FELIX

Age: 13
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

February 18, 2019 – Felix has been adopted by his foster family, he is now living with 2 pug sisters.

February 12, 2019 – Felix got his stitches removed yesterday.  We are happy to say that the tumour he had on his leg was a grade 1 mast cell tumour and the vet has likely removed the entire tumour.  This little 15lbs teddy bear is the definition of sweetness.  Felix is now looking for his forever home.

February 10, 2019 – Felix is doing so well! He gets his stitches removed on Monday from his head and left leg! They look very well healed and he is back to his old self. Felix is really enjoying his raw food diet. He dances in circles before meal time now.
He is fully house trained and does all his pees and poops outside.  Felix walks extremely well on leash. He actually prances when he walks its so cute, he is like a tiny horse. Felix loves walk time and gets excited to go out for his four walks a day.  Felix originally didn’t appear to get along very well with bigger dogs, he would bark at them a lot. But with more time and exposure to bigger dogs, he is coming around. He just needs patience and socialization.  Felix really likes spending time with the resident pugs. Felix likes to be everywhere his foster parents are. He is very affectionate and loves to be talked to.  Felix walks up and down stairs fine outside, but our indoor stairs still intimidate him. He walks up them, but not down yet. So he gets carried down the stairs and we keep them blocked off with a baby gate.  Felix is really starting to come out of his shell; he used to be very skittish and afraid. Now, if he wants something, he will try his best to let it be known. If he wants to be the one sitting next to the human, he will squeeze in there. Felix will soon be looking for his forever home; a loving home with someone who has the time to give him all the attention that he deserves.

January 29, 2019 – Felix had his dental procedure yesterday. He had 13 teeth removed and was already missing 15 teeth. He even had hair stuck in his tartar causing a very smelly mouth. Felix also had two lumps removed from his forehead and one from his front left leg. He will be on pain medication for five days and will be required to wear a cone for a full 14 days before suture removal. It was difficult to close the incision on his left leg so it will have to be watched closely. His foster sisters are also keeping close watch over him as they are both concerned for him. It also appears that Felix has no eardrum, it is unlikely that he can hear. He had his nails clipped once again while he was under sedation so they are now nice and short.  Felix is fully house trained. He has had one accident, but that’s to be expected as he gets used to his new routine and environment.  Felix has transitioned well on the raw food diet. He has been getting some herring oil and TriActa (joint & articulation support) and it seems to already be showing on his coat, it looks much healthier.  Felix will sleep in his bed with a soft blanket during the day but is very happy to also share the big bed with humans at night.  Felix is a bit skittish, could be due to his lack of hearing;  he has been through quite a bit of changes so he is still adjusting. He is a very happy and sweet boy and is still coming out of his shell. He loves to snuggle and like most pugs likes to follow you everywhere. He makes very cute purring noises when he’s snuggling you- perhaps that is how he got his name.  Though he previously lived with a cat, he did not seem to want to interact with the resident cat at the vet office for either visit and he does have a couple marks from what appears to be cat scratches. He would likely be happier in a home with no cats.  As Felix is still adjusting and coming out of his shell, he hasn’t displayed much play behaviour yet. He has sniffed some toys, but hasn’t shown any interest in them. This could all change after his mouth heals. He does like to snuggle with the resident pugs, and they seem to like him quite a bit too. Keep following Felix’s story, he will be a different pug in a few weeks!

January 28, 2019 – Felix is doing very well, he went to the groomer last week for a good bath and nail trim.  He also visited the vet for a complete check up, blood work and to get up to date with his vaccines.  Little Felix is getting his teeth cleaned today.  Felix is 15.6lbs

January 22, 2019 – Felix is an owner surrender.  He is 13 years old and he is neutered.  Felix is a very friendly little boy.  He is going to the groomer today to get a warm bath, nail trim and ear cleaning.  He will be visiting the vet this Thursday for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in his vaccination and microchipped.  Felix will need to have his teeth cleaned as his breath is terrible.  Stay tuned for more on this sweetie as we get to know him.

RAMBO

Age: 10 years old
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

February 23, 2019 – Rambo is gone to his forever home in Montreal today.

February 19, 2019 –  Rambo has a good appetite and looks forward to meals.  We’ve had to dig some paths in the backyard for those quick trips outside. He still has occasional bowel movements inside, but does well if he has a consistent routine.  He has been a bit more confident on the stairs and generally happy with our pack including being incredibly patient with our toddler.

February 10, 2019 – Not sure if it is a combination of increased confidence and improved strength but, Rambo seems to be a bit better with his mobility. He is starting to manage the stairs better – he still needs help going up, but less then before.

February 5, 2019 – Rambo is much more confident and comfortable in his foster home. He loves to be
part of the family’s routine and is comfortable around our toddler.  He is most attached to his foster mom and prefers to be close to her.
If she is out of sight, he will whine and bark (e.g. if I go upstairs and he is left behind). I will usually give him a lift up and down the stairs, so we can keep tabs on me. He also likes to sleep with us
in the bed at night. He is okay when left on his own for a few hours, and will sleep on the couch or a blanket until we get back.  He is less comfortable when it is a busy or chaotic environment. If
we have guests over, he will hang out under the dining room table until he gets used to them. He is fine when my parents come over now because he has seen them a few times. He can be a little standoff-ish with someone new until he realizes they have food and pets.  Overall, Rambo would do best in a home with minimal stairs, a quiet
environment and someone who is home a fair amount. He is a sweet boy
who is a bit timid in new situations and has mild separation anxiety.

