June 19, 2019 – Oona has just finished another set of antibiotics to get rid of a different bacteria in her urine.  Oona’s teeth cleaning has been postponed to June 25.  She will then become available for adoption.  This sweet girl is the sweetest.  She is now very comfortable with her foster family and gets along well too with the resident pug.  She’s very attached to her foster mom and loves to cuddle.

May 21, 2019 – Oona was at the vet yesterday for a Urinary Tract Infection.  The vet also discovered that she had a bilateral ear infection.  She is on antibiotics for 10 days.  As soon as Oona will feel better, we will get her teeth cleaned.  Oona is the perfect little guest and is much loved by her foster family.

May 19, 2019 – Oona is perfect. Just the perfect little guest. She is eating every bite of her meals, no problem. She recognizes her harness and she gets so excited for walks! It’s the cutest thing! She likes going for slow walks on the trails near our building and in the near by parks. My parents have a big fenced in backyard, and she loved exploring every inch. She has not has a single accident inside. Shes amazing with the kids, and they are so sweet and gentle with her. Her and the resident pug get along, we have had zero issues, even at feeding time. She’s a very special little dog. Thank you for the opportunity to care for her.

May 13, 2019 – Oona is a beautiful 12 year old pug X.  She has lots of pug in her a little bit of Beagle.  She was surrendered by her owner.  Oona is spayed and she gets along well with dog.  She is actually not interested in them and will just ignore them.  Oona is going to the vet this Thursday for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in her vaccination.  Stay tuned for more on this exquisite girl.

CLARA

Age: 8
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

June 19, 2019 – Clara has been adopted by her foster mom.  She is living a happy life with pug sister, past adoptee, Ella.

May 23, 2019 – Clara has recovered completely from her surgery. She gets the sutures out May 31. She is finding her way round the house very well now. Going down the stairs is still hard for her, but up is going well. She is still hesitant when out for walks and needs encouragement to keep going, but she does get excited when she knows we are going for a walk so I think this is just a matter of time. She is eating W/D and loves it. She takes her insulin injections with no trouble. She is a very affectionate dog and asks to be lifted on my knee and then promptly goes to sleep. She is not having any accidents in the house now that her confidence is better and is finding the grass in the garden quite often, if not she does go on the pathway, but that’s still better than the house! She does poop and pee on her walks as well.  Clara is getting her teeth cleaned in a few weeks.

May 16, 2019 – Clara was spayed yesterday, surgery went very well.  Her blood glucose was monitored closely during the surgery.  Clara went back to her foster family last night for a smooth recovery.
May 13, 2019 – Clara had a good day yesterday at the farmers Market.  She stayed closed to her foster sister, Ella, who spent the day with her.  Clara is going back to the vet tomorrow for another glucose curve.  Hopefully, her glucose level will be fine and we will be able to schedule her spaying surgery. Clara is a very cuddly girl who loves to stay close to her people as she is almost blind due to diabetes.
May 7, 2019 – Clara is spending the day at the vet until the evening for a glucose curve to see how the four o’clock food and insulin is working out. She is doing very well health wise. She is off the Apoquel and not scratching. Clara is a very affectionate and gentle dog. Loves people of all ages and good with other dogs. She sleeps through the night on my bed. She’s eating well and doesn’t mind the injections at all. She is still adjusting to the loss of almost all her eyesight.
Right now we are sitting on the bench outside my door and she is content with her feet on me!

May 2, 2019 – Clara was at the vet on Monday to get spayed but her blood glucose was way too high to proceed with the surgery (38).  The vet kept her for the day to do a glucose curve (take blood every hour to see the glucose level).  She left the clinic at 530PM and her glucose was much better, around 13.  Her insulin intake was adjusted to 6 units twice a day.  Clara is going back to the clinic this coming Tuesday for another glucose curve.  If all is good, she will be spayed.

April 26, 2019 – Clara visited the vet this evening. She weighs 22.6lbs. She has a small umbilical hernia which they will fix if the spay goes ahead. This will depend on the blood work being ok. She also has an infection in both ears and I have meds now for that for 7 to 10 days. Her right eye has pigment covering the eye completely and therefore no sight at all. Her left eye has a cataract leaving a very little bit of peripheral vision but nothing at all in front. They want to continue with the tear gel to lubricate her eyes.  This sweet girl has been no trouble at all and is getting better at finding her way round the house.  Clara met the cats. No problem on her side but the cats were not so happy!  She also came to my work office today and all the staff loved her. She moved around quite a bit there too so her confidence is improving.

April 18, 2019 – Clara came in today, she was surrendered by her owner.  Clara is 8 and she is diabetic.
She is not spayed.  Clara is going to the vet on Friday.  This sweet girl is very loving and she gets along with dogs and cats.  Stay tuned for more on Clara as we get to know her.

GUIDO

Age: 9
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

May 15, 2019 – Guido is gone to his forever home where he will be spoiled with a work from home mom.

May 2, 2019 – Guido had his teeth cleaned and lost 17.  He already had quite a few missing so he now has 5 teeth left in his mouth.  Guido is on antibiotics for the next week and is recovering well with his foster family.
Guido is 26.4lbs.

April 26, 2018 – Another great week for Guido. He is wonderful company. He does not stray to far from you. He loves being outside on the nice sunny warm days. He runs around with a huge smile on his face. He listens well and will come to you when you call his name. I think Guido would be best suited for a house that already has a dog.

April 18, 2019 – Guido settled in very quickly at his foster home. He is adapting well to our routine here and you would think that he has always lived here. He loves attention, loves to be petted and likes to lay down right beside you. He is already my little shadow.
He gets very excited when he sees his harness and leash coming out and knows that he is going outside for either a walk or fresh air. Guido would be more suited for a house without stairs as he has to be carried up. Guido gets along with the resident pugs he has fit in well with them. He truly is a very happy dog his tail is always wagging when you talk to him.  Guido is having his teeth cleaned on April 30 and the vet thinks he will lose all his teeth as they are in very bad condition.  Guido is 26.4lbs.

