when he does so. 4 times this past week, we have met dogs and he has learned to greet properly and stay calm. Still an issue if he sees a big dog. And he can spot one nearly 2 blocks away but we just walk from the situation as directed by the trainer and he calms down. Bear is improving on the leash and had our “door routine nearly down pat.” It definitely doesn’t take him as long to get him to a calm state before we leave the home. He still requires a fair amount of leash corrections but has started looking to the human for direction more. He’s very overwhelmed on walks still and therefore needs shorter walks that are varied. As far as meal times go, Bear waits for the resident pug to finish eating her bowl before he receives his. He actually instinctually “sits pretty” the whole time waiting. Then he scarfs it in pretty fast.
March 29, 2017 – Bear is doing fantastic! He is fully house trained. He loves his routine and is very smart. He is learning to heel on the leash and is far more calm now. He is a very happy dog now. We have noticed such an incredible change with him. He is so trusting and playful. He and the resident pug Lucy snuggle together and play for long stretches of time with all the toys. He is good with small dogs, but barks at large dogs. He is good with kids and loves attention. He loves being told he is a good boy and responds very well to positive reinforcement. He would make a great addition to any home that is willing to keep him in regular routine and give him lots of play time and attention.
March 27, 2017 – Bear continues to make progress in the housetraining dept. He’s a very sweet boy who just wants to be loved. We are pretty sure that Bear has some Jack Russell Terrier in him…..he loves to jumps and jumps in the air and on the kitchen table if he has the chance. Bear will be at the upcoming April 2 Spring Paw Thaw at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre. Come and meet this sweet boy.
March 14, 2017 – Bear is a sweet little boy. He is coming to all our Adoption Awareness Event and is quite popular but still looking for his forever home. If you are active and would like a sweet little cuddler too, Bear is for you. Bear is not 100% housetrained but we are working on this and he’s making progress every day.
March 4, 2017 – Bear was at our Adoption Awareness Day yesterday and he did very well. He gets along very well with other dogs and is an active little boy. Bear is now ready to be adopted. He is doing very well in the housetraining dept but will need someone who will continue to work with him to make him totally housetrained.
February 28, 2017 – Bear loves to snuggle and will jump up on your lap in a flash. He is getting along well with his foster brothers. He loves to play with stuffed & squeaky toys, growls at them and shakes them. He engages with his younger foster brother and last night they where even doing zoomies in the living room! He gobbled up his kibble last night in true pug form. After dinner he settled into his crate for the evening. I leave the door open during the day and he will often go in there to have a nap. He slept in there no problem last night. He needs some work walking on a leash and with his house training but he will slowly get better and better every day.
February 25, 2017 – Bear is a sweet Chug (Chihuahua/pug). He’s 1 year old and was surrender by his owner who didn’t have time to train him. Bear is not neutered and not up to date in his vaccination. He is going to the vet this week to get neutered and get up to date in his vaccination and microchipped.

February 11, 2017 – Dante is 4 years old. He is a Pug X French Bulldog. He is neutered and is about 45 lbs. Dante was surrendered by his owner as he was getting jealous of the newborn baby so a home with kids over 8 would be ideal. Dante will be going to the vet in the coming week for a complete check and to be brought up to date in his vaccination. Stay tuned for more on Dante as we get to know him.

March 22, 2017 – Memphis is gone to his forever home. He will share his life with a pug brother.
March 6, 2017 – Due to an emergency case coming into the vet clinic on Thursday, March 2, Memphis’ dental procedure was rescheduled for Monday, March 6th. He will be able to eat without pain when he recovers from his surgery. Memphis likes to take his time while eating and prefers to graze throughout the day. This will be difficult should there be other dogs in the home. He will have to be encourage to eat scheduled meals. This big boy is the most gentle and loving pug ever. He just goes with the flow and allows his foster brother & sister run the show. All he wants is to be next or near you and if he gets the opportunity he will be lying across or sitting on your lap.. He is not interested in toys or playing fetch. Most favorite pass time is lying on the couch watching TV or sleeping. Memphis enjoys the cool fresh air and gets excited when you are taking him for a walk. He walks well on a leash and takes his time to look for that perfect spot to do his business. This big boy will have to be kept inside in the A/C during the warm months so he does not become overheated. Memphis travels well in the car. Restricted to the back seat with a harness attached to the seat belt is advisable. This gentle giant is looking for a calm forever home, not too overwhelming, where he can live out the rest of his senior years in bliss.