February 3, 2019 – Rambo had his teeth cleaned on January 31 and xrays taken of his back.  He had only 4 incisors removed and the rest were cleaned and polished, the vet said he has very solid teeth.  The xrays of his back shows the last Lombard vertebrae to be crooked so not a normal shape.  That probably explains his wobbly walking and sometimes, pooping while walking.  Rambo is a shy boy but with lots of love, he will get out of his shell and be the best loyal companion for the person who will want to welcome him in their home and heart.  Rambo was at the Winter Paw Thaw this past Sunday and was walking quite fast, he is a real trooper. Rambo is now available for adoption.

January 28, 2019 – Rambo is doing very well.  He is getting along very well with the resident dogs.  He sometimes have a bit of difficulty to hold his bowel and he is going to the vet this week for xrays of his spine.  Meet Rambo this Sunday at the Winter Paw Thaw at Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre from 12h00 to 3h30PM.

January 23, 2019 – Rambo has not been a big fan of this cold snap. He will go outside only when he really has to go, but tries to hold it if he can. He can’t always tell that he needs to have a bowel movement until it comes on more urgently. Sometimes he starts going inside before we can get out. He tries his best to go outside and does not have accidents when left alone for a few hours. He loves being with his people and wants to be a part of whatever they are doing. His favourite is watching TV on the couch and cuddling in bed..or begging for scraps. He gets a little bit stressed if there are visitors or a lot of chaos, but he just avoids it by tucking himself under the dining table. He would love a quieter home where people are around most of the time, and minimal stairs since he can’t go up the stairs without help. His dental cleaning and hip/back x-rays are booked for January 31st. He has been feeling much better with his trial of Metacam in the meantime

January 15, 2019 – Rambo is becoming for comfortable here and getting used to the routine. He has had one or two bowel movements in the house if we don’t catch his timing just right, but he usually goes outside.  His MUST HAVE is sleeping on our bed at night.  He hopes that this will be the case in his furever home.  He tends to like cuddling on blankets more than dog beds.  He has been very good if we have to go out.  He only gets a bit out of sorts if we are upstairs without him since he can’t go up the stairs with his weak hind end.  Rambo went to the vet yesterday and found that a bit stressful.  He was microchipped and was brought up to date in his vaccination. The vet thought his teeth were pretty good for a pug, but he will still need a cleaning. They will also take x-rays to look at his back to see what is causing his hind end issues.  For now he will use some Metacam to help with comfort.  Rambo had a nice warm bath and nail trimming a few days ago.

January 10, 2019 – Rambo arrived yesterday. He was a little nervous at first but as soon as we started preparing dinner, there he was!  He is a real sweetheart and enjoys having his neck pet. We started him on raw food, and he was pleasantly surprised.  Rambo has a little bit of separation anxiety, so really prefers to be part of things. We did a trial of a few hours alone today (with his two fur foster siblings). He was a bit upset for a short time, but did settle down and had a snooze on a nice soft pillow.  Rambo didn’t like the crate on the first trial – he prefers having run of the place. No accidents in the house so far and he walks well on the leash. He has been patient with the resident toddler and friendly with the other dogs.  He has a weak hind end and sometimes drags his back left foot, we have started him on a joint supplement twice a day. Rambo is going the vet on Monday to assess his overall health and get up to date in his vaccination. Rambo will also go to the groomer on Saturday for a spa day!

January 9, 2019 – Rambo’s owner died of old age and he was surrendered to us.  Rambo is 10 years old and he is neutered.  He will be going to the vet this coming Monday for a complete check up.  Rambo has a bit of a wobbly back end, we will put him on joint supplements and will make him shed a few lbs in order to help him as much as possible.

BRUCE

Age: 7.5
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

January 30, 2019 – Bruce has been adopted by his foster mom. He now lives with a female pug and a stay at home mom.

January 15, 2019 – I am very proud of the little man , he was a perfect gentleman and shared his toys with the 2  visiting Goldens he sat with them to get a cookie , no bad behaviour at all .He had lots of fun playing in the enclosure with them – wonderful progress. Bruce knows that he is loved and has structure.

January 2, 2019 – Bruce’s incision looks very good, he has settled in well , still very bossy with my dogs which we are working on . Everyday 3 long walks on the property on leash. No accidents in the house. Excellent in the crate at night in my room . He is rewarded with a favorite Kong laced with peanut butter when he goes in .He is very loving and very much a lap dog . His forever home should be someone working from home or retired. Bruce is very busy and very smart, he reminds me of having a puppy; you have to know where he is at all times. His personality is very Beagle with the sweetness of a Pug.

December 30, 2018 – Bruce is recovering well from his surgery and he is eating with appetite and pooping normally.  Bruce will stay in foster care until he can get his teeth cleaned in 4 to 6 weeks.  Bruce is learning to be a gentleman.  He was used to be an only boy and can be a bit possessive of his toys.  He loves to go outside and enjoys the warmth of a cosy bed.