April 13, 2019Guido came in today. This sweet 9 year old boy is a joy to be around. Guido is going to the vet this Tuesday for a complete check up and to be brought up to date in his vaccination.

MADDIE

Age: 12 years old
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

May 25, 2019 – Maddie’s condition worsen in the past week as the big tumor/cyst she had in her vaginal/anal area seemed to have gone bigger by the day and she had problem eliminating because of that.  We had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go.  Run free, run far sweet girl.

May 24, 2019 – Maddie has had no accidents in the house and although she pees every few minutes when we are outside, she can hold it for hours in the house. We have left her free in the house for several hours now when we go out without a problem. If she doesn’t see her harness when we put our shoes on, she just curls up in the bed by the front door and waits for us to come home. Maddie has also learned the hand sign for sit and we are working on come. Maddie is also getting used to all the steps on our deck and will now come up them easily although she is a little unsure going down. Maddie is getting her teeth cleaned on June 3.

May 13, 2019 – It’s been just over a week since Maddie’s surgeries and despite having a belly full of staples she is just as spunky as ever.  She is much happier the last few days.  Since her incision looks fantastic she has been allowed much more freedom and we have been going out for walks again.  Unfortunately this feisty little girl still needs to wear a diaper as she still has a discharge but the only problem with that is trying to get the diaper on over the constantly wagging tail.  She is also becoming more of a snuggler.  The other day she actually demanded to be lifted up on the sofa to have a sleep on my lap.  She has been doing so well that we have left her loose in the house for short periods of time while we are out and she seems to have much less anxiety.  When we return she is sleeping in the bed by the door.

May 6, 2019 – Maddie has 2 surgeries on May 3 to get 3 big mammary tumours removed and she was spayed at the same time.  Maddie is recovering extremelly well and has to be slowed down otherwise, she would run.

April 26, 2019 – Maddie is beginning to settle in and adapt to her new surroundings and routine. She appears to have a good appetite. She is definitely interested when dinner is being prepared. This sweet girl appears to be completely deaf and has some difficulty with her vision, primarily her depth perception but she quickly learned where the steps to the family room were and the steps outside and she navigates them both now without any difficulty. Maddie has been doing well doing her business outside and has had only one accident this past week. She is still a Daddy’s girl but she has begun to cuddle with me and has actually asked to get up on my lap a couple of times. Maddie suffers from extreme separation anxiety and will bark and cry and howl the entire time when left alone whether it is in the kitchen or her crate. Fortunately she seems to understand night time and will sleep all night in her crate without a peep.

April 23, 2019 – Maddie is doing great.  Despite all the health problems and changes, she is such a happy girl.  She is really beginning to get settle in now.  She loves to go for walks and when I put her harness on she barks and twirls until we get outside.  She is very vocal.  She’s already sharing the resident pug’s bed.

April 18, 2019 – Maddie’s xrays showed no metastases.  She is booked for her mammary tumors surgery for May 3.  She continues to be a sweet girl who is very attached already to her foster dad.

April 17, 2019 – Maddie’s blood work came back normal and cytology shows no sign of malignant tumours.  She is going this afternoon for xrays to make sure she has no metastases.

April 16, 2019 – Maddie was a very good girl at her vet appointment.  She got her nails clipped and some Burrows solution for an ear infection but the vet discovered two masses one in her breast tissue and one probably in her vagina which is why her back end looks so distended.  The vet took blood and tried to get samples from the masses but was only successful with the mass in her breast tissue.  She didn’t get any vaccines. We will get blood results and biopsy results in the coming days.

April 14, 2019 – Maddie definitely likes dog beds.  She was very anxious last night which is to be expected and a little nervous of us.  By later in the evening she seemed to have attached herself to Mike.  At one point we noticed she was bleeding from her nipple and I used a belly band on her and it appears to have stopped a short time later so I’m assuming she must have somehow scrapped it.  I will keep an eye on it.  She did fairly well last night.  She took a while to calm after I put her in the crate but she slept for several hours. As well as being deaf I don’t think Maddie sees very well she didn’t notice the two steps down to my family room and slipped.  Maddie doesn’t appear to be housebroken so I was hoping you could bring more diapers to the Spring Thaw so she can have a little more freedom in the house.  Also if you have some canned food as she seems to be having a bit of trouble with the kibble even though I’m putting water on it to soften it.

FRIDA

Age: 8
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

March 28, 2019 – Sadly, this afternoon, our sweet Frida passed.  Her condition was getting worse every day and she was not keeping any food.  She went at the vet clinic this afternoon and in an effort to put her under anesthesia to investigate what was the big mass seen on the xrays, Frida collapsed and never came back to life.  She will fondly be remembered.

March 25, 2019 – Frida is getting her soft palate shorten on April 18.  She is having a hard time breathing properly and regurgitate her meals quite often.  We are very hopeful that this surgery will be the beginning of a new life for this sweet girl.  Frida is doing very well in her housetraining and goes outside most of the time to do her business.  She’s a pretty mellow girl who enjoys sleeping and cuddling.

March 22, 2019 – Frida went to vet today for urine analysis and to have her nostrils and breathing checked.  This sweet girl make a lot of noise when she breathes.  Notes from her past vet visits mention narrow nostrils, she might have to get her soft palate shorten and at the same time, her nostrils enlarged.  Frida’s blood work came all perfect.

March 19, 2019 – Frida has been to the vet yesterday for a complete check up.  She has been given an injection of Cytopoint as she was very itchy and was dragging her bum on the floor.  Frida is in good health and she will need to have her teeth cleaned.

