August 24, 2018 – Freddie is gone to his forever home.
August 12, 2018 – What a week of firsts Freddie has had!! Cottage camping! He was a bit hesitant at night around the campfire but he came around in no time and enjoyed the evenings curled up in our laps. Freddie does NOT enjoy meeting large dogs when he is on leash. We have no off leash experience to speak of but he gets agitated around large dogs. This may be because he is restrained or because of a bad experience with a large dog in his past life. With small to medium sized dogs, he is good. Freddie would do best in a home with older children too due to his size, energy, and love for jumping! Freddie spent time on the deck enjoying the shade, in the cottage, on the dock and experienced swimming for the first time! He seemed to enjoy the water provided he was being held. Freddie enjoyed the cooling off! We also went for walks in the forest and spent our evenings around the campfire. Freddie slept like a champ each night. He continues to enjoy the outdoors more and more.
August 7, 2018 – Freddie continues to do so well. He really is an incredible pug!! Freddie spent a long weekend with his foster grandparents and won their hearts. He was exceptionally well behaved for them; however he did manage to steal some sardines from his foster grandpa. 😂 Freddie will be vacationing at the cottage this week for some much needed rest and relaxation with the resident pug and ourselves.
Freddie’s favourite spot is to sit on his foster grandpa’s shoulder to get a better view of the river.
August 1, 2018 – Freddie continues to do well in his foster home. Crating is going well and we discovered that Freddie is obsessed with small tennis balls. He will play and play with them. He years the fuzz off of them but doesn’t eat it then will carry the plastic ball around until it splits. When this happens we throw it out and start the process all over again. He really is such a happy and curious pug! Freddie enjoyed meeting everyone at the UMWPR adoption awareness event on July 28 at Pet Valu.
July 25, 2018 – Freddie went on his first walk at Bruce Pit tonight with the resident pug. Although he only lasted about 20 minutes due to the humidity, he performed exceptionally well on leash. Freddie enjoyed meeting new people as well as new smaller dogs, including a pug named Max, but was a bit unsure and hesitant around the larger breeds. Freddie is becoming more used to his crate during the day and enters in it even when we are at home (usually just to play with his pillow, but hey, we consider this a winning situation)! Freddie is sure to have a deep sleep this eve after all of his new adventures.
July 24, 2018 – Freddie does not do well with enclosures (he can clear a 4 feet gate). He is also quite the barker but calms down after a while. His ear infections are completely healed too. Whoever is interested in adopting Freddie must know that he is a very active dog and would not do well being left alone all day. Freddie needs to be stimulated, he needs to go for walks, play and run. Frank would be best with kids 10+ as he would jump on the younger ones and knock them down.
July 19, 2018 – Freddie continues to do well. We are working on endurance and leash training; I’m happy to say he has been able to keep up for an hour long walk! Freddie is kept separate from the resident pug during the day as he can get quite mischevious when we are away – slippers, Kleenex boxes and dishtowels are some of his favourites! Freddie likes to jump on tables, or onto dining room chairs and then onto tables so we are working on correcting this. He does not beg at the table but will remain as close as possible in case anything drops 🙂 Freddie is an incredible sleeper and such a smart little guy….he knows many commands. Freddie loves to play with the resident pug and they continue to get along very well. They will steal each other’s toys for hours just to play. Freddie is completely housetrained and there have been no accidents in the house. At night he snuggles with his foster mom on the couch. Freddie’s ear infections are clearing up nicely and we only have a few days of meds left. Freddie would love to have a forever home with a family who will be dedicated to continuing his training and who will provide him with tons of love and play. Ideally, a family with already a young dog. Some family will be very lucky to adopt this smart, handsome boy!
July 16, 2018 – Freddie is doing very well. We did some exposure therapy with Freddie this weekend as I was at a family picnic with 30 or so guests. He did very well. There was a bit of barking at the start and we found that he has more of an issue meeting new people when on leash versus when off leash (in the house loose vs being walked on leash outside). And he is more afraid/more vocal of/with men than women. By the end of the picnic he was greeting everyone! It was really a breakthrough for him. Today he is pooped from having such an exciting day yesterday. He is a charmer and his ear infections are healing up nicely.
July 13, 2018 – Freddie’s vet appointment went well. He has an infection in both ears and was given meds for 10 days. They gave him the Apoquel for his allergies for 30 days (1 pill per day). He was brought up to date in his vaccination and was microchipped as well. Freddie was extremely over stimulated at the vet and barked constantly while in the waiting room. His bark seems to be worse with men than with women. He was good once they put us in a room.Freddie knows several commands including sit, lay down, bed time, stay and give (all in French). We are working on his English 🙂 At bedtime, he stays in our room otherwise he will bark at noise or should he see anyone outside. He is a good sleeper and a great eater (besides a bit of guarding his food). We separate the two pugs for mealtimes. He is a strong puller on leash so we are working on this and have seen much improvement over the last couple of days. Freddie is strong in general! He does not have long endurance for walks or play and becomes winded quickly so we are gradually increasing his activity. Freddie has a great temperament and is such a handsome little man. He has settled right in and is a big cuddle pug!
July 8, 2018 – Freddie is born in April 2015 so he is a little over 3 years old. He is neutered and has skin allergies. He is going to the vet today for a complete check up. Stay tuned for more on Freddie as we get to know him.