February 27, 2017 – Memphis is doing very well and is getting his teeth cleaned this Thursday. Come and visit Memphis at Pet Valu @Westgate Mall in Ottawa on Saturday March 4 from 11 to 3pm.
February 21, 2017 – This loving boy, who thinks he’s a lap dog, is a pleasure to foster. He gets along with other dogs and enjoys the attention he receives from people. He loves to be held, lying across your lap when you are sitting, or snuggled next to you on the couch or in the big bed. Any loving attention is welcomed. Memphis walks well on leash but does pull at times when he is on a mission. He prefers to run free in the backyard and would love to have a dog brother or sister to play & cuddle with. Memphis is fully house trained and will let you know when he has to go out by barking or sitting at the door. When you ask him if he needs to go out he gets excited and starts barking & jumping. He enjoys the outdoors and especially likes lying in the warm sun. Memphis would not be happy in an apartment. When Memphis wants to nap, he gets on the back of the couch in order to get a good view out the window. He does require daily exercise; water therapy would be great for this boy in order to strengthen his back end. At times, Memphis can be as playful as a puppy. Memphis does not inhale his food like most pugs. He prefers to take his time to enjoy it. He loves carrots and cucumbers. On the day of his arrival with us, Memphis weighed 28lbs. His ideal weight would be around 23lbs. Since being in rescue, he has dropped 1lb and, we will continue to work on reducing his weight until his goal is reached. When left alone for a few hours, Memphis will sleep until your return. A maximum of 5 hours alone is recommended as, like most pugs, they prefer to have someone at home with them. The family who will adopt Memphis will be very lucky to have this guy in their lives. The love you will receive from him will be immeasurable.
February 20, 2017 – Memphis went to the vet last week for a complete check and to get vaccinated and microchipped. Memphis has very bad teeth so a dental cleaning has been scheduled for February 27, 2017. More info on Memphis to be posted shortly.
February 11, 2017 – Memphis came in yesterday. He was surrendered by his owner who couldn’t care for him anymore. Memphis is neutered and he gets along well with other dogs. He’s also a big cuddler. Memphis will be going to the vet this coming Monday for a complete check up and to get up to date in his vaccination. Stay tuned for more info on Memphis as we get to know him.

February 19, 2017 – Robbie is gone to his forever home today……he will share his life with a pug brother.
February 12, 2017 – Robbie is doing very well and is not ready to be adopted. He is completely off the Gabapentin now and he is reacting very well. Robbie LOVES people and he get along well with dogs and kids.
February 7, 2017 – Robbie is doing well. He was at the vet recently to get a complete check and we discovered that he had an ear infection. He is being treated for that and we will slowly wean him from the Gabapentin. Robbie is doing very well with other dogs and loves to be around people, always greeting everybody with a wagging tail. Robbie will soon be available for adoption and will be brought up to date in his vaccination shortly.