March 18, 2019 – Frida has a very mellow/low key/easy to care for.  She does follow  you around the house and has a good appetite. Frida is excellent in the car, she sits still and sleeps most of the way.
Sleeping habits: very quiet, slept in dog bed on floor next to the big bed. Slept all night.
Training:  pee pad trained. Hadn’t gone outside yet. Tried walking and going out regularly. Itchy/constantly scratching face, butt, side.
Doesn’t bark
Drinks lots of water
Has only peed twice in 24 hrs and pooped once yesterday.  She’s a very sweet girl. Loves to cuddle. Well mannered.
She doesn’t like to walk. We’ve been going out regularly and I’ve had to use leash to lead her 10feet and back. It’s a start.

March 17, 2019 – Frida was surrendered to us on March 16.  Frida is born March 9, 2011 so she just turned 8.  Frida is 14.2lbs and she is spayed and up to date in her vaccination.  She was at the vet this afternoon for a complete check up and to get blood work done.  Frida had hundreds of small stones removed from her bladder – she will need to be on a special vet food for the rest of her life.  Stay tuned for more on this sweet little girl as we get to know her.

GOLDA

Age: 9 1/2 years old
Adoption Fees: $300
Adoption Status:

May 11, 2019 – Golda went to her forever home today, she will share her life with 2 teenagers, 1 pug brother and 1 bug sister.

May 4, 2019 – If you are looking for a practically perfect pug, I think it would be me!  I am 9.5 years young and quite spry if I do say so.  I can go up and down stairs, go for long walks, and enjoy playing sometimes too. I am a friendly girl that loves to do whatever you are doing – from going exploring in the neighbourhood to watching TV on the couch. I like car rides and am well behaved on leash out on walks.  I am totally house trained and I have a good appetite. They have been feeding me raw food, which is delicious!  I have enjoyed living with two other small dogs and a toddler. I am super patient with children (and always hoping they might share their snack).  However, what I really hope for is to find my forever family soon.  Is it you??

April 23, 2019 – We have stopped using Reactine and Golda has been good – doesn’t seem to be itchy.  She loves her raw food and so is always eager for meals.  She loves going for walks and cuddling on the couch.  She is happiest when doing things with her people.  She is house trained now and does great with our routine here.  She is an easy going girl who will be a great addition to someone’s grumble 🙂

April 17, 2019 – Golda is doing very well and enjoys sunning as soon as she gets the chance.  She continues to be a sweet girl and a joy to have around.

April 1, 2019 – Golda is almost completely housetrained, we leave a pee pad when we are gone and she doesn’t use it.  Golda is now looking for her forever home.  She is a sweet cuddly girl who get along well with other dogs and respectful kids.

March 25, 2019 – Golda is back to her own self after her dental procedure.  She has been microchipped and brought up to date in her vaccination.  She is slowly learning to do her business outside as she came to us pee pad trained.

March 22, 2019 – Golda had her teeth cleaned today.  She lost 13 and was already missing 9.

March 21, 2019 – Golda is a very sweet girl.  She loves cuddling on the couch and is always ready for bed at night.  Sometimes she snores quite a bit!  She has been great with our toddler and didn’t seem to notice the cat at the vet.  She is still working on her leash skills – sometimes she pulls a bit, but is keen to explore/smell her surroundings. She has been doing well with her house training and only used her pad once or twice recently. We gave her a bath this evening, and she is now nice and fluffy.  Golda is getting her teeth cleaned today.

March 19, 2019 – Golda is settling in well.  When she first arrived, she had a few accidents in the house and was a bit anxious.  We did a few trips outside when I saw her circling in the house and she caught on quickly to that routine.  She was previously pee pad trained, so we have those out for when we aren’t present.  However, she seems happy to go outside and we will continue to encourage that. Golda seemed to settle after a short time and ate well at dinner.  She slept quietly overnight in a dog bed beside our bed.  Her tail wiggles so fast when she sees you and she loves to give kisses.  She needs some reminding of her boundaries at times, but it all stems from her desire to be affectionate.  Golda seems a little bit itchy and is scooting intermittently.  She will be transitioned to raw food today.  She will see the vet on March 20 for a check up and to book a dental cleaning.  Overall, she is a sweet and affectionate little pug who is good with other dogs, kids and likely cats too!   P.S. she rode in the car seat the whole way home since it had the best view out the window

March 17, 2019 – Golda was surrendered to us on March 16.  She is born October 27, 2009 so she is 9 1/2 years old.  Golda is spayed and up to date in her vaccination.  She is going to the vet this week for a complete check up and to get her teeth checked.  Golda is pee pad trained and we will be working on showing her to go outside to do her business.  Stay tuned on this sweet girl as we get to know her better.

ELVIS

Age: 21 months
Adoption Fees: $500
Adoption Status:

August 9, 2019 – Elvis has been adopted by his foster family.

July 26, 2019 – Elvis has made some stride forward in the last few weeks. He now sits on command and his recall is good when he is let off leash in a secure area. We have started teaching him to ‘stay’ and will continue to work on his manners. We are working on his confidence when he sees dogs on our walks. I am working on having him pay attention to me rather than the dog. This training is ongoing and is progressing slowly. He requires a great deal of time, patience and consistency with his training. Elvis loves his liver treats and works hard to get his reward. He is a very clever boy and an excellent communicator. When he wants something or wants you to look at something that needs your attention, he will look at you intently, make squeaking noise and look in the direction of the object.  Elvis had his first trip to our cottage. He made himself at home right away and loved spending time outside on the deck or chasing his ball. He came in the raft with the family and sat calmly. He let me hold him in the shallow water near the shore and even swam! This little guy loves exploring new environments.