December 22, 2018 – Bruce came to us today and had a surgery to remove chocolate papers stuck in his intestine.  The vet removed about 25 papers that created a ball and were stuck in Bruce’s small intestine.  Bruce is 7.5 years old and he is neutered.  We believe that Bruce is a pug X.

ZOWIE

Age: 9
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

February 23, 2019 – Zowie is gone to her forever home in Hamilton, ON today.

February 10, 2019 – Zowie’s check up following her soft palate surgery went very well. She recovered very quickly from the surgery and within days she was better than ever. We have been for several long walks on the few days that the weather permitted and she was full of energy. This sweet angel was always a fast walker but now she wants to run and her breathing is undetectable, no wheezing sounds or panting. Outdoors, she seems to have an abundance of energy and shows no sign of tiring. Yesterday, we were outside for close to an hour. Inside, she is a pretty quiet little girl and will occasionally play with her foster brothers, but is quite happy entertaining herself, chewing a Nylabone or playing with a stuffy. She doesn’t mind if you throw the toy for her a few times but mostly, she just wants you to watch her play by herself. She is very entertaining as she whines and cries as she chews, sucks or shakes her toy. Zowie has made a break through. She will now play with a variety of stuffed toys not just the ones that are as big as she is. She now helps herself to the toys out of the toy box. Zowie is a sweet little pug who is not overly affectionate with people she doesn’t know but, will bond very well with her forever family. The first thing she does every morning is check the house to see who is home before going out and then having her breakfast.

January 28, 2019 – Zowie had her soft palate shorten last Friday and she is recovering VERY well.  She was ready for dinner the same night….Zowie is going back to the vet in 2 weeks for a recheck and she will then become available for adoption. Meet Zowie this coming Sunday at the Winter Paw Thaw at Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre from 12h00 to 3:30PM.

January 15, 2019 – Zowie continues to be a delight to foster.  Her confidence is growing and I no longer need to coax her to cuddle with us on the sofa.  She is still an independent little pug but when she wants to cuddle she has no hesitation about climbing over her foster brothers to get on my lap. She frequently uses one of her foster brothers as a head rest and doesn’t mind when they in turn use her as a pillow.  Zowie loves to have her ears or her chest scratched .   This little darling also loves adventures, whether it is a walk, a car ride or a little shopping.  She is great in the car only barking when we reach our destination.  She has no separation anxiety when left alone in the house and has full run of the home.  She is glad to see us when we return especially when it is close to dinner time and barks a little at the door.  She may be taking her queues from her foster brothers but I’m certain she would adapt quickly to a working family as long as she gets a couple of good walks a day and some stimulating play time when her family is home.  Zowie may take a little time to warm up to her new family, but there is nothing more heartwarming than when this sweet little girl climbs confidently onto your lap.  Zowie is getting her soft palate surgery on January 25.

January 2, 2019 – Zowie continues to do well.  She recovered very quickly from her dental and was soon back to eating dry kibble, playing with her stuffies and chewing her Nyla bones.  Zowie is a very attentive listener and enjoys being talked to.  Her favourite phrases are “Are you hungry” and “Do you want to go for a walk”.  When she hears those words her head will snap around even if she is sound asleep at the time and she will stare, unmoving at you with her incredibly expressive eyes until you follow through. Zowie loves to go for walks and doesn’t seem to mind the cold as long as she has her boots on.  She tries to hide when she sees the boots come out but once she puts them on she if fine with them. Zowie has really come to love walking.  When she first arrived our walks were more sniffing and peeing but she has become quite the power walker and usually leads her foster brothers.  Zowie is extremely food motivated and will only perform her tricks if she believes you have a treat in your pocket.  This sweet girl had a really good Christmas and although a little unsure enjoyed unwrapping the gifts Santa left for her.  Zowie is a sweet girl but timid.  She is nervous of the vacuum cleaner, loud noises or any unexpected movements.

December 15, 2018 – Zowie had her teeth cleaned yesterday and she had 14 removed and was already missing 10.  She now has 18 teeth left in her mouth.  While performing the surgery, the vet confirmed what we already knew; Zowie will need to have her soft palate shorten as it’s very long and makes her get tired easily not to mention that she can be very loud when she breathes.  This surgery will be performed in about 6 weeks.  In the meantime, she is back to her foster home and was happy to see the resident pugs again.

December 11, 2018 – Zowie is settling in nicely. She has started to play with toys although, no matter how hard I try to entice her with the assortment of smallers stuffies we have, this unique little girl will only play with stuffed animals that are as large as she is. She also enjoys an occasional chew on a Nyla bone. Zowie has also engaged in a few games of chase with the resident pugs. Zowie however, is a little timid and uncertain when one of her foster brothers climb into a dog bed with her. With a little encouragement, she is getting braver about climbing around the boys to get onto my lap. Zowie is very good at putting on a coat and boots to go outside and so far, the cooler temperatures haven’t been a problem with her. Some days, she walks very well but other days, she is much more interested in just sniffing and peeing. Zowie does however bark and lunge at large dogs on our walks or any dog if she is being held. So far she has responded well to correction. Zowie went to see Santa on the weekend and was a very good girl in the store and didn’t react to the many dogs waiting to see Santa.
Zowie for the most part is an extremely well-behaved girl. She listens well and knows many commands. She has adapted to her new routine well although, I believe she would like an earlier bedtime. Most nights around 10:30, even if she is sleeping on my lap, she will get up and go into her crate. The other night, the door was shut and she sat and waited until I opened the door so she could go in.  Zowie is getting her teeth cleaned on December 14 and the vet will then assessed if she will need to have her soft palate shorten as her breathing is quite noisy.