January 31, 2017 – Robbie came in on Sunday. He was sadly surrendered by his owner. Robbie is 9 years old and he has separation anxiety. He is actually taking Gabapentin twice a day to help him. February 12, 2017 – Buffy is such a sweet girl. She’s very dedicated to her foster mom and has settled in with the cats and dog very nicely. She has gained a bit of weight over the past few weeks and is now looking very healthy, and she has the energy to match. She’s an eager beaver when her foster family comes home, hopping up and down and running around. She’s also very animated at meal times which, to be quite honest, are her very favourite times of the day. Buffy’s hips have arthritis and dysplasia, so her back legs don’t always work as they should. She copes very well and runs around the house and the back yard having lots of fun and goes up and down flights of stairs with no issues; but when she gets tired or when she’s been sitting quiet for a long time and she’s stiff her feet drag quite a bit and sometimes her back legs don’t want to work at all for very short periods of time. Buffy is house trained very well; she always urinates outside and usually poos outside too, but she seems to have some trouble holding in her poo if she hasn’t been out in a while. Buffy is a little cuddler who always wants to be sitting next to her person or sleeping with them in the big bed. She is very quiet (except a meal times, when she make it clear with her woofs that she loves her food) and respectful of her people and the other pets. She is a wonderful and dedicated companion.
February 7, 2017 – Buffy had a good time at the UMWPR Adoption Day this past Saturday. She’s a sweet girl who loves everybody. Buffy is very mobile despite the bad arthritis she has in her hind legs. She is slowly gaining weight as she came to us emaciated. Buffy is a very loving dog who gets along well with everyone (dogs and cats). Buffy will need to stay on hip/joint supplement forever. The cost is about $80 for 6 months. Buffy will soon be available for adoption.
January 25, 2017 – Buffy went to the vet for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in her vaccination. She has lost 5lbs in the past year. She has hip dysplasia and most probably a pinched nerve in her spine. Buffy can walk very fast but sometimes drags her hind legs. We have started her on Tri-Acta to hopefully help her gain mobility and feel more comfortable in her movements. She has also been put on pain medication to see if it will help. Buffy is a very sweet girl who loves people and gets along well with other dogs. Buffy has a huge appetite and she should be gaining the weight she has lost in the next couples of weeks. If not, she will be back at the vet for more tests.
January 7, 2017 – Buffy is the first pug coming into rescue in 2017. She was surrendered by her owner due to illness in the family. Buffy is spayed and she is 9 1/2 years old and she is a super sweet girl. She has settled in very well and is happy to hang out with her new foster people. She gets along well with resident dog and is ok with the cats, although she is wary of them and tries to avoid them. Buffy is very thin but she has a really good appetite and is eating and drinking very well. She is fully house trained and lets you know when she wants to go outside. Buffy definitely has some mobility issues in her back end. When she walks she sort of drags her back feet a bit. She asks to be picked up to go on the couch. She negotiates our back porch stairs with no problems, but she is nervous of the big stairs to the second floor (wood) and to the third floor (carpeted but steep), so we carry her. She sleeps in the big bed.

January 11, 2017 – Raisin is gone to her forever home near Niagara Falls…..
December 27, 2016 – Raisin has been spayed and she is now ready to be adopted. Raisin is always eager to meet new people and she is good with kids, she is trying to engage with the resident pug with no luck as the resident pug is not interested in her. Raisin loves to go for walks and she is a big cuddler. She loves to play fetch as well and will go to the door when she need t go out to do her business. If you are interested in this sweet girl, please fill out the online adoption application.
December 14, 2016 – Raisin loves to walk. She does pull but if you remind her, she will walk properly and sit when you stop. She loves lots of attention and likes to meet new people. She likes to chase the resident cats so we are working on breaking that habit. Raisin is housetrained. She likes you to keep her company while she eats and will let you pet her as much as you would like. Raisin is quite a smart girl and she is very well behaved. Raisin has been to the vet and she is in good health. She has been vaccinated and microchipped. Raisin needs a bit of training but she’s a quick learner and eager to please her people. She also seems to be great with kids. Raisin will soon be spayed and become available for adoption.
December 13, 2016 – Raisin is an exquisite pug X (we think with Boston Terrier), she’s brindle with a beautiful white patch on her chest. Raisin was found tied to a tree in a backyard. She appears to be a healthy girl. Raisin is going to the vet today for a complete check up and to get brought up to date in her vaccination and microchipped. We will then schedule her spaying surgery.