July 7, 2019 – Elvis is a sweet, lovable character. He is an active youngster who thrives on activity. This boy isn’t into napping and never turns down a walk or a good session chasing a ball or tossing
around his stuffy. Exercise is important in keeping Elvis lean, and his muscles strong. He thrives
on structure and routine.  Elvis loves his foster family and is especially bonded to his foster mom. He can always be found beside her or snuggled in her lap. He is slow to accept visitors and it take several times seeing them before he stops barking at them. Elvis needs to be introduced to new people and
environments slowly. His security is important to him and must be respected. He comes out of
his shell slowly and needs time to learn to trust people.  Elvis alert barks at dogs and some people when they walk past the house. A detached house and family accustomed to bouts barking is a must.
Elvis is very reactive to other dogs. He responds with barking and lunging but it is fear based
rather than aggression. He must be the only pet in the home and will need time to bond with a new family dedicated to continuing his training and accepting of his fears. We use positive reward training using the marker word ‘yes’ and liver treats. He is a very intelligent dog and learns quickly but his fear overrides his ability to follow direction. A strong, confident, patient dog handler is needed to ensure he feels secure.
Elvis has been exposed to busy streets, parks and forested areas. He loves walking in the forest
where he can be secluded from other people and dogs, relax and sniff to his hearts content. This
little guy has stamina for long walks but as a pug, the temperature outside needs to be taken
into account. A house with air conditioning is a must and he love a fireplace in the winter.
He does well in the car as long as he has someone to sit beside him. He will look out the window
and bark loudly if he sees another dog.
Elvis is crate trained and stays in it when we are away and at night. He is house trained but does
not ask to go outside. We take him out every 2-3 hours and he passes the night without needing
to go outside.
He is calm and quiet in the house and does not have separation anxiety. He loves to be with his
foster family and would prefer not to be alone for long stretches of time. Elvis requires mental
stimulation, human interaction and continued training to be the best dog he can be.

June 21, 2019 – The dog trainer was thrilled with all the progress that Elvis made since he came into rescue.  He still barks when he sees strangers but he is a smart boy and has learned a lot in the past few months. We continue to work to build his confidence. Elvis is familiar with our neighbourhood and anticipates where he will see dogs in yards. We increase the distance by walking on the opposite side of the street and reward him when he gives his attention to us rather than the dog. Elvis has been spending time with us on our front porch and is more relaxed when people go by as long as they don’t have a dog. Elvis loves walking in the forest and sniffing everything. He loves being outside.  He is an affectionate, active, funny little guy and we enjoy fostering him very much.

May 21, 2019 – Elvis is getting re-assessed by the dog trainer on June 2.  He is still overwhelmed and very reactive when he sees other dogs or when someone comes to the door. As far as manners in the house, he is very well behaved and corrects easily.  We will see what the dog trainer says about this beautiful boy on June 2.

May 16, 2019 – Elvis is an absolute sweetheart. He loves everyone in the family and is very affectionate with my husband and boys. He loves to snuggle and sit on my lap. Elvis stays in his crate while we are away and at night time. He is a good sleeper and waits quietly until you open the crate. He doesn’t sleep much during the day.  He is a good eater and finishes his meals quickly. He has never had human food while with us other than the odd thing he finds on the floor. When he first came to us, he would jump up and whine when we ate. Now he doesn’t bother because he knows he is not getting anything.
He loves to be groomed. He lets me brush him for a long time and doesn’t fuss when having a bath.
He loves to play fetch inside the house, wrestle with his stuffies and chew his Himalayan Chew. He loves liver treats.  Elvis is an athletic little guy who loves his walks. He walks for over an hour with no problem. He does well on busy streets but really loves to explore the forest with all its lovely smells. He is also very agile and can jump quite high if he wants to get on the bed , where he is not allowed, or in your lap. He can stand on his hind legs to reach a treat or to try and get a dog on TV.  Elvis is very alert and notices every sound and movement inside or outside of the house. He sits at the front window at busy times and barks when he sees a dog go by and sometimes people.
He is very reactive to other dogs. He barks and tries to get at them when we see them in the park, on walks or from the car. He is slightly less reactive to cats when we have seen them on walks. He has not been in the same room as one as I am very allergic.
When he meets children and adults on a walk, he is polite and will let me stop and chat and allows people to pet him.
Elvis is very reactive to new people that come in the house. He barks at them and when they come to the door, he goes mad. We have tried to work on this but he gets really stressed and remains on alert for quite sometime after.
He doesn’t ask to be let outside but we take him out every 2-3 hours. He is always on a leash.

May 6, 2019 – Elvis absolutely loves being outside.  We took him for a walk today in a public park for the first time. He was not bothered by people or bikes but dogs are another matter completely.  On cold mornings, he loves to snooze in his dog bed in front of the fireplace. We will continue to work on rewarding him when he is calm and meeting new people

April 23, 2019 – Elvis has had a good week with lots of opportunities to learn. With the nicer weather, he has been on longer walks at different times of day and in new areas. He has reacted less often to people and dogs. It is still very much a work in progress. As the neighbourhood has gotten busier, he spends time at the front window barking at anyone going by.
With the increased exercise, Elvis’s hind quarters have gotten stronger. When he sits now, it is almost straight rather than off to one side. He has even stood straight up when barking at a dog on TV or looking out the window.
Elvis had to get used to having another family member home. It took him less than half an hour to stop barking at my oldest son and accept that he was here to stay. He loves being with anyone in the family and is a snuggle bug.  We will continue to work on his confidence and begin training outside.