December 3, 2018 – Zowie is a sweet girl and she is quite shy unless she thinks there is food involved; like most pugs she is food obsessed.  So far, she has pretty much preferred to be left alone but if we pet her chest, she lifts her front leg so she can receive a sitting belly rub.  Zowie is crate trained and, when we put her dog bed in the crate, she went in on her own and stayed for about 10 minutes and spent the night in the crate without a peep.  Zowie, we have discovered is quite talented.  If she thinks there is the possibility of a treat, she will stand up and walk on her hind legs.  She also knows sit, shake a paw, down, leave it and take it.  When told to stay out of the kitchen last night while we had dinner, she sat patiently in the doorway and needed no correction unlike one of her foster brothers. We have taken her for a couple of short walks and noticed she breathes very noisily.  She was better this morning, less stressed I guess, but still quite loud.  Zowie has a few lbs to lose to reach her healthy weight.

December 1, 2018 – Zowie was surrendered because of allergies in the family.  She is 9 years old and she is spayed.

MOOSE

Age: 11 years old
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

January 5, 2019 – Moose is gone to his forever home today, he will share his life with a very friendly black pug brother who is also 11.

December 15, 2018 – Moose had his teeth cleaned yesterday.  He had 16 extracted and was already missing 6 so he now has 20 teeth in his beautiful mouth.  He had 2 little tumour removed from his gum.  Moose is back to his foster home for a smooth recovery, he shall be available for adoption in the coming week.

December 10, 2018Moose is doing great! He’s been going for lots of walks trying to get in shape! He’s making himself right at home with the resident dogs and is always curious what they’re up to. He also loves to cuddle ! As soon as you sit on the couch with a blanket, he’s right there waiting for you to give him permission to sit with you. He’s a very sweet and loving boy. He goes for his dental work this Friday and he can’t wait.

November 26, 2018 – Overnight he did really well!! We had him in the crate for a bit but he really didn’t like it so after waiting it out for a while we decided to take him out of the crate and then he went and slept in his bed.  No accidents in the house either !
He gets along well with the resident dogs. They all follow each other around the house.

November 24, 2018 – Moose came in today. He was sadly surrendered because of allergies in the family.  Moose is going to be 11 on December 12.  Moose is a happy go lucky boy, he will be going to the veterinarian on Monday for a complete check up, blood work, vaccination & microchip.
Stay tuned for more on this sweet boy.

HARVEY

Age: 6 years old
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

January 6, 2019 – Harvey is gone to his forever home today…(:

December 30, 2018 – Harvey has had no accidents in the house, and will let you know if he would like to go out. He interacts well with dogs, he follows them around and likes to smell them.  Harvey is learning from the other dogs how to play. I don’t think he was ever comfortable enough to play in the past.  Harvey loves being outside and loves to walk.  When Harvey first arrived, he slept on a dog bed beside my bed; he has now figured out how to jump up on the bed and loves to sleep up on the big bed.  Harvey does not like to be left alone. Harvey does not like his face washed or anything up close to his face. He loves people. He loves the bath tub.  Harvey does not even bother with our cat at all, no chasing or barking.  We had two young children here at Christmas and Harvey did not bother with them.  Harvey is just starting to want to be cuddled and petted, I am not sure how much he had that in the past.  Since Harvey was neutered on December 21, he has not tried to pee in the house and the humping has calmed down a lot.

December 9, 2018 – Another great week with Harvey, he loves to play and chase the other resident pugs. During quiet time he will lay beside me on the couch rest. Harvey was at the vet last week; he is now up to date on his vaccines and was prescribed ear drops to help out with his ear infection.  Harvey continues to come out go his shell more and more each day.
He has a great temperament and personality and continues to be accident free in the house as he is letting us know when he needs to go outside.

November 28, 2018 – Wow what a difference a week makes. Since Harvey has started his antibiotics, he is a different dog. We have removed his cone and he is no longer scratching. He is always running around with a big smile on his face and is enjoying hanging out with the other resident pugs.  Harvey is now going up and down the stairs on his own.  Harvey enjoys walking and looks forward to them. When Harvey needs to go out, he will let you know. So far no accidents in the house.  Harvey does like to be around humans, he is always following me around the house. He is such a sweetheart.  Harvey is going to the vet on December 7 to be brought up to date in his vaccination and he is getting neutered on December 21.

November 26, 2018 – Harvey is doing and looking 1 million times better than when he came to us 10 days ago.  Meet Harvey on Saturday December 1 at Rens Pets on Strandherd Drive in Barrhaven from 11AM to 3PM.  Harvey will soon get neutered and be available for adoption shortly after.