April 16, 2019 – Elvis has made so many strides forward this week. He has shown us how smart he is and that he is comfortable enough with us to be a little naughty. He has found a way to move the dog barrier that blocks the stairs just enough to sneak past. I go up to bed first and within 2 minutes, I hear him at my bedroom door. Elvis found a glove in our mudroom and began playing with it. I traded him the glove for his favourite stuffy and put the glove in a drawer. He immediately dropped his raccoon and tried to open the drawer to retrieve the glove. When I redirected him to his toys, he played until I turned my back. Then he ran past me with my son’s shoe that is almost as big as he is! Elvis is a playful little guy that makes us laugh every day.  He has had no accidents in the house this week. I think last week’s could be attributed to his surgery. He has also stopped marking in the house and we have put the belly bands away. He is eating twice a day now, morning and evening. His first few days with us, he would only eat a little bit out of my hand or from the floor.  Then he would eat only at 8:30pm. He eats well and naps well so we know he is getting adequate exercise. Elvis now has routine in his life and feels secure with his foster family.  With Easter weekend coming up, he will be having a few more visitors in the house. This will be an excellent opportunity for training. We will also be taking him to the cottage so he will be in a new environment with his foster family

April 8, 2019 – Elvis continues to do well. He is very loving with everyone in the family and follows his foster mom around. Elvis loves to wrestle with his stuffed racoon toy and never turns down an invitation to chase his tennis ball. He always returns it and eagerly waits for the next throw.  We are continuing to work on Elvis gaining confidence and establishing a trust bond with his handler. He is doing well practicing his skills in the house using a mark (the word “yes”) and reward system. He loves his liver treats and is alert and attentive. He will need time and patience to be social with people and other dogs. Yesterday, he enjoyed a 45 minute walk on a quiet path. We are looking forward to warmer, drier days ahead when we can practice his skills outside to help him be calmer with all the sights and sounds.  Elvis is crate trained. He sleeps in his crate at night and when he is home alone. He is house trained but does have an occasional accident.  Elvis is a lovely little guy and will need time and patience to be the best boy he can be.

April 3, 2019 – Elvis was neutered yesterday and the surgery went very well.  He is back to hos foster family for a smooth recovery.  We are working with Elvis and the dog trainer to teach him good manners and respect.  Elvis is a very active dog who should be placed in a home with no other dog and kids over 12.

March 25, 2019 -Elvis’s first week in foster care has gone very well. He is comfortable with our family and is getting into a routine. He enjoys several walks a day and is looking forward to warmer weather and a chance to play in the yard. He follows foster mom around and become a cuddlier with anyone who invites him on their lap. He had a trip to the vet and is now up to date on his vaccines. It was a long drive to Kanata and he got along well with the two older female pugs and their foster mom. I heard he was very well behaved for the vet too.  On Saturday, we had a visit from a dog trainer who did a temperament assessment and demonstrated games to establish his focus and offered many training tips. Now that he is comfortable in his foster home, we will begin training and working on his manners. He is a bright young boy and he loves his treats! Elvis should be placed in a home with no other dogs and no kids.

March 22, 2019 – Elvis went to the vet today for a complete check up.  He is a very healthy 19.3lbs boy.  He has received his vaccination (DHPP + rabies) and his neutering surgery is scheduled for April 2.

March 19, 2019 – Elvis is a happy go lucky little dog who was comfortable with his foster family immediately. He was calm and relaxed on the drive home. He was curious as he explored our house and enjoyed the attention he received. He loves playing with his racoon stuffy and chasing his ball. He is good about bringing it back and dropping it. He was not interested in his food until 8pm but drank water several times. Elvis slept all night in his crate. He enjoyed several walks today and did quite well on the leash. He was calm and cooperative when I brushed him and even enjoyed his bath. He is currently wearing a belly band as he marked a few objects. He quickly found a spot to do his business outside and has not had any accidents in the house.

March 18, 2019 – Elvis was surrendered to us on March 16.  He is a pug X and is born September 23, 2017.  Elvis will go to the vet this Thursday for a complete check up and be vaccinated.  Elvis will also get neutered in the coming weeks.  Stay tuned for more on this active little guy.

BB

Age: 10 1/2 years old
Adoption Fees: Hospice Pug - pls donate
Adoption Status:

September 17, 2019 – Our sweet BB has lost her battle against diabetes and her hind long could no longer support her weight.  She also started being completely incontinent in the house.  We made the decision to let her cross the bridge as her quality of life took a huge toll in the past week.  Thanks a millon times to BB’s foster mom Louise who gave her unconditional love over the past 6 months.

August 20, 2019 – Our little sweetheart is declining more with her hind legs, it’s so upsetting to see her mobility go downhill after all she has overcome. I help her down and up the steps into the yard. She goes pee in the yard, she goes a few steps and loses her balance now, picks herself up with those powerful front legs and away she goes again. She will run when it’s mealtime, I’ve never seen such a feisty determined pug.

BB is taking MetaCam with her supper at 8:00PM and as long as that tail is still wagging I know she’s happy …
August 15, 2019 – Our little BB is still fighting to stay mobile, she does fall over sometimes but gets right back up …. I help her on the stairs and the ramp to our bed . But if Im not right there she will pull herself up with determination.
I checked her blood sugar last week and it was low so I decreased her insulin to 6 units.
All in all BB is still going strong as long as those hind legs don’t give out entirely,
She is such a happy loving little girl who has to be close to me at all times !

July 23, 2019 – We have decided that BB will be a hospice pug so you will be able to see updates of her on the Hospice Pugs page.  Her wobbly back end, frequent accidents in the house, her blindness & her twice a day injections of insulin make that sweet girl a very hard pug to get adopted.  BB has been living in the same foster family since her arrival at UMWPR and she has become very attached to her foster mom and vice versa.

June 19, 2019 – Our little BB is still motoring along and full of energy . She loves to play with me and does the cutest pug growls.  Still my shadow more than all the other animals in the gang. BB is enjoying life and that tail never stops wagging.

May 24, 2019 – BB had her teeth cleaned.  She lost 6 and the rest were cleaned and polished.  BB is back to her foster family for a smooth recovery.  BB is having a glucose curve next week to make sure everything is good with her insulin.  BB continues to be a cuddly girl with her foster mom and the resident dogs and cat. BB’s back end is a bit wobbly but she enjoys exploring the backyard and will even run sometimes.  Nothing stops that sweet girl.