November 21, 2018 – The heart on Harvey’s forehead Is a real indication of how sweet he is. He is adjusting very well to all the changes of living in a different house. When he is feeling playful he likes to chase the ball with the other resident pugs. Harvey does not bother with the cat at all. He is very reluctant to tackle the stairs in the house and to the house. He must be carried each time. He loves being outside. So far so good Harvey has had no accidents in the house, and will let us know when he needs to go out. He went to the vet today, and he was such a good boy.  Harvey got a prescription to help with his itchy skin. I have already seen a little improvement with him and we are able to keep the cone off of him for over 20 minutes.  He was prescribed antibiotics for 2 weeks and drop for his eyes to clear the infection.  Harvey’s neutering surgery will be scheduled in a few weeks.

November 17, 2018 – Harvey came in today.  He was surrendered by his owner who couldn’t attend his medical care.  Harvey has bad skin condition, ear infection and green puss is coming from his eyes.  He will be going to the vet on Tuesday November 20 for a complete check.  Harvey is not neutered.  We will start him on raw food today and he already had a nice medicated bath at the groomer and his long nails were cut.  Harvey has to wear a cone for now as he is very itchy and would scratch his ears until they bleed.

MARLEE

Age: 9
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

November 21, 2018 – Marlee is gone to her forever home today.

November 15, 2018 – Marlee had her teeth cleaned on Monday November 12.  She has 7 teeth left in her mouth.  She is back to her normal self and she is now available for adoption.

October 25, 2018 – Marlee arrived to us at 12.2 kg and has had her vet visit. Other than being a bit overweight, the vet says she is “the picture of health!” She is on smaller meal portions, no treats, no people food and getting out for 4-5 walks around a block a day. In only a few days her weight has reduced to 11.6 kg. The vet says she is built quite wide so it is unlikely she will be a slim pug. She has a teeth cleaning scheduled for November 12. Marlee sleeps a lot and has no accidents in the house. She will occasionally bark at the noises of neighbours coming and going or traffic noises outside. Marlee gets excited when it’s time to go out for a walk. She barks at some of the dogs on our walks and also at big vehicles such as the garbage truck. She walks well but she wants a lot of breaks. She is getting faster and, taking less breaks as the days go on. Marlee is a bit anxious in the car for a few minutes; during the first day in her foster home, she was also anxious for about an hour as she got settled. Her roommate Dorian and her are getting along well side by side but not playing with each other. She is protective of her food with Dorian but, not aggressive. We feed them on opposite sides of the gate and there is no trouble. She eats slowly. She will sit under you at the kitchen table and may start to beg but, she listens when told to “get down” and doesn’t try again. Marlee sleeps on the big bed at night and for the most part sleeps right through without any restlessness. She knows commands “Sit” “down” and “paw.” She also knows her name. She loves to be in the same room as you unless she can be on the big bed- then that is where she loves to be. Marlee doesn’t bark when we leave the house. She is kept with Dorian in the kitchen when we are out with their beds and water. We will know more about her behaviour with other dogs at the Howl.O.Ween Pawty this weekend. Marlee makes a lot of noise when she is excited or getting tired on her walk. Not unusual for a pug to be noisy though. We compare her to the Tasmanian devil. She is a loveable pug with a lot of pug to love 🙂

October 20, 2018 – Marlee came in this afternoon.  Owner surrender.  This sweet girl is born on September 30, 2009.  Marlee is spayed and gets along well with other dogs.  Stay tuned for more info on Marlee as we get to know her more.

JAZZ & TUTU

Age: 10 years old
Adoption Fees: $600 for both
Adoption Status:

December 7, 2018 – Jazz & Tutu are gone to their forever home today.  They will share their life with Rocco, the bug.

November 29, 2018Jazz had his teeth cleaned on November 27. He had 17 teeth extracted and already had 16 missing The vet said they were some of the worst they had seen. He will be so much happier now having them out. He will be on pain medication for 5 days. Jazz also had a cyst/lump removed from his forehead. He has some stitches on his head that will have to be removed in 10-14 days. He also has to wear a cone so that he wont scratch the stitches while they are healing. The cone also detracts his sister Tutu from trying to groom him. Today Jazz is doing well, a little sleepy, but getting back to his old self. Jazz and his sister continue to sleep in their big dog bed together. He’s a little shy about his haircut for the cyst removal and hopes his hair grows back fast.
Tutu missed her brother Jazz all day while he was at the vet having his teeth and lump removal. They were very happy to be reunited yesterday evening and she has been keeping close watch on him. She is giving him extra snuggles and always by his side. She isn’t a fan of the cone he’s wearing because she wants to give him kisses and comfort him, but she’s a good girl listening to her foster parents. Tutu has also switched diets from Raw to Kibble as her tummy was also not adjusting well. She loves kibble and has no trouble with it despite her tongue sometimes in the way. She is doing all her pees and poops outside and is getting used to the winter weather. Both Jazz and Tutu seem to have let their guards down even more so this week. They have been extra snuggly with their foster parents, practically glued to us. They are so smart and such good dogs. They are very excited to be available for adoption and hope someone is willing to welcome them into their home. Meet them this Saturday ate Rens Pets on Standherd Drive in Barrhaven from 11AM to 330PM.  Note that Jazz & Tutu are a bonded pair and will not be adopted separately.

November 22, 2018Jazz is doing well and is getting his teeth cleaned on November 27.  Like most pugs, Jazz is not a fan of winter, he tries really hard to not go outside and has tried to mark inside a couple times. But with some positive reinforcement he has figured it out. We’ve started walking Jazz & Tutu on separate leashes because Tutu is so bossy, she doesn’t give him enough time to pee and poop. This new arrangement allows Jazz to take his time and smell around as long as he likes. He walks well on leash and enjoys walks as long as its not too cold out. Jazz has transitioned to raw very well.  Jazz and Tutu snuggle in a big dog bed together. We make it available to them during the day as they can often be found snuggling there with toys. Jazz loves stuffed toys. He carries them around in his mouth and likes to hide them in his bed. Jazz likes chasing his foster sister around the house. Jazz has no fears other than a little skittish with loud noises on the street. He doesn’t mind the vacuum cleaner. Jazz does bark at dogs on leash but is very friendly with them up close.  At the Furry Fans night on November 19,  Jazz became very smitten with a little boy who came to visit him about three times. The third time the little boy lay on the floor on his back to play with him and Jazz laid on his tummy and snuggled him. It was so sweet people stopped to notice how gentle he is. Throughout the event many children came to visit and he crawled into their laps and gave kisses and let them pet him. Tutu had her stitches removed from her vulva cyst removal. The vet said she healed very nicely. Many people at the Furry Fans night couldn’t believe she was 10years old because she is so full of life. Tutu staged a huge protest against an early winter. She refused to pee and then peed indoors. With a lot of patience and positive reinforcement, she has figured it out and does her business outside.  Tutu loves walks, when it isn’t too cold out. She is bossy and wants to be the leader of the pack. We walk her on a separate leash now so that her brother has time to do his business. Tutu has transitioned to raw food.  Tutu sleeps with her brother Jazz in a big dog bed. She lets him gets settled first before she finds her spot on the bed. Tutu loves to play. She likes stuffed animals and loves when people interact with her. She especially loves when she is called a “good girl”. She follows her foster parents everywhere. Tutu has no fears and doesn’t mind the vacuum cleaner. Tutu will bark at other dogs if her brother Jazz does but she is very friendly with the dogs. She does not like to be far from her brother Jazz. They are best friends and are always together. Tutu likes to groom her brother Jazz after the dinner time walk. She grooms his head, ears and sides. He also does it to her. They both love it, it goes on for about 15 – 30 mins. They get very excited when we come back inside after walks and are usually ready for playtime. Jazz and Tutu play together a lot, sometimes they play fight- but they are very gentle with one another.  They are a wonderful pair and very easy to look after. They already look so much happier and calmer since arriving here. They are used to our routine and know how to tell time (especially at breakfast and dinner time).

November 13, 2018 -Jazz is adjusting in his new foster home really well. He is very cuddly. He especially loves women. Jazz is getting his teeth cleaned on November 27. Jazz had a bath and loved all the attention he was getting. Jazz loves going for walks he squeals when you put his coat and harness on. He likes to walk on a coupler with his sister Tutu. Jazz is transitioning to raw diet and he really likes it. Jazz sleeps in a big bed curled up with his sister Tutu. Jazz isn’t used to being picked up and held. We are working on him being more comfortable with that. Jazz gets along really well with the resident pugs.
Tutu has made herself quite at home and is very comfortable here. She prefers men but will snuggle with anyone available. She loves her chest rub. Tutu had her teeth cleaned last week and had a cyst removed near her vulva. Tutu has had no accidents in the house.  Tutu loves going for walks. She walks on a coupler with her brother Jazz and she is the leader. They walk very well on leash. They seemed overly excited the first few walks. But now they know it is just part of our routine so they  now walk really well on leash. Tutu is transitioning to raw food and loves it. Tutu likes to snuggle her brother in their big bed together. Tutu hasn’t played too much yet. But she has been very interested in everything the people in the house are doing. She follows everywhere you go and must be next to you when you are relaxing on the couch.  Tutu is really a very happy girl and loves her foster siblings. Tutu is the Boss lady. She’s the boss of Jazz and wants to be the boss of the house. She humps Jazz to show dominance. But she is a big baby. Overall Jazz & Tutu are the most wonderful pair. They are very calm and sweet and extremely connected. They do not like to be in separate rooms and depend on each other.

November 6, 2018 -Jazz & Tutu have settled in nicely into their new routine.  They are both extremely well behaved and love any attention they can get.  They love going on walks and they get very excited when they see the leashes come out.  They are very bonded to each other and are rarely apart.  They are very respectful of the senior pug of the house and they don’t give the resident cats a second glance.  They love meeting new people and are not in the least bit shy.  At bed time, they climb into their dog bed together and are quiet for the entire night.  They love to have cuddle time and belly rubs with anyone willing to provide it.  We love having them around and they are so easy to take care of.  Tutu had her teeth cleaned yesterday, she lost 7 but already had lots missing.  She now has 4 teeth left in her mouth.  Jazz is getting his teeth cleaned on November 27.  Come meet those 2 precious pugs on November 24 from 11 to 3 at Ren’s Pets on Baseline Road in Ottawa.

October 18, 2018 – Jazz & Tutu are adapting well to their new surroundings.  They are definitely bonded to each other.  They love the outdoors and going for long walks.  They are going to the vet tomorrow for a complete check up and to get microchipped.