May 21, 2019 – BB is getting her teeth cleaned today.  She will have one less tooth to deal with as it came out in her food bowl last week !! BB is now getting iDrops in her eyes twice a day because she has dry eyes.  She is doing great, follows me the instant I move.  Loves being out in the yard or going in the car.  BB gets plenty of exercise with the resident pugs and outside running (sometimes ) in the yard.  She has settled in so well with the resident pugs but loves me the best. She’s my cuddly teddy bear.

May 6, 2019 – BB is still trying to navigate her way around. She still has some difficulty getting down the steps to the yard but if she takes her time she does better. She loves to be outside in the yard with her animal buddies but she still needs to know where I am. If I come in, she follows me. If I sit, she is on my lap within minutes; she is the cuddliest pug I’ve ever had. She is the happiest when she is near me, except for when she’s eating ! BB is wobbly on those hind legs but that doesn’t stop her. Her blood sugar is stable and I’ll check it again this week, I adore this little sweetheart.

May 1, 2019 – BB is such a little love bug , the sweetest little girl . She’s my shadow and wants to be near me at all times .. She is still trying to adjust to her vision loss , and has bumped into a few things.  She loves to be outside in the yard and lie in the sun . She also loves to snuggle up to the resident dogs.  She is doing good with her energy levels and her appetite. She still only gets fed twice a day with her insulin , and let’s me know quite vocally long before it’s mealtime. She is holding her own with her hind legs , they are weak but she is a feisty little girl and keeps going !  She is just a sweet loving tail wagging little girl !!!

April 23, 2019 – Our little darling BB is adjusting to now being completely blind. This feisty little girl has gotten a tad timid and insecure. She needs encouragement and help to get her into yard to do her business. I hope this gets better for her … she has bumped into a few things in the house but is getting better at remembering where the furniture is.
We still continue her eye lubricant to keep her eyes moisturize.
Her blood sugar is good and the vet says she is healthy enough to have her dental procedure done.  BB is a sweet little girl, holding her own with her weak end, still has control of doing #1 but number two not so much.  BB’s appetite is great, no issue giving her insulin, she doesn’t even notice.  She loves the back yard and likes to wander around.  Bibi is a little cuddle bunny, and sticks close to my every move.

April 16, 2019 – BB had a fun day at the Spring Pug Thaw yesterday ! She was like the energizer bunny but has finally slowed down and is tucked in for the night . Because of her diabetes, she has now lost sight in both eyes, it is sad because she has been through so much and was finally getting healthy and the ulcer in her bad eye has healed .. Glucose curve this week was great and the vet was very pleased with her readings . Her blood sugar is stabilizing with regularly scheduled insulin and mealtime . BB was so excited to get home and ran around like a puppy. I think she was happy to be in her familiar surroundings… It warmed my heart at her reaction. BB has had number two accidents because she doesn’t have control but goes outside for her other business !It took a lot of support, from wonderful people financially, an amazing vet, and lots of care, but this little girl is so worth it.

April 8, 2019 – BB continues to get healthier every week . Her glucose curve this week shows her sugar levels getting more stable ..Her insulin is 5 units twice a day , and she has her recheck at the vets this Wednesday .  What a happy sweet little girl who loves to be outside in the yard with the resident dogs.  Her hind legs are a little weak but that doesn’t stop her. She has no problem with the stairs to the yard . When it’s meal time, she runs to the kitchen . Being diabetic, she gets little treats so mealtime is quite the event.
I give her insulin with no effort , very easy with her , she doesn’t notice . BB has a few number two accidents but with the warmer weather and getting outside more it’s getting better . She is so wonderful with kids and other pets, even tolerates the antics of George the Sphinx cat.
April 2, 2019 – BB continues to get healthier and happier. Her tail is constantly wagging, wherever I go, she is immediately behind me ..She loves to lick my arms, my face, my legs especially at bedtime. She loves to cuddle, and also cuddles with the resident dogs or cats . BB continues to get her eye medication and her eye is looking so much better. She doesn’t wear her cone now, when I apply her eye cream it doesn’t bother her and she never scratches at her eye anymore.  She must be feeling much more comfortable.
Her ears are clear and she is finished her antibiotics for her UTI.
BB loves to go outside, loves to soak up the sun.
BB is on a strict diet and gets insulin twice a day …. She is a little vocal waiting for her food .. BB will have a glucose curve done this week, that will tell us where her glucose level is. BB is going back to the vet next week to see if her insulin intake needs to be changed. My grandchildren were here this weekend and she just loved being in the middle of them … I am careful not to let her jump off the bed, because her hind legs are weak , but she is used to the bed ramp now. BB is the sweetest little girl, so loving and so full of energy…. I just love this little girl

March 25, 2019 – BB is snuggled on my lap as I write this . She is such a sweetheart, I just adore her . What a feisty confident little girl . Not like the sick girl who first arrived . She had such wonderful care at the Eagleson Veterinary Clinic , and is responding so well with her insulin and diet . She is very tolerant with wearing her cone going into week three , she  helps me when putting it on despite the inconvenience for her . I did a glucose curve on her, 7 times in one day I pricked her ear to test her blood sugar , and she was so good …I give her a little more freedom now for short periods of time but watch her closely . Her ears are great and her ear meds are just a week maintenance. She still gets her eye cream , but things are really improving . She loves to snuggle , but also loves to go outside . She is full of energy …She never has a Pee accident , has one day left of her antibiotics for her UTI , but sometimes has an accident with number two , because of her hind leg weakness .
BB is like a new dog and is just the cutest little girl .