October 16, 2018 – Jazz & Tutu are brother and sister, they are 10 years old. They were surrendered because of allergies in the family.  Stay tuned for more on these sweet dogs as we get to know them more.  Jazz & Tutu are a bonded pair so we will be looking at adopting them together.

DORIAN

Age: 7 years old
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

November 16, 2018 – Dorian is gone to his forever home today…..he will share his life with 2 dog sibblings.

November 9, 2018 – Dorian had his dental on  November 2 and he has recovered very well form the surgery. Dorian has calmed down with marking outside on his daily walks since neutering and, we now trust him to be in the house without a belly band on and he has had no accidents for a week now !!! Nothing much else has changed with his behaviour, he is still very easy going, loves to walk and play after his walk in the evening and like to do zoomies.  Dorian seems a lot calmer now when we are leaving the house and even lies in his bed and doesn’t bark as we leave but is always glad to see us when we return and makes a big fuss with squeeks and wanting to be stroked or picked up.
Dorian has turned a huge corner and isn’t the nervous dog he was when he arrived with us; he’s super calm, wants to be on your lap, loves a belly rub and, is friendly with other dogs. He has even let us look at his teeth which he would never do a few weeks ago.  Dorian would probably prefer to be an only dog were he could be on the lap of someone all the time but, he would work well with another calm dog and an active family or person as he loves to walk. He does not beg for food at the dinner table and sits quietly looking at the floor just in case some food drops.

October 27, 2018 – Dorian was neutered on October 22 and has recovered very well. He has been scheduled for his teeth cleaning and extraction on November 6, 2018. The vet has instructed that he needs to put on a few pounds which is easy because he is food motivated. Any rustle or movement in the kitchen and he is at your feet. He is currently eating kibble mixed with soft food to make it easier on his many broken, and loose teeth. He loves his walks and continues to mark his way around the neighbourhood. He has had one accident this week while we were out even while wearing his belly band. He has been left alone for almost 8 hours one day and has been really good with no accidents. He has welcomed Marlee into the house and would love her to play- but, she’s not having it. Because he is hard of hearing he does take cues from her as to when to bark at random noises or when to be excited. He does love to play with us usually in the evening after a walk he will run around the house, play bow and do zoomies. With Marlee around it also seems that he is less anxious when we leave. It looks like his ideal home may have another small dog as a companion and walking buddy. We haven’t seen him socialize with many dogs because of his kennel cough at the beginning but, this weekend at the Howl-O-Ween event we will see how he plays with the other pugs. He sleeps on the big bed at night and is fine in cars, especially if you put the heated seat on. He loves to perch himself half on and half off your lap when you are on the couch and often falls asleep. We are very happy to see that over the few weeks he has learned to trust us. He surrenders his belly, let’s us check on his stitches and even goes full noodle when he falls asleep on the couch and lets you carry him to bed.

October 21, 2018 – Dorian is over his kennel cough, he is now more comfortable in his foster home and letting his personality shine. He will be neutered on Monday October 22 and we are so lucky that he trusts us – even when we need to give him his antibiotics or cough syrup for his kennel cough.  Dorian is a very affectionate pug who loves a good nap and he is very playful as well. He loves to chase and be chased with lots of play bows. He is easy going and has fit into our routine.  He is still marking and we keep the belly band on him when we are not home. He hasn’t been marking while we are home. He will bark when we leave the house but, it doesn’t last long and he is calm and quietly waiting for us when we get home.  Dorian is good in the car and very friendly with new people and new dogs. He hasn’t shown any fear or hesitation to meet a big or small dog on a walk and he runs straight to new guests in our home.  Dorian has a great appetite and was eating kibble but we decided that we would give him wet food as well one because it is easier on his very bad teeth and 2 he is a bit skinny and the vet would like him to be a bit heavier.  He loves treats and can do sit, lie down and speak.  Due to Dorian’s poor hearing, he doesn’t always react when a command is given so we are using hand gestures for his tricks and for him to recall to you, he really has to see you and he usually comes running with a wagging tail.  Dorian hates being in a crate and will bark & scratch, he really doesn’t like it so… he sleeps on the bed with us which he just goes to the end of bed and curls up for the night. He wakes up when we get up and wants his breakfast straight away and his walk after.  Dorian is very loving and wants to be with you all the time; he loves human interaction and doesn’t like being on his own although this seem to be getting better as he will sometimes stay on his bed whilst we are in another room.

October 13, 2018 – Dorian is a very gentle, mellow pug who loves to stay near you. He is very trusting of us considering he was found as a stray. He likes to sit right next to you on the couch or at your feet while watching tv or working. He has a “sad/worried” face but, his tail wag assures us he is very happy and looooooves attention and affection. As with most pugs, he has a healthy appetite and is fed 3/4 cup of kibble for breakfast and dinner with herring oil and tri-acta. He doesn’t beg for food at the dinner table. He does lie under the table for potential dropped portions. While prepping food he will also position himself between you and the cupboard. He likes kibble for treats and he knows a few commands: sit. down. and speak. He is very clever and sometimes thinks if he just does one of these commands on his own and stares at you it surely deserves a treat just because. He currently has kennel cough. He is trying to get as much rest as he can but, a congested nose and cough keep him restless day and night. As kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, we don’t know how he interacts with other dogs yet or animals except that he doesn’t seem bothered by any we have passed by on walks so far. He doesn’t bark at anyone and doesn’t seem to notice squirrels etc. He sleeps on the big bed at night. The kennel cough makes it hard to tell what his sleep routine is as the cough makes him get up and down on the bed frequently.  During the day he is gated in the kitchen with his bed, chew toys and water. He sleeps most of the day.  He is not a fan of being left alone and cries, howls & barks for a few minutes when you leave the house. He does settle and is very happy to see you when you come home. So far he has only been left alone for about 3 hours.  He is a marker in the house (as he is not yet neutered) when we leave and at night when he is restless. He is now wearing a belly band to help prevent more marking.  When he first arrived he didn’t want anything to do with a crate but, we are working more on crate training, especially at night to avoid more marking opportunities and give him more rest instead of getting up and down on the bed at night.  He loves to go out for walks and is good on the lead. He gets excited when you get his harness and is very good when you put it on.  He has been told by passersby that he has the “best pug face he/she has ever seen”.  He is a marker outside as well (a consequence of not being neutered) and no post or bush will go untouched. He even likes to mark several times on one post, calculating all the different angles he can reach. He can easily handle stairs, jumping up and down on the couch and he prefers to be put on the big bed but, can jump down on his own. He goes to the vet on Tuesday. We already know he has very bad teeth and he is still intact.  Dorian has what the vet thinks, a floating rib of an old injury as one of his rib stick out a bit on his left side.  That doesn’t prevent him from doing anything a normal pug would do.  As soon as he doesn’t have kennel cough anymore, we will schedule his neutering surgery and later, his dental procedure.

OCTOBER 10, 2018 – Dorian was found stray by the SPCA in Gatineau.  He is a sweet (and smart) 7 year old boy.  Stay tuned for more info on this beautiful soul.

SHOO SHOO

Age: 10 years old
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

November 18, 2018 – Shoo Shoo is gone to her forever home today, she will share her life with a sweet Japanese chin.

November 7, 2018Shoo Shoo is fantastic.  Last night she was back to playing with toys. Shoo Shoo is recovering very well from her dental procedure.

November 3, 2018 – Shoo Shoo had her teeth cleaned on November 2 and she lost 4.  She already had many missing so total left in her beautiful mouth is 17.  Shoo Shoo is now available for adoption.  This sweet cuddly girl would do well with or without another dog.  She enjoys going for walks and cuddling.

October 17, 2018 – I didn’t think Shoo Shoo could be any more endearing but last Friday as I was preparing dinner this sweet little couch potato suddenly jumped off of the sofa and attacked a stuffed toy on the floor.  She shook the toy and jumped into the nearest dog bed where she shook the toy and then tossed it into the air.  She then jumped into another dog bed.  She looked so incredibly happy.  She played tug with me, chased the toy in circles as I dragged it across the floor and even fetched the stuffie when I tossed it across the room.  I was shocked and delighted.  During the four weeks she has been with me Shoo Shoo had shown absolutely no interest in toys no matter how I had tried to entice her.  This darling girl now loves her stuffies and has at least two play sessions a day sometimes playing with her humans or sometimes preferring to play all by herself.

October 8, 2018 – Shoo Shoo is such a sweet little girl. She was spayed October 1 and the only problem with her recovery has been convincing her that she needs to recover. She was delighted at the end of the week when I started taking her out for a short walk. Shoo Shoo loves going for walks, barking and dancing when she sees her harness. She walks well on the leash and at a fairly quick pace although she does like to make frequent stops to sniff and pee. She enjoys meeting people on our walks and looks disappointed when people don’t stop to say hi. Shoo Shoo doesn’t play with toys or the resident pugs. As a matter of fact in the house she is pretty much a couch potato so going for a walk is the highlight of her day. This sweet little girl has been the perfect house guest. She is completely housebroken and has had full run of the house pretty much since day one. She is also crate trained. At bedtime she runs straight into one of the crates, (although not always her own) waiting for her bedtime treat. She adapted to her new routine here very quickly. She does have some separation anxiety and will howl for a short period of time after I leave and is very excited when I return. Although she doesn’t play with the resident pugs she does enjoy their company and she finds comfort with them sharing a dog bed with one or the other when left alone. Shoo Shoo does enjoy watching TV and will bark and whimper at the screen. She is also obsessed with the laser pointer. Although she hasn’t chased the squirrels in the backyard she does go on alert when one crosses our path on our walks. Today she did chase a rabbit around the yard. The only cat she has had any contact with was at the vet’s and she ignored it. Shoo Shoo loves to go in the car but she will bounce around with excitement so I make sure she is clipped in.
Shoo Shoo was extremely itchy when she first arrived. She was given numerous medicated baths and given Reactine the first couple of weeks and she is now much more comfortable. I haven’t given her any Reactine the last few days and so far the extreme itching has not returned. Shoo Shoo is a darling girl who is looking for a forever family that will give her plenty of belly rubs and walks.
Shoo Shoo is getting her teeth cleaned on November 2.  Come and meet this beautiful girl at the Howl.O.Ween Pawty at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre on October 28 from 12 to 3:30pm.

September 14, 2018 – Shoo Shoo was abandoned at the SPCA.  She is a 10 year old intact female pug.  Stay tuned for more info on this precious beauty.