March 13, 2019 – BB was at the vet clinic from Sunday til Tuesday March 12.  She came to us in a terrible health condition.  She had a bad ulcer in her right eye, she had a Urinary Tract Infection, she had diarrhea with blood and her blood sugar was all over the place.  She stayed at the vet clinic on IV fluids and was monitored 24/24.  The vet gradually reintroduced insulin and yesterday, he sent her back to her foster home.  BB never stopped having a good appetite and she seems to be doing better every day.  She has been put on antibiotics for her UTI and she has 2 different kind of drops for her eye.  BB is a real trooper and such a sweet girl.  Her tail is wagging all the time and she loves everybody.  BB will eventually need to get her teeth cleaned but we will wait until she is completely stabilized with her diabetes and her UTI and ulcer are is healed.

March 9, 2019 – BB came in today.  She was surrendered by her owner.  BB has diabetes.  She also has an ulcer in her right eye.  BB went to the vet this afternoon and she is getting 2 different medication in her eye with the cone collar and antibiotics.  She is going back to the vet on Monday for complete blood work and check up.  This sweet girl turned 10 in November 2018.  Stay tuned for more on this sweet girl as we get to know her better.

STORMI

Age: 5
Adoption Fees: $400
Adoption Status:

April 27, 2019 – Stormi is gone to her forever home today…in the GTA area.

April 16, 2019 – Stormi is such a great pup! She is doing so well each and every day. She is a very energetic little girl who loves to play outside and run around. She likes to run circles around the resident pugs. She is very good when you tell her no as she’ll listen right away. She has a lot of energy but also loves to just sit and cuddle with you. She’s always curious to see what you are doing so she doesn’t go very far from you. She is a very sweet girl. She loves going on walks as well. She is a bit eager so she does pull. She loves to hang around with Humphrey and Leon. She likes to follow them all over the house. She is great in the car as well. After the rain storm we had last night, I was interested to see how she would react. The thunder didn’t bother her at all. She just kept sleeping.

April 8, 2019 – Stormi is doing great! She loves the warmer weather but isn’t a fan of all the mud. She’s very active and loves to run around. She is great in her crate and has no issues sleeping the whole night. She gets along great with our pug mixes and always wonders what they’re doing. Her recall is getting much better and she’s getting less nervous around larger dogs. She is still nervous around them but not aggressive anymore. She loves to play with her stuffies and when you play tug of war with her. She also loves chasing the ball around the yard.

April 1, 2019 – Stormi is a very active and playful 19lbs girl She is full of energy and loves attention. She likes to be front and centre with you all the time. At first, she is very timid and nervous but it doesn’t take long for her to warm up to you. She normally barks a lot when she hears a noise or when anyone comes in the door. She’s a protector! She loves when you throw a ball for her to go fetch. She also loves playing tug of war with a stuffed animal. She’s very quick to pick up on what you tell her to do and listens most of the time. She does get into things she isn’t supposed to sometimes if she isn’t getting enough play time or attention. She is crate trained when she goes to bed and will go in without being told. We have her crate in our bedroom and when we go upstairs at night to go to bed, she walks upstairs and goes right into her crate without being told. Sometimes we’ll leave the door open and she’ll just sleep in there. She is a very sweet girl. She loves to kiss and cuddle. If you are laying with her, all she wants to do is kiss you! After a while, she’ll stop and lay down for a little while with you until she’s ready to play again. She loves to eat as well! She used to be picky with her food when she first came to us but now she will her food with no fuss. She’s not picky. When you give her a treat, she doesn’t normally take it from your hand, she likes when you put it on the floor so she can figure out what it is first. She isn’t fond of the cold weather and won’t last too long outside for walks but when the weather is mild, she will walk for longer. She loves to go on walks and smell everything. She does not like the vacuum cleaner at all. She gets very scared when you turn it on and will run away and hide. She also doesn’t do very well with larger dog breeds. We introduced her to a very docile husky and a very active golden retriever. The first time she met them, she was growling and barking and you couldn’t let her go anywhere near them or she would bite them. She was more aggressive with the playful golden than the husky. We’ve introduced them to her a few times now and, she gets better every time. She is still very nervous around them and will let them know when they are getting too close. She isn’t as aggressive with them anymore and is slowly getting used to them. Stormi wouldn’t do well at a dog park with larger dogs. She is very good on leash and will stop to smell everything around her on the mild days. On the colder days, she will go to do her business and then she is ready to go back inside.  Stormi will do well with an active family. She loves to run around and play with her toys. She loves it even more when you play with her. She is very active and needs that extra attention sometimes. She is also very good with smaller dogs. She is great with the 2 resident puggle. She does get a bit jealous and will try to push through them if she sees they are getting more attention but she is very sweet with them. They love to all snuggle on the couch together. I am not sure how she is around children but we have introduced her to many people and she’s never had any issues with them. She gets very scared in the beginning but warms up very quickly. She is a very sweet and kind girl who will definitely bring a lot of love and joy to the lucky family. She will definitely be missed around our house.

March 29, 2019 – Stormi had her teeth cleaned on Friday and didn’t lose any.  She already was missing 6 and the rest were cleaned and polished.  She has a brand new smile now.  Stormi will soon be available for adoption.

March 25, 2019 – Stormi is a very happy little girl with tons of energy. She loves playing tug of war and chasing after her ball. We tried another play date with the same big dog (golden retriever) and she seems to be more comfortable with her now. She wasn’t aggressive this time but she kept a bit of distance. Stormi is also loving that the weather is getting nicer as she enjoys running around the yard. She is going for dental work on Friday March 29.

March 13, 2019 – Stormi is doing very well. She gets more and more comfortable everyday. She has made herself quite at home now 🙂 she loves following our 2 dogs around and is always very curious as to what they are doing. Her favourite time of the day is meal time! She’s not a fan of the cold weather so she’s happy it’s starting to get a bit warmer outside! She’s also a huge cuddle bug!

March 4, 2019 – Stormi is doing great! She has healed very well after her surgery and is completely back to normal. She loves running around with our dogs and is always curious to see what they are doing. She is a big snuggler and loves attention. We have her completely crate trained now. We have her bed in her crate in our bedroom and when it’s time for bed she walks right in to the crate and goes to bed.

February 27, 2019 – Stormi is healing well from his spaying surgery and her appetite has come back.  Stormi does not get along with big dog breeds. She had a playdate this week with bigger dogs and she didn’t want to go anywhere near them. Stormi is a very energetic dog and loves to play with her toys. Her favourite game is tug of war! Stormi is getting her teeth cleaned on March 29.

February 18, 2019 -Stormi is doing great, she is a very independent little girl. Her foster brothers are taking to her well. They’re always following each other around and curious what everyone is doing. We tried crate training her and she wasn’t very pleased. We decided to take a break from crate training and tried to get her to sleep in her bed and she prefers that much more. She’ll sleep in her bed the entire night! She also loves to play tug of war with her toys. Stormi will be going to the vet on Thursday to get spayed.

February 15, 2019 – Stormi is doing really well!! She gets along great with the resident pugs. She’s becoming more and more comfortable and is a very happy pup! She is super playful and has a lot of energy! She likes to nip when she plays so we are trying to work on that so she doesn’t use her teeth. We put her in the crate to sleep last night and she wasn’t too excited about it for the first 20 minutes but after that went right to sleep until we woke up at 6am this morning.  Stormi is getting spayed on February 21, 2019 and she will need to have her teeth cleaned a month after her spaying surgery.

February 14, 2019 – Stormi went to the vet today for a complete check up.  She was brought up to date in her vaccination and had her nails trimmed.  Stormi is 17lbs and could lose 1-2lbs.  Stormi is getting spayed on February 21 and she will need to get her teeth cleaned about 1 month after her spaying surgery.

February 13, 2019 – Stormi came in today in the middle of a snow storm.  She is about 4 years old and she is a pug X.  She was surrendered by her owner who didn’t want her anymore.  Stormi is going to the vet tomorrow for a complete check up.  Stay tuned for more on Stormi as we get to know her.

March 4, 2019 – Oh sweet Yarrow , my shadow , follows me everywhere. Such a great walker with the warmer weather . He continues to get along so well with the other animals , and is so easy going , he just ignores the antics of George, the Sphinx cat.
Yarrow is getting his teeth cleaned this coming Friday.

February 25, 2019 – Yarrow, our big boy is such a sweetheart . So easy going and cooperative with his ear meds and eye drops. He gets along so well with the other animals, we haven’t had many walks lately with the bad weather.  He is a beautiful gentle boy , so sweet and wants to please … loves to cuddle and is just so happy!

February 19, 2019 – Yarrow continues to be a delight, he has really settled in . He continues to be attached to his toys and likes to fall asleep with one in his mouth.  His cough is also gone completely, he will sometimes cough when he gets very excited like lots of pugs.  He is still getting meds for his ears, one ear looks great but one is still looking a little red. We will have that checked by the vet.He had a great sleep after his big trip to Ottawa Farmers Market this past Sunday and was excited to get home and see his new friends !  He is a big beautiful pug with a big beautiful personality!

February 15, 2019 – Yarrow is doing very well and barely coughs.  He is always happy and he is good with everyone 2 legged or 4 legged.  His tail is always wagging and he has lots of energy.  Yarrow will get his teeth cleaned as soon as his ear infection is cleared.
February 11, 2019 – Yarrow is the happiest Pug ever … I just have to look at him and that big curly tail  is wagging ! He is pure delight !  His house training is really good, he has the bladder of a camel.  He absolutely loves his toys , sometimes he will fetch but mostly he likes to carry them around in his mouth and make funny little noises … sometimes he will fall asleep with his toy in his mouth
He is a big cuddler , loves the couch ,but sometimes he likes to be in his bed.
He loves his walks and loves going in the car; he gets very excited but does little funny cries and sounds until he finally settles down .
He is a dream to clean his ears and give him his ear drops , he just sits still and let’s me do it.  He fits in well with the resident dogs and cats.  He is a bit of a loud snorer.
He is crate trained but we’ve not used it since he’s been here, he’s a such a good boy.  Some nights he will sleep on the bed, but he also likes to just go find his bed and sleep in there …
Absolutely no problems with him on a leash, can get in and out of the car himself.
Yarrow is amazing, my shadow already. He has settled in and is just pure happiness. Lucky will be the family who gets to adopt him !
He is getting his joint support and ear meds every day.  He is hardly coughing but does when he gets excited or jumping around …
He has a very good appetite.

February 10, 2019 – Yarrow gets along very well with the resident dogs and he is fully housetrained.  The vet didn’t know if his coughing was caused by kennel cough or a collapsed trachea and, since we have no background history, only time will tell us if kennel cough is the cause of his coughing or not.  The vet was unable to elicit cough by tracheal palpation; Yarrow is coughing a bit when he gets up or when he gets very excited.  Yarrow is a big boy and should lose 4-5lbs to be at a healthy weight.  He has a big bone structure.  He will be getting his teeth clean in a few weeks and will also has a little cyst removed from the top of his head.

February 6, 2019 – Yarrow had his vet appointment yesterday.  He is a healthy 32lbs boy who will need to have his teeth cleaned.  He has an ear infection in both ears and that is being treated with meds for the next 10 days.  Yarrow is a sweet boy who is curious and loves going for walks.

February 2, 2019 – Yarrow was brought to a shelter in Toronto after his owner passed away.  Yarrow is a big boy at 32lbs.  He definitely needs to lose weight.  “He is perfect” is how the staff at the shelter describe him.  Yarrow is neutered and he will be visiting the vet this Tuesday for a complete check up.  Yarrow might have kennel cough so he won’t be coming to the Winter Paw Thaw tomorrow.  Stay tuned for more info on Yarrow as we get to know him.
